Clear back protection with RhinoShield - Google Pixel XL Accessories

I bought the RhinoShield a while ago since I am not a big fan of cases and wanted to be able to see the back of the phone. Unfortunately I still ended up scratching the glass on the back a little and scuffing the aluminum. This bummed me out a little, but instead of going back to a case I decided to put a dBrand wrap on the back and keep the RhinoShield. This has worked out well, but im thinking about a change now.
My first thought was a clear skin on the back with the RhinoShield case, but it seems that there are no good options for this.
I am saw the peel case and I am wondering if it is thin enough to go on with the RhinoShield over it. The clearances are pretty tight, so im doubting it, but I figured I was ask and see if anyone might have tried it. The dBrand skin is supposed to be .23mm thick and the peel is .35mm.

RhinoShield Bumper + SlickWraps Pixel XL Naked Wrap a Go...
Hi
I was able to to use a RhinoShield Bumper case with the SlickWraps Pixel Xl Naked wrap (but I trimmed the naked wrap so the top and the corners were not covered and they work together just fine. I have to add that the RhinoShield bumper is extremely tight on even the naked Pixel XL and I have the redesigned RhinoShield bumper version 2, I can't even imagine what the original version was like to put on and take off.
I have the peel case for the Pixel xl as well and that goes over the Slickwraps Pixel xl naked wrap just fine. I wouldn't even attempt putting the RhinoShield bumper over the Peel case. If you attempt it you might have to cut it off, If you manage to squeeze it on!

[Q] Zagg or Phanom Skinz?

I've just bought a G2 and I'm looking to get some protection for it. Would you guys recommend Zagg or Phantom Skinz? I read about Zagg's screen protectors being too big, is this an issue still?
Thanks
http://www.bestskinsever.com/t-mobile-htc-g2-skin get the full body protector, perfect fit no cutting.
i JUST received my Zagg screen protector (ordered the easy install full body kit), and it fits perrfect! I love it... I'm waiting for my PhantomSkinz Carbon Fiber (black) body protection to come for the rest of the phone.
i received a BSE full body skin a couple days ago. around 8bucks including shipping. fitting is near perfect. its definitely worth a try. Ive used BSE for my nexus1, ipod video, ds lite, and many more.
I got the matte finish PhantomSkinz. I ordered online, so it came with 2 sets of the full body cover, 2 matte screen protectors, and 2 clear screen protectors.
I really like how the matte skin looks and feels on the phone. I used the clear screen protectors, and I think they are a little easier to install than the Zagg ones I have on my iPod.

Did you have trouble getting it to stick to the G2's soft plastic? Mine's peeling around the corners.
The matte finish does look and feel really nice. Props to Phantomskinz for that.

One of the corners actually started to peel a little today. It was one that I messed with a bit after the initial install, so i think that has something to do with it. I was planning on reapplying it anyway (which is why I messed with it before).
Just got and put on my ZAGG shield today. Got the max protection kit, and it fits wonderfully. None of the pieces were cut to the wrong size. I'm very pleased with it.

Did the exact same thing last night. Decided to not put it on the soft touch parts of the phone, cuz i like their feel. But it does make a really good protection on screen and chrome accent parts. To be honest, the screen protection is great and makes cleaning and swype better to use.

What cases do NOT scratch the metal frame?

There have been a lot of threads and post about SPIGEN cases in particular scratching the metal frame of the N4.
What cases do NOT do this?
Thanks in advance
I'm using a Spigen Slim Armor for a week so far and no scratches on the frame. Don't see how it would either as only the soft inner tpu liner makes contact with it.
None, because it's not the case but the polished aluminum lip of the Note 4 that's the problem. Unless you live in a hermetically sealed environment, it'll probably end up scratched.
A few people have reported scratches with the Spigen cases but it'll happen with an otterbox, an UAG, a hardshell or a TPU case. For every person who doesn't have scratches, there will one someone who has scratches from using the same case.
Hey, perfect protection. I had S4 with S-View cover with Qi charging and it was fantastic. None scratches and wireless charging is awesome. I bought Note 4 (SM-N910F) Black with Samsung EP-VN910I Black. Fantastic

