[RESOURCE] Substratum Rescue Archives - prjkt.io

I've been getting a lot of messages regarding just having the archives handy on an SD card.
Here, you can download the latest Substratum Rescue Archives and they are fully TWRP flashable.

Very useful
thanks @nicholaschum

One is for legacy devices which don't support substratum and other is for the ones that support OMS.
Example: LG stock rom is legacy
Resurrection remix is the other one
PS: They still work with the latest substratum if anybody is wondering.

Help with rescue
issue => https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g6/help/how-to-recover-moto-g6-play-user-data-t3850798
The "adb sideload "E:\MotoG6\platform-tools\SubstratumRescue.zip"
Total xfer: 1.00x" ==> Doesn't work. Says "Signature verification failed." and "Footer is wrong" "Installation aborted".
I can't use ADB shell, because I can not format to unlock bootloader.
PS; For cases like mine, Substratum should have a remote uninstall/Deactivation option. Something like sending an SMS or Whatsapp. With a user-generated code. If the user sends this code from another smartphone (vias SMS or WPP) the Substratum would start a script for complete deactivation. That would be very useful.
In my case all Android is working and Apps are running in Background. I can even use Whatsapp via the Web. That is, this concept is feasible for this case.
Any help?
Cheers.

I am also getting the same error of signature and footer.
But I am stuck at system booting.. it says something like com.android.service is not responding. The only option is there for format. I have stock Rom, Oreo 8.1, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 its not rooted and bootloader is locked.
Can anyone help !
Thanks in advance

Link is not working

These do not seem to work anymore and there isn't a zip in my substratum folder

[Completed] invalid OTA package missing scatter when trying to flash a zip file

Hi,
First of all, I am new to the android community and I hope that you will understand that I am writing as a noob.
I'm having an issue with my Chinese smartphone POMP W88A. It was a brand that was making smartphones, but it seems they have stopped producing phones. The phone is running on JB 4.2.2. It is running on MTK6589 processor. Kernel version is 3.4.5. Screen resolution is qHD (960x540). This phone seems like a Galaxy S4 clone. It has touchwiz installed, or I assume that it is touchwiz, even though it wont support the Accuweather S4 widget and other Samsung apps. What I was trying to do - I was going to install the Touchwiz launcher and the Accuweather widget from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2259228
It seems that it supports a large number of devices. However, when I rebooted into recovery and tryed to install the zips, I got an error message: Installation aborted. I googled a bit and found that some recoveries demand the zip files to be signed. I signed the zip files, rebooted again into recovery, and this time, the installation started, the progress bar started filling and suddenly it aborts the installation with this error message: "Invalid OTA package missing scatter". I tryed to google how to fix that problem, but I am unable to find a solution. There are some topics on this matter regarding the flashing of ROMs, but I just wanted to flash the launcher and the widget. I also found a topic saying that it might be because the Recovery demands Busybox to be installed, so I also installed Busybox, but the problem is still there. I also tried installing other recoveries via Mobileuncle Tools, but none of them worked, so I swithched back to the factory one, which is called Android system recovery 3e. Anyone have any clue how I can fix this? If there is a way to install zips without rebooting into recovery, I could try that, but I dont know if that is possible.
Here's the link for my phones ROM, maybe it could help you out to understand my issue:

Thanks in advance. I would appreciate anyone's help.

Hi and thank you for using XDA Assist
About your problem, Chinese copies are not the best choice....
The error which appear to you it's cause also for the fact that you need a custom recovery for it like TWRP or CWM.
If you are able to get root access on your phone you could simply decompress the flashable zip and then push to system the files to their respective folders.
Other ways i couldn't find.
But for futher assistance i suggest you to head over here: Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yeah, I know they are not very stable. I was wondering something: when I reboot into recovery, I dont have an option called Install zip from SD card, like many other recoveries I saw on Youtube have. I only have Apply update from SD Card, Apply update from Cache and Wipe partition data. Maybe that option "Apply update from SD card" that I was trying is ment for installation of ROMs and flashing updates. Im just guessing... So, how could I install CWM? I already checked the TWRP website, but ofc I couldn't find my device on their list. CWM, however, I don't know how it works. About pushing the apks into system/app - I already tried pushing various launchers into system/app and changing permissions, but none of them worked. Last one bricked my phone, so I reflashed the ROM via SP flash tool. Now its working smoothly, but on the other hand, I payed this phone pretty cheap, and I would love to customize it and learn something new about customizing

