Was wondering the same, might try this evening but the phone is running great on the XAC firmware so not sure if I wanna mess with it.

XAC firmware runs perfect but this will help people that want to unlock sprint to tmobile att metro cricket ect and get everything working right.. and it works i done many s8+ sprint to tmobile and att
could you show me the link to this patch odin so i can flash eng boot? tried searching the forum but havne't been successful.
Doesn't work. Says permission denied. It would work if we had root permission on the EngBoot. If we get one, carrier switching is easy.

yup would be great if we can get this. All the eng boot i have tried provide read access only and no write access.
I find it funny that the "op" has 3 post and 6 likes. Obviously, this is a troll... Post ALL the files to support your claim or don't post at all.

i would like it. Can you please provide it?
i am about to attempt it i downloaded stock firmware to flash just incase it goes wrong
For all of you out there who happened to get stuck on 955u firmware containing bootloader 2 installed on the 955u1, there is hope!
I have successfully gotten back to 955u1 firmware and running stock OREO. (and have service again for those who are on non-mainstream carriers {Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T})
You will need (links to be added soon) (My Carrier in BL says XAA and these linked are the XAA firmwares):
USB 2.0 PORT
PRINCECOMSEY ODIN 3.12... link
regular ODIN 3.13.1 (what i used) link
G955U1UES2AQL1_G955U1OYM2AQL1 Firmware link
G955U1UEU2CRB9_G955U1OYM2CRB9 Firmware link
Official Samsung Cable that came with phone (preferably)
Windows OS
A Galaxy S8+ 955u1 Phone (only tried with this)
For some reason flashing just the CRB9 firmware would not work, I had to use the AQL1 and then to the CRB9
Instructions:
1. Extract both firmware files/zips (Put in 2 seperate folders so no mixups)
2. Reboot your phone to download mode (Power off then -- Power + Bixby + Volume Down at same time)
3. Open up princecomsey ODIN and then connect your phone to USB 2.0 Port
4. Add in the AQL1 Files - (BL, AP, CP, CSC) -- (I personally first did the AP, CP, and CSC then had it reboot then i restarted and flashed the BL by itself then rebooted) and press start. (I unchecked everything but reboot and f.reset time)
5. Unplug and Wait for it to turn on to the setup screen, then finish the setup (to verify that it runs and the model number is showing the correct #). If you open up settings it will be all jumbled up and weird, but dont worry. If you dont have service yet - dont worry.
6. Now after the phone is all setup (or if you decided to skip), unplug and power off the phone then boot into download mode again.
7. Now open up Regular odin and reconnect the phone
8. Now put in the CRB9 files (BL, AP, CP, CSC) (I put all in this time and i used the Home_CSC this time but you can use csc normal but no guarantee that would work with getting service again as i didnt try it) and press start and wait til it finishes and reboots (same goes here reboot, f stop time. but also check nand erase all -- to fix storage issue)
9. ENJOY!!!

Im going to be uploading the firmware and yes the VoLTE is working.
Also When flashing the CRB9 after the ALQ1 -- A repartition or nand erase all should be done as when i looked at my storage last night it was only 16GB but since im back to u1 firmware it shouldnt be hard to fix for me. i will edit with main post after i do it to my phone to ensure which one works.

Thank you so much! it worked coming from the g955u on verizon.
Was on Verizon 955U CRC5. Did the AQL1 and didn't have any jumbled or weird settings and storage is fine. Regular Odin failed trying to do CRB9. Downloaded the Software Update/OTA CRB9 update and all is good. On build R16NW.G955U1UEU2CRB9 with March 1 Security patch.
Sorry for bugging, newb here. Will this work on my Sprint Galaxy S8 Plus smg955usqs2bql1? And if so if you could spare a few and and help me. I believe I need this right to get root on my device?

What if you flashed the sm-g955u1 version on to a sprint sm-g955u phone? would there be any way to power that back on, asking for a friend I believe thats what he done. Now his phone will not turn on.

Honestly I do not know all I have is a 955u1 and am unable to test for other models as I don’t have any others, and now since bootloader version 3 is out for the 955u1 it is the end of carrier switching unless there is a workaround found in the near future.
This should still work as long as you keep the device on the same bootloader v2 and not Flash any v3 bootloader Firmware as that will definitely brick the device from what I’ve heard of v3 bootloaders
Sorry for any late replies been really busy lately

I’m guessing your friend must have flashed firmware running bootloader v3 on it
(To tell what BL ver. The firmware contains look at the 5th character from the end and it is should be a number like xxx1xxxx or xxx2xxxx etc...) and if it was a 3 then that would be why as that firmware will brick the phone if it’s flashed on a different model (until there is a workaround)