I'm also beginning to think that it's not the case but small bits of dirt being trapped between the case and frame that might be the real issue.
On some cases it's the material and on others it's particles. Either way, the aluminum is going to get marked up. Just can't worry about it....
I wish Samsung would have just stuck to plastic instead of trying to make it feel premium. Since I always put a case on my phone, I never see or touch the outside of the naked phone and would not have to worry about the metal frame. The all plastic phone was fine with me.
just put a piece of scotch tape over the metal frame before installing the case

Kapton tape would work better. The adhesive is silicone based, so it will rub off easier.

I think I'm doing the same. Picked up a leather pouch from Amazon (bear motion) for 10 bucks when I need it.
I have my phone in a Ringke case since the moment I took it out of the box. My boyfriend doesn't use a case at all. Yesterday I took my phone out of the case to see how the metal rim is holding up in comparison to his, which is all scratched up. They are both just as damaged! Bottom line: it's not the cases, it will happen regardless. It appears to be so sensitive that the slightest speck of dust creeping in a case, or in a pocket, or bag, ruins it.

That tape is cheap on eBay; plenty $1 links for 5mm x 100 feet , but lead time is about 2 weeks; slow boat from China.
So far, I've only scratched the edges near the USB port (minor). Odd how the cases don't offer more protection around the ports. Should have just left the shipping tape on until this arrived. I've dropped a lot of phone's but haven't cracked a screen and don't want to start doing that so I'll try the generous application of the tape and hope it sticks well with swapping the case a lot because it looks like I'll be using a soft case for home and my Verus Thor for outings.
Thanks for the suggestion.
My Note 4 is 4 days old and I have removed one of my spigen cases a few times. The metal frame has got a few nicks. My iPhone 5s, which I babied, has tons of nicks and scratches. Though not completely visible unless you look for them. With these aluminum/metal phones this is normal.
I feel like the first scratch/nick on your phone is like the first scratch/dent on your new car. The first one is always the one that eats away at you the most and even if it's invisible to everyone else, you can pinpoint the exact location of the damage. I'm kind of surprised that there hasn't been a conclusive way to restore the chamfered edges yet though.
I haven't noticed it being sensitive. Mine has been naked since day 1. Owned it for a month or so and even have been bold and put it in the cup holder when driving. Not a single scratch *knock on wood*. I am looking into vinyls though, that's my current new trend. Started with my old m8, now gonna skin the note.
The Otterbox Defender and Commuter Series cases do not scratch the frame. I was very skeptical with the Defender Series, but was surprised by the results.

I'm not saying that any of our phones are deeply scratched either, but there is no doubt that the coating is not durable, as reported by many users.

Do you think a Defender case and a tempered glass screen protector could go together? I'm considering Otterbox but only if I can use my own screen protector.

[Q] Case vs. Skin vs. naked

Since the S6 is very slippery but very good looking because of the glass, do you use a case because you want to be safe or do you use a skin to retain the phones thin body or you prefer it naked without anything on and around it?
Skin and Case! :good:
Definitely a case with shock absorbing properties. I'm not spending close to a grand on a glass encased phone just so it can have cracks on it.
I think the phone is gorgeous, but use a Verus aluminum bumper in order to get low drop protection and camera protection while keeping the phone mostly original looking. If it weren't for the protruding camera, I've consider carrying the phone bare. (Though I would be concerned with slippage.)
For comparison, I didn't hate the looks the of the S4, but I wasn't thrilled with them either so I put a Spigen Neo Hybrid on, which gave it a look that I liked more, while still looking like a phone and not a case. (Most people I showed my S4 to loved it and didn't realize it was a case.)
I think it's interesting that you bring this up because I asked a similar question in the "show us your case" thread, and people took offense to what I was asking. My basic question was "Do you use big UAG/Otterbox cases merely for protection, or do you prefer the look over the look of the bare phone." I guess I worded it poorly, as I mostly got defensiveness of case choices. Hopefully your thread gets better responses.
(In my photo below, the difference in screen glare and body color is only from a difference in lighting - I used different setups on different days and didn't match the screen lighting. There is no "glare" from the Verus case.)