Device blocks apk installations

I recently bought a cheap candy bar phone (MobiWire Sakari), for nostalgic purposes mostly, and learnt it ran a simplified version of android 4.4.2.
It meant no developer mode, no playstore and no settings past personalisation (tapping build number in the 'about' section does nothing).
It has facebook lite installed and has the option to install WhatsApp. It does this by downloading a special version off the WhatsApp website and allowing you to install it. When you try download and install other apps, it comes up with an error saying it can't be installed (I've tried many).
I understand that a lot of apps won't work, being a 2.4" keypad phone, but there are apps available to make the keypad experience more enjoyable - as you currently have to tap the keys a few times for each letter (I did say I wanted nostalgia, but T9 would be nice). Not to mention, it would simply be great to have a nostalgic experience with an up-to-date OS (at a dirt cheap price).
Anyone have any idea of how to root the device, enable app installation (the 'install from unknown sources' option is not available in the settings), or extract some of the code from the working WhatsApp apk and insert it into other apks (appologies if it doesn't work like that, I'm a noob in the developer world).
As I said, I can't enable USB debugging for any ADB installations. I can get into the factory recovery mode and can access ADB update but this doesn't help me as ADB install can't work.
Thanks for reading and any help would be great.

Probably won't work, installing other apps requires having a proper "package installer" like other android devices that can install apps. By your description, installation of apps on that device doesn't work the same as for other android devices.
You can attempt to adb sideload, if the device has a sideload option in recovery.

It has some form of package installer as it installs Whatsapp when you first turn on the device. When you try install a different apk, it seems to start the package installer but stops when it doesn't recognise the apk file. I bought another device with a different build number, enabling me to enter developer mode and installed apps using this method: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76141643&postcount=23

I can enter stock recovery, however, adb sideload is only able to install update.zip files. Or is there a method of installing apk files as well through the "apply update from ADB" method? Or is there usually another option showing to be able to adb sideload an apk file? Here is someones post showing the stock recovery https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76105681&postcount=13
Thanks for your help.

I didn't say to use the name Sakari to search XDA, I meant for you to use it in Google searches.
You don't have a sideload method. I doubt you'll be able install apps. The facebook lite and Whatsapp that you installed are probably built just so it could be used on that device. You'd have to try modifying other apps in the same manner that these two were modified in order for them to work on that device.
All in all, WAY more trouble than its worth. The device probably wouldn't perform well with those apps installed, even if you "could" get them to install.

[HELP] Features Missing after unlocking bootloader

Well although I planned to unlock bootloader after a few months I decided to grab the opportunity when unlock page started working and with the ultimatum by Huawei about providing unlock codes, but ever since I unlocked and fixed multiple boot loops I noticed few apps and features are now missing such as
HiFi Huawei sounds in Settings is gone
Unable to change or apply themes
smart remote Control is now gone,
Phone no longer stay awake while looking at it
There might be more stuff missing which I haven't noticed
I mean it feels absurd I just unlocked bootloader why are these stuffs missing this makes no sense to me, all I did is installed twrp, installed magisk no modules nothing, in fact, my favorite mods are giving boot loops anyway but that aside I do need the above things back please help out a friend, anyone else faced this ?
I have a theory like Miui had a "region" option and apps changes according to regions set. So does something like this happens in EMUI as well, I don't remember exactly but I believe I set region/language as the UK while completing the setup, if so how can I change it back(PS: I live in India)
or its the side effect of root perhaps?
PHONE: HONOR VIEW 10

No idea what kind of issues you had, but none of those vanished after unlocking my bootloader.
I've been able to use themes just like before, the display stays on when I look at it and those Huawei sounds in settings are still there as well. No idea about the remote since I never used it anyway.
So idk what went wrong on your phone but it doesn't look like that's anything "normal"
Help please !

