My hardbrick incident
I had a mediatek phone few years back.I found in some website or somewhere else the word "root" and benefits of rooting an android device. So I searched the internet and found several apps to root android phone.I found a chinese app called vroot.I ran the app and successfully rooted my phone. So the es file explorer app now does not bother me to activate root explorer feature.I navigated many system directories where I could not go in past without root.I deleted the framework-res.apk file from the /system/framework folder. Then all the apps on my phone just started to close.I got a feeling that I had done something wrong by deleting that file and if I rebooted now my phone would never boot again. But I still rebooted my phone with the hope that everything would be all right after the reboot. But the feeling became true and my phone never booted.I visited many local phone repairing stores but could not get my phone repaired.I thought this is not fair, all the hardwares within my phone were all right,it was just a software problem but still I had to throw my phone away because the local phone shops could not repair it.I disagreed that and kept my phone safe.I managed to get my parents to buy me another phone.Few months after I rooted that phone as well and this time a knew the importance of the system files. So I did not ever tried to delete any of the system files again. But as I had seen in the system tuner app that changing the lines in the build.prop file can make your phone faster.I changed probably the dalvik.vm.heapsize parameter to a much lower value from within the system tuner app.And I rebooted the phone and this time I faced the pain again, loosing the phone, listening to the bad comments of my sister, mother and father.Again no local phone repairing shop can repair it although all the hardwares in my phone were perfectly ok.I again disagreed to the choice of throwing the phone away.Few months after I got a Laptop. Then I tried to search about repairing the last phone.I found that these problems are very common in the internet although very rare to all the local phone repairing shops.I downloaded the entire rom of my device and flashed the rom by following each provided instruction.I learned about the sp tools program in the process.I proved to my family that I did not break my phone,it was just a software problem.I leaned about making back ups of the whole rom using sp tools and mtk droid tools programs.I learned about custom recovery and how to make a cwm recovery using the sp tools and mtk droid tools.I made one cwm recovery with mtk droid tools and sp tools and flashed it using the sp tools.I learned about custom roms.I found a custom rom and the guide to port it for my device.I learned about dsixda's Android Kitchen from the guide.I successfully ported the rom for my device but could not flash it using the cwm recovery that I made with sp tools and mtk droid tools. The solution was to get a latest working twrp or philz recovery using magic twrp program or magic philz program. So I got a latest working twrp using magic twrp program.I flashed the rom I previously made successfully.Meanwhile I found some where about the word "hardbrick" in which situation my phone would respond to nothing no physical button not even charger, and I would not be able to flash my back up rom from the computer anymore.I did not believe in that.I thought how was it possible whenever my phone would not boot I would always be able to flash the backed up rom using sp tools. So I found android to be non breakable at the software level.I also successfully downloaded and flashed the stock rom of my first soft bricked phone.
Few months after I had a phone named LYF F1 but this time it was a qualcomm phone. Before even getting the phone in my hands I planed to get a backup of the stock rom using the sp flash tools and mtk droid tools. Now when I got the phone in my hands I did as I planed. But mtk droid tools could not identify the phone.I wondered what was happening. After searching the internet I found qualcomm phones can not be backed up using sp tools and mtk droid tools these tools are for mediatek devices. So I searched the internet for few days in hope that I would found a way to backup my qualcomm phone.I found only one video tutorial to backup any non-rooted qualcomm phone using qpst tools otherwise there were many back up solutions if the phone is rooted.I tried to root my phone using almost each and every provided apps in the internet but failed, and also the back up method for the non-rooted qualcomm phones also failed.I searched the internet to found the stock but I failed. Then I downloaded some custom recoveries made for other devices with same