Kicking off development - Essential Phone Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey all,
I'm eager to see development for this device to start - but as I don't own the device myself it's hard to get started.
If someone were to build the device tree for this device it would allow folks who are still waiting on the phone to get started.
This is a great place to start for anyone who's technically inclined: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/11352709/android-device-configuration-for-aosp

[Q] Interested in becoming a developer

Hello forum,
I currently own a Samsung Galaxy Player, and could use some guidance from the members here to point out some go too's threads in the community. Since it's a rather large community, I would like to learn how to make a complete recovery of my device that would be flash-able, and maybe some quick points on other ways to start off with a device. It'll be grateful for those who can show me the way, before I start posting questions that shouldn't be under my device since I own a couple of other androids. Thank you for your time!

Ck out Titanium Backup.
Thanks for the idea, however I'm interested in making an flashable (odin) file for my device. Any clue how to go about it?

[Q] Where to start a thread about a new phone?

Hi,
I'm wondering where I could start a thread about a new phone that is not in the current list of phones?
E.g. I've got a ZTE STAR1 and it's going to be a nice baby to talk about, similar to the interesting XIAOMI.
thanks for your advices
cheers
Hello @lavive I have two possible answers for what you're trying to explain. You can start a discussion thread for your device in the General Android section. Please search before you start the topic as there may already be an existing thread. If you wish to have a specific sub-forum for your device you can suggest it here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660354

[Completed] Asus ME181C

I am looking for someone who wants to develop on the ME181C. I have been playing around with it and have gotten it to talk to my pc and to get into the recovery menu. I do a little programing but nothing like you developers here on XDA. I just want to share this information because I don't see anyone working on the ME181C yet. Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post, but I didn't know what to put it under. Please contact me and I will pass along the info. Also if this should be posted some where else let me know.
Hi there,
A good place to share and to get others to help with development would be the Android Software Development and Android Software and Hacking General [Developers Only] sections
Though you will need to get up to 10 posts to post there so contributing in some Q&A sections would be a good start!

[Completed] [Q] Learning to build AOSP from source for new devices

Hi guys,
So I've always loved flashing ROMs on my phones and tinkering, but I've never really understood how to do it all. I figured I should learn and try to give back to the community, considering the amount of time I spend on here.
I've followed the steps on source.android.com for initializing my build environment. I'm done syncing with the repo, but I can't find a thorough guide on what to do next. I can't use the breakfast command because my phone is not an official device. In the "Building for devices" section, it states that I need to obtain proprietary drivers for my device, but I'm not sure any manufacturers will give away their proprietary drivers
I'm looking to do all this for my Moto X 2013. So my question is, how does CyanogenMod have (some) proprietary drivers for my phone, and would it be possible for me to pull from CM's repo for those drivers? Is there a better forum for me to ask these questions?
If anyone has an idea of where I should look next to do some more research, I'd really appreciate the help!
Hi,
This section has many guides and tutorials. Please do your research and try your hand at it. After you read read read, if you still need help, ask in the thread of the guide you use, or create your own thread and ask for help...

[Completed] [Q] getting my windows 8.1 laptop to correctly recognise my kindle fire2

Second attempt at getting some help, - perhaps first attempt was waaay too greedy for a noobie.
Lets start simple.
I have a bricked kf2
I now have a factory cable that, when plugged in , does indeed power up the kf2 in fast boot.
The pc acknowledges that a device has been connected, but no disk drive or portable device etc appears in "my computer" [xp speak!]
In device manager, the kf2 reports as "Otter2-prod-04"
Can someone please help me connect it to the pc correctly, in order for some of the utilities to be able to interact with it - ie. more chance of unbricking it
thanks in advance
Andy
Sir,
Please review the purpose of this forum:
The mission of XDA Assist is to provide basic help to those who have tried searching but can't find what they are looking for and need assistance. This is not a "helpdesk" providing technical assistance but more to point you in the correct direction with your problem. Perhaps you can't find posts on how to root your phone, install custom recovery or maybe you have questions about how to navigate and use features on the site.
Our XDA Assist team will give you links to threads/forums that are relevant to your problem. You may be pointed towards guides and instructions that can be quite complex, so you will still need to read carefully and be cautious before attempting to make software changes to your device. It is essential you are in the correct forum for your device model; what works for one can ruin another.