I just realized the firmware on firmware finder seems rather incomplete, update.app is just 300 MB or so, no way it contains full system.img
so am gonna have to take twrp backup b ready for 3gb download, anything else u want other than the system?
From LOS to Stock
Thats not a problem bro, have a 50mbps 250gb monthly plan in broadband. Wanted you to know that I am coming from LOS to stock as much as I know it would require only system.img. But if you think anything else would be required, then please upload that too, as I have only the stock recovery and nothing else.

1. Could you please elaborate the steps in detail, where to place system.img in twrp folder(In Internal or sd card)?
2. Also what is the version u have uploaded mate(8.0.0.140/8.0.0.151)?
3. Also can you upload ramdisk, kernel, stock recovery also?
4. Is there any way to get FULLOTA-MF for India as provided in other regions?
Thank you.
I flashed it bro but no network.
I think I need radio/modem files.
Could you please upload? I'm waiting.

3D creator is in my data partition which i did not backup

U need to place them directly in /system/app
Or /data/apps and give permission rw-r--r--
Or try signing the apk it should work I guess if libs are not there

Take your own backup first... Try installing only one partition at time... To be honest this EMUI is very new to me... Dont know y they made so many different partitions
Or maybe it's a kirin's thing... I should have just gone with Op5t like rest of the world... Its just chaos and confusion here

August Security Patch Rolling Out

[Global] Mi A2 Lite V11.0.10.0.QDLMIXM rolling out!

Wow. That's gotta be some kind of record for Xiaomi
Mine is only 13M though. Must be a tiny update.
Wow! First time ever that this Android One device is actually up to date security wise.
Yes, from July update only 13MB.
Maybe it was there before, but after updating I noticed a native screen recorder icon.
Updated: It is not native. I have a screen recorder app installed.
Direct share not yet available.

Does someone know how to install an OTA Update without using the System Update App? It always says Installation Problem. Installation failed.
I'm rooted with magisk, that's the reason i guess.
I found the 13mb Update as a zip file, but it's not flashable via twrp... Any Suggestions?

So you Flash the whole Rom (~1.2gb) and not just the Update?
I would like to find a way to Flash just the Update since your method is taking too long for me...

If you only have Magisk, the standard process should work for you.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/guide-install-magisk-proper-support-ota-t3836952
If it's not working and you have somehow modified some other partition, it will be written to the logcat.
adb logcat | grep update_engine
My Problem is, even with magisk 'uninstalled' the Update App from xiaomi still says 'Installation failed: Installation Problem'
That even happens with totally Stock rom, no root and no twrp.
I dont know why. But is there any other way to Update manually without flashing the whole Big Rom file? Just the Update file...
There must be a reason why there is an update file in zip Format which is 13mb Big.
Best regards
Alex

Alex, You don't have to flash the whole big rom file, but you do have to download it though. You can get it from here: https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/daisy/roms-global-stable/
You then have to extract the files that you need with payload_dumper which you get from here:

NB that is the Windows 64bit version so make sure that is the OS your pc is using.
You then have to find which partition it is that is causing the problem for which you have to use a1291762's advice:
Code:
adb logcat | grep update_engine
and read very carefully through the results because the offending entry will be difficult to spot amongst the dozens of others.
You then flash the partition mentioned in the logcat. For example if 'system' is mentioned in the logcat as having an incorrect hash (that is always the reason for the failures) you would have to extract 'system.img' with payload_dumper and run
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
Then try the update again. If it works you will also probably have to reinstall Magisk from scratch again as flashing system will probably remove it.
Yes it is complicated - far too complicated, but the simple measure you call for - just flash an update file - has, to the best of my knowledge never been possible, so there must be some reason why that is so, but I don't know what it is.
Incidentally, the reason I am able to respond to this question is that I had a torrid time yesterday trying to update my A2 lite on which I had not one, but 3 errors. aboot hash incorrect, system hash incorrect, and before any of that the normal Magisk uninstall told me it had no images to restore and so had to be uninstalled completely. It took me hours and it wasn't that much fun.