cpu.By following some post at some where I tried to port it for my device, but again porting the recovery needed me to have my stock recovery.I thought if I could only flash the downloaded recovery and the recovery worked then I would get root access and I would be able to back up my stock rom.But the only way to flash the downloaded recovery to my qualcomm phone was to use the fastboot commands. But computer can recognise my device with the command "fastboot devices" but any other fastboot command just failed with an error remote device unknown command.Few weeks after I found the stock of my phone in the internet with someone's help.So I downloaded the whole rom, ported the recovery successfully and flashed it using the provided qcmdl program by replacing the stock recovery from the stock rom's folder with the twrp recovery. Then I got root in my this phone after a long wait through the twrp recovery. Now I tried to port a rom for my this phone. But I could not found a rom provided in the internet in the sense that it could be ported to any qualcomm device with same cpu.All the roms were made for a particular device and they were saying not to flash it on any other device. It was not the case with the mediatek phones that I had because I always found some roms which were provided in the internet in the sense that it could be ported to any mediatek device with same cpu and even the full guides to port the roms for my phone were also provided with each rom.I since then already ported many roms for my mediatek phones by following the guides provided with the roms.I took a rom made for the same device whose twrp recovery helped me to port my phone's twrp recovery. The phone was ZTE nubia z11 mini. The rom was mokee 7.1.2,the zip file contained boot.img, system folder,cmnlib.mbn,emmc_appsboot.mbn,file_contexts.bin,hyp.mbn,keymaster.mbn,modem.img,rpm.mbn,sbl1.mbn,splash.img,tz.mbn.Now when I flashed that rom I was thinking I had only seen system folder and boot.img before when I ported roms for my mediatek devices. So what were those other files? I thought they would probably make the rom work better. There were no informational file neither inside that zip file nor at their website which could suggest me what those other files were and what could happen to my device if I flash them.I flashed the rom successfully through twrp and rebooted into system. After few moments I saw my phone yet had not started to boot.I pressed the power button for few seconds and there was no response,I got a thought that my phone has hardbricked. So I tried again and again to power it on but my phone was really hardbricked. The fact that I refused to accept when I was working with roms for my mediatek devices, just came in reality. My phone would not respond to anything not for any physical button, not for charger,I could not restore the stock rom from my computer.I searched the internet day and night and tried almost each provided method and programs to restore the stock rom from my computer or from sd card but each of the methods and programs failed.Fortunately I found a fact in many places from other users in the internet that in a hardbrick situation if my phone is under warranty then service centre would repair the phone with minimum cost or without any cost at all.I send the phone to the LYF care and was thinking what did I do wrong when flashing the rom, which of the files in the zip file caused this.I searched the internet to know what are the exact work of those partition files but could not found what I was looking for,I tried my best to know the exact file with in the zip for which my phone was hardbricked, but I failed to know that.LYF service centre was saying that they had found some trace of liquid in the phone which had caused my phone to be dead and I have to pay a huge amount almost the actual price of my phone to get it repaired under warranty,I knew this was not true.So I contacted higher LYF consumer services to know them that my phone was never near any liquid so that my phone could have been harmed by it,they took the phone from the service centre and checked again, they now said some different reason and increased the amount to be paid to get my phone repaired under warranty. So I have to pay a huge amount to get my phone repaired,I do not know which of the files or the folders within the zip file caused that hardbrick,I have not been able to sleep well for last one month, and I have completely lost all faith on myself to flash anything in my phone, listening bad comments from my parents.Yeah that's my hardbrick incident.
It's a too long story bro, maybe you can find a IT-guy and ask for help
Do you expect any1 to read it all? You could just make it short, so some1 helps

