Force Touch (correct term?) not working. - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hi all,
Has anyone else noticed that their force touch on icons is not working? I cannot get the menu that asks if I want to delete or uninstall etc anymore. When I long press it does allow me to move the icons and if I force touch on a blank part of the screen it does go to display settings.
Thanks, Dhatw.

Same issue
It happened with my phone last night as well, it is very annoying and I cannot find the solution, please, any suggestions would be great. I guess we are not the only ones, suppose something has updated.

Same thing
It is after touchwiz home updae, perhaps for Snapdragon versions only.

Just found the solution, change all animations in developer options (all if them) to NOT TO BE OFF.

Temporary solution
So, I found a temporary solution to this issue with a little research. In my case, I had all animations turned off in developer mode, if you turn them back on, the menu appears. I have no idea what the issue is, probably touchwiz's latest update. Changing animation to 0.5x in developer options solved the issue for me.

[Q] questions about ICS on Sensation

Hi guys,
Looking for help on a few questions about my recently updated Sensation:
First off, changing the shortcuts on lock screen. I want to replace/change 1 or 2 of the standard shortcuts, I know I have done this before, but I can't seem to find how to do it in ICS?
Second, I'm currently using a third party screen widget for changing the sound profile on the phone (silent, vibrate, normal). Is there something new or a better way to change the profile in ICS?
Third, and this is more complaint and a warning than anything else. I just tried the Setting/Storage/Make More Space tool on my SD card. When you click it, on top you can see "Temporary files from HTC apps". I'm not sure how you read it guys, but my understanding was those are files that could be deleted without removing any other files, right? Since my "Temporary Files from HTC apps" was totaling over 3GB, I pressed it and guess what... it deleted all my music from the SD card!!!!
Thanks for reading and your help would be greatly appreciated,
rio
Hi guys,
Obvious no one had any help for me....
But I have managed to sort out the shortcuts on the lock screen! So if anyone is interested, here is how to do it:
ICS has the same 4 slots for shortcuts on the lock screen and on the home screen (2 each side of the All Apps Launcher). If you change your home screen shortcuts they will also appear on your lock screen.
Second, you can easily change your home screen shortcuts by drag&drop. You can also drop multiple apps on 1 slot, which creates a folder of shortcuts. They will still appear the same way on your lock screen!
I hope someone finds this useful, it was new to me.
rio
I wish I'd found this post before I pressed that f&%@ing button!
It's deleted 5GB+ of my music!!!!!!!!!!!
---------- Post added at 11:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:09 AM ----------
Holy crud, I've just seen the scale of the issue!
I have no way to get some of my music back and I PAY FOR ALL OF MY MUSIC!!!!!!! My fault for not backing up but WTH HAVE YOU DONE, HTC?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
RE your sound profile, Sense normally has a HTC widget that'll cycle between the three of them (under widgets->HTC Settings).
however I prefer to use the volume control on the side. If you go down step by step it gets quieter, then it goes totally silent, and then it goes to vibrate.
hope this helps.

Is there an Xposed module that prevents access to apps?

I want to prevent certain apps from being launched on my phone unless a pattern-lock is entered.
I've tried various solutions from the Play Store, but they're all clumsy, ugly and/or don't work properly (the most common issue is the 'protected app' is shown on the screen for 300ms or so, before the 'lock/protecting app' kicks in and draws the pattern-entry screen on top of it).
I'm sure there must be a simple Xposed solution for this?

Yes, it has the same problem that most of them have, ie. there is a delay between the 'protected app' launching, and the time when App Lock kicks in - meaning the supposedly protected app is visible for a fraction of a second. That's not good enough.
Tasker has a keylock function like what you've described. Just gave it a try and seems to work pretty well. The app you are trying to launch does actually show up for a split second before the lock screen shows up on top (you can select whether it's in an overlay window or full screen). You then need to enter the code to go back to the app. Couldn't find any obvious way to bypass it. It doesn't have a maximum attempt option, though so you probably want a reasonably long PIN. If you disable the cancel button (that will send you back to home screen) then the whole phone will be locked until you enter the code (or reboot).
If you have Tasker or plan to try it, the task is called "Lock" under "Display". You'll have to assign it to an "App" profile so it's automatically triggered when you launch the app.

This is what I'm trying to avoid. Every 'app lock' app I've tried has this problem.

Sorry, I misunderstood your original post. I thought the lockscreen app was showing up not the app you're trying to protect. So tasker won't be any better.
---------- Post added at 08:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:17 AM ----------
One other thing you could try is enabling multiple users and set up restrictions on one account to disable those applications all together. Never tried this feature so don't know how easy that would be.

That's an interesting solution, but I don't think it's workable for me.
I'm essentially a lazy person and hence I have no pattern/pin security on my phone for day to day use - it's just too much hassle. What I'm trying to achieve is:
1: an interim security measure for certain apps/media/docs if I lose the phone, until I can send a remote "kill" signal
2: protection from friends and my nephew (who I often hand the phone to) from launching certain apps.
Logging in and out of different profiles is way too much work for me whereas a pattern lock on certain apps (which I might use 10 times a day perhaps) is less of a chore.