I haven’t seen any root for 955u/1 models for Oreo yet the only root I’ve seen on the s8 running Oreo is the carrier versions and the international models

I greatly appreciate your response, is it any possible way to fix it? right now it won't power up, not even in bootload mode, nor recovery.
I Present The Galaxy A71_5G Guide for Flashing Unlocked Firmware.
Here are some useful reminders:
All download links are at the bottom of this post.
Make sure you follow the "Prerequisites For Anything You decide To Do In This Guide" section.
Don't copy quotation marks, unless I tell you to in this guide.
You will need a Windows computer in order to utilize the software provided.
This is an A71_5G guide, not an A71_5GUW guide.
WARNING: Anything you do in this guide will erase your phone completely. It's recommended that you back up before you do anything and that you remove your google account from your phone (so you don't have to go through FRP).
Disclaimer:
I am NOT responsible for any damage done to your device if you decide to use this guide.
Prerequisites for anything you decide to do in this guide (Required):
Standard Odin
Samsung Drivers
Steps:
1) Uninstall Samsung Switch and/or Samsung Kies, if present on your computer. This helps removes any conflicts with Odin.
2) Extract the Samsung Driver zip and the Odin zip to somewhere safe on your computer.
3) Double click on the extracted "SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones" executable (SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe) and complete the installation wizard.
3) Navigate to your extracted Odin folder and double click on the Odin3 v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD.exe.
All About Bootloaders (Required Reading):
As Wikipedia puts it, “A boot loader is a computer program that loads an operating system or some other system software for the computer after completion of the power-on self-tests.” In other words, a bootloader is what loads you operating system. In most Samsung phones (including the S8 and S8+), there’s an e-fuse that prevents downgrading of the bootloader. This means any firmware or firmware update containing a lower Bootloader version than the one you have, will FAIL to be applied. There is really no way to circumvent this.
I’ll be explaining how to properly identify your current Bootloader version.
How to identify Bootloader version:
Steps:
1) Open “Settings” on your phone.
2) Scroll down to “About Phone”.
3a) If you are on a standard, carrier firmware, under “Baseband version” you should see something similar to this: “G950UXXXXXXXX”.
3b) If you are on an unlocked firmware, under “Baseband version” you should see something similar to this: “G950U1XXXXXXXX”.
4) No matter which firmware you're on, the fourth “X” would be either a “1” or a “2”, which means you will have either Bootloader version 1 or Bootloader version 2, respectively.
Note: As stated in the last section attempting to flash firmware that contains Bootloader v1 onto a phone that already has Bootloader v2, will fail. You can update a phone on Bootloader v1 to a firmware that has Bootloader v2, however.
Flashing Unlocked Firmware:
NOTE: The unlocked firmware does NOT unlock your phone for use on other carriers, it only removes bloatware. Some carrier specific features, such as Wi-Fi Calling and VOLTE will not work with the Unlocked Firmware.
Prerequisites: What's listed in the "Prerequisites for anything you decide to do in this guide" section
Odin3 v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD.exe.zip
Unlocked Firmware from site listed below.
Steps:
1) Extract the Odin3 v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD.exe and the Unlocked Firmware you downloaded from below.
2) Turn off your A71_5G.
3) Once off, hold the Power button while holding the Volume Down button, and the Volume Up button until you feel a vibration then let go of the power button.
4) Press the Volume Up key to enter Download Mode.
5) On your PC, navigate to your extracted Odin3 v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD.exe folder.
6) Double click on the "Odin3 v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD.exe" executable.
7) Connect your phone to your PC with your USB cable.
8) You should see Odin3 v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD output "Added!!" in the "Log" tab and underneath the "ID:COM" section, you should see an empty box turn blue.
9) Now it's time to add your firmware files that were extracted earlier. Individually add an appropriate firmware file for each box on the right. The "BL" box will require a firmware file that starts with "BL", the "AP" box will require a firmware file that starts with "AP", the "CP" box will require a firmware file that starts with "CP", and the "CSC" box will require a firmware file that starts with "CSC" (DO NOT USE THE "HOME_CSC" file for the "CSC" box).
10) Go to the "Options" tab and make sure that only the "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" checkboxes are ticked.
11) Go back to the "Log" tab.
12) Click the "Start" button on bottom right.
13) Sit back and relax for a while. Odin will output what is being flashed in the "Log" and on a box in the top left.
14) The box in the top left will become green and in black letters say "PASS" once the flash was successful.
15) Once the flash finished, disconnect your phone from your computer.
16) Your phone will do an erase at this point, so don't mess with your phone until you reach the setup screen.
17) Continue with the setup on your phone and enjoy!

