simple question, which factory image to flash? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I can't find any info on this so I thought I'd ask here, I have an unlocked Pixel that I bought from Google, and my company's carrier is Verizon.
Which factory image do I flash? In the case of 7.1.2 Nougat, do I flash the Verizon version (NHG47Q), or the unbranded one (NJH47F)? Also what's the difference? Does the Verizon version just come with a bunch of bloat? Do I need to flash the proper version for my carrier to get the appropriate radio settings?

Thanks guys

Ones for Verizon, the other is not. Also, Verizon doesn't use GSM, a lot of other carriers do.
Use Verizon if you have Verizon, otherwise it's not going to end up working very well for you. Might be an understatement.

Yep, can confirm. Hash of the radio image is different between the two, so it looks like that's where the difference is. Pixel was having trouble sending texts, and I was missing calls. Flashed the Verizon image and it's working much better. Thanks!

Hardware the same?

Besides the software programming are all HTC M8s the same? I've unlocked mine and soff wanted to flash a GSM ROM to convert it, would it be a true GSM phone? I'm just asking cause I believe the phone has a programmable radio and isn't locked into only CDMA but could be wrong. Thank you.

I have wondered the same, but I imagine the verizon m8 and the sprint m8 are the same hardware wise, and I think if you removed the cdma components then they may be the same as the at&t & tmobile versions. I seriously think like you it is the software that makes the carrier version, but the cdma part for verizon and sprint could be added hardware.
Overall I think the verizon and sprint versions could be completely carrier changed to at&t or tmobile.
There are guides on xda that tell how to unlock the other bands of gsm some report success and many report no success. Most of the posts are for people wanting to convert the verizon m8 to tmobile. A good amount report success but they say they have to toggle airplane mode quite a bit to force Lte connection.
I have seen a lot say when installing a rom such as viperone they chose to install it as the tmobile version and they report this helps.
Many keep asking can they flash the tmobile firmware to their verizon m8 and no one seems to know probably because their is a good possibility they will brick their verizon m8, so no one seems to be willing to chance it with good reason.
I think this subject is actually losing interest with devs because of the m9 due out in weeks, so honestly I would not expect to see anything done on this for the m8 unless its working on the m9 that they crack how to do it and find out it applies to the m8 in the process.
I really wanted to do this myself because I wanted to convert to a dev edition and get updates direct from htc and get to ditch all verizon software completely which would have been awesome

Well I have phone insurance and extended warranty so I don't care if I brick mine, I have been working on converting it to a GPE regardless. I'll let you know the outcome. Im looking forward to the M9 as well. I am still planning on keeping my droid turbo.

There are differences - in the the partition layout in the NANDs, so it's kind of risky to try it out. Every ROM, RUU, OTA, Firmware, Radio etc. you install have instructions for writing in particular partitions. And they are a lot, i've seen devices with 78 partitions. So that is the big stop i believe. As far as i know there's no other differences, i mean it's easier for HTC to differentiate the phones by making 3,4 or 5 versions with partition layout needed for carrier specs, than producing 5 or more SOCs. Hardware manufacturing is a costly process. So long story short 99,95% chance of brick.
i know that the board with the charging port on it is different for the Verizon version. i broke mine and it seems like all the part suppliers only have the gsm/sprint version. they all have the part labled with the H/K model number.
So what happened?

If your asking if i was able to get it repaired yet? The answer is no. I've still been unable to get a source for the part. everyone only has the one with only one antenna connection on it. Now the question i have is what dose that 2nd antenna do.

[Q]Does anyone know which variant is or is going to be the most mod-friendly?

