Rooting and Roms ? - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

Hello,
Basically I'm trying to root my XZ(F8331) and trying to install a rom, but I've got a bit of an issue and need a complete backup of the entire phone before I proceed to root and rom the phone (as from my understanding it will wipe everything on my phone). So how would I go about doing so ? I'm on 7.1.1 and honestly cannot tolerate how slow my phone has become, also rom suggestions are welcome(looking for a stable, fast rom with a working camera). If there are other similar posts please link me them and I'll close this thread.
Thank you

[Completed] Need stable immersive mode and custom rom

I have a ZTE Grand X Max+ (only a Cricket phone) now. I rooted with kingroot, installed twrp recovery and flashed supersu. Since then, aside from all the exploring of the app store for the only-root apps, I am in desperate need of a verified and fully stable custom rom. If anyone knows of one for me please let me know. I need it so badly.
In the meantime, I am taking advantage of immersive full screen and I have tried 3 paid apps and few of the free too. All either cannot let you fix the brightness on a widget, use the button for recent apps on your custom soft keys or don't let you accept incoming calls. Can someone who is familiar with this whole topic of immersive mode please reply with a fully functional immersive mode/full screen app. As I've said, I have tried from the best of the paid version root immersive apps in the play store.
Thank you to all who have read my requests and all of you should all have an awesome weekend.
Looking forward to your feedback.
Hello,
I looked around for ROMs for you but came up inconclusive due to dead links and ROMs full of issues.

Thank you very much for your time and effort. I actually was stuck without a rom after following a rogue set of instructions for something I forgot what for but it said to wipe out certain cache and I didn't have a backup of my stock rom. I went searching for a custom rom and used one for the Grand X Max, an absolute no no and I don't k of what I was thinking. But I flashed it with twrp and it worked, don't know why. There were many bugs in it. Luckily I found the stock rom and flashed, then rooted, flashed twrp and supersu zip again. But my point is that during the time living with no os, I was a madman searching for a rom and didn't find one for my phone. You are a lot more experienced than me, that's a given. If you could find any stable ones, I will definitely follow the directions you gave me. Thank you again.

If your device is back on stock and working normally and you are rooted, try looking in to using the Xposed installer and its' modules to customize your stock ROM, with the right modules you can make your stock ROM as cool and feature packed as a custom ROM. Try the "L Speed" mod also.
I love learning more and more, day by day about living with my rooted phone. Is it possible that you can please give me basic direction so that I can get started with Xposed?

Unroot without losing data and custom kernel?

Hi at risk of been repetitive im going to ask something that might have already been answerd on the the forum but given the specific caracteristic of my device i hope someone can answer anyway
Thing is i have a rooted nexus five (6.0.1 Stock ROM) with Ek kernel and I was wondering if i could unroot through the SuperSu menu without losing any data and keeping the custom kernel just so i could install the lastest OTA update and encrypt my phone. It seems i would have to flash stock boot.img to encrypt but i dont know if this is enough to update and encrypt without losing custom kernel and data in the process as I pretend to inmediatly root after doing these two things. Also if anyone can recommend a good alternate kernel for perfomance/battery life just in case there is a better option although i have to say im very happy with this one.
Hope this particular question hasnt being answerd before and any help would be aprecciated
Thank you very much

MI4C Flashing custom recovery & custom ROM

Hello guys, i am noob at flashing recoveries or ROMS, i would like to know what are the chances to brick my phone even if i do everything right?
If you do everything perfect, there is a 0% chance to brick your phone. However, it is very hard to do it perfectly.
I have rerooted 3 tines, put 6 roms on my phone (xiaomi.eu is my current favourite) and installed xposed twice. The only brick I ever had was for flashing a bad kernel (me being stupid). I fixed it in 30s with TWRP.
Just don't mess about, install SuperSU, and don't give root to any unknown app.
I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4c/general/guide-unlocking-mi4c-bl-verification-t3336779/ to root my phone, Installed TWRP from the official website (if it doesn't respond to touch don't panic, leave it alone for two minutes and it works again) , and then installed xiaomi.eu's rom.
Happy Flashing

New Official Update Messes Up Camera - Suggestions for roms?

There are a few problems I've seen so far:
When taking photos on auto-timer mode they're blurry and out of focus + some specific bug with the gif-creation method.
I've no idea how to send a bug report to Samsung (if you do, do tell) and I really need an operational camera.
So, I decided to install a rom instead.
Recommendations for the roms with the best camera-related software?
Other things I hold as important are night mode and battery saver
Ps before someone brings it up:
I have experience with installing roms. I gave the original rom a try for once. I'll still go over the actual rom threads of course but if you can save a sister some time and share some knowledge, help would be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot and stay safe ya'll
I feel worst camera quality with every update! Don't know what's going on!
IS your Snapdragon or Exynos version?
may update
if you have updated to the may security update i dont think you will be able to flash roms as samsung have locked the phones ((s10e) out, i cannot root anymore and you cant factory reset! i was running stock rom with root and magisk and after flashing may release in odin with patched firmware the phone started acting very strange, flashing screen and unresponsive i had to reflash stock and all is well but no more root, twrp or magisk !! i may be wrong but that is my experience if anyone knows different please tell gutted!
update: was a bit rusty didn't realise the may update needed an updated twrp recovery, I flashed may update on April twrp!! - all fixed now on ctd1 with 104 twrp and root is well, many thanks to all the developers who make it possible, cheers! if you do flash above make sure you don't update your time zone data you will get a notification dont let it install as you will be starting over again!! switch off automatic time updates, this has been my experience! thanks all.

question about ROM - Samsung S9 SM-G960F (PHN)

hi everyone, I am new to this forum.
i've been interested in rooting / mods for my old Samsung s9 to give it a new life.
I did so by rooting it using the TWRP app in combination with the Magisk V23.0
now what happened was that i was downloading some random apps yesterday and for some reason the phone went on bootloop...
i accidentally deleted the system without making a backup lol... a little stupid of me...
now it keeps telling me that i've no OS on my phone. i was thinking that i could easily find the ''un-edited'' or simple version of my original OS. but i've looked through many sites without succes.. either looks 2 good to be true or just fake...
is there anyone who can advise me on what to do? i just want my phone to work with any OS right now... but which one is the cleanest or best to use? i do prefer a newer os like 10
thanks in advance!
If you still have access to recovery mode, your best choice would probably be installing LineageOS. It's the most lightweight ROM and many ROMs are based on Lineage. From what i can see, your phone is no longer officially supported.
I found this one based on Lineage 18.1 (Android 11). Before installing, take a look at the bugs, working, and installing sections.
And don't forget to install the Google Apps after installing the system and before rebooting.
that looks crispy. i appreciate your quick & good advise. can you tell me wether i can still run Magisk on it?
Yes, you can still flash Magisk or any type of root with both the OS and the GApps.
what i'm consider about is, wether a region code CRC matters?
