Hey all. Unfortunately, I can't post in the development forum because this is my seventh post. :crying: Anyways, I had a comment about the verizon root and hopefully somebody can either move this to that sticky or answer... Anyways...
I wanted to see what was done to the modified image to make sure nothing strange was put in it. I downloaded the 'orig' from fus, extracted the image, and ran a md5 check on all the files. I then downloaded your system.img file and ran a md5check on all the files. I found two files were added...

> 65bd72996c68f289c5fa0b81f0874127 app/Superuser.apk
2007a2009
> d1a9de9724c662a50a9a128e48b1fb37 xbin/su
#
When I tried to find the versions of those files and the md5 hashes, they don't match. Here's your version...
65bd72996c68f289c5fa0b81f0874127 app/Superuser.apk
d1a9de9724c662a50a9a128e48b1fb37 xbin/su
I then downloaded 'superuser' from http://androidsu.com/superuser/, which I'm assuming is the source. For the 3.1.3 version, I get this...
MD5 (system/app/Superuser.apk) = e0bc7b7284b68c9539b6ec6b306310e0
MD5 (system/bin/su) = 054c9a22d8900d50ce6172fd56bbf414
For the 3.2-RC2 version, I get this...
MD5 (system/app/Superuser.apk) = d0abb9413f712f2f7dd43ed47df6c2d8
MD5 (system/bin/su) = 96c672c1339da363232f42dd87b4a3cf
As you can see, the md5's are different which make me a little uneasy about it. I was wondering if anybody knew of the source for these. I think I just email'ed invisiblek the same thing, but don't know if it would get to him or not. Maybe somebody else knows the answer.
Thanks!
WTF?
Im confused, I see active topics saying the S3 hasn't got root yet due to the locked boot loader, I also see active topics saying it has been unlocked + rooted..
answer
OK, I still haven't got my s3, so I haven't tried it. But from what I read, you can flash a custom system.img and put su and supervisor.apk on it. This allows you to get 'root' on the device. Here's a reference...

Verizon Failed on on Odin now stuck at SIII boot screen
I tried the procedure with rooted.system.img and Odin 3.07 and it threw root Xmit Write fail. Then it just hung.
I pulled the battery and now it won't boot. I tried doing Vol Up + Home to do a hard reset to no avail.
I also tried Samsung-Updates.com-SCH-I535_VZW_1_20120705143513_fti2qg2lmf file through Odin with no success.
I've rooted phones in the past but never through this method.
I'm hoping I haven't bricked it.
I have a spare 16 GB card if I can recover something that way.
I can't reactivate my old Rezound because now the SIM card is invalid and they are two different sizes so I can't use the new one in the old phone.
1. Bootloader is [still] locked
2. Root has been achieved
Solved the problem. I tried a better micro usb cable and a different usb port.
Everything went great after that. I'm now rooted fully.

The answer is that this type of question doesn't belong in the dev threads, but in the S3 Q&A forum. If MD5 doesn't match, then you have a bad download or bad copy, or the posted MD5 is incorrect.

What do you mean you can't boot up? You need to be on download mode, or are you telling me that you can't get into download mode?
If you can't get into download mode then you're out of luck.

OK you said in your OP that you can get into DL mode. Follow the second post of that guide for getting Heimdall One-Click up and running. Then flash heimdall per the directions of the guide. You'll want to flash WITH bootloaders. Just relax and read through it. It will fix your problems.
Before you do anything, uninstall Kies Mini and use usbdeview to uninstall android and samsung drivers. Then proceed with Lumins guide. If you DO NOT UNINSTALL DRIVERS I can assure you there is no way to get out of hard brick unless you have a jig.
Tip: Uninstall drivers that has the name Samsung or Android.

Actually not true. If you use a different USB port then the one the Kies drivers are linked to Heimdall Drivers will install just fine. I've got Odin, Heimdall, and ADB running for two different phones on my laptop. And this guy is soft bricked not hard bricked.

That's what I'm thinking. Or when he flashed with Odin he flashed vibrant firmware to it? Have you ever seen that error before?
Cant say that I have. It could be I havent ever flashed a rom not for this phone.
AdamOutler says one clicks have a safety that keeps you from flashing the wrong software. That might be what is happening. Maybe the op needs to use heimdall-frontend to flash a tar.gz. /shrug.
nemeancestus are you comfortable using regular heimdall? You can flash the files used in the one click with heimdall-frontend. I will link the tar.gz, download it. In heimdall-frontend the first tab will give you the ability to load a package. Browse to the folder you downloaded it in. It will decompress the tar.gz once that is done in the package files pane it will list the files. Once it does that select load it will take you to the flash tab and load the files for you. Now put your phone in download mode and it should show as connected in heimdall. Dont change any of the options set. Just hit flash. After that it should reboot and you will be on stock plus blastoff kernel. You will need to flash a different rom tho wifi does not work and it doesnt have busy box or su preinstalled. Just reboot to recovery and flash a new rom.
The link might not be active yet give it some time I just put it on drop box.

same thing happened to me too about 2 weeks ago. couldn't get past the google log in screen. The only way i was able to get around it was to use the Samsung bypass apk that is floating around on the web. I just bought an otg flash/usb drive for about $12 and used that to install the apk on the phone. worked perfectly. Hopefully you can get your hands on an otg flash drive soon and your problem should be solved my friend.