Worked great for me. I was reluctant because your notes said wifi calling wouldn't work, but it is in fact working for me. No stupid pink t-mobile startup when i turn on/off my phone.
Only thing I noticed that isn't working is chat features in Samsung Messages. It works for Google messages so I switched to that for now, but it's a shame because like the ONEui interface.

Original XAA user here...we're still on the June security patch which apparently does not support Chat in Samsung's message app (though does still work in Google's). Looks like TMobile is one of the carriers that actually cooperates with Samsung Messages which makes me think switching to the unlocked firmware (at least the current version) will break Chat. I actually considered flashing from XAA to TMB just to get this feature but I'm on Verizon and I figure the basebands won't match up.
I read (down a rabbit hole) somewhere that the July security patch enables support for Chat. The June update came out about a week before July, so here's hoping it won't be much longer till there's a July update for XAA

That's great to hear! I look forward to the patch. Yes, from the digging I did, chat features were not included in the XAA version, but they were working when I was using TMB before switching.

Wow, build date was only 2 weeks prior to release. Recently came from a Moto Z4 where we were lucky to have 6 month old security updates.
Unfortunately still can't get the chat feature working; maybe it'll take some time to register the update.

Can you still access "network unlock" (device sim unlock) with the "unlocked firmware"?

If its like previous Samsung phones, you'll need to be on the carrier specific firmware to run the unlock. Once unlocked you can flash back to the unbranded/unlocked firmware.
Anyone tired these firmwares with AT&T
so there is no unlocked version firmware for bootloader V2 right now?
Is anyone else able to access the firmware file on the link? It mentions something about the download under construction.
If I unlock the bootloader, can I Edit the Access Points or APN Settings ?
No unlock needed

You don't need to unlock bootloader, you will not be able to delete the default but you can add another apn. I (on att) added nxtgen apn to get faster cell speeds.

Hey Everyone,
I have unlocked SM-N986U1 with the latest update installed (Updated with latest June update). I wanted to change my CSC to TMB (T-Mobile) so as to enable ESeim support. I tried using Samkey, wasted 1 credit too. It said CSC updated but nothing happened, my carrier still shows XAA.
Can anyone please guide me on how can I change CSC to TMB?
Thanks.

These links'could help. I think you have to flash the TMB Rom which enables and support the eSim on the phone. It would help to have a Tmobile Sim around during this process but I have heard others say it is not needed.

Yes you can. My device is from Xfinity and I have done the switch to any Carrier I choose on bootloader 2. U1 to U and back is doable. The key is to use the modified Odin as specified in the guide.
"
2. Download Patched Odin here
3. Unpack/Unzip what you downloaded in Step 2 (Odin Compatible ROm) and put in a folder. Lets call the folder "Flash"
4. Run Odin, click on BL, Browse to the "Flash" folder, add BL file from there, Do the same for AP (click on AP, Add AP file, this will take some time), Same for CP (click on CP, Add CP file)
5. Do the same for CSC (click on CSC, Add the file with the name starting with Home_CSC). If you use Home_CSC your phone will not get formatted and data will remain Intact
USERDATA Stays empty.
6. Now connect USB cable to your laptop (Only laptop and not the phone)>> Turn off your phone >> Press volume up and volume down keep them pressed and plug in the USB type C into your phone.
7. You should be in download mode now, press volume up. In Odin you will see that phone is added.
8. Press start in Odin. Wait for it to finish and let the phone restart (it will happen On its own).

Thanks for the steps. Couple of Quick Questions:
1) I used frija to download the firmware (I typed CSC: TMB in frija, as its the first time I am using it, is it the right way)
2) I also checked the version in frija with the CSC: XAA, the version is same. How can I make sure that I have downloaded the correct TMB firmware.
Thanks.

So the Model is 986U/DS ? And is eSim enabled ?. That is the state you would want to be in. I understand the last XXX in the service provider software can't be changed. Mine didn't change and stayed CCT which is for xfinity but the as you can see, I have TMB/TMB, TMB/CCT. Esim is enabled and my Mint mobile (Tmobile) number is on it and I have a foreign physical Sim which is roaming on AT&T on the physical slot.
You might be close.

Also picked this nugget up from another thread
"You have to flash full tmb firmware. Not xaa tmb but 986u tmb firmware. The esim is in the user data section you'll flash"
Others have suggested you have to do a factory reset or flash the actual CSC file not the Home CSC which means you will loose DATA. I was doing this on a phone I had not setup yet so didn't mind loosing DATA. I am also assuming you have a TMB sim card in the phone because I understand that is needed so the phone can connect to Tmobile and download the carrier data files that actually changes the CSC after a clean flash.
These are just some of the things I picked up from here when doing my conversion.

