I recently purchased an HTC Touch Cruise from phonesource-USA without doing my homework. (What can I say, I was overwhelmed by the coolness of the phone). Before this phone, I was using an Excalibur and a Titan from HTC. I think I already know the answer to this question, but wanted to ask the home experts out there.
I absolutely love this phone, but am I screwed on 3G when T-Mobile releases it this year?
P.S. I'm located in the U.S.

T-Mobile USA Will use 1700mHz band for 3G and according to some sources it will use 2100mHz to. Witch T-Mobile say it will not have full experience of there 3G. But it will work.
And i think it will be possible to use Radio from Sony X1 witch have same Chip sets and everything except screen.
AT&T 3G
I think I may be in the same boat. I did read up on the phone before I bought it to work on At&t's 3G network. Even thought the phone operates on 1900mghz I have not been able to get it working. It always is on the Edge network.

are you saying you have not been able to get the phone to work on att's 3G network? i've read on howard forums where other owners are seeing the "H" and "3G", suggesting that others have been able to connect...
3G
That's exactly what I am saying. I have had it configured to the correct frequency for AT&T's 3G since I turned it on. The very first time I put it on 1900 MGHZ I did see a H and then a G, but I'm sure the G was for GSM.

When you say "configured to the correct frequency for att's 3G", did you manually set the Band to 1900 mHz? or do you have it set to Automatic? for all my HTC devices that support 3G, i set the Band to Automatic and it will pick up and use the att 3G/H band automatically. i only see the "H" when i'm tethered to my laptop or downloading a 1 meg + file.
att 3g
I did it manually. I figured it wouldn't work on auto. I will try the auto detect and see what happens.
3g is up
Well it says G right now, but not 3G. I know I have crappy reception here so maybe it will change. Thanks though.
yep... having good HSDPA/UMTS coverage is a must to access the network. if it says "G", you're using GPRS, "E", you're using Edge, "3G", you're using UMTS, "H" you're using HSDPA. you might check att's website to see if you have high-speed coverage in your location. every HTC 3G capable device (e.g., supports Triband HSDPA) that i've purchased has always connected to att's network with the "Auto" Band setting...

Ah this sucks. Why can't America just use the same frequencies as the rest of the world. I don't want to have to purchase another expensive phone right after purchasing this one. Looks like a Sony X1 will eventually be in my future
Thanks for the reply.
3G???
I had it on auto all day, but no little 3G icon. I know there is coverage, becuase my TYTN and even my blackjack picked it up right away. I guess I'll just keep looking..........
AT&T 3G
I am usually indicating 3G or H. I have it set to auto and it semms to be working fine for me.

I too have found you need to leave the phone set to Auto. A soft reset after you change it from manual selection to auto gets me the 3G back immediately on boot up.
ATT 3G
I have ATT 3G & H in some areas when I travel but my home area does not have 3G coverage only EDGE at the moment. It depends on ATT's coverage whether you will get 3G or H. The phone is fully capable to work with ATT.
got my Orbit 2 today, and HSDPA & UMTS are working fine (in dallas)...
using a polaris with at&t in buffalo, ny. 3g and HSPDA work fine in most areas. sometimes if i go deep within a building it will swtich to edge which is normal.
3G!

Because in Chile, while not using the 4G.
Currently this only works on 3G
The long and short of it: The G2X has a bug in the stock ROM that does NOT display 3G at all. So when it's showing 4G, its actually running either 3G or 4G. There is no icon for 3G at all.
I could be wrong and 3G could be tied to the 2G icon, but I've seen 3G speeds far more often when the phone is displaying 4G than I have when its displaying 2G. No one has been able to verify this for me. Obviously if chile doesn't have a 4G Market there is no way to "force" 4G speeds.

On the stock G2x I do not believe you will ever see the 3G symbol. Tmobile 4G signal is just a very fast 3G. They call it 4G. You will only see 2G or 4G on the taskbar.

