I have found a list with new features for the One here. Mostly all apply for the One mini.
New things:
Do Not Disturb, very cool thing that simply sets phone in Do No Disturb mode. You can set for how long and who/to be excluded from it. Turns of sound, notifications and all such things that might disturb. Accessed for the pull down quick settings menu.
Gallery have changed a lot. Albums now have a tiled look much like events, and you can now see your HTC Shares and even delete those (and see how much space there's left there). Video highlights got all new themes, and you can even add your own music.
In Camera Sweep Panorama can now be both landscape or portrait. Camera UI changed a bit, you see text Zoe under the Zoe button. And when you start Camera you see how many photos and minutes video there's left on the phone's storage.
With screen lock active, swipe to the left in the upper right part of the screen. Then you get a + sign where you can add screen lock widgets.
Under Call in Settings you have Phone Notification Preview, which shows you caller ID missed calls on screen lock and status bar.
If you don't want both lock screen and security screen you can disable screen lock (you need a security lock first) under Settings > Security > Bypass lock screen on wake.
Select what kind of notifications you want on lock screen under Settings > Security > Notification Settings. You can select: Phone (shows missing calls), Voice mail, Text messages, Emails and Calendar.
Select if you want Music playback controls on not on your lock screen under Settings > Security > Music Playback
With Developer options active, option Stay awake is now back. Which keeps the display on while charging.
Pull down quick settings menu can now be customized, with up to 12 quick settings.
In Weather app you can now select temperature scale under Settings.
You can add your Google+ account in Blinkfeed.
Disable Blinkfeed by long pressing empty area of a regular screen, then tapping “Blinkfeed on” on the upper left hand corner. Which turns Blinkfeed off.
Under Sleep mode in Settings > Power, you can now set start and end of Sleep mode or have it set as Auto.
With phone turned off: alarms can now turn phone on, then trigger the alarm. And when you dismiss the alarm phone gets turned back to its previous state (off), this is a major thing.
Zoom-bar in camera is hidden, you pinch-zoom to control zooming (zoom-bar is shown when you pinch-zoom).
Connect charger to phone while it's off while show a charging “animation” on the display for a while.
Things different from Sense 5.0, things that are “missing”:
Screen lock option gone from Personalize, there is no settings for any kind of screen lock theme under Settings. You can’t set screen lock theme to “none”, and there is no way to set wallpaper for lock screen since screen lock themes are gone.
T9 layout gone from stock keyboard.
Known bugs:
With Animations turned OFF under Developer options, Share menus and things will simply not work. It affects more than just one thing, so: keep animations ON. So, if you're affected: Set all Animations to 1 and restart phone (that part is important).
In lock screen you can add some widget: swipe to left and click + icon
You can also "personalize" lock screen from settings/security/notification but just for missing calls and sms !
With Sense 5 you can set also email and calendar, the ones that now I miss !!!!
Edit: after some test I'm really disappointed that even with missing calls and SMS notification active they don't came on lock screen but only in notification bar, so this is also a bug !

Oh no! These are two of the features I enjoy most! So, no more weather animations on screen lock at all???

You can still put widgets on lock screen, while on lockscreen swipe to the left in the right top corner. There's also a small arrow, press on the "+" and add a widget but I think it's not possible anymore to add it on the main lockscreen :/ yea I miss a notification system like Apple has. Google should built it in, in android and give the devs the option to add it into there apps like Apple do

Hi,
I'm back to screen lock bug notification win Sense 5.5...
To be sure of this bug, before I contact htc support, can someone do a test ?
It's easy: set the notification for Text Message, go screen off and ask a friend to send a sms to you; when received wakeup screen and check notification if it is only in notification bar or also in lock screen...
Thanks.
Confirmed that text & missed call notiications don't show on lockscreen.
Also, I can only add 1 lockscreen widget it seems - once added, swiping to left again does nothing. Is this by design?
Thanks for confirming the lock screen notifications bug...
Yes, I think only one widget is by design (the widget can occupy all the screen...)

But then can't add any more widget screens to the right? That really sucks. It's always 1 step forward, 2 steps back with HTC ...
Maybe I didn't understood...
In lock screen you can add only 1 widget, but in normal screen you can have many pages with a lot's of widgets...
bug with log screen confirmed, regardless, disabled or enabled in security settings, I can not see notifications for missed calls or messages on lock screen. Can we install some app from the market in order to fix this issue (while waiting for HTC to fix it)?
Another nice new feature is the option to adjust the Automatic Brightness setting - can now set the maximum brightness value, works a bit like iOS.
Also the Music Player widgets now have a blue circle around the play icon to indicate duration of track remaining.
Anyone else finding that the Airplane widget takes you to settings now, instead of toggling Airplane mode? I'm no longer getting the rolling Airplane animation.
Sent from my HTC One mini using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I confirm, it also takes me to settings. As a solution you can set airplane mode in the notification bar toggles.

