[Q] "Can't connect to Camera" with all AOSP Roms

So, I really have no idea what's wrong here. I've tried rebooting, everything. Fixing permissions, flashed different roms, tried different camera apps. Nothing.
Any ideas?

When I was searching for info, I came upon this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187556 seems that some people with the international version of the s3 have the same issue. Might be a good read on a possible way to fix it. If anything, I would revert back to stock and have the phone go through OTA updates to see if it will fix whatever is causing that error.
I fixed it, found the fix somewhere yesterday:
Before flashing, I made a backup of my system with CW
I extracted the SlimISP_ZH.bin from my backup and
copied it to my /data directory and it worked fine.

(I can't post links yet)

I have the exact same problem with my HTC One. Is it possible for you to upload SlimISP_ZH.bin again to something such as mega.co.nz?

[XT1032] CM 12 - Flashing TWRP v2.8.6.0 has caused bootloop

Hello,
XT1032 CM 12 latest nightly (I think)
I flashed TWRP v2.8.6.0 using their manager app. I entered recovery mode and everything seemed to work fine. I made a NANDroid backup then rebooted. Unfortunately the device was then stuck at the bootlogo and kept looping. I can still access recovery and fastboot but for some reason adb doesn't see the device, nor can my device's data be access under Windows 7. I don't recall if I had USB debugging on or not. I would like to try to backup a few files to my computer (the backup for instance) but I am unable to since I can't use adb as the device is not recognized. MTP through TWRP doesn't seem to work either. I do have the Universal drive pack installed already on Windows.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
To start with, let's make sure the files you want still exist.
1. Boot into TWRP recovery
2. Go to "Mount" and check that your "Data" partition is selected
3. Go back and then go to "Advanced" and then to "File Manager"
4. Navigate around (maybe /sdcard/ ? Depends what you're looking for) and find the files you need
If you can't find your file, you'll need some more help. Let's say you do see your file. Do you have a USB-OTG cable? You could plug a USB drive into your phone and mount that. Then you could copy your file to that drive. If you don't have the cable you do have some other options, but let us know how far you get.
EDIT: I know I haven't addressed the problem of the bootloop at all. Many of those solutions involve wiping so we need to make sure you've backed up all the files you need first.
First of all thanks for the help. :good:
I've been trying to find a solution and in fact flashing CWM worked. I was able to adb pull all the files and make a backup.
I backed up the content of the sdcard. I tried restoring the CWM nandroid with data only so it did reinstall the apps but unfortunately all their data and settings are gone. Making a full restore just goes back to bricking. So I have the nandroid and the data manually backed up to a computer but no idea how to restore it.
I've tried pushing the nandroid back to /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup after an unsuccessful restore but now it doesn't even work. (protocol failure, the push command fails)
honestly at this point I think the best solution is just to make a clean install. In fact it would be a good idea to just reset the whole phone and start with a clean slate with CM13 including wiping system files and maybe manually restore some key files and configuration (I've got all the .com files of relevant apps)
Do you know how to do that?

I'm not really a Nandroid expert, but I can take a few shots in the dark. When you did your backup you got a TAR file for System and one for Data, etc., right? Then you convert those to IMGs? If you upgraded and then restored the system backup I can see why that would result in a boot loop. Restoring the data image shouldn't cause such problems though. Is this what you've tried so far? You're right, though. The safest method is to manually restore the data of just the apps where you need that data, and do it one at a time. This would allow you to pinpoint what is causing the issue. Of course, I may have no idea what I'm talking about. I've never actually needed to restore a Nandroid backup! Hopefully someone with more experience there will chime in.
I thought to hell with it I went and solved the issue by installing CM13
Thanks for taking the time to help and see you next time

system/etc/permissions/ platform.xml

I have a known problem. My device won't boot, apps all crash because of a file permissions error.
I replaced system/etc/permissions/ platform.xml
I tried to re-enable the original the simple way, using a root explorer, but permissions to write are.. well corrupted. This is causing all system services to fail at boot and the tablet to crash. Basically it looks like I'm stuck with trying to repair it from recovery, or download mode (Odin) and I do not have a custom recovery installed, stock only.
UPDATE:
I now have Phil-Z recovery and Aroma File Manager. I replaced the platform.xml with the original file. Still, System is crashing on boot with several crashed app dialogs.
Seems I fixed what should have been the problem, but the problem persists.. help?
Solved
I did a factory reset after making a Nandroid backup then restored select apps with Nandroid Manager APK.

