Hey folks,
Got a bit of a problem. Seem to have bricked my S7. Which is a bit of a problem.
I was following this guide;
https://theunlockr.com/2016/09/03/root-samsung-galaxy-s7-s7-edge/
Which borked once I flashed it via Odin.
So I went about google how to take this back. Tried to follow this;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/unbricked-t-mobile-galaxy-s7-t3600380
Failed half way through reflash and now comes up with;
"An error has occured while updating the device softwareuse the emergecy recovery function in the smart switch PC Software"
So i found this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yXQUFrEWg4
So I download the Smart switch software and get to device initialisation and then it asks for my Serial Number. Which, I can't get because it's in the software of the phone. There's no external Serial number. I think if I could get an SN for a SM-G930T phone I might still have a shot at saving this.
Can anyone help me with this? I'd rally, really appreciate it.
https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-G930t/
Just found this which could be useful if I could get into the download bit, which I can't seem to be able to anymore.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s7/how-to/firmware-sm-g930t-odin-restore-t3367007
This too looks useful, again, only if I can get back to the download screen.
Could anyone send me an SN for an SM-G930T so I could get the emergency software recovery to work? That would be great.
Xposting here https://www.reddit.com/r/androidroot/comments/6x1zcf/bricked_s7_smg930t/
Serial number should be printed on the back of the phone near the bottom / on the box
Not sure someone else's serial would work

It's not on the back of this phone. I also got this second hand from Ebay and so didn't have a box. So, I just found one on the internet and that has worked.
I've managed to get it back working... but I don't want to talk too soon. it's taking me through the usual startup stuff but I'm not out of the woods yet... This has been a hair raising adventure so far and I'm absolutely no further forward than I started.
Not ideal finding a random SN tht matches your model number but we will see if that has any lasting repurcussions. In the meantime, it appears to have got me out of a hole.

Here is the link to switch from G930T to G930U and here is the link to the Root (The rooting process is the same across all carriers but the install of the G930U isn't)

Hi guys,
My Fiance` recently purchased an SM-G920F off ebay, brand new. Came from HK.
The rear casing says sm-g920f as we purchased, however going into download mode it identifies at sm-g920v. Using smartswitch to do a device initialization results in the serial not being identified once entered.
It's showing no OTA updates, running 5.1.1.
It's doing alot of weird stuff, camera led randomly coming on and can't be turned off, apps won't load or need to be constantly reinstalled. I've tried to reflash with Odin however even TWRP comes back with an error saying nand write failed. I've tried on a win7 & 10 pc with no luck.
Any ideas?
Maybe its a non genuine product . because generally that is how they act ,check your device hardware with some software (CPU-Z or something like that) and compare it to your original product specs. hope I am wrong anyway.

When you say non-genuine, you mean completely fake / not manufactured by samsung?
If that's the case it is a damn good fake. Odin identifies it albeit not being able to flash it and the same with smartswitch (backups etc work). It also looks 100% like an S6.
I'll take a look once she's home, she's got it with her. Thanks for the quick reply!
Other suggestion , try using Kies to update.

Tried that, it shows something like device not supported. Going to 'device initialization' it asks for the model and serial number (tried both sm-g920f and sm-g920v) and it fails the recognise the combination and won't proceed.
If the hardware matches after you test it , it must be one of two things , the device have been altered (or repaired) or it is a manufature issue ...either way , I suggest you return it since it is supposed to be brand new, its not worth spending time trying to fix what was supposed to normally work.

Thankyou, sounds like we'll be returning it.
Appreciate all the information guys.
Hello folks, I guess I need help with this one :
Not a big Samsung fan but found a good deal on a S7 (craigslist) and got the phone without much homework.
After getting it home, see a few things that I don't like :
back plate says is 'Galaxy S7' and looks legit to me
power up screen also says 'Galaxy S7'
and displays t-mobile logo (supposed to be a tmobile phone)
but settings > about phone >model says 'SM-G920T'
Which turns out is NOT a model for S7 from what I can google.
Also - looks very thin on apps, as in hardly any at all, but has something called 'kingroot' which looks rather strange to me. Samsung including this on their phones ?
So, what the hell is this thing ? Is there a way to tell if it's been played with software or hardware wise ?
Any help from the connoisseurs of all things Samsung Galaxy greatly appreciated. And I know I', in the right forum for that, so thanks in advance.
BTW - not putting a SIM card or connecting this to any private wifi till I have some idea what it is I'm looking at.
Thanks
Sounds like a s6 from the model number, is there a space to put in an sdcard? If not then its an s6.
Yes, there's a tray holding the nano-sim+microSD card. Need to eject with a pin of some sort, in this case was a paperclip.
I know - search results point to S6, but that doesn't look right either.
Why I'm wondering what this thing is
Hope the experts will chime in.
Please post pictures of all sides. Also check image and video resolution and if the camera on the back has working image stabilization (open camera and move device while watching camera, it should stabilize itself)
Sounds like a fake to me
Try putting the phone in Download or Recovery Mode and see what it says.
Vol-Down + Home + Power on for download mode, Vol-up + Home + Power on for recovery.
It's probably a fake phone. Checking what the baseband version is in the Settings menu may help too.