I'm coming from a LG G3 were the mods were in overwhelming favor and support for the T-mobile version.
Just want to know if the carrier is going to matter if I'm someone interested in trying out roms
T-mobile usually don't lock down the bootloader. AT&T and Version both will be so locked down it will be months if at all before their variants will be mod-able.
Talking about US models? Sprint and T-Mobile bc they don't lock the bootloaders.
What would you personally prefer over T-mobile or Sprint?
Edit: I think its safe to asume that you prefer Sprint

I'm on a family plan, so it's not what I prefer, it's my parents haha. Sprint coverage sucks, BUT they're customer service is good, plus they don't lock the bootloaders. I've had Sprint since it was Nextel lol (15+yrs).
Related question, if I have a Verizon plan, can I buy a Sprint S6, easily unlock the sim-restriction (if there is one) and use my verizon SIM card?
With this chip it will be hard pressed for any to really be mod friendly

Didn't matter in the end. Sprint and Tmo wouldnt let me buy full-retail price of the phone without a plan
My only wish is that the S6 gets multirom (I don't know the reason why S5 didn't get it). It's a lifesaver.
Xposed will eventually be available, and root enables a number of other tweaks... but multirom. That's where I put my "prayers".

Depending on the model is depending on if the bootloader will get unlocked. Without that multirom is not an option.

Well... T-Mobile and Sprint vs come with unlocked bootloaders, right? And I believe the international vs will come the same way... that's how some people already got root in their S6, right?
With that, the first thing needed is a custom recovery and the patched kernel... that's where it might get tricky, for the exynos processor. If I'm not jumping to conclusions.
Does anyone know about the Canadian versions and their bootloaders?

Sometimes they do yes but no promises. It really all depends. As for recovery that will be up to the very few that still work on this chipset. Many of the bigger developers have walked away from Samsung because of their lies about this chip and the issues it causes with anything but touch wiz roms.

I dont know anything about s7 u version. I just thought about update and relaized that it depends on carrier. I contacted the Straight Talk through live chat. He said they dont update android os but after unlocking I can get updates. They didn't make much sense, so is it true after unlocking I will be able to do all updates?

If the hardware is the same as the rest of the major carriers, like the S7 versions are, then flashing the firmware of other carriers will work if that's what you're going for. No idea if this will work as of yet but by the end of the week I'm sure we'll all know the answer to that. But by the sounds of it, you will need to get your phone carrier unlocked before doing that.

Dependent on carrier unless you are able to flash the US unlocked version, then it comes directly from Samsung. But like stated above, we're not exactly sure if that's an option as of yet.

Can a GSM SM-N975U work on verizon?

If it's unlocked from T-mobile, can I use it on verizon? If not directly, then is there a safe, verified way to flash the verizon firmware which will make it 100% identical to the verizon version with everything working and future OTAs etc?
Considering getting a used one for a good deal, but I use verizon.
Thanks!
Yes, all the N975U models are the same. You can flash the Verizon firmware if you want, it will turn it into the retail Verizon version of the phone.

there is no such thing as a GSM Note or S series phone that ends in a U or U1. They are all literally the same as stated in the response before mine. Ever since the S8, all galaxy phones built for the USA market are all the same. Thankfully. That GSM or CDMA version thing they had going on for a while was irritating LOLOL

Flash Canada firmware on US unlocked

So someone is the Fold subreddit said that he was able to flash the Canada firmware on his US unlocked fold and everything works including 5G. Is this true? Are there any downside from doing this? Thanks for any imput.
My understanding is that you need a device that supports the bands your carrier uses, that's all. The U1 has the widest carrier coverage. I have tried to find info on whether you can flash a firmware to get other bands, and perhaps that's what you are asking, but I doubt this.
Which carrier are you on?

Yes it is possible. They are the same device and you can cross flash. But why do you want to?

Not so much wanting to but was just trying to educate myself if it was possible. The whole discussion was to get the new Android 11 update sooner since unlocked models are the last to get it.

I went ahead and did it ...I'm actually loving it! I'm just going to keep the sm-f916w version since it seems to get the faster updates and also as a plus I can see less samsung spam ads for some reason. I could be wrong but my samsung pay no longer displays ads all over the place as it has a more clean look. I dont get multiple notifications about turning on my phone finder offline or whatever as the US version did. That was driving me nuts!
I flashed it to my Tmobile U model yesterday which i had U1 on. Works fine.