CM13-CM14.1 update-downgrade misery

Hi folks,
I fear i lost some of my data forever. Is there any way to get it back?
I recently updated my falcon device from CM13 to CM14.1 via the CM updater by accident, and it broke several of the phone's functionalities. Then I tried to revert back to CM13 (latest snapshot), and made the mistake of dirty flashing over CM14.1. Naturally, some base features like telephone were not working because of my dumbness, and panicking that I'll lose my data I dirty flashed again, back to 14.1, then came the idea to take a nandroid backup. Problem is, settings weren't accessible anymore. So i did a factory reset, clean flashed back to CM13 snapshot, then tried to restore my apps through NANDROID Manager app from google play. The apps were restored fine, but when I restored the app data as well, every app FC'd forever. Clean flashed 14.1, tried the same process, with the same results. Data restored, FC. Now I'm stuck here, afraid of having lost all my data due to my foolishness...
Is there any way to recover it?
Thanks in advance.
Copy the backup folder to your PC, inside there should be some files with .tar.a extension. Rename them to just .tar and then open the files using 7zip. All the files of your phone are there (system files, app files, photos, porn, etc.), just search and extact what you need.
Good luck.

How I fixed my bootloop problem without any format / data loss

Hello everyone, I was able to fix my bootloop occuring after flashing a zip on magisk, without any data loss. I wanted to share what I did to fix since it may be helpful for others. It is useful method worth trying if you know what caused the bootloop. It is definitely not a universal method of fixing bootloops or anything, but If you have a similar problem, you can try these steps.
The bootloop happened after I flashed a zip on Magisk that I downloaded using EdXposed Manager app. I remember downloading the latest alpha version zip and flashing it using Magisk (I had already had the riru core and riru edxposed modules installed on Magisk but on Edxposed manager app, it was showing some error, so I also flashed the zip that I downloaded using the app. I think this caused the bootloop somehow. ) I had no backups.
(I had also "unable to mount /data" problem on TWRP, I am explaining how I fixed that also, if you don't have the problem, you can skip this paragraph)
My TWRP version was 3.2.1.0. And when I was in recovery mode, I was getting "unable to mount /data" error. This is actually a well-known error, but I was able to fix it without a format by just updating my TWRP to 3.3.1.0. After the update, somehow, internal storage could be mounted and everything was fine. My goal by trying to fix this problem is to be able to have a backup using TWRP (using backup feature on TWRP) (just make sure that you didn't choose the compression option on options tab of TWRP backup page).
If you don't have "unable to mount data" problem at all, just make a TWRP backup. (just make sure that you didn't choose the compression option on options tab of TWRP backup page).
So, after having a TWRP backup of everything (actually just System and Data backup would also be fine), I tried to edit my backup files to fix the problem that caused the bootloop.
I changed 2 things in my backup files (you can edit the backup files ending with .win001 etc using 7zip on windows or anything similar. since the backup files are not compressed, you can just delete files) (I edited only the "Data" backup files due to my specific problem, but if your problem is something different, you may have to edit different files also):
1) I deleted everything about EDXposed manager(com.xx.edxposedmanager files) (It might have nothing to do with the fix, I am not sure)
2) In one of the data backup files (probably in the last one), there is a folder called "adb". In adb, there is a "modules" folder. I deleted riru core and riru edxmanager folders in modules.
After these steps, I restored "Data" and "System" using TWRP restore. Bootloop is fixed without any data loss.
If your bootloop is caused by something different, (the point I am trying to tell is) you can edit the nandroid backup files if you know the root of the problem and maybe fix your phone. When I was editing the backup files, I had no hope. As I said, I think this method is worth trying.
I Found this to be true. I also don't see the reason to reflash everything to fix a problem. Thank you for this tutrorial this is an undocumented tactic and i don't know why. Before i discovered this type of surgery i operated under the assumtion that android must be different from other operating systems in some way which would make this impossible. But like you i delved deeper and discovered that this is like a dark art the devs keep to themselves because of what ever but it works. I like this type of post and usually aside from asking for help or a little feed back this is the only type of post i ever make. I mean how do you expect people to learn how to do anything if you never teach them anything useful. EX: "You didn't do it exactly right from the beginning because if left out one thing in my tutorial so you would fail now erase everything and start over." "I only did that to teach you to backup" such bull ****! Thanks again for fighting the good fight.