Hi! I am confirming the bug with missing notifications on lock screen on my One Mini. HTC support had no knowledge about this bug. Are there any work-arounds to get notifications on lock screen? All apps I have found can show notifications on second (swipe right) lock screen only and it does not work for me.
I do not have this bug on my HTC One (not mini) with same Sense version.
Regards!
In gallery, i can :
- make gif from my video
- apply custom effect
---------- Post added at 06:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:02 AM ----------
But somehow, i never can display my gallery content in blinkfeed. Any solution?
For lockscreen notifications i use Nils new floating panel. Really best solution so far. Its still in Beta but working great

I have only 'Phone calls' and 'Text Message' in the security -> notifications. No emails / calendar.
Also wondering if I'm the only one who's music is suddenly stuttering every now and then since 4.3 (more an Android 4.3 thing than a Sense 5.5 thing I guess)

I can confirm this. On BT the music is hanging randomly, this is very annoying. If it's the same with cable, then this is a huge bug.
Reading here there seem to be a lot of down sides to the new 4.3 update. that or it's still in it's early stages of development? I'm still using 4.2.2 and loving it, but was wondering if there was anything major I'm missing by not upgrading?

This is enough for me for an upgrade :good: :good:
So now that we have the new cm12 officially released i am having some issues with the new way notifications and the lock screen works.
To explain:
Whats annoying to me is that when i set my phone to vibrate only (so set sound profile to all) but with the settings to not show the messages on the lock screen, i cant see if i have any notifications at all.
The top notification bar will instead show my provider instead of the icons of lets say whatsapp.
Is there a way to change this?
Next to that have to admit that the priority thing is confusing to me,, i'm never sure what means what and what will actually happen with which setting.
The other issues is the lockscreen, i have a pattern protection setup, and waking the device up should bring me to this screen and not an extra useless lock screen where i have to swipe up so i can do my pattern.
I know its nice if you need quick access to an app like camera, but i dont want it.
anyway to change this?
i have no answer, but i also would like to change the way notifications appear on the lock screen.
i miss the icons in the notification bar. i don't want to see a large rectangle letting me know if there is a text or other notification.
the speed at which the pattern appears is cute the first time, but after that it's excruciating. would like it to just appear.
I have the FRD-L04 with Nougat and updated to EMUI 5.0 OTA.
Been using this update for 3 days now. So far, I have this hate/love relationship with it.
Changes that I like:
-Allows built in call recording (in EMUI 4.1, any third party app wasnt able to successfully record calls and even if it did, the other end was very very low in volume)
-App drawer
-Pedometer on lock screen
Changes that I dislike/hate:
-Notifications when pulled down, won't show more than 1 line. For example, if someone messaged me on messenger or whatsapp, I can only see ONE line of text vs before where I can pinch and drag down to see at least 4 or 5 lines of text.
-system apps are now white in the background. For example clock, voice recorder, calculator now have a "light" background where as before it was a black/dark background. And there is no way to change it.
-notification icons do not show on status bar when lock screen is on, you must unlock phone to see this.
Any suggestions to any of the unlikes above?

My only issue with Floatify as a lockscreen is that there's a delay between when the screen turns on and when it loads. It's not awful, it's just not instant. As a result, I switched to just floating notifications on lockscreen instead of Floatify lock screen.
Do you experience this issue as well?
EMUI have a theme engine, you can use the Material theme to change the look. https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/themes Some themes aren't fully compatible with EMUI5 yet, but try the dark CM14 one for starter.
I distinctly remember if I try to expand the 1 line notification in EMUI 4.1, it lets you 'allow the app' which then lets you expand the notification, not sure if it's an issue EMUI5, it seems fine for me.
Likes:
-It sucked less than EMUI 4.1.
Dislikes:
-It's not stock Android.

Not 100% sure of your problem but I use floating on lock screen as well
I actually miss the pull down with notifications separate from quick settings.
Presses seem to not be registered as well. I feel like I press something and it sometimes takes a few before it responds.

mostly just negatives for me...
- I can no longer reply to messages from notification with Hangouts. Click on Reply launches Hangout instead of letting you reply inline.
- They still did not add back the missing function with Do Not Disturb function. On AOSP, when you turn it on, there's option of having it automatically turn off after a certain amount of time of your choice or when the next Alarm clock goes off.
- Bluetooth with my car is completely broken after Nougat so I had to revert back to Marshmallow.
- Wifi/Cellur data connection seems to take a while to 'wake up' after the phone goes to sleep for a while.
- Google Voice is broken.

