h.264 10-bit Video Support - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

hello,
I might buy the HTC U11 soon but need to make sure it can play an h.264 10-bit video using hardware decoding.
name of the video: [1080p][16_REF_L5.1][FLAC_5.1]Suzumiya Haruhi no Shou****su BD OP.mkv
this is a link for the sample video:
https://www.koi-sama.net/files/hi10/
I really appreciate the help, thank you.

1080 MP3 one Tested and Works on VLC. Tried photos and video player supplied and didn't.
I downloaded wrong one so I'll try the other and update.
Both are as above. Flac works with VLC.

thank you, could you please test it on MX Player? and see if it is using h/w, h/w+ or s/w?

SW. It says HW decoder is not supported.
FWIW, it plays flawlessly.

Be sure to try MPV too.
I can tell you 10 bit h.264 with Dolby AC3 didn't work at all with MX player or VLC on my HTC 10. But it did work with software decoding on MPV.

Plays in MPV but it isn't as smooth as MX

Video player for the note

Hi all,
The stock player plays quite a few files natively but wasn't able to recognize the .mov taken with my friend's DSLR. I used to use MX player with my old phone and it worked great with HW acceleration but when I try to play the .mov (1080p) on the Note, only SW acceleration is available for the note which is quite choppy and it wont let me install any of the codecs from the market. Does anyone know of any other video players for the Note, or have got MX player working properly? I tried installing the ARMv7 codec on the note, is this the right version?
Thanks in advance,
Shaizer.
Im running DicePlayer which works great.
There's no problem playing mov-files in 1080p, I just tried a 1080p trailer in mov with DicePlayer and it worked perfectly. However I'm not sure what bitrate the your mov-file is?
I have Mx video player installed without any extra codec. Apparently the idea is you only need a codec if it actually asks for it.
I have so far tried various formats mp4, mkv (both 720 & 1080) and it has played them all.
I'm using QQ Player.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I use dice player too. It works great with all my HD/SD videos with subtitles.
Awesome thanks all, will try DicePlayer and see how that goes. The bitrate of my .mov files are 46MBPS I guess its a raw format as it is straight from the camera.
Dice Player plays MKV's flawlessly.

As does MoboPlayer and best of all it's free.
I haven't found Moboplayer quite as good as Dice Player, but I do use it occasionally (it's software decoding is a bit better than Dice Player's).
Also using MoboPlayer; it works well.

Mobo is the only one that works for streaming from my NAS ... except the sound does not work!
No other player I have tried (including the ones mentioned above) will stream at all and I have yet to find one that works with the sound

MKV x264 Support

I was testing out some MKV files, and noticed stock player cant decode ac3 or dts. I rencoded some x264 to have stereo audio and that did play in stock media player but when I used mhl mirror the video wasnt that smooth.
I have not been able to purchase the Media Link yet but it is my understanding that you can only mirror the stock media player in order to use the phone at the same time as video playing.
Anyone have the media link and have had x264 media playback success?
All I need is Dice Player. Plays all my 720p h.264 mkv movies perfectly.

Can dice player be used with media link for the video player?
The hardware decoder doesn't seem to be good. Using MX Player, not only is there no audio with AC3, the video playback isn't smooth. Everything is fine with one of the software decoders.

With Dice, hardware acceleration is barely able to play this .mkv. Very jerky.
With software acceleration though, what appears to be playing smooth on the phone doesnt play smooth when using MHL mirroring. So that what worries me about media link if a developer decides to make their own video player compatible using the media link api.
I wonder if mkv is just no supported natively, as unbelievable as it may be. HTC doesn't list it as a supported format in the specs.

I have had 0 issues playing MKV movies on this phone. I've managed to play 1080p mkv movies with Dice player. Even as I skip through the video, it keeps up faster than my laptop does.

Playing MKV DTS Videos?

What's the best option for playing MKV DTS movies on the TF300? All the new players won't do DTS audio, but I hear that older versions of some software, like Dice will. But, I'm not sure that the older versions will support/use the Tegra 3.
Thanks in advance.
Found solution, but shuttering: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34649108&postcount=16

Says it does multi-core decoding. I'd like know how well it plays your mkv files.
MX Player with h/w+ decoding plays mine just fine. I use DSP Manager for all my Audio.
Thx, but VLC doesn't play MKV DTS videos.

