Now that root has been established by jcase, how do you get rid of all the Verizon garbage on this thing, and which stuff is safe to uninstall without injuring the phone?
Every time I attempt to remove an app, it reappears after rebooting. Ive read like a billion threads and nothing seems to work.

As I understand it, root for the Maxx does not give RW access to /system/apps yet, so you can't remove any of the apps until that's figured out. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2442585 - the note under limitations.

You can disable most of the bloatware on the Manage Apps screen in Settings, no root required. It's also safer than uninstalling because future updates may check for bloatware and abort the update if not present (lots of folks fell victim to this on the Bionic). I have about 20 apps disabled this way.

Would you mind telling us potential buyers what specific bloatware cannot be disabled? Can any other apps be uninstalled outright?
Removing ANY of the Verizon bloat prevented OTA upgrades on the Bionic. That even included games and apps like NFL.

I also have about 25 apps disabled. Literally everything verizon has pre-installed is done for. It works on everything I've tried, and I'm not trying anything else as they're all critical things left over.

Some of the VZW leftovers -- like Backup Assistant -- can't be disabled through settings.
Not that the Ultra family is rooted (see link below), you can just install TiBu (Titanium Backup) and "freeze" any app. (Freezing is the same as disabling the app in settings, but TiBu can freeze apps that you can't disable.)
I'm hesitant to actually delete anything because some OTA upgrades won't install if all the bloatware isn't there.
ROOT!

I guess a better question would be, what can I freeze using titanium backup that won't break the phone and cause unstoppable force closes? I've already frozen as much as possible, but now with root I can also disable things like that wireless display service that I never use. What else can I freeze?
Is Google the reason that I'm not permitted to uninstal Google Drive from the Moto G?
(as in Google owns/controls Motoroloa)
On my other phones(Note 2, Note 3, HTC One), I can completely uninstall Google Drive app easily.
Just wondering....
Thanks!
I think the real question here is why you would want to get rid of it in the first place.

He told you. Its a system app. If you are rooted, delete it with something like root explorer or titanium backup. If you are not rooted, uninstall updates and disable it in settings. It causes no harm just being disabled.

Some OEMs Roms will ship with it as a User app, Moto just happens to ship it as a System app probably because it is slightly modified to offer 50GB free storage at first launch.

sorry if I wasn't making my question clear... I'm not asking how to remove it. I was asking who was to blame for making Google Drive not removable on the Moto G. Google, Inc. or Motorola Mobility(a Google company)? Is it safe to guess that it was Motorola?(because Samsung and HTC didn't do that on the Note 2, Note 3, and One that I own)

Yes Motorola are indeed in charge of which apps are system apps on their roms.
I used this tool to debloat the apps that i could not disable. I think caution should be used. Maybe we can list the ones that we've blocked...
I've got 69 apps blocked for now
It took me a while to find the export on the tool (Right click on the "Read Device Packages" to get to it) Thanks Misterxtc
Here is my list. It's all Verizon except wifi hotspot and setup wizzard, knox, amazon, loggers, OTA update and a few other misc bloat files. 52 apps in all. Load it with the debloat tool.

Is it a bad idea to disable all of the Knox stuff? Just wondering if there's a way I can look up what some of these packages are to see if I want to / should disable them..

It won't hurt. It doesn't affect the battery on or off because it's idle and not running in the background until you use it or trip it.

You mentioned in another thread that we need to debloat to block OTA's, could you be more specific please? Which apps in particular should do the trick if de-bloated? I'm not sure I'm ready to just blanket debloat, but I sure as hell don't want to lose FoxFi Wi-Fi tethering capability while we're w/o root.
-Thanks
EDIT: Is hiding SDM.apk and SDMViewer going to block the OTA updates?

Curious, does this actually remove the apps or just disable them? I am anxiously awaiting my Note 5 (supposed to arrive today) and after running custom ROM's on my Note 2 for the past 3 years I haven't had to deal with bloat in a long time.

While this is true root could be possible in one of the fixes. I usually wait a little while to install updates for one to see if they cause more harm than good and two in hopes of root being found in a exploit. I've had more than one phone screwed over from updates so I choose to block it until it's at least confirmed working properly from other users. It saves the hassle of returning the phone to Verizon for a replacement at the very least.

That would be SPDClient.apk but those updates are harmless because a factory reset wipes them out. They are also uninstallable.

Yes, I deleted it the first night I got the phone and everything is OK. If in doubt just copy it to make a backup and then delete it. I would have answered this morning but missed the whole app name.
Thanks to both @Misterxtc and @jonno95. I actually ran a diff on the two text files you provided to compare both lists. Currently have 61 disabled. Could probably do more but I'm chicken as this is my primary device at the moment lol.

I paid for package disable pro because I like being able to debloat on the fly without needing a computer. If I realize I frozen something I shouldn't have I can fix the problem immediately.

I know there will be a ton of discussion and questions about what package disabler app to use and what apps to remove. So, I just wanted to confirm that App Freezer is good to go. After other apps like Package Disabler Pro failed after updates on my Note 8, I went with App Freezer and it never failed me. So, I just went through the effort of removing all accounts and ADB side load. Everything is good to go. I only wish I would have done it on Wednesday when I first got the phone. Overall, it was still a fairly simple process. I'm so happy to be free of Bixby, gaming crap, and that Flipboard crap! I'm sure everyone will have their own bloatware list, as we all use our phones differently.

I've used CCWSE for a long time and right before the Note 20 Ultra came out he let his license lapse or something and had to switch to Package Disabler Pro. Not on the beta program so still on 10 but I bet they'll both be working when 11 comes out of beta.

Samsung revoked his license because he had a "free product" that you could buy a key for. Somewhere deep in the fine print this was against their rules.
He had to rerelease his product with a new license with pay only version and he is offering refunds to folks who previously purchased it.
That being said, CCSWE the new version works fine with Android 11 as of the current beta.

Hi Kdio,
Tell me please, how can I get that app and if is working without root.
I have Note 20 Ultra 5G Snapdragon version and it seems close to impossible to root this model, even though I had rooted all my previous versions and hate this bloatware.
I noticed the phone sending quite frequent notifications with hidden content and I can't do anything to stop it. It's so frustrating to have no full control over your expensive phone.

Much appreciated Kdio,
Will give it a try and hope it works. Really, it's touching to see how a small community as XDA is getting together for fixing the problems and offer freedom of choice to the end users, when this should have been done by the greedy manufacturer in the first place.
Thanks and hat off.
Ladies and gents, as our friend here Kdio has shared his knowledge with us, indeed I can confirm after two days of usage that the Package Disabler Pro version for Samsung (mine is Note 20 SM -N986U), is working fine. It disabled for me many bloatwares, even though some of them are stubborn, like carrier hub, which has to be disabled from the settings as well. However, overall is one of the best option for a non-rooted phone. I paid a small amount (about $5) for the app and received the pro key within minutes. If anyone here has better options, will be glad to know them. .https://packagedisabler.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/package-disabler-ultimate

Started using this a couple days ago after the idiot with CCSWE lost his license again and yes it will work on all services.
The cheap way is using the ADB method from TK at xda @youtube same old commands.
I know, it's tedious, as apps might be reinstalled on updates, that's the issue with this and package disable app.

You're right it is cheaper but you can't enable and disable on the fly when your away from a PC! I have several root apps on my Note 20 Ultra that just need a couple adb commands to make them work. Been using adb since the T-Mobile G1, the only limitation is it can't be done on the fly.