Steps to reproduce:
Lock screen and turn off display
Press power button to turn on display
There's a maybe 100-500ms delay where you will see Huawei's default Magazine Unlock lockscreen before Floatify loads. If you've just recently viewed your lock screen, and repeat steps 1-2, Floatify's lockscreen will load instantly.

Unfortunately that doesn't work for those of us with corporate email accounts, screen lock is mandatory, and enforced by the device administration service (in this case Exchange synchronized through Gmail app). I can live with a short delay, it's not a deal breaker since Floatify is a significant improvement over the broken Magazine Unlock, and I only actually use my lockscreen on rare occasions due to the convenience of FPS unlock and screen on.

In reply to a few things mentioned above, to share my experience:
Bluetooth works fine, seamlessly reconnected to my car after update. (Isolated issue perhaps)
No issues with touch slow downs or unresponsive taps. (Isolated issue -- maybe apps installed with poor Nougat support?)
Eliminating the split notification panel and returning to AOSP Nougat style is a huge improvement. 90% of the time you're 1 swipe away from the content you want, and for the other 10%, you're only 1 additional swipe away. I also use the button configuration that has the notification shade pulldown in the right most nav postion.
While Google Voice may not work, you can make and receive calls through Hangouts using your GV number. For most people, the VOIP aspect is fine, although for some edge cases some may want to use Voice to make calls without a network signal.
Quick reply works for me when receiving and replying to Hangouts messages.
Not being able to expand notifications past 1 line -- I only have this problem so far on the stock Messaging app, I get multi-line expandable notifications for everything else.
What apps are only showing 1 line of text in the notifications?
Hi guys, first post. I am still enjoying the Honor 8.
Couple of niggles since updating to 5.0 that haven't been addressed previously, hopefully someone will have a solution.
1. Using WhatsApp I used to get the profile picture of the person msging me appear in the status bar, this was a cool little touch. Now I just get the standard WhatsApp voicebubble.
2. The app switch "square button" apps now display only vertically, I liked them scrolling horizontally, anyway of changing this.
Thanks all.
The Wifi calling feature is still not available. That is a shame!
The ROG mode is not enabled, even though I can turn the power saving with lowered resolution on in another setting interface. It is just not working as expected. That is strange.
When I use screen off and lock app and unlock using the finger print scanner it now makes me enter my lock screen password. So now I have to use my power button to shut my phone off if I want to wake my phone to the home screen using the finger print scanner.

I can confirm #1, although in my case it was Hangouts and Slack where I was seeing the profile icons. #2 is the way the Android AOSP recent apps have looked since 5.0 Lollipop in 2014, and for the most part even since 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2011. Huawei made significant modifications to the recent apps list in EMUI that were largely unpopular with the user base who preferred and was used to the way Recents worked for the past 6 years. You'll get used to it over time, it's a familiarity thing. If you're not used to AOSP or AOSP based ROMs like CM, Lineage, etc, it's a bit of a shock. Most OEMs also kept the AOSP-style Recents (LG, etc) even in their UI skins.
An additional issue I've noticed: When disconnecting from a charger, it always shows a popup with the battery percentage that has to be dismissed via button tap. I can't find a way in settings to disable this, has anybody else found it?
nice to know! still, annoying to ditch my pretty widget!
---------- Post added at 01:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:08 PM ----------
Which themes have the black notification backgrounds because the ones I've tried (via link provided) don't!
I'm on FRD-L04 and I cannot find any screen lock widget I don't think my phone has one. My honor 5x had one but this honor 8 never had one not even when it was marshmallow. What version of honor 8 do you have?
NEVERMIND I found it lol .
Anyway my opinion of the EMUI 5 update is that it is just a little less crappy than EMUI 4.1 The reviews made it sound like it was going to be this game changer when it's basically the same thing with a revamped notification pulldown and a few added features in settings. I really hope that we can get a functional custom ROM for this phone soon but without Huawei helping devs out with the proper stuff I don't see that happening anytime soon.
How long do these roll outs take? I am up to date according to software and still on Marshmallow. I even used the HI app
Hi there.
I am using Honor 8 an drunninf EMUI 5 with Nougat.
On lockscreen, when the phone is idle and screen is off, and i get messages on chat apps like whats app and others, the screnn does not wake up. Can someone tell me how to turn this on.
There is the bug where there are no notifications like you say ..
If you can set it in the settings from the app you want like in the whatsapp settings
and if it then works - good... if not there is then no way to have it working..
Some of us discussed it in other thred and it is a bug
Install Screen Notifications from google play.
Or Floatify, or any other replacement "lockscreen". I use Floatify myself.
If you want to keep the stock lock screen (as 3rd party lockers tend to cause more bugs), just install Nils lock screen notifications. It overlays the notifications on the stock lock screen for the most seamless integration.
Without a 3rd party solution, this phone only allows lock screen notifications from the stock apps and some google apps.
Theres an option in the settings called "Notifications turn on screen"
Just search it in the setting's search bar and turn that option on.