Hi @Tarasantan! Dude You only mentioned trying to use the power button! do you still have the phone? If you do;
Try holding All three buttons for 50 secs.
Then, connect it to the charger for at least an hour (let it gather some juice).
Now try holding the Power and Volume Down button! for like another 50 secs!
In a few moments it should run! If it didnt PM me we will Discuss A few things! and I really appreciate If I have a new friend!
What we are doing here is draining the battery and discharging the phone! thus a HARD reset! like we do it with PC!
Next letting it take Up Juice to give it a Defibrillator kinda treatment!
Not resetting it by the Combo! (Power & Volume Down)
Reply Man! I can understand how worried you are I recently bought a new phone so I could use Beta Stuff on my phone! you are the reason for my phones root!
You are older member Here (atleast older than me!) I respect you Bruv! Imma Try helping you as much as I could. You give soo much and people seem TOO damn busy here! -.- I hope More active people become my BFFS!!! (^_^):highfive: (^_^)

Hello, and hope this is the right place to post this.
So, without any knowledge about all this smatphone/android stuff, I finally got one by a really good price. An ot-983.
Some friends conviced me to root it. I found a way to do it and noticing all the bloatware from it's original carrier (this phone was carrier unlocked when bought) I decided to clean up a bit.
I ended up cleaning a lot of stuff that I simply didn't use from a \custapp\ folder in there.
Thing is, a day latter I got a notification of a firmware update and I just said yes.
The said update failed, complaining it seems about the lack of some of the deleted bloatware.
Now, here's when the lack of thinking shows.
Wondering about it, I decided to look around options and found the factory reset.
Being a new and mostly empty phone, I did it (wiped clean the sd too),
And there, it went all into hell!
After reboot, it can't get my wireless anymore (have to use a static ip workaround for it...)
Root Checker says it's not properly rooted (using the same rooting technique as the first time doesn't fix it)
superuser still seems to be working, altho it crashes now and then with some errors about permissions.
also, can't get BusyBox working because it says there's no su binary and I can't download an update for it.
In short, I guess I need to get this phone to it's basics, if possible unbranded.
I don't really know what I need for that, but here I am, reaching at you that might help
I guess I need a stock rom and a way to flash it.
I'd appreciate a lot any help on getting whatever it is needed.
*cheers

I simply downloaded the drivers from alcatel website
and then used the root package from here: <can't post outside links. it's a thread on error-soft dot net
Followed the instructions on the .txt included and it worked.
After that I think I had to install Superuser app (from live store)
be careful. My problems came from deleting some stock apps included and then doing a firmware update.
so, don't delete stuff around if you're thinking in doing the upgrade.

Where did you get the upgrade from ?
My story is like this: rooted, uninstalled some bloat from system and after a factory reset I'm stuck in the initial setup wizard (after completing almost all stages from setup it crashes at the end, after connecting at the google account - tryed to ignore that step but either way it crashes). Fastboot works but adb don't.
I do have another identical phone Alcatel One Touch OT-983 but with no root, with no modifications. Is there a way to backup the original/stock image and flash it over the malfunctioning one and restore it??
I tried with the proprietary upgrade tool from Alcatel but no succes as it close saying I don't need an upgrade because it's the last version of software installed in my phone. I thought even to broke intentionally the rom but I'm afraid that the upgrade utility from Alcatel will let me down, as I read that another users didn't managed to complete successfully the upgrading process. Is there a way to trick the system that has a previous version of Android?
Thank you for taking your time to read this and hope someone has an idea to solve our problem.
Have a nice day guys, you can contact me at puiocku at gmail dot com.
Have someone this stock rom (for Alcatel One Touch 983 (Valencia)) ???
Here is a Alcatel OT-983 rom, not sure which country it is from: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g2ljtrpqru3uihm/rom 983.zip?m
Here is my o2 uk backup rom: http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/C4VEKHEI/OT-983_backup_uk.rar_links
this .zip file contains the boot.img, system.img and recovery.img
Someone needs to create a clockwork mod recovery for our phones now.
here is the sourcecode for this phone: http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/85KDRTYP/OT_983_20130103.7z_links

I recently "semi bricked", if my Alcatel OT983, if that's possible. It would not boot fully and got stuck on the "jrdsetupwizard has stopped" screen.
Here's what I did. The issue with getting the Alcatel One Touch Upgrade software to work appears to be getting the correct USB Driver installed. There are a number of potential USB drivers. This phone needs the driver in the Alcatel One Touch Upgrade. The stock Windows one or the one used for rooting the phone using instructions from the errorsoft website from the oneofgod will not work with this upgrade procedure.
1. Download the Alcatel One Touch Upgrade software and install on your machine. Open up the folder where the software is installed.
Look inside the folder that is called USB Driver and look inside the appropriate folder for your type of Windows machine 64bit or 32bit (x86) and install that driver for USB - that is the correct one for the upgrade
2. Run the upgrade software whilst connected to the internet. Connect your phone when it is off. You should just get the Android icon i.e. not charging or anything else. The icon should just stay there all the time the process takes place.
3. The upgrade will download. It's when the process gets to about 70% that the phone the starts upgrading. It will take a few moments but when it starts progressing into the late 70s and 80s you should be well on the way. At least that's how it went for me and I got my phone back!
Hope this helps.

Tanks for share the ROM.. I need it to recover my friends phone..
I just got this phone, not looking to root it yet as theres no option for a custom rom yet.
didnt want to start a new thread as theres not really any section for this phone yet.
Everything was fine until i installed the firmware update. Now applications cannot access the mic. Some complain about it being in use by another app. others like video editor or sound recorder will record, but the video recorder there is no file, and sound recorder crashes when you hit stop.
Alcatels website is useless, wasnt working yesterday, today it is but cant find any contact details incase its a bug in there firmware. Everything works fine except for that. Which is annoying because i use RTA software and now it doesnt as it cant access the mic.
any ideas?
Hi guys,
I've rooted my phone with abd and udpate.zip a long time ago, and it was fine till some days ago it stopped from receiving calls and the home button does nothing when pressed, although in recovey mode it works.
I've done a hard reset, reflashed the recovery.img, system.img and boot.img I've found in this post with fasboot, but did not solve the problem.
I've tried a firmware update with Alcatel's own software but it just keeps saying my firmware is updated already. I've also tried to edit the proinfo file, but I don't know what to change in the file. You can see more about that method here: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/9772370-post8.html
My guess is that the files that are corrupted and preventing me from receiving calls are somewhere else than those img's I've flashed. Has anybody got a FULL backup of his rom (e.g. Rom Manager) so I can recover the phone completely?
Thanks!

