Thinking of get the U11 6gb therefore, hand my S8+ over my wife but... - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, currently I have S8+ which have me some how very happy. I love so much the big screen and how it looks. Performance is not bad but not the best, sometimes is laggy. I am thinking of changing my S8 plus for the UT11 6Gb but a few questions get me concern. Hope you can help me:
Is the U11 screen big enough? I mean of course is not as the S8+ but at least can you feel is a very good size? I have used the note 4 which love the size of the screen. Then I got the S6 which screen is too small and hate it because of it and now the S8+.
Secondly, I am a Samsung boy since forever but the last two years I want to try either HTC, One, or Google. So far HTC U11 seems my best option. What are the drawbacks of HTC in general?
Lastly, Is the battery good enough to last 1 completely day, for instance, from 10 am to 23 pm?. I know it depends on many factors, but imagine you are traveling and just use the camera and sometimes the gps.
Thanks in advanced

I have both phones. S8+ has the better screen though narrower. U11 is a tad shorter but wider and feels bulkier.
I returned the original u11 because believe it or not, the phone began lagging and I do have a lot of apps though no gaming or Facebook.
I am hoping the 6gb version corrects that.
Overall battery life is far better on S8+.

Can you show any screenshots of your best battery life on the Samsung S8+?

i typically don't hold on to screenshots or worry about battery life once I am comfortable with the phone and it has settled down once all apps are loaded and have been using for a few days. I'l try to remember to begin a new cycle tonight when I go to re-charge. I don't have a clean count because I did pop it on Fast charger for a few minutes twice today and I typically only charge to 85%.

I like the wider screen of the U11. I don't have an S8+ but had only tried in Samsung stores. This thing is really fast. Battery lasts me from 6PM to about 10AM next day with about 10% left. That's with all day data on.

I went from the s8+ to the oneplus 5 to the U11. The HTC feels very dated. The UI and launcher feel like 2014. The screen is more than adequate. The light sensor is a bit off I find that the screen is often the too dark or too light. When it comes to lag on this phone I get 0. The one thing that does bug me sometimes is missing haptic feedbacks on the keyboard. The best thing about this phone is definitely the camera. I actually use the Google camera though as the camera app on this phone is really meh. To be honest I can't say for sure drop the s8 for this phone as I'm only keeping it until the note 8 comes out. But is it at least as good as the s8+? It sure is. As far as smoothness goes it is much better. Hope this helps.

Yes of course there is. But when you type quick it skips sometimes. Like after every 30 taps or so you get one blank one. That still registers though.

I find flesky is the best keyboard on the market if you don't use predictions(can be disabled)
swiftkey if you use them
but touchpal is one of the worst

First impressions on Galaxy S6 Edge - Sound Off

I got mine yesterday 4/8/15 - Im on Sprint and when I turned it on and did self activation I got a black screen... Eventually had to factory reset and go to sprint and get them to re activate it. Also Ive noticed it has been prettty laggy stuttering here and there. Google Keyboard doesn't fix it. Its not thaaat laggy but its enough to notice. My Sprint GS6 edge Black 64gb DID INFACT come with the hair line scratches people are reporting. battery life has been decently good.
Battery:
Full Day 1 GS6 Edge: April 9th 2015
Screen On time: 3hrs 50 min
7AM-1:04PM
Usage - Everything, auto brightness... All edge features on. half mobile data half wifi, NO BATTERY SAVER
Ive been getting about 8 or 9 hours on heavy usage mostly wifi though. black 32gb no scratches or other issues. No lag. Feels and looks great. Sound isnt as bad as people say. But i came from an s4. I do notice it seems warm when charging with the screen off lol. But maybe thats just the fast charger at work. The usb is snug though going in and kind of worries ya as yo how itll hold up. Data was way snappier and received lte in areas i previously couldn't.
Got mine on the 8th as well. No issues with lag, but my phone does have the small cosmetic scratches in the screen. Any idea if Sprint would do an exchange because of it? Battery has been just ok so far. Wasn't able to make it through the day on light usage without having to throw it on the charger before the end of night. Barely had 2 hours of screen time. Fingerprint scanner works like 75% of the time. Anyone have any tips on how to get the scanner to work more accurately? The phone is absolutely beautiful though.
Sprint shud allow replacements

I went in the Sprint store and they were shocked that I had the phone. First they told me they couldn't do anything because I wasn't supposed to have it... Then after they realized Pre Orders shipped early they just told me to call customer service to request a replacement.
Thats messed up because Sprint customer service told me to go into a store. After all I've been through with them lately i have come to the conclusion that they have absolutely no idea what's going on most of the time.