Yup I used the TMB version only. The model Number changed to 986U/DS. In About phone, it shows me the IMEI of the Esim, but its greyed out.
The only thing I dont have is the T-Mobile Sim. I think thats whats causing the issue. I will arrange a t-Mobile sim and try it tomorrow.
Thanks for all the help.

Thanks. Let me try those.
Since the OP looks like problem solved, and not wanting to waste new thread, i have similar issues, can you help?
I have an S10e I recently broke (amazon renewed w/U1 FW), so I got another S10e from amazon, renewed which appears to also be U1 FW.
Except the latest, the replacement phone, the one I have now, NOONE can hear me, like all the time!!!!!!! Dead spots everywhere! Its so annoying. Its like i have a bad Mic? Or something...
This didn't happen with my identical phone, the one I had prior to this one, using identical sim.
I'm on Mint mobile, which is a TMO MVNO and currently have XAA/XAG FW running on the new S10e, the new one w/bad Mic or FW problem
It appears I am on U1 Unlocked USA firmware on latest phone ( i may have flashed FW Odin when I got this new one-to be safe- i forgot)
ALSO: BOTH renewed S10e's I've Purchased from Amazon, when lookup the IMEI, it shows as the AT&T Model. Which i understand the U/U1 FW can be swapped, BUT, both phones were advertised as U1 Models for the Hardware, so they sold me U models but they flashed with U1 FW probably to make more money. (this may seem trivial, but Samsung specifically has stated TWICE, that I couldn't Beta Test their last to major android FW's, because my phone shows as At&t on their end, and not the truly unlocked U1 model, for which the beta tests were for. And i was told when i purchased it was fully unlocked U1 ver. The phone itself even says its 970u1 in settings etc.)
Are there ANY hardware (including frequency bands) differences between U and U1 Models???
Is it somehow possible that my CSC, or FW on my phone is affecting my phone so badly that people cant hear me like 88% of all calls? Like should i flash different FW, or reflash or use different CSC??
Is it possible that if I went with a locked TMO FW (or another) that I could possibly, maybe get better reception so folks can hear me better? Or hear me more often or more frequently?
How often do mics go bad or get dirty on these? Can a mic be cleaned?
I have been in the other Note 20 flashing thread but I am stuck. Tried so many ways but can't get the TMB csc to stick, always shows only XAA. I have TMO sim card too. Not sure if they blocked it on the newer releases of the phone
Has anyone tried Samkey to do this? Heard it only takes 1 credit but smallest amount of credits to purchase on ebay is 10 and I dont feel like investing more money into this effort
Code:

I am not responsible for bricked devices, or dead SD cards although it is not possible

How to flash official firmware? (not the root and unlock bootloader part!)
You will need:
A Galaxy S22 Ultra and common sense
Samsung Odin (the flashing tool of the official firmware)
https://dl2018.sammobile.com/Odin3-v3.14.1.zip
You need to extract the zip file and you are going to use the file Odin3_v3.14.1.exe inside the folder.
Samsung Android USB Driver for Windows
Samsung Android USB Driver | Samsung Developers
You need the driver only if you are developing on Windows and want to connect a Samsung Android device to your development environment over USB.
developer.samsung.com
Double-click and install the exe file.
Optional: If you just want to change CSC, /efi/imei/mps_code.dat is where you can edit after rooting the phone
Replace the CSC you would like to be in the file
If you like to download the firmware of your carrier, follow the instructions bellow

Optional: If you want to have the safety net passed (most of the banking apps use it), then you need to install the zip
as a Magisk module in Magisk https://github.com/kdrag0n/safetynet-fix/releases
How? Go to Magisk → Modules → install from storage and select the zip you downloaded.
How to update the system without losing roots and data?
Download the new firmware of the phone and update the Magisk App if it is not up to date. Unzip the firmware you download and transfer the AP file to your phone. Patch your AP file and transfer it back to your PC (in /sdcard/Download)
Power off the phone and reboot to Download mode
Open Odin and put the new magisk_patched file in the AP slot, the BL and CP from your new firmware into their respective slots and importantly *HOME_CSC* into the CSC slot.
Press start and let Odin do its stuff.
When flashed, do not wipe.
Press and hold Vol-down and Power
As soon as the screen appears, let go of all buttons.
Within moments without any further user intervention your phone will reboot into your updated Magisk rooted mode, data intact.

Oh, sorry. I haven't noticed about the SoC. The SoC in Europe is Snapdragon. So I don't think you should change it.
If you just want to change CSC, /efi/imei/mps_code.dat is where you can edit. Both firmware is the same except the CSC, no difference between them
My preordered s22u will come with snapdragon (sm-s9080 BRI ), I will use CHC csc, also like to have call recording.