Some more info following your advice (thanks all !!!)
baseband : G930FVPU1APV5
there's no IMEI on the back that I can see/identify
recovery mode stops at a dead android screen saying 'no command' (that stopped my heart too for a sec ) , then the home button goes to recovery menu that says
system recovery <3e>
LMY47I test-keys
and a lot more that mostly does nothing - no ROM anywhere I looked
Apply update from sdcard/cache - no go
reboot to boot loader did not work either, unclear why and no time now to play with this
The good news : it is a working phone, the seller was using it and took out his sim and sd card after using it.
Bad news : still no clue what I got, some kind of frankenphone.
I will try to upload pics - only I don't know how yet
Whatever this is, since can't trust it in current state, what ROM should I put on before trying to do something with it . And if I install another ROM, would this be safe to use - assuming it does what I want it to do ?
Thank you all for the replies, will keep digging and still hope some expert will weigh in.
Your help greatly appreciated.
I'll never understand how can someone buy used thing without your own personal inspection of device from your hands. Sorry but you're dumb for doing this

Okay, so I'm dumb getting a phone I know nothing about from a stranger. Your point is??
So got into bootloader and got jiggy with it and it says it's a 930f.
And assume it will be good enough for what I need.
I'll go full geek on it and find a good rom.
Anything that has the fm radio app?

hey dude, I did not called you dumb but pretty sure what you did was not smart. why don't you send us some pictures of the phone? especially from the sides and back and we can quickly see if it's a ripoff or not.
No, I'm dumb and manly enough to admit it.
Did not do my homework so is my fault and paying for it.
In better news looks like I may have something I can work
with.
As long as I can get a rom I like. What's on it now is definitely debilitated, hardly anything there but don't trust it.
That and don't have a nano sim yet.
Waiting for rom recommendation, preferably with fm radio included.
Thanks again all!
I don't think you understand. Alot of people here believe you have a counterfeit phone. If you do, then you have something that may have 1/4 the screen resolution, 1/4 the power and 1/5 the camera quality of the S7. Get the IMEI (settings > about phone) and check on swappa to confirm if you have a S7. Also, If you have a black image, does the screen off or does it have a slight glow (OLED screen should be off when a black image is on screen). If you do have a counterfeit, no rom on this forum will work with your phone. The other thing to check would be to try to boot to download mode, as only authentic samsungs have it. It's important as most rooting/custom roms involve you first flashing something in download mode via Odin.
Here are instructions for entering download mode:
Switch off your smartphone completely.
Press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power buttons simultaneously.
Release these buttons when the Warning screen pops up.
I also fell for a counterfeit a few months ago. I spent ~$600USD on a white S7 from ebay. Fortunately, Ebay's seller protections were able to allow me to return the phone for a full refund.
"I also fell for a counterfeit a few months ago. I spent ~$600USD on a white S7 from ebay. Fortunately, Ebay's seller protections were able to allow me to return the phone for a full refund. "
I also fell for some fake headphones from eBay. Broke after 4 mos, sent them to Shure for warranty, came back "counterfeit". Found out Paypal has a 180 day refund policy. Notified them and had a full refund from the seller in about 5 min. Just an FYI.
Looks like either:
1. A cheap Chinese clone
2. A rooted Galaxy S6 (which is what the kingroot app is AFAIK).
Get your SN and restore it through Samsung Switch in Windows. This way you will find your phone back to a stock rom and not custom rom.
OK gang, is a clone s7. Big disappointment. But got to pay the price when I'm stupid.
Any one here needs one of these, can cut you a good deal
No clue what to do with it, ideas ?
(please don't say paperweight or doorstop, already thought of those)

I have originally a Tmobile Galaxy S6 that I had jailbroken and now then they blocked my IMEI. I paid some guy to fix that issue and that was months ago, I don't think that is even related I just want anyone to know the history of the phone because I don't know maybe it is apart of my issue. So yesterday Im on my phone just playing a game and the S6 freezes up and its happened once or twice where i would push the home and power and eventually it would start working. So it freezes and then shuts off and goes to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Powered by android screen and will not get off that screen at all!! So I do some searching around, long story short I get to the point where I downloaded Odin 3.10.6 and I download the firmware for my phone which I found by putting it in download mode or odin mode it said at the top. It says product name SM-G920T. So I download the firmware that goes with that put it in Odin it goes to success and all looks good and the video I was watching showing how to do this showed the phone go back to the samsung screen and then start working pretty much well mine just went right back to the samsung screen and that's all it does. I downloaded the newest odin, with the newest samsung usb drive installed with trying different firmwares that I downloaded that were supposed to be for SM-G920T. So I'm at the point of smashing this P.O.S and just buying a new one. Is anyone able to help or tell me what I'm doing wrong or something, anything.
Can you post a screenshot of your ODIN settings - you might be flashing it to a wrong partition.