I use my right thumb and use the center of it with the top of the thumb to the left and bottom on the right. Like \ kind of ha. 99% of the time works. Only thing bugs me after using it is coming from the s4 lack of the menu button :/
Picked it up on launch day
Got the device (white, 64gig) around noon today (eastern), haven't been able to put it down. Screen is amazing, apps download and install from the Google Store in record time (coming from an N5) via wifi or Sprint Spark, speaking of Spark...I am getting coverage in more areas than I was before. Camera is by far the best experience I have had with Android and I am an original G1 owner, wow...we have come so far. Point and shoot is by far a much more fluid and pleasant experience. almost 9 gigs are taken up by system memory. Battery life and speed of charging has been a good experience thus far. Did i mention the screen? :good:
Got my white 32 gb edge yesterday from Best Buy. It looks great and no scratches seen
I did the update and everything seems to be working fine. The battery is great so far but I did notice some lag when something is downloading in the background a bit but nothing too bad. The brightness is being a bit annoying. The softkeys are too bright at night unless battery saver is turned on. The manual brightness is too bright and auto is too dim. Coming from the adaptive brightness from stock lolipop, its a bit disappointing. I love this phone however. The curved screen is fantastic, especially with gallery pictures. Also its ridiculously sharp. Battery is great so far and fast charging is great.
Called customer service...
I called in and they told me to take it to a repair center... They seem very uneducated on the issue. All they have to do is search it up, its very common now and annoying.

Screen Brightness Issue
Also, I compared my screen with two other peoples screens on max brightness and mine is a little less bright then theirs and is more on the warmer side... Disappointing...

Mine takes up 6.7 something on system memeory. Anyone else? Just curious. On a 32gb black
I love my S6 Edge. Wish I could have gotten it in green though and with the news of demand outpacing supply and curved glass production problems I don't ever believe I will ever be able to get it into emergald green. There is already a shortage of the Edge devices which I why I am glad I pre-ordered.
The only other thing is Sprints network. My nexus 6 is on Cricket and I wish I would have ordered it on AT&T and kept my Note 4 on Sprint, or moved my Nexus 6 to Sprint. Hopefully they will roll Spark out here soon and that will address the capacity issues that seem to plague Louisiana.
It's an amazing phone. I love it.
The S6E is my first metal & glass phone and I'm loving it so far. The phone looks great in Gold Platinum and it's really classy & sleek looking.
The performance is great, operation smooth, great feel in hand & easy to use one-handed, and the camera is fabulous.
I'm not bothered by a lack of microSD & removable battery as I thought I would be (probably the Nexus 5 got me used to that).
This is definitely the best phone in the world for me right now.

Eh....
It is up to you. Given how many Edges are floating around with scratched screens it really is a gamble. I have not really heard of any issues with the S6 but there are reports on all carriers of scratched S6E devices. And like any other carrier, Sprint isn't going to keep opening boxes for you, even if they do have them in stock. You could get one where the screen has the scratches on the screen, or in/under the screen. I guess you have to decide if you really could live with that if you do get a defective unit. Some people say they can live with it. Others cannot.

i could probably live with that. my main concern is even with a case and i drop the edge, the curved part of the glass is exposed to potentially get more damage. does it feel like ur gonna drop it at all when u use it?
Not a very good first impression for me since screen rotation was broken out of the box and Samsung support has no clue about whether it's going to be a software fix or not.
I'm very happy with my edge. I would never chage it with a normal one. It is much more beautiful. This is my opinion. And my screen is not scratch and i have very good batery life: 24h batery with 5h SOT or 48h with 2h 30 min SOT.

Screen Scratches and Excessive Lag!