Have you fixed it ?
Don't panic. You're not screwed.
This happened to me. Odin flash the correct firmware (so if you were on COI5, you need to flash official T-Mobile COI5). It will reboot into Android and when you're going through the setup wizard it will say something like "this phone was previously locked, please enter your Google account to unlock it." Put in the google account you had on the phone before and the password and voila; it will work.
In the future keep OEM unlocking enabled to avoid this
Disregard that, I can't read

Avoid buying phones from people via Craigslist. If they aren't stolen, chances are the former owner is scamming some other way.
Simple way to tell the seller's motivation: If they know what they're doing, they'll use Swappa, if they've stolen or otherwise borked the phone, they'll use Craigslist.

Can anyone help? I spent a big chunk of my hard earned money on a refurbed S6 for my daughter, she's had it about a week (she's Pokemon mad btw). The latest update for Pokemon Go came out and now she's blocked from the game as it appears the phone has been rooted. If I'd known, I wouldn't have bought it. Anyway, for the last 2 days my partner and I have been trying to unroot it. We've used various versions of Odin to no avail. I had a lot of trouble finding the right firmware because it looks like the phone was Polish according to the version and CSC numbers, and tbh I'm still not sure if we're trying the right one. Software is 5.1.1. right now. I've tried installing SuperSU but it won't run, it just crashes the phone and forces a reboot. We've tried manually unrooting with a file manager but the su files we need to delete reappear seconds after they're deleted. I'm at the end of my tether, does anyone have any ideas?
You won't be able to unroot it until you flash stock firmware. I don't know if the game checks the knox status.
Give this a go

Unforunately my partner spent almost all night trying to flash the firmware. According to him it 'nearly' worked, however, I now have a phone stuck in a boot loop. :crying:

I think I would give original firmware of your country and odin a try. One of possible ways is to download all needed files from the site of sammobile.
For me this way works every time when I stuck in boot loop. Odin functionates when you are in download mode. Switch off your s6, then start by pressing home-, powerbutton and Volume down at the same time.
Then start Odin on PC, then connect USB and so on.

When you select emergency recovery theres an option where you have to write the device model and the serial number
Use kies 3 on your computer. When you get it do a "firmware upgrade and installation" it will ask for your serial number which you can get from download mode when pressing the home key. After that kies 3 will ask to boot your phone to recovery but instead boot to download and bow your phone will flash to stock. This method always work!!

@amber_1978, Pokemon Go does not check for root. The only thing it does seem to check for is location spoofing via another app. I'm using it on a rooted, Knox tripped, Xposed installed phone with no issues.
If you want to return the phone back to stock, the best way IMO would be to use Odin to flash a stock image, such as the EPD1 firmware.

Really? Did you do the latest update in the game and it still worked ok? This phone has definitley not been used for location spoofing by us and I'm pretty sure there were no apps of that nature on the phone. I downloaded a root checker when everything went wrong the other day, it said the phone was rooted. I'm totally at a loss tbh. Right now it's still in a boot loop. Trying to flash it with Odin as we speak.
Just an update. Tried Smart Switch. Tried the model and serial numbers on the back of the phone case, these weren't recognised so I went to the recovery screen and hit the home button and got a completely different set of numbers. Different IMEI, model number, you name it. I'm assuming this is why Odin won't work, I'm looking for the wrong firmware? I obviously have Frankenstein's phone. No idea what to do now.
Best thing to do is to flash TWRPP and try to flash a custom stock rom through the TWRP recovery which does not have root installed..... If that doesn't work try to find a generic stock firmware for Odin, meaning a firmware that can run in any country..... If all else fails update it to 6.0.1 stock firmware. Try the closest firmwares to your location.
And if you do manage to get to the Samsung logo let the phone sit there for a good 10 minutes even if it reboots....
When I bricked my Samsung I used masiks custom 6.0.1 rom based on stock, but had all the links to bootloaders cscs radios and what not so giv that a shot if you can find it.

So I have followed Hydromans rooting instructions closely, but no matter what, I am failing in Odin. Even tried to flash fresh firmware in case I missed a setting somewhere, but Im stumped. Dev Options on, both boxes ticked, downloaded boot.tar from Hydromans link, Odin 12.3. Samsung drivers are up to date as well. Ive even used debloater to block Knox packages first, but fail, fail, fail. How did you overcome this in order to set SELinux to permissive??
