Speaker Boost boosts speaker volume on Android 2.3-4.1 and 4.4+. (It doesn't work on 4.2 and 4.3.)
There are other apps that do this, and do more (equalizer support, virtualizer, etc.), but this is meant to be a very light-weight free app (~43K as of 1.01) just to boost the volume and nothing more.
You can pop it up at any time you like just by holding down the search key, which may be handy, or by using the notification bar.
By default it puts up both a volume slider and a boost slider, which is handy for devices without volume buttons, but you can remove the volume slider (menu | settings).
Free version: Google Play (no ads)
Donation version: Google Play (identical to free version, but supports developer)
Source code is available, BSD licensed.
I completely removed the ad in 1.03. You can get it in the Market or at code.google.com/p/speakerboost
I'll give it a shot today.
Thanks
I posted a new version in the Market. In the Settings, you can now set a limit to how high you want to allow the boost to go.
By the way, this really is USE AT YOUR OWN RISK software. Based on reviews, one user blew out earphones and two damaged their phones: this can make the sound really loud, and you need to use it responsibly. My rule of thumb--and I don't know how reliable it is--is that if you hear audio distortion, you should immediately crank it down.
After using Speaker Boost, the app displays in the task switcher in Android. Is it possible to disable displaying the app in the task switcher?

Used it on your own risk
I test it on my Samsung Note Build ..very useful thanks for sharing this app . The best booting volume app ever..keep up the good work bro .
It's looking like this doesn't work with the stock music player on Samsung devices (that music player has its own equalizer settings that can be used to boost audio, and I can't override them--the API says that I've got control over the equalizer, but the volume doesn't change up or down). Does it work with the stock music player on non-Samsung devices? (The music player on Samsung Android 2.3 devices is different from the music player in the Android 2.3 sources.)
I have some users writing reviews that say that the current version doesn't work on devices the previous version worked on. Anybody here see this?
SpeakerBoost is back! While Google eviscerated the API that I was previously using for boosting, in 4.4 they introduced the LoudnessEnhancer effect, and so SpeakerBoost should once again work.
There is now a $0.99 Donate version if you want to support the developer.
I just uploaded new versions with nicer notification icons.
Does this work on lollipop and can this increase the phonecall volume?
By the way, i an using Asus zenfone5 with resurrection remix rom.
Just a quick note that I've just sold the app to Prometheus Interactive. I have good reason to hope they will develop the app in good ways, but I won't be developing it further myself.
Does it have support for Nougat?
EXCELLENT! Still works on my Note 8 and 9!
Ok, let me preface this by saying I don't know what I'm doing, but I got DSP manager working brilliantly. Your mileage may vary and I'm not responsible if this messes up your device - MAKE A BACKUP FIRST!
My current setup:
VZW SGS3 w/ the K1 base.
CM10 Official & CM10 Nightlies (I've also used this on ICS and JB based TouchWiz ROMs)
Stock SGS3 headphones (they sound fantastic w/ this DSP Manager)
V6 Supercharger with the new Maximum Overdrive Multitasking Mod (may actually hurt the DSP effects)
Imoeseyon's Lean Kernel (Experimental) 1.10
I've tried just about all the DSP Managers I could find, Beats Audio, AwesomeBeats, as well as the new AC!D add-on (v4 and v5). They either don't work at all or they severely distort the bass.
What Works:
Using CM10 at least, this will provide excellent audio control in most apps. I've confirmed it working in Google Play Music, Google Play Movies & TV, Plex, PowerAmp, Pandora and YouTube. You will know it will work b/c (using the stock headphones at least) it will literally hurt your ears with clean, powerful bass. I've noticed in TW-based ROMs the DSP Manager doesn't seem to work with Google Play Music or the stock music player, but does work with most everything else.
Issues:
The only issue I've noticed is the DSP Manager will randomly turn off after 15-20 minutes sometimes, but this is known CM10 issue, which is what this DSP Manager came from. Wiggling the headphone plug or actually unplugging and plugging back-in usually fixes it. Also, the Dynamic Range Compression only seems to work in CM10 (maybe other non-TW based ROMs), but it actually kills all the bass, so I don't even use it. I've also noticed that the DSP Manager only works on certain songs using Google Play Music, but I've only noticed this using CM10 and V6 Supercharger, so I suspect those may be the culprit; on CM10 stable with no V6 Supercharger, it worked great.
My settings:
DRC: Off
Bass Boost: Enabled, Moderate
Equalizer: Enabled, Rock
Loudness Compensation: Stronger (this made a big difference on the bass output)
Headset Virtual Room Effect: Disabled
Enjoy!