Hi, So I received my Sprint GS6 Edge 64gb on 4/8/15 and immediately I noticed all other hairline scratches some one have been getting. Does anyone know how long it would take to replace the phone or even if its worth replacing considering all the backorder and that people haven't even gotten the phone yet? Also, ever since I setup the device, I have lag here and there. The phone is ultra fast but still stutters MORE than my Nexus 5... I can get tasks done faster on my Nexus just because it doesn't have all these hickups here and there. Anyone notice this or experiencing this? Does anyone know the solution? I already got a Sprint OTA of 100 and something MBs, that didn't do anything.
I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I didn't have any scratches on my 64gb edge. Hopefully they won't make you go through a long process to get a replacement.
I haven't noticed any lag on mine yet. Everything seems to flow do smoothly. I took the same update as well and haven't noticed any lag before or after. I should also mention that I'm not a huge TW Launcher fan either, so I have been using Apex Launcher instead, just my Launcher of choice, everyone has their favorites.
I wish Sammy would've went with a little bigger battery. I can get a full day with light usage, but heavy use seems to drag it down pretty fast. Front facing speakers like I have on my m8 would've been a nice touch as well, but we can't have everything.
Still overall, I am in love with the device. The phone is just stunning to look at. Best of luck to you on getting your replacement promptly.

My front screen was fine but I had scratches all over the back so I did a sprint chat on the exchange/return page and they shipped it the same day so it's worth a shot. You could try in store but I didn't want to be one of those customers to complain as the scratches are extremely hard to see on the back unless it's under sunlight and I don't know how they handle in store policy exchange/defects but it's worth a shot both ways.
As far as lag, it was extremely lag/hot the first few minutes installing and getting it setup but so far it's pretty fast to me. Maybe depends on your apps but I believe there is another OTA coming out and obviously this isn't 5.1 so I wouldn't judge too early as the phone needs to work the kinks out.

I agree with the battery, I believe it's very efficient as far as idle goes but using my phone all day long it will drain away. The speakers are a con as the bottom just seems to not be very direct compared to say rear speakers as it can at least blast back from your hand but holding the phone sideways your hand tends to block the sound. But overall I still love the phone and just the looks, glass and premium feel I wouldn't go back to my photon Q lol Now if they made a Epic V2 I'd be all over that phone as i just can't find a proper way to hold the phone so a keyboard would have been a perfect.
I picked up my edge from bestbuy yesterday. The first one had spiderweb scratches all over it so they have me another one. The second one was pristine. As far as lag goes I haven't really experienced any. It's to soon for me to comment on battery life, once I have a couple charge cycles I will report back. Very happy with my purchase.
Loving the phone so far. The only lag i experience is scrolling through widgets on the homescreen like the fenix twitter widget. I think its a touchwiz thing because i installed google now launcher and the widget scrolls smooth.

Coming from G3, almost didn't go to to LG because of it. This thing is a whole different world of awesome. Things that overheated and throttled my G3 don't even warm this thing up, and best part, no data issues going from WiFi to mobile!!! Love the second screen too. Now when I'm navigating and streaming Bluetooth at the same time, I can change tracks without leaving nav app, notifications don't interrupt games/videos...Extremely happy so far!

Need to point out that realistically it is only a 5 inch screen.
With controls and second screen. You effectively have only a 5 inch screen with a whole lot of bulk. Granted the internals are great. Although it is not in any way a 5.7 inch screen. Great phone, but let down on such a massive phone with effectively no more screen area than a S4.
Not to mention. NO blinking notification and no temperature or humidity sensors. Infered is marginal at best.

Umm, no, it's not a 5" screen. The main screen is 5.7" minus how much space the buttons at the bottom take up, which is like any other phone not made my Samsung.
The second screen is a completely independent 2.1" screen. Please don't spread misinformation.
And they didn't put a led light because that is what the second screen is partly for. And if you want all those sensors, get a Samsung.
Sounds like you need to do more research before you buy a $600+ smartphone only to be disappointed for you own lack of research.

Actually, if you go get yourself a tape measure, the 5.7 doesn't include the second screen... And if you're really tech savvy, you can hide the navigation bar when you aren't using it... So on both of those counts, you are wrong... Also, all your notifications appear on the second screen, which to me is more convenient than a blinking light, since I don't even need to open my phone to check my notifications. And also, the infrared controls my stuff from anywhere in the living room, which works fine for me... Considering Samsung no longer has this option, it's a plus. Other than that, sorry to ruin your phone bash, have a super day.