There must be a reason why there is an update file in zip Format which is 13mb Big.

The update is only 13M because it contains only changes. But for that to work, your partitions must be unmodified.
The larger update zip has complete partitions so it can work even if you have changes. You may be able to do the recovery update method with that file...
The even larger fastboot image has every partition.
thanks everyone for the help!
I did it as you said viking777 and it worked.
It's sad, that for an 13mb update this procedure is necessary, but thats how it is..
So thanks again everyone for the help

then boot patched.img and install magisk, less than 10 mins and no need to worries about uninstall magisk or any mod before

Stuck uploading APK to Lineage 18 ROM (read to the end)

PreambleI oft find in various forums that people are so filled with the milk of human kindness that they just can't wait to help, ( or may gain a few more badges~) ignoring everything but the heading.
And in doing so ask foolish questions.
So, please DO READ to the end.
UPDATE
Thanks to @ jwoegerbauer I now know I can't install the Lantern APK via recovery. I must use ADB which I have previously tried but failed.
Obviously, therefore I do not know what I am doing with ADB.
My tasks focus now is to install Lantern APK via ADB with the devices , tools and systems already mentioned. (below)
Unless someone, somewhere knows where I can find a Lantern ZIP file which I can flash. (seems I am good at that now at least~)
Please DO read everything below ladies and gents, my sense of humour and patience does have a limit~
Mobile Device DetailsSamsung note 3 originally 9006 Chinese ROM
Rooted via Odin to 9005
Upgraded to Lineage ROM 18
Uploaded pico Gapps
Uploaded Magisk v23
Desktop Machine
Asus P5BSE / Core2 Duo E4400 @ 2.00GHz / 4GB ram / 2TB storage / Linix; Zorin Core 15.3
Project in briefTo install Lantern. (getlantern.org)
Lantern is usually installed via Google play store.
Google is blocked in China.
Downloaded Lantern APK to upload to phone via recovery from SD card.
Recovery does not show the APK in the SD card.
Stuck.
Further info - useful?During one of my many attempts to install Lineage following a blog, I wiped the disk in error.
I also suspect I removed the backup of the original Samsung system as when I tried to reboot, TWRP mentioned there was no O/S.
Nothing I could do restored the original.
What was it Macbeth said about being in blood stepped so far?
On my final install of Lineage 18 I seem now to have their Recovery, not TWRP.
I am happy with that, seems no big deal for me, I was able to successfully install the new OS + Gapps. And it is one less APP to install
I also have Magisk installed, the device is in dev mode and - seemingly rooted. (although the App does not explicitly say so)
Using a borrowed SIM card I can connect to the China mobile network system.
I now have a fully functional, working , English language device with Lineage 18.
Brilliant!
My last task is to figure out how to get the Lantern App sorted.
I have downloaded the APK from their official site, several others as well as a supposedly zip file.
Saved to SD card, visible when viewed on Linux, invisible when card is installed in mobile.
I really do not know quite how to proceed from here.
If I have missed anything, sorry, please ask.
Huge thanks to RAIZ from this forum for getting me to this stage and the guys who made Lineage 18 so darn easy to install and seemingly impossible to mess up.
And boy oh boy, believe me, I have really tried over the past few months~!

What recovery are you using? Have you tried different recoveries?
What version of twrp are you running?
An APK will never get installed via Recovery.
You typically install an APK ( sideload method ) by means of ADB.
Code:
adb devices
adb install <FULL-PATHNAME-OF-APK-ON-PC-HERE>
Yeah you could use adb sideload in twrp.