You've said you used ODIN to flash the SW to your phone. ODIN has a lot of checkboxes, buttons, etc. I personally have bricked a phone just by clicking the wrong checkbox, so I just thought your problem could be related. So to be specific - could you post a screenshot of the ODIN you used and describe what kind of options you selected, what buttons you pressed, etc.
I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S6 unlocked off Amazon. Immediately confronted with the "unauthorized actions have been detected" error, which is apparently pretty common in this model. I follow the suggestions to factory reset the phone; make sure it's 100% updated, etc. None of these work. I try to root it through a variety of apps to disable the Security Log, which is apparently the only way to stop this error from appearing, and discover this phone appears to be unrootable. PingPong, One Root, all of these applications provide the same error message that no data is available for this device yet.
So, I can't root the phone. I can't get rid of the error message. I wasted money already on a phone case, screen protector, etc. If I was really looking forward to having an S6.
I'm not especially tech-savvy, could one of you possibly suggest the best course of action here? Or is it hopeless and best to try to return it?
TIA.

Which variant s6 is this? There's multiple variants, some can be Rooted but if it's an at&t (model g920a) it can't be Rooted. So your 1st to finding out what options you have is to determine which variant s6 you have.

It seems this device in particular doesn't have the required information available for rooting.

It depends on how important rooting is to you tbh, best thing for you to do is have a look on the s6 at&t forum on XDA and see the state of rooting, last time I looked there hadn't been much progress unfortunately.

Hello everyone, I'm a long time lurker and I just made this account to ask about a strange Oneplus 8 5g with T-Mobile native apps I came across from eBay.
Looking at the About Device shows a secret build number and a mystery manufacturer of "Faraday".
There is also a transparent text string along the bottom that moves with the phone orientation.
Seller indicated that the phone is locked and and any attempt to unlock or root will hard brick the device.
A factory reset does not clear the text string or reveal the build number.
CPU-X info attached.
T-Mobile 5G does work with sim card inserted. IMEI check came back clear. I will be going to a T-Mobile store today to see if they have any insight on it.
Any one have an idea of this phone's possible history?
I bet seller is full of BS. I don't know the T-Mobile variant in particular. But look into the MSM recovery tool and try flashing a stock build. I would not trust that phone with any personal information. Seems sketchy. What is interesting is that it shows no hardware specs.
I believe the build/manufacturer/etc is just from the build.prop file. It's not reading HW for that info iirc.

Just created an account because I bought the same phone after seeing another post on here that the person was successful in removing the numbers.
According to a comment on the other post, that’s the PCBA #, which can be pulled up with dialer code *#888#. I confirmed it on mine. Here’s the link if you’re curious:
Oneplus 8 IN2013 / IN2017 version has a floating number bar on the bottom.
Hi everyone, first post in a long time here. Just bought an unlocked Tmobile Oneplus 8 off Ebay. When it arrived the back of the phone has the model# IN2013 on the phone but there's also a sticker that says model IN2017. Everything looks fine...

Just wanted to ask how you were able to get your phone into EDL mode as I’m unable to do it in order to run the MSM tool.
I’ve tried via holding the volume buttons and via adb and got nothing. The phone just turns off completely and won’t turn back on unless I hold volume up and power.
Any tips for someone in the same boat as you were in?
Btw, it’s quite odd that the numbers actually completely disappear only while editing a screenshot lol once you’re done editing the screenshot, they come right back.

In case anyone sees this and has the same issue, I commented on both threads so am updating both threads as well. Here is the update:
OK...I'm an idiot, never read the end of the guide, figuring everything was in order and I wouldn't need that information until later. My phone was showing up as QHUSB_BULK instead of QDLOADER 9008 in Device Manager and for some reason the drivers I downloaded were being seen as incompatible with the phone.
After running Windows update, the drivers were successfully updated and on the very next attempt, I was able to get the phone into EDL mode and it was picked up by the MSM tool. Just figured I'd leave an update in case anyone is having the same issue and wondering how to move forward.