This phone made me love it. My G3 started getting the BSOD and honestly I'd planned switch to a Samsung S7 Edge in March, or whenever it is released. Went to the store to try to get a used G4 just to hold me off until then but they didn't have any. Walked out with the V10. Unlocked bootloader, flashed TWRP and SU and have been loving it ever since. I'm not really sure why because aside from the standard faster processor, gig more memory and slightly larger screen, it wasn't that much different from my G3 but I've really grown to like this thing. Second screen is the phone's first bullet point but it's kind of gimmicky and I don't really have a use for it, but besides that stuff just seems to work better on the V10. It doesn't have Bluetooth connection issues like my G3 did, phone doesn't heat a small room under heavy use, and I'm not clearing apps to free up 200mb more memory all day. Call quality is great, quick charge is awesome, and the 5.7" screen is really, really, really nice. A louder and clearer speaker is the only thing the G3 did better but the V10's will do. So I've warmed up to my step child and really not thinking about the S6/S7 at the moment.

I agree with you. I come from the nexus 6 and so far I love this phone but the lack of custom Rom and development is kind of ?.
Bought mine during launch week, and was disappointed it had major issues: second-screen bleed was bad, and the speaker sounded really distorted. Then a month later the wireless charging chip died.
T-Mobile replaced it with a brand new unit manufactured in late December and it is absolutely perfect. No bleed at all, speaker is crystal-clear. Loving it, especially the camera!
Started out with Lg G2 d800,loved that phone sold it and got lg g3 D850 awesome phone.. Finally decided to get the v10,its very smooth, fast, beautiful display, whenever i take pictures my friends are stunted by how beautiful and rich the photos come out. Manual controls on camera and video, dual front face camera, removable battery , sdcard support, slick and premium design over kill. This is by far the best device i have ever owned since day one 'htc touch pro2' ... Im really impressed with this phone...
I upgraded from a Nexus 6. My first experience with LG (Android wise) was with the G2 and the Flex. So going to the V10 was easy. My only caveat is the fact that I moved back to 5.1.1 when I've been on 6.0.1 for a bit. Can't wait for some decent roms to truly use this phones full potential.
I almost gave up on androind OS after two generations of Samsung Galaxy devices, Note 3 and until today Note 4. The update from Kitkat ruined the Note 4 experience completely for me, if anything left me frustrated. Ive reached an age whereby I just want something to do as it says on the box, typing on the Note 4 became a nightmare for me, tiny space bar mistyping all the time. Wifes Iphone 6plus was appealing but thought Id try another brand of Droid. Earlier today walked out of the T Mobile store with a new V10.

Note 5 vs V10

I'm looking to switch outta the note 5. Does any one know if the LG v10 is comparable?

I'm not sure if I want a phone with IPS screen.
I've had both. I jumped to the v10, and was back to the note 5 within a month.
The V10 is good, but not quite there yet on performance and bugs.
The camera is excellent though. I liked that better than the note.
Overall, it wasn't a bad phone for me. My wife still has hers and likes it.
It is a different experience for sure

How come?
IPS screens aren't bad at all. Colours are pretty on point too especially compared to Samsung and their over saturation of colours.

AMOLED and dark theme save battery. I'm used to the AMOLED screen but that's just me. I don't like how pixels are lid up on a black background. The Moto 360 has the IPS screen and it's pretty annoying to look at at night with an always on watchface.

Ahh okay. I see a lot of people complain about that on the IPS devices. I didn't mind the ones I've owned in the past. I will say that I do love the Amoled screens but I just don't see the hype of the superBlacks that people rave about, though I do love my screen not Cyclops'in me at night though. Lol.

Same here...its a nice concept but v10 has worse battery life than note 5 and the second screen has weird shadowing issues that I could not stand ...not really a second screen...software splits them up...when you load cyanogen on it is obvious and I hated it.... hope this helps..

That sounds awful. I never get the point of the second screen in the V10.

Yeah pretty much just a dedicated recent bar or edge app bar...pretty gimmicky....note 5 is such a better device overall...I don't know why every phone doesn't have front facing speakers tho...the only thing I would change really...but viper does a very nice job improving default speaker performance.
I usually don't even need to turn it up past halfway!