That would be the risk to not having a potentially unsightly case.
Case + skin. case to protect from falls and skin to protect from scratches
Got both the uag maverick and ash case, prefer the ash on my sapphire black s6, and the maverick on a white s6 both look crazy awesome tho
I use a Dbrand skin and tempered glass screen protector in normal days. Just bought a spigen rugged armour as I'm gonna go on a 3 day camp and I don't wanna risk breaking it.
The dbrand skin should suffice for everyday use. It protects the rear glass from cracking if I ever drop it. And the tempered glass helps with the front glass. The only thing that is unprotected in the event of a drop is my sides.
It's your choice, do you like the feel of the S6 naked? Or would you rather have a cheap piece of TPU protecting it?
Also, if you choose to go naked/skin, the chamfered edges of the aluminium is very soft so it scratches rather easily. You can get a metal bumper to help with drop and impact protection on the sides.
Case. I would consider a skin, but the extra protection is nice. No way I'm carrying this phone naked. Then again, I never carry phones naked anyway.
Dbrand black leather skin on the back, otherwise naked. I hate cases, I'd rather pay for insurance and deductible for replacement than compromise the look and feel of a phone I like.
I just use screen guard both sides it looks and feels good
I had an iron shield on it but removed it about a week ago because the aluminum bumper was killing my GPS signal. Somehow in that week time I got a scratch on my screen. Make sure to put a screen protector on too!
Going naked. I did not pay $650+ to put this in a $5 case. I want to enjoy the phone as it was meant to be. I only have a tampered glass on top and that's good enough for me.

Cases and Screen Protectors

I just ordered my new Moto X 2014, I'm actually getting it for free to replace my old Moto X.
What are some good case and screen protector combinations? I know in the past I've had some trouble with a case AND a screen protector, it's sometimes one or the other. I'd prefer a clear case, but I'll probably end up getting more than 1 anyways.

Just got mine as well here is what I have found so far:
All tempered glass is a waste of money for this model none if it fits right at all due to the rounded edges
I would ASSUME the older plastic style ones MIGHT work better but read they also dont work that well
Most cases that say they are clear are actually frosted and that for me defeats the purpose of customizing the back
So I am going naked screen and hula case and will carry the phone in a belt pouch. Not the perfect solution but for me its acceptable. I would have preferred a strong clear tpu case (most turn yellow), I dont want a hard case, and would have love tempered glass on this but they simply dont adhere correctly.
There you have it the sad but true facts about cases and screen protectors from the research I have done. Hopefully some others in here can give you better news

I don't mind a hard case and not a fan of the glass screen protectors. I like the film ones. My last film protector made it a matte screen and took the glare away. It was fantastic! And it worked with the case. But it's the only smartphone that I've had where screen protector AND case can be used.

I love the look, not sure it would truly give a huge amount of protection but should protect the edges of the glass on the screen which i read is the most vulnerable part of the phone. It does have a little but of movement when you hold the phone (aka wiggles slightly) but it also adds more grip, i have a plastic backed phone.. Those damn beveled edges, nice concept, nightmare in reality. They are why no glass or other screen protector will truly fit right.

When holding or using the phone its fine. I am also extremely OCD and when it moves/wiggles is like when you just tap the side with your finger you can feel it move very slightly, very slight;y but for me noticeable, but not enough to get rid of the case just makes the phone look awesome.

Also if you can order the hula from case mate rather then moto as moto charges an extra $5 shipping. They are also at times very hard to find in stock anywhere depending on the color you want.

I really like the way that looks. My phone is Royal Blue, White Front, and Red Trim. So it's between a white or red hula case, or the gelli case. I'm leaning towards the Hula for more everyday use I think, and buying another case from amazon for when i need more protection. Weird question, but do you think there's enough give with the Hula case where it would fit around the Moto X in a thin TPU case? I like the TPU cases but worry about the protection or lack thereof. Just wondering if it'd be possible to use them and occasional put the Hula Case around them for extra protection. Of course the buttons probably wouldn't work then...