[SOLVED] Camera app crashes in portrait mode

If I have my phone unlocked in portrait mode and try to open the camera app, it immediately force closes. Turn the phone to landscape and it opens right up. If I open the camera in landscape mode, then turn the phone to portrait mode, if force closes.
Persistent across reboots.
Forced stop and cleared data, still the same issue.
Any one else have this?
EDIT:
Here is the solution in case anyone comes across this thread:
Having the same damn issue! Can't exactly take pics if the camera force closes... I have tried just about everything and it still force closes JUST in portrait mode which leads me to believe it may have something to do with the motion gestures?
EDIT: I am pretty sure that you have the LastPass app installed?? This is what is causing the problem... Follow this for a fix:
Thanks to @mentallo in this post, it's now fixed for me.
The problem was the new lastpass app integration. To fix it: -
Log into the Lastpass app
Open Preferences
Edit App Associations
Select Camera
Change it to 'Do not show fill window'

Perfect! Fixed for me as well. Last pass causing it explains why there aren't more people with the same issue.
Pretty sure HTC needs to do something about their camera app. Similar password apps Password Box and Dashlane also crash the camera app constantly when launching in portrait mode, usually from the icon. Works fine if landscape mode, launching from volume button shortcut.
For Password Box and Dashlane, the issue occurs because of their one-tap login method. It uses Accessibility Services under Android Settings. If you turn it off in Accessibility Services for the app (no more 1-tap login), issue goes away. I have contacted Password Box about the issue, they responded. HTC just told me to log the issue on their site, with no response.
To me this is bad for HTC as I was about to exchange my phone because I shouldn't have to deal with this type of issue. Stumbled across what was causing it by complete accident. Less tech savvy users may just return the phone and get something else, which isn't good for HTC at all.

Lollipop on the S5

I see the current thread about the recent update. But that thread is more about how to upgrade without losing root. Don't get me wrong, I'm interested of that is possible.
But I thought I'd start a thread about people's impressions of Lollipop on the S5. Pros and cons. Thanks for your input.
lol its a thread about the L update.. there currently isnt a way to upgrade without losing root so that is being worked on right now..
As far as the actual update, its a fresh change and everything they said itd be. Plain tw os lol

With several features of Lollipop not being included for the S5 release it feels to me like just a color change with a little different lock screen.

Can those with the update possibly comment with which specific features are present and which are missing? I have heard rumors, seen "change logs", and seen some random posts here or there, but think it would be useful to the community to get a confirmed list of what is included and not included. If people can post in this thread of what they find or do not find, I can compile them into a simple list in this post. Thanks in advance!
I love the look of the new lock screen and want eclipse ROM to upgrade to 5.0 and have that. However, I saw that the 'trick' for the notification bar where you pull down once for notifications and twice for toggles like on nexus was not included which I'm upset about

Is this left out because you can do the 2 finger pulldown to get quick toggles?
Ok guy's am I screwed since I took the Ota without preserving root?
I got the update yesterday, and so far so good. Battery life seems a tiny bit worse, but that may be because I've been putzing with the phone more. Will continue to monitor the battery life.
The Fingerprint lock screen is much better, and the fingerprint sensor seems to be more accurate, if that is possible.
With the new fingerprint screen, when I unlock, I get a short vibration (haptic feedback?- I am usually in vibrate mode). The phone did not do this before. Also, I get a vibration when I put it on the wireless charger. Again, this did not happen before. I can't figure out how to stop it, as I would prefer not to have these vibrations occur.
Other than some visual differences, these are the only issues I've come up with to date. If I could figure out how to eliminate the vibration when I unlock the phone or put it on the charger that would be great.
Anyone experiencing the GPS turning on every time you unlock the phone? for a second or so.
Kitkat is better and more stable as the daily driver.
Lollipop has more novelties but not better on performance.
Depends on what you prefer.

This is a different quick settings menu that includes a flashlight toggle and data usage toggle among others. We did not get this feature.

Adding trusted devices in BT and NFC
Guest mode
Screen pinning
Quick settings
High contrast text mode
We did however get a knockoff game of Flappy Bird as an Easter egg.

Trusted devices works fine, and was included - just has to be turned on in settings, at it is off by default. I'm using it right now.

+1 for the Trusted Devices, I am also using it right now with my Gear Live.
Turn it on at Settings -> Security -> Trust Agents -> Smart Lock; then back up one level and a new Smart Lock option will be available which allows you to add Trusted Devices and Trusted Places. It may not show up if a secure lock screen is not enabled.
So I got Lollipop now....and there is definitely one thing that is absolutely horrible! This is also confirmed to be wide-spread (not just S5).
Now, When you put your phone to silent/mute, you will NOT GET LED light NOTIFICATIONS. Period.
Only way to get LED light notifications is while phone is in Sound/Vibrate mode. This is severely sad and many people are expressing their opinions about this across all Lollipop devices. Using some 3rd Party App (LightFlow) as a workaround is not a real solution either.

No, you can flash a stock tar, boot to recovery, full wipe, reroot following the old ncg instructions, and then follow the guide in general on flashing the rooted rom for OA8 from nk2.

Glad you found that. That's not exactly where the android site said to find it.
You guys think that any devs/ROM creators will be able to add features like the new google notification panels and stuff and get rid of the TW stuff? Nitro has already created an older AOSP ROM that is brilliant so I'm curious if devs will try to emulate a ROM based off of the newest 5.0 Google

Edge Lighting issue

Hey guys. I need ur help plz. My edge lighting is working but it doesn't go around the screen anymore if that makes sense. Like when u play music the light goes around the screen infinitely. Any ideas? Cheers
Hey, I just ran into this issue too with my phone. After factory resetting my phone, my edge lighting works but it doesn't run around the edge of the screen. All it does is turn on. I tried clearing cache and deleting data on the edge panel app settings but still nothing.
Tried uninstalling the Edge Screen update version 3.1.00.1 but still the same thing..
Did you find a fix or anyone? TIA

NVM. Figured it out. End up, you have to set "animator duration scale" in Developer Options to a scale instead of turning it off. Might have turned it off by accident..
