Hello guys
A friend of mine encrypted his device accidentaly and now he wants it decrypted. I know that the only way to do so is to factory reset the device but it does not help. We tried factory reset through CWM (running Android Revolution HD) but it still demands password when booted up (as on the picture I attached).
Any suggestions what can I do? I really need them.
Have you tried flashing another ROM?
Or you can just reflash ARHD...

Is it just my phone or does it take absolutely ages?

Good! Lol. Cus on my Xperia its a few seconds of a process!

Same for me! Takes a good few minutes :/ On my Nexus 4 it would be a couple seconds!
Must be something to do with Android 4.4 I assume?!
Every time I do it, wipes my imei and I have to flash the factory image...I'm actually looking for a twrp flashable cwm file if that makes any sense

Haven't seen a zipped cwm for the N5 yet. Why not just flash the .img in fastboot?
I just load up fastboot in my computer and
Code:
fastboot format cache
takes 3 secs
and format data separately in recovery mode....

It took several minutes also for me. Really awkward. With my previouse phone, LG p880, it was a matter of few seconds.
Probably the best part of 10 minutes to wipe cache/dalvik for me today!
Its a know issue with the N5. I believe its hardware related. TWRP devs will figure it out.

Yes, it is. And there is a workaround for that issue: Go to the TWRP settings and activate "format rm - rf", so your wipe takes normal time as known.
You can find more about that in the TWRP Nexus5 main thread here .

For me personally, wiping the cache entirely deletes my internal storage so I would avoid it at all costs until there is an update..

It takes my device a little while to wipe via TWRP.

Such thing never happened to me. Formatting cache takes like 3 minutes for me, but it doesn't do any awkward. Unless you reboot while formatting ofc.
I'm avoiding wiping cache in TWRP at the moment...
first time i did that it borked something and i couldnt even switch airplane mode off or open play store when i got wifi on etc...wasnt that nice

Which factory image do you use? I just ran into this issue and it's driving me nuts.
I wish I would have found this thread sooner. I just wiped my internal storage and IMEI doing this. I have a backup of my IMEI, but restoring it with TWRP doesn't seem to do anything.
Will restoring the factory image fix this, or do I need to do that and restore this backup?
SO if you change it to rm-rf it doesn't bork your cell connection? I know it'll wipe faster but still leary on cell connection. Or is it that this only happens if you make the mistake of rebooting instead of waiting???? I'm wanting to jump on SlimKat and coming from an Evo LTE the procedure to clean wipe I'm familiar with is wiping system/data/cache/davlik cache so I've been holding off worried about the cache part. I've been using 2.6.3.2
Why would wiping cache screw up your cell connection? And how does this wipe your entire phone?

Hello, I hope it's the right part of XDA to post my thread as I have serious issues here.
Got my HTC 10 (with Android 6)back from repair today and restored my backup.
But dumb me it seems as if i set a password/patern whatever and i can't remember it.
So after a restart i can't unlock my phone cause it's asking for the code (and won't let unlock only with fingerprint) and i can't remember.
All combination that i would have used are wrong and now i got a working phone back again (after almost 2 month of repairing) and can't unlock it.
Is there any way of bypassing/ignoring the restart password or is it possible to only unlock it again with the fingerprint that is stored?
As i don't know what i should do if i don't get my phone unlocked
I tried to factory reset it andxthat worked but all my apps and data is gone as google seems to only restore some apps and almost no data of the apps.
So i set it up as a new device and only restored /data but immediately after reboot I was asked to put in the forgotten password.
So is there anyway of bypassing the pin/pattern after restart and only unlock the device with the fingerprint that is stored. And if not, is there any way of being able to use my /data after a factory reset again?
Kind regards
So, I changed my password today on my encrypted Note 4 running 6.0.1. Not rooted, everything is stock. After restarting I was able to log in the first time, but now I can't. I've tried so many times that it says I only have 4 more attempts left before the phone is wiped.
What can I do? With enough tries I will get it. I think I made a typo originally.

Boot to stock recovery, then factory reset, it will wipe everything, the password included, but its about your only option without root.

Hopefully i am posting this in the right place if not let me know I've recently installed LOS to my Mi Mix 2s running Pie.Yet when I boot into recovery it now asks for a password to decrypt the data partition when I never set one on there. I tried to input my actual login password for my phone and it was a failure. Tried 'default_password' but also a failure.I've already tried wiping and reflashing LOS and the proper 3.3.0-0 TWRP recovery yet the issue still persists.. I wanted to encrypt my phone but I'm stuck with leaving my phone unlocked if i want to backup my phone or update.Otherwise i'm back to square one with the password failed. This method i found on here https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...n-recovery-t3530008/post79573991#post79573991 also did not work for me. Can anyone help me with this issue?
That happened to me all the time. Usually it is the pin you set for the ROM you're running at the moment. You should be able to use the 'format data' option. This will wipe all partitions, so be prepared to lose your current pictures, etc, and install a new ROM via adb or something.