You wont be able to use the two together, to much of a lip on the back with the hula case. Even if you did somehow fit it on the tpu would never touch the back of the phone just the lip around the edge. TPU will likely give more protection then hula but hula will likely give more grip then a tpu case.
New to the X, is it worth while getting a screen protector? Case is on its way, but with Gorilla Glass 3, is it truly worth the extra to cover the screen? Probably will end up with one but wanted some other opinions!

That is completely up to you but I can tell you this based on my research and personal experience:
There is not a tempered glass screen protector on the market for the 2014 that adheres properly. Not one of them works well and thus dont bother with those. The 2014 tapered edges on the glass are the issue. I have HEARD of similar issues with PET style screen protectors but never messed with those as they never felt right to me.
Lastly everything I have read says those tapered edges o the glas DO make it more prone to crack or brake on a drop so you need SOMETHING to protect the glass edges. Full case, hula bumper, something....

A lot of the cracking that people report is from dropping their phones, not taking the Hula on and off. The Hula is designed to absorb the shock of a drop and it breaks so that the phone does not. Better that your $20 bumper break than your $600 phone.
I take my Hula off and on all of the time and it has never cracked. I think people are dropping their phones and the Hula is doing exactly what it is supposed to do - absorbing the shock, which can result in it cracking instead of your phone.

Video Review: Ringke Fusion Case for Google Pixel XL

Direct link: https://youtu.be/HhxKC9InIk4
This is my unboxing and review of the Ringke Fusion for the Pixel XL. Some comparisons between it and the Spigen Slim Armor also.
The video is a tad long but here are some key points.
Pros:
-It offers a slim design that fits right in between the super thin shells and most cases.
-Clear polycarbonate back lets you see the phone, a key feature of the product
-Buttons are very 'clicky'. You can clearly hear them being pressed.
-The case is also just thick enough to make me feel confident that a drop will not cause any major damage.
-Light weight. I notice a significant weight difference between the Ringke and Spigen
Cons:
-Bezel is not pure black
-Bezel is not offered in the soft touch TPU that is had in previous years
-Feels a tad 'rubbery'
I had one of these cases for my N5X and loved it. I'm very close to pulling the trigger on one for my Pixel XL but I'm concerned about the added bulk. I'm currently running the Google branded grey polycarb/silicone case and while the size is nice the silicone is too sticky. Inserting it and removing it from my jeans pockets is a pain in the ass as it gets stuck to the pocket material. This also results in a fair amount of lint stuck to the case.
Are you able to comment on the amount of added bulk, specifically, the sides of the phone? This phone is just about at the limit of what I can use one handed.
Well, the RIngke Fusion is slimmer than the Spigen Slim armor. And is thinner than the ones make for the N4 and N5. Not sure about the N5X. And this one hasn't gotten stuck in my pocket yet, slides in and out easily. Hope that helps a bit.

Picked it up and installed it today. Perfect. Slim, slides right out of my pocket and really shows off the back of my phone. Ringke might be my goto case manufacturer for now on.
Thinking of picking one up. How is the case holding so far? Any discolouration? Is there "oily" parts on the upper half of the rear of the phone?

No oily parts, no discoloration, no scratches or scuffs and I've dropped it several times already. The clear back will pick up some finger prints if you're chowing down on some french fries or something but nothing crazy and they wipe right off. I had this case on my last phone for about a year and they hold up great.
How big is the lip around the front? If I was planning on using a tempered glass screen protector with this case, would the TGSP touch the ground when I lay the phone face down?

The front lip nearly lays flush with my Zagg screen protector on the left and right side of the phone. However, along the top and bottom, the lip sticks out a bit further, maybe 2-3mm. This way, if you put your phone face down on a flat surface, like a table or desk, the glass won't make contact with it.
The military standard is 6.6 foot drop protection.

Ahh thanks!
Has anyone made a custom template for this case yet? I know they come with a cutout

I don't know if you ever got an answer, but here is the one I made, including some images (yes, big Star Wars fan). It's a simple Word document with the template and a couple of pics. Enjoy!