Hi All/experts,
I bought this phone 2 months back after lot of rooting efforts finally was able to root it. However I think unknowingly I deleted some apps from /system/app while trying to cleanup unwanted applications. Now my phone does not show any cell connection(its a dual sim phone) does not even show the SIM signal bars on the top right corner. when I look at the phone information about baseband it reports "unknown". I tried using various phone.apk but non of them worked and I would like to know how I can solve this issue and make my phone alive. My phone boots properly , all other installed apps work, I get a wifi connection and can use Google Play.
Can someone help me by providing the rom dump for this phone or a APK dump for this phone? The phone shows that its running 4.0.4 however its a 2.3.6 base I believe.
Ok to even flash a custom rom as long as its sure to work
Again the model is Telsda T9555 and it has a mediatek MTK6515 processor with 256MB RAM and 256MB ROM.
Thanks

Hello,I found your post about rooting Telsda phone. I would like to ask You, how did You done it? I have Telsda T8520 bought in PRC last week, I'm trying to install Google Play subsystem, but to be honest I don't know how... Can You help me? Simply installing google play apk doesn't help. Phone seems to be rooted, but some things are still in chinese, not english, so I'm not quite sure. Explaining your rooting and google installing procedure might help me. Thanks in advance.

to root the phone its simple, extract the boot image using mtkdroidtools and then decompile the image file. edit I think the build.prop and set ro.secure = 0 and ro.debugging =1 (I am no expert but this is what I did). repack the boot image and flash it back to the phone. Then use unlockroot and thats it you get your phone rooted.
However since your phone is rooted as you say, installing google play needs installing the below apk
1. GoogleServicesFramework-signed
2. OneTimeInitializer-signed
3. SetupWizard-signed
4. com.android.vending-3.1.3-signed
I have attached the zip here in case you want to give it a try. This worked for me, I dont guarantee it will work for you !!!
if I helped you ... can you provide me a full rom dump of your phone , I will try to flash it and since its the same manufacturer I hope it will work Right now I got my phone back from completly bricked by keeping the boot image and then flashing a system image from different phone. So my works for calls ,sms, gprs ...etc but fails on wifi and bluetooth.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK , I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE GOES BAD

thanks, but what driver for windows have you used? my mtkdroidstools still shows the device isnt revealed. I've tried lot of different drivers (even generic), without success so far.
your problem could be driver installation.... get usbdview and run it as admin. delete all mediatek related entries, reconnect the phone for flashing and then let the system do the installation of the drivers again. This is a very common issue with mediatek preloader Vcom drivers atleast as per my experience but I dont know if others too have faced this. when I have a problem I use the above porcess to make it work again.

I dont understand what you are trying to do . If you are trying to flash the phone then you need to run sp flash tools, remove the phone battery.. start the download or the readback in sp flash tool .. put the battery back into the phone and connect the phone to your computer. This way your Vcom drivers should get installed.
Again before doing all this its advisable to do delete the existing drivers on your PC using USBDview
There is a tutorial on how to use SP flash tools check it on the internet. As a suggestion to avoid any risk of messing your phone just do a readback instead of a download.
Goodluck !!! your phone , your risk if something above fails (-:

This way your Vcom drivers should get installed.
Again before doing all this its advisable to do delete the existing drivers on your PC using USBDview
There is a tutorial on how to use SP flash tools check it on the internet. As a suggestion to avoid any risk of messing your phone just do a readback instead of a download.
Goodluck !!! your phone , your risk if something above fails (-:

Hello! So I am new to all this havent done anything similar in over 7 years. Things are much more complicated now. Unfortunately during my trials I hard bricked my s4 I545PPVRUAOH7. I bought this phone this year so it never had jellybean. Going thru hardbrick tutorials I understand I need a scatter.txt. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to make this file from a number of stock i545 roms. MTK android tools simply wont read the md5 file and I dont understand at all. Needless to say now that I am aware of this I will create the scatter.txt whenever possible in the future. I have the correct VCOM drivers installed. I have been stuck for days and would really appreciate a helpful push in the right direction to get MTK android tools 2.5.3 to work... Or if someone could just send me a scatter.txt file from this phones original firmware I would owe you forever. Also am I able to just flash a different but compatible scatter with SP Flashtools? There is a huge data base of scatters but remain cautious in testing anything without confirmation, as there is nothing for my specific phone.
Thank you for your time.