In network mode, there is only GSM and WCDMA.
The only that works is GMS.
when I use the data plan I get the icon 2G.
I think that actually is 2G, as the navigation goes very slow.
I never appeared on 4G, you can change the ROM?
thanks
The phone displays 3g as 4g. Why I don't know, maybe T-Mobile wanted everyone to think they were getting 4g all over the place when actually they weren't, but it DOES support 3g. Your phone will SAY it's running 4g, but it probably won't be. Run a speed test if you want to see for yourself.

So, let me see if I am reading this correctly. When in Chile, you can only connect to GSM which makes sense. So you never see the 4G symbol? You only see the 2G symbol?
If this is the case, have you done a speedtest to see what kind of data speeds you are really getting?

Only works on 2G Chile.
The network operator ENTEL works with 1900, some pages say that the cell blocks this signal with other operators.
When I enter somewhere to watch tv online, I get that I need a 3G or WIFI connection
im going from a verizon 4G LTE sim phone to this which is only 3g and im not getting any network when i put the sim in.. but it sees all my contacts etc... ive searched and didnt see any questions/answers

I have same phone, can't make it connect to 3g. It just connect me to EDGE.
What country are you?
I'm in Mexico, and the 3 serv. providers uses 3g on the 850/1900 bands. I've tried the obious , correct sim slot, correct apn config., entered to engineering mode and tried forcing it use the 850 band, but havent had luck with it, no 3g connection.
I've been desperate because i depend alot of data service.
Can you share your experience.
Thanks.
Hi, just got a device in Europe and found out it is 4G.
Read something about not being able to use it in the US.
What does that mean, that the phone won't work at all, or that it has to do with mobile internet connection or a wifi connection?
If this is a problem, is it possible to fix this with a new rom?

The phone should work in the US but not on 4G LTE due to the different operator frequencies.
In the UK we use 800, 1800, 2600, 3500 and 3700MHz where as in the US they use 700, 850, 1700, 1900 & 2500MHz.
So it should work on the 3G/HSPDA bands but not LTE unless it uses some kind of global LTE chip.
Hello,
I have Samsung GS3 verizon SCH-I535 With CM13 installed , works perfectly , APN well configured and i connect with 3g, but i still have a problem.
Yesterday i upgraded to 4G , when i plugged the new 4g sim card and rebooted, i had no Network at all, i couldnt even make calls, so i go to settings ==> Network ====> and selected GSM/WCDMA and the network and 3g worked , if i chose LTE or other options it will switch the network off and wont work.
Please help me guys , what should i do ??!

The 4G signal that the networks worldwide use are not the same, GSM 4G is not the same as CDMA 4G, also, some 4G devices in the past were not true 4G, they used Wimax which is not actual 4G. My point is, the 4G your network uses is probably a different signal type or its bands do not match the bands the device supports. Research the exact signal type and frequency bands that Verizon supports, then research what signal type and bands that your network supports.
Many times I've seen 4G CDMA devices used on other networks and 4G could never be made to work, they were stuck with 3G because the device did not support the 4G type their network uses.
Most devices on other networks but still have 4G can count themselves lucky.
Thanks for your reply,
I flashed this rom (CM13) ; http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...m-cyanogenmod-13-0-nightlies-verizon-t3269675
my provider is "Djezzy" , and i think its 4g LTE.

You "think", no, don't assume anything, even if your provider uses 4G LTE, if the bands/frequencies of your network are not supported by the device's hardware then it isn't going to work. As I said the first time, you need to do the research to see what bands and frequencies Verizon uses and then do the research to see what bands/frequencies your service provider uses. I mean find the actual values of Verizon's bands/frequencies and the actual values of your networks bands/frequencies, you need to compare them to see if the use the same bands/frequencies, not just whether its 4G or LTE or not. Do you understand what I'm saying?
Also, their may be radio/modem incompatibilities, the radio modem is part of the stock firmware that remains on the device, ROMs are just the system partition and not the whole operating system, software that is under the ROM is still the software the device came with or had before you flashed a custom ROM.