Seems to have a lot to do with how people use their phones. I'm personally a heavy reader, and there's something about Kindle with the black background setting and an AMOLED display. The screen just sort of disappears when you read in the dark, and all you see are the letters floating in your hand.
After three Samsungs, I switched to a Nexus 5 a couple years ago and haaaated the always-glowing LCD. Picked up a Note 4, breathed a sigh of relief. Went through the usual annual "Samsung sucks, I'm never buying another Samsung ever again!" tantrum after that and tried an iPhone 6 just to "gain some perspective". Haaaated the always-glowing LCD yet again (and so much more--you can't answer incoming VOIP app calls from the lock screen? What??), and went right back to Samsung with this Note 5.
So I've basically learned two things about myself: 1) I need zero-glow-blacks and 2) whining about Samsung has never changed the fact that they're the only brand I haven't thoroughly hated owning.
I agree. Samsung is keeping the best AMOLED screen for their flagships. The 6P's AMOLED screen is great but you can clearly tell it's not on the same level.

3aXL vs OP7pro? 3A ftw

I was going to get the OP7 pro but decided I'd try the Pixel. The price is great, especially with Best buy's 100.00 gift card they give you. 379.00 essentially. Only been 24 hours but so far it's been smooth and no hiccups. I was concerned about only 4gb of ram but haven't ran into any problems. not a huge multitasker and the games I play are minimal and simple. I'm usually on social media, text, email, and phone calls. I may still bite the bullet on the OP7 pro but I'll wait a while and see reviews and hopefully TMobile will have some demo units. That price and curved screen are making me 2nd guess that decision though. Coming from just having a 6T, I don't notice that I'm using an inferior processor and less ram. At least So far I don't.
This phone is a very good example of commodification, it's coming and I don't see anything that can stop it over the longer term. They fought this tooth and nail with PCs and they held on for quite a while but failed. I think the same will happen here. I was a hardcore phone guy, bought a new one every six months, sometimes more often than that. Always the best because the best was better, I'm talking about the kind of better that made your life a little easier every day. That's largely gone now. I traded my 3 XL for the 6T which came out a week after. I was in the Tmo store comparing them side to side and I simply could not come up with a reason why I should keep the 1k phone over the 6T which was just over half it's price. Sure the XL was better in some respects but it was also worse in some ways. Now here I am with an aXL and I don't see this trend changing.
This is just me, you may see it differently. The 7 Pro will be excellent. I'm looking at it myself but I have the feeling that I've gotten off the flagship treadmill and I'm not sure I want to get back on until something really new like foldables (that don't break before they can be released) are out there.
I agree word by word with you guys.
Oh my, that 7 looks pretty darn spiffy. Lust factor going through the roof... Down boy! DOWN!
I've had nearly every one plus device from the beginning including a 6 most recently and was planning on getting a 7 pro. But I thought about the things they improved: those were not the things that annoyed by about the 1+6. The 3a is a more well rounded phone with incredible software and I'm really enjoying the one I just picked up. Really impressed with the CPU, no studders or lag at all, it's just as fast as my OnePlus 6.
Huh, I don't see that. My 6T should be no better or worse than your 6 but when I hold them side to side and fiddle them it's no question faster. Thankfully if I'm just screwing around with this one by itself it feels fluid and satisfying for the most part, I do get some redraws and there is some hitching up at times doing things like opening the main menu but for all that it's not enough to trigger any dissatisfaction. I've had 3 OnePlus devices, like the Pixel in use they're better than they are on paper.

App load time is definitely shorter on the OnePlus and it holds way more apps in ram. I really meant that if using the pixel on its own (not side by side), it's not noticeably shower than the OP6. Really digging the software on the pixel, the built in speakers, and the haptic motor at the moment. Missing the flashlight gesture and double tap to wake
I thought 3a XL had double tap to wake, isn't it so?

Yes it does, it works for me, I do have always on display, not sure if this is required to work though. Double tap works great for me.

The screen has to be on in some way for double tap to wake to work. Either ambient display or always on display. If your screen is totally off, double tap to wake doesn't work.