So I got this cheap cell phone on Ebay for $50 (Sky Devices Elite Octa 5.5 with MT6753). It has great specs for that price. However, I'm now paying for it as I can't root the device.
I've tried one click tools but none of them worked. So now I'm asking the XDA community hoping that I can get some pointers.
I've found various tutorials online but they've all come to a dead end. If you find one that you think I should try, please let me know and I'll check it out.
I tried contacting the OEM but they were d-bags and refused to provide stock ROM or scatter file. Which makes me want to root it even more!
The furthest I got was I can dump about 2 GB from the device's memory to a raw file on my PC using SPF (Smart Phone Flash) Tool. One of the tutorials I found is here:
https://cmflare4guides.wordpress.com/2016/08/25/how-to-create-spft-rom-dump/
The Instructions section works but the Continuation section does not. In MTK Droid Root, the button "To process file ROM_ from FlashTool" is disabled and I can't click it.
Any ideas?
I can unlock the boot loader.
I think what I need to do is:
- "extract" the ROM that I downloaded via SPF Tools into various partitions (no idea how though)
- mount the partitions as a loop back device in Linux
- modify some file that will disable permissions on the device (allowing me to install SuperSU)
- "package" the modifications back to some ROM image
- upload the image to the device
However, I currently can't figure out what to do with the ROM_FULL that I downloaded from the device using SPF Tools.
Need Sky devices Elite 5.5 0cta (MT6753) Flash file(ROM)
Ey mate!,,hope you're doing good.. lucky I finally found your post over here. I kinda bricked that same phone when I been tryna flash a custom rom on it.
I managed to root it, had to use Miracle box( Cracked) ....side-loaded TWRP recovery via fast boot (felt like a champ:victory
but then things got wacky the moment I flashed a custom rom and now it can't even boot into any mode ,..almost scanned the whole web for its firmware but dang!, couldn't find it anywhere. If u still have that Sky Elite 5.5 Octa thing.. or the ROM,please do help a brother man, I am so in need of it...
Hello everyone.......... So lets begin from the starting. I have recently bought an iphone x clone device. I thought it will have good enough hardware compared to its price but unfortunately it only has attractive outlook finishing but inside its really bad. I cant even watch youtube videos because of hang & crash. So I decided to root it and install ram expanding software to create vram which really helped solving the crashes....... But still the device feels laggy so I was thinking about installing a soft custom rom which will consume less rom & ram. I tried to backup my stock recovery and install a twrp custom recovery via different apps like flashify, mobile uncle tool, twrp manager etc. But all of them failed to create a backup or even flash a recovery. I had to try different custom recovery image as my device is clone and not included inside twrp supported device list. I even downloaded my stock recovery from internet (not 100% sure if its the right one but tried my luck as I couldn't collect a backup copy of my stock recovery from adb) and tried to port with other custom recoveries and install it...... But still all I boot into is my chinese stock recovery which is useless for me. After trying 2 days I have done everything I could and couldn't get further than rooting and installing some useful apps to make my device little bit stable. But this isn't enough, I need help now to find correct custom recovery and soft custom rom for my device.
Here are some pics about my device details which will help you get some idea about which device im using. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ieMNTSkgTAIWNn1xNSqg2iCzUPXheEdI?usp=sharing

Lol, it's because you have an unsupported cloned device that has no actual stock source or stock firmware to work with, it has a firmware that has been hacked together. Ask yourself why it has hacked software, it is because there is no real software for this device other than what they hacked together when they made it. I doubt you'll find anything that can be installed "as-is", you'll have to do the same thing the device maker did, you'll have to put your own software together which will require either building a whole new ROM for your device or it will require porting an existing ROM to work on your device.
It is very difficult to identify cloned hardware and very difficult to find compatible software.
And this is a "large active tech community" but most members here don't have/own/use/buy or have experience with cloned devices because we know they are junk, regardless of the specs, we have better sense than to waste our time and money on them.