I don't really care what the ROM looks like although it's definitely a plus if it looks good. I'm mainly looking for a ROM that's designed specifically for music usage & playback. I'm going to download Voodoo Sound on top whatever ROM I flash unless it's included. But before I downloaded Cyanogen or something I was checking with you guys if you had seen any audiophile specific ROMS around lately? This one looked promising but it's not a Verizon model. Is there any ports around? Or would this even be worth it with the Voodo Sound on top with Neutron player?

Thank you guys for all of your help. I appreciate it. & this may be in the wrong place but I'm not sure so if it is then my apologies.
From a code/programming perspective, there's no difference in roms, other than the audio add-ons they offer... but those add-ons are nothing more than compression and equalizer tools. Beatz Audio, DSP Manager, Voodoo... all are just compression tools to 'beef up' sound and they give you equalizing customization, but you can do that kind of equalization with apps like Doubletwist. The digital compression those add-ons and apps use is teh evil if you're an audiophile, because it overcompensates and 'chops the head' off sound.
You're not going to get an audiophile experience on a phone, because of the hardware used; there's always going to be some signal to noise ratio loss from the headphone plug and device board. Bluetooth can reduce the S/N reduction, but most aftermarket roms aren't working well with BT for prolonged use (I've had good luck with the 4.3 roms, but not 4.4). If you want the best performance, get an AOSP-based rom, then add in all the apps you want to eqing.
I'm a music producer, so I try to avoid all that compression crap whenever possible... eqing is about all I'll do to a properly-mastered release. Case-in-point, I play older jazz FLACs all the time on Doubletwist; I use the EQ feature and it sounds about as good as you can get on an S3.

That's very helpful. So what's your favorite player then? I don't necessarily like carrying around a phone & a player for mobile listening but if I have to then so be it. I've been using Poweramp EQ'd pushing my vsonic gr07's for portable use. It was pretty good with the FLACS I have but I feel like it could be better. How much of a difference does the Voodoo mod make? Will it even work with Verizon galaxy s3 since it wasn't shipped with the Wolfson DAC? Either way I'm using a FiiO E17 with it which has Wolfson. I'm just trying to get this all figured out.
Truth be told, I haven't found that one player I really love. If I could mix Winamp with Doubletwist, I'd have my perfect player... DT doesn't have very good playlist support and Winamp is clunky, but I love the feel of DT.
Voodoo is really similar to CM's DSP Manager and is a more customizable version of BeatsAudio; I honestly don't know if Voodoo works with the S3, but DSP manager does. The both offer compression and EQ control, so if you have low-quality MP3s, they'll sound better than stock sound will make them. If you have a music app like Poweramp or Doubletwist, you don't need to use the EQ control in Voodoo, so what's left is just the compression feature. Personally, I stay away from compression apps/mods like the plague, because they end up altering the sound of the file and, IMO, if it's a properly mastered file/recording, you don't need compression (except for maybe some tube compression on a standalone amp for some 'warmer' sound... but that's not applicable here).
I stick to using EQ controls in the players apps. If you try that and just don't find they offer you the sound you want, then try an app like Voodoo. But be forewarned, I've seen (and experienced) some issues on other devices where apps like that can alter the audio framework of the rom permanently, so even after you uninstall it, the sound remains affected.
Best is in the eye of the beholder.
Users are expected to do their own research and try Roms to see what suits them best.

I would like to know if currently there is a way to get Samsung´s separate sound feature like this one on other Android phones, in my case an OnePlus phone. Also, if it´s possible to modify android to also allow multiple audio app playback (like playing spotify and youtube at the same time).
Is it already possible or it would really require some kind of audio engine redesign? Couldn´t this work with magisk modules and root?

If what you are asking about is a Samsung specific feature, you will not be able to use it because Samsung specific apps and features only work with Samsung stock software.
I just find my one plus one and i am thinking of repurpose it as mp3 player since it would no longer fuction anyway after july 1. However, i reset the phonw and i just find out i can;t even go to plsy store to get media player app nor my bluebooth headset app. Is there a way around irt
In 2022 I am using it as a normal smartphone.no issues with havoc 3.12 custom rom. Sound quality with Dolby mod and xtream music mod is amazing.
like on any android there are more options besides the google playstore. i know that F-droid is a safe option and otherwise just google around on sites where you can download apk's to install them
I got one recently. Had sold my original One when the 2 came out. Have Lineage 18 Official, Opengapps and Magisk with Safetynet fix. Works perfectly. Just needed to resize System partition and followed the guide at: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...system-partition-and-maybe-even-more.4153599/