So you have no shuttering issues even with 1080p KMV DTS videos?
The shuttering is probably network related as I'm streaming it over WiFi, especially large files.
There's also XBMC for Android, I haven't tried it yet, but going to now: http://xbmc.org/download/
XBMC for Android works but isn't great at playing MKV files, really slow, shuttering.

Have you found a reliable option mate? I tried MX, Dice, VLC and all have problems with DTS. There is an option to use external filters in MX, but its unreliable. I tried several files, with bitrates from 2-3k to 20+k. MX with HW+ encoding plays smoothly, but no sound.
I think I tried SopCast player and it might have played DTS, don't really remember, maybe you can give it a try.
I'm using Galaxy Nexus. If you've found a solution, don't hesitate to PM me.

No sound while playing a 1080p mkv

I have a 3.25gb 1080p mkv and I have problem playing using mx player pro.
I have tried to switch to different mode - HW, HW+ or SW, video is fine but I got no sound at all.
If I use a different player like BS Player it works perfectly.
Note: I'm using Nexus 5 w/4.4.2 kitkat + Mx player pro 1.7.28 Armv7 Neon

Can you post the mediainfo of the file?
If it has dts audio track then you have to use custom codec.
thanks, it's dts.
I have downloaded the custom codec and now it's fine.
However, may I ask why this codec didn't include in mx player in the first place?
Also the one from the google play doesn't work. I had to use this:

The detailed answer is in the first post of the custom codec thread...!!!
In short DTS people is not ready to negotiate with SW players. So, to avoid copyright issues it's dropped from the official version.

h.264 10-bit video Support

hello,
I might buy the Galaxy S8 Plus ( Snapdragon Model ) soon but need to make sure it can play an h.264 10-bit video using hardware decoding.
name of the video: [1080p][16_REF_L5.1][FLAC_5.1]Suzumiya Haruhi no Shou****su BD OP.mkv

I really appreciate the help, thank you.
I tried them on my Verizon 8+ and get "unsupported video codec" using the default video player.
I have not tried d/l VLC or an alternative to see if that works, it may.
could you please check using mx player h/w+ or h/w
MX Player hw+ doesn't seem to have a problem with any of the sample video decoding, got a complaint about unsupported audio (AC3) on one of the files though.
thank you for your help, I just purchased the phone ( G955U ) and it isn't working on hw+, is there a Rom or kernel you are using?
I'm using bone-stock as provided by Verizon, with all current system updates.
Videos d/l to local SD card and played off that from within MX Player. I noticed some traffic where spawning video playback via file explorer may not work in some cases so I opened the file directly in MX.
The MX Player I used was the free edition, freshly installed.
I have since bought MX Player Pro, and of course it works on my device.
System performance settings are at the default, no tweaking so far (phone is 4 days old).
Good luck, sorry I don't have more help to offer, still new with the device.
thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.
If you haven't installed their codec pack, get it. I think it will fix your problems: MX Player Codec (ARMv7 NEON)
hello, tried it and didnt work, it does run 4k hevc 10-bit using hw but cant run h.264 10-bit unless I use sw (works well but fast battery drain).
thank you
Runs smooth and without problems or lags with the mx Player pro with the sw decoder. The hw decoder doesn't Work.
i use hw+
along with a custom codec for ac3
Yep custom MX codec canm be found here on XDA forum - use search.
It's up to 1.9.0... Anything older will get an "update codec" message....
I tried but no luck, it works on sw only, what is your phone's model?
mine is G955U Sprint Unlocked. all other codecs work ( even hevc 10-bit 4k ) but h.264 10-bit is only working on sw.
How do you setup the custom codec for AC3 (I recognize I'm being lazy by just asking...but I have a headache...)?
For C0derbear
Put on root directory of phoner or sd card and start MX player. Go to settings, and select "custom codec at bottom of list in decoder settings. Select codec with browser it opens.
That's if it doesn't detect the custom codec and ask to use it.
It will restart to apply codec...