Hehe, I can verify your first statement!
Do you have a link you can direct me to please as to how to do it via ADB in Lineage recovery as I did try that (side loading) via TWRP and it threw back an error. I can't recall but I think it was permissions or similar?
Sorry, I forgot to mention that in my post.
Thx for your constructive feedback - much appreciated.

Ohhhhh Kayyyyyy - coping.
Just.
You have added code?
Before I go ahead and destroy New York, I use that where?
How?
and errr... why?
I am guessing in Terminal, but I am not really sure what I am trying to achieve here.
Sorry, not arguing or being difficult, I just find it helps me if I know what EXPECTED outcomes are. Just in case it isn't what I should expect. :>(
Thx for your patience.

I think the understandable answer is given here:
adb install - Android ADB Shell Commands Manual
adbshell.com
Of course it's required ADB got installed on Windows computer if not done yet: if not then you may use the installer script linked to in my signature.

Please help me out- what is protocol.
Do I keep updating my progress - or lack of- here, in this dialogue, or should I continue to update my original post?
Which one best communicates to everyone where I am at?

Did it work after adding the file directory?
You are right.
I am not sure how this forum works, so it was more of a post to jwoegerbauer.
Anyway, even opening the folder with terminal and using adb install lantern-installer failed with a CLOSE error message. I guess that meant close as in shut not closes as in almost!
I can, using Lineageos recovery access ADP on my phone with the instruction: " now send the package you want to apply to the device with "adb sideload <filename>"
However that triggers a screed of data in terminal which, frankly, is well beyond my rudimentary level of comprehension.
I have tried following 3 other on line tuts which suggest using ADB on my computer. All goes well until the instruction: <adb devices> which returns:
$ adb devices
List of devices attached
In other words, computer can't find phone!
I initially tried it in DOWLOAD mode, with the usual "download in progress, do not disconnect source."
Then reading the tuts again, none mentioned download mode so I tried with just the device attached to the machine in normal phone usage mode. Checked that SAMSUNG was visible and I could open the folders but again failed. ( sorry I forget what that error message was)
So far the most positive has been the direct ADB via Lineageos, but I have no idea where to go from there.
It is knocking on 37* here, too hot to think so I am taking a break.
Thx for your latest efforts.
Cheers
P
OK Finally!
[email protected]:~$ adb devices
List of devices attached
438f904d device
[email protected]:~$ adb install /home/bicyu/Sam-upgrade/lantern-installer/lantern-installer.apk
Performing Streamed Install
Success
[email protected]:~$
I have read so many posts all end with the <adb devices> and on each one I see zilch.
So, for anyone else in this boat, here is my solution.
In developer OPTIONS on your LINEAGEos device scroll down to
DEFAULT USB CONFIGURATIONVery likely it is set to FILE TRANSFER - mine was.
Change it to USB TETHERING
Then enter < adb devices> in terminal.
You should then see your Android listed.
Proceed with: adb install <FULL-PATHNAME-OF-APK-ON-PC-HERE>
You should see a SUCCESS flag!
NOTES: This works in Lineageos ROM on Linux, ( Ubuntu / Zorin O/S)
I dunno about others.
You need to have dev options activated.
Change the USB setting back when done, otherwise it tends to mess up your Internet! (did mine anyway!)
This is the best background tut to ADB I found.
He talks about a USB3 bug which, apparently, creates the same problem - maybe THAT is your issue? It was that article which put me on the USB CONFIG train.
Hope this helps someone.
A REALLY HUGE thank you to jwoegerbauer for putting me
on the right track - wrong train, - but right track.
Cheers mate!
Glad to hear you solved it.
Only to have mentioned it, there is a workaround - as always because many ways leads to Rome:
Copy the APK of interest onto MicroSD-card, plug the card into phone, afterwards using any File Manager application that is installed on phone, navigate to the location on MicroSD where the APK file is located and finally double-click on the APK file: this will install the APK.
Yep! Well good luck

That was where I began 2+ weeks back, downloading to SD card and trying to find a way inside the phone to do it. Never thought of File Manager! Duh~
Take care buddy, enjoy your weekend, wherever you are.