I assumed that, that is why I mentioned that I have AOD active, I always use AOD on devices that have that option and having DTW is a plus. On a different note, Google should add a way of turning off AOD at night, like most other manufactures do, I put a piece of paper on top of the proximity sensor to turn off AOD at night to achieve this xD

There's a setting within the Ambient Display to turn in DT2W. It seems to be independent of Ambient Display. For example, I have that box checked, but not AOD, and I can double tap to bring up Ambient Display. I can then double tap again to bring up the normal lock screen. So screen can be off as long as that box is checked.

You're right, it's "double tap to check phone". Good call!
So far, for a person who like higher end phones, this one here (considered a budget) phone is the best IMOP. Sure it lacks a few things. One it only has a screen resolution of 1080, as compare to other phones with higher resolutions.. But I asked my self, did I ever utilize those other screen resolutions? Answer No. So that is not a issue for me at all.. Next, Screen display this one has OLED compared to AMOLED, does it affect how I use the phone? Answer NO. This phone on Sprint, came with absolutely no bloat of any kind, which is a big plus for me. Every time I bought a phone, first thing I had to do was remove all that bloat, as I can't stand software on my phone, that I do not use but takes away to much resources.
The camera is excellent, picture are crisp and nice.. No lag in the shutter. When you hit that button, it takes the picture instantly like it should.. I also like the idea of have sound coming from the speaker that you have up against you head, during phone calls, and from the bottom speakers as well. This makes for very good sound.. My wife and daughter already complained it was waaaay to loud LOL. Yes it has less ram, and a slower cpu, but it is butter smooth and very responsive IMOP compared to the G7 ThinQ I still own, and it only cost less than $500.. This is what a phone should cost.
Now the G7 I believe was around $800 had it for about 6 months.. Sprint asked if I was going to trade it in. I asked how much? They said $68 dollars, are you freaking kidding me.. Heck I will get much, much more when I sell it on line and this phone is in mind condition... This is why it is a scam to sell these phone for such high margins, and yet in the end they depreciate I thing worse than a dam computer does..
To each their own - I got the 3a XL to hold me over and start my Verizon account before ordering the OP7 Pro...I'm having pretty long load times, and some apps themselves are just lagging quite a bit. Maybe I got a bad one, but performance wise, I haven't been impressed so far. UI wise, I love the Pixel stuff...though I wish their launcher had a damn import option. Either way, I'll probably keep it as a holdover/backup phone, but I can't wait until the OP gets here on Tuesday. That being said, for $379 I can't complain that much (I do think that's where these devices should sit price wise though). They should make them 299-379 permanently and they would sell insanely well. Still, the camera is amazing as always. Wonder what the Pixel 4 will bring to the table?

I just put my phone down with the screen side down. Of course I am using a glass protector and a case that has a small lip, so the actual screen doesn't contact my table.
I gave my op6 to my wife and got this pixel 3a xl . I've been using it for 3 months now and I'm big time ready to get back to OnePlus. Great camera on the pixel but thats about it. Under powered , not enough ram , and now with the update 10 4g problem I'm over this pixel.
I own both phones..it's really hard to compare these 2 phone models as there so much different. Pixel- I have owned both 1st and 2nd generation pixels prior to my 3a xl. I love the fast software updates and smooth ui even with only 4 gbs of RAM. My OnePlus 7 pro is fast.... really fast and that 90hz screen refresh rate is amazing. I Still really miss my Razer 2 with 120 hz refresh rate minus how boxy it was but all and all this thing is crazy fast. Last thing I might mention is it's heavy and kind of akward to hold not to mention the headache of trying to protect that curved screen though it does look beautiful.
Honestly I'm waiting until wireless charging and 5g are standard before I upgrade my phones again and with the Google updates every month for the next 2 years I think I'll keep my pixel XL 3a as a backup phone with an amazing camera, heck I got it for $350 so why not. My OnePlus 7 pro cost $650 just to compare prices. Hope this helps some people out. Don't hesitate to ask me anything since I own both currently.

I'm running with the same two phones, my OnePlus being my main personal device and my pixel being my business device. Both are great, and occasionally, I switch my sim cards back and forth. But for my apps and games, the OnePlus is, undoubtedly, the superior when it comes to performance. But man, those photos from the Pixel and screen calling are two things I just can't give up! In all honesty, both phones are fantastic and I think anyone who opts in for a Samsung or iPhone are missing out!