Always nice to answer to your own questions . Ambient display -> disable New Notifications. Oneplus logic escapes me.
Disable notifications
Go to the Settings app on android > Sound & Notifications > Scroll Down and App Notifications under notification section > Tap on App name installed on your mobile > Turn off the notification for the app.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, but I wanted just to disable wake screen for notifications not to disable notifications. Was a little confused initially since Oneplus seems to have two settings for the same thing. Got it in the end...
I have the same problem, but your solution does not work for me. As far as I can tell I have everything in ambient display turned off, but the screen still wakes up (to the normal lock screen). To confirm: THE TOGGLE SETTING "NEW NOTIFICATIONS" IS NOT HIGHLIGHTED, WHICH MEANS IT IS OFF. HOWEVER, THE SCREEN STILL WAKES UP.
In addition to that I even have "no notifications on lock screen" selected, which means my screen WAKES UP AND SHOWS NOTHING. It's distracting and useless at the same time. Very annoying.
I have now turned on "ambient display when I pick up the phone". This finally made my screen stop lighting up by itself, though of course now it does it when I pick it up. But at least it doesn't distract me while I'm working on my pc with my phone on the table.
I like my 7 Pro very much...and since this is my 2nd phone from OnePlus, I guess I am fairly satisfied with their implementation of Android Q. However, their way of setting up notifications is one of the worst things I have ever seen! It is convoluted, confusing, and counter intuitive.... not to mention just plain ridiculous. I hope they really get on the ball with the issue of notifications and their useless Horizon light very SOON because a cell phone without proper, accurate, notifications totally defeats the purpose of having a "portable" communications device.

I am having the same issue, how did you get the screen to stop waking up?
I'm trying to find a fix for this, as well. I have an app that wakes screen besides delivering the notification with/without sound. And now I realize I have another one. I also want to have those notifications on, but without waking my screen, just like most of the other apps' notifications. And this is not related to ambient display. In my case, I have stock Android, on a Pixel 3XL.
Thanks!

Actually, there is a fix now, if you run Android 13. Under Apps->Special app access, there is a new option called 'Turn screen on'. I disallowed the annoying app and solved my issue.
I want to disable lock screen wake up for text messages and still no luck on S23. I went under special app access and disabled "Turn screen on" for the messages app (and others), and guess what? The screen still comes on when I get a text. HOLY ANNOYING.
You can turn Lock Screen Notifications completely off, but I dont want that. I want the audible notification to come in without turning the battery draining screen on, and when I tap the screen with my finger I want to see the app badge that tells me when app the notification came in on (signal, or messages, or fakebook, etc). If it's fakebook I may ignore it for example.

As I said in my post, I don't want to disable notifications, I want to disable lighting up the whole screen. The notification icon should show on the always on display without going full annoying brightness on the screen for 5 seconds. That's just dumb.

You might want to consider utilizing the Google Issue Tracker which is a tool used internally at Google to track bugs and feature requests during product development.
For Do Not Disturb - If you have the setting "Always show time and info" enabled (Settings > Display > Lock Screen > Always show time and info) your screen will display a dimly lit clock when the screen is locked, among some other status icons.
In the DND settings, if you check "Don't wake for notifications" and you get a new notification (text, ig, whatever the notification is), it will not show on the screen until you unlock the phone. It will just display that clock and you'll be unaware of the notification.
If you UNcheck "Don't wake for notifications", the lock screen with the large dimly lit clock will change to show the small icons for whatever the notification is.
If you do NOT have enabled the setting "Always show time and info" (Settings > Display > Lock Screen > Always show time and info), I imagine it would be the same behavior, except you would see a difference when you manually wake up (but don't unlock) your screen--you would either see that you got a text message or whatever the notification is, or you wouldn't until you fully unlock the screen.
