Hello fellows
Could you tell me why most of s8 plus users don't activate bixby ?
Is really because the languages not exist or to preserve private life ?
Thx a lot

Because Google Assistant exists and is better. Plus I guess better battery life with one less service running in the background

If you read this long article about
Bixby , failures to deliver a good or promising
service , you can understand why i am
not interested in Bixby( in general.)
Only maybe, the voice wake up from sleep function.
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/201...t-feels-several-years-behind-the-competition/
Because I've been using Google and Google Assistant for so long I don't really need anything else. Bixby hasn't fulfilled all their promises and is a battery drain.
Because I don't need an assistant app (Google's included) full stop.
The button on the side is much more useful to me as recent apps shortcut.
I really didn't have a problem with Bixby until the last update. I never used it and had no interest in using it, but it only bothered me when I'd accidentally hit the Bixby button and the stupid app would pop up. But, after the last update and getting a notification window saying that Bixby only works in Easy Mode and asking if I wanted to enable it I decided that it needed to go. I'll be damned if I'm willing to cripple my display and ability to customize my screen for an app that I never really wanted anyway and that doesn't add any functionality that Google Assistant doesn't already have.
I hate bixby and your button, thanks god for BKdisabler.
Bixby won't add any value or benefit to my phone usage. I've found the voice recognition to be poor and I honestly will never use features like: Open facebook and post etc, because once again, voice recognition is poor. Google Assistant already meets my needs, so I might as well disable Bixby so it's not taking up my battery.

I used BK disabled to fully disable bixby but now remapping apps don't work with the button. Is yours able to be remapped?
Because I don't want some useless piece of software listening to me and monitoring everything I do? Voice activation is nothing but a gimmick. I have never and will never find a use for it. Maybe if I was a quadriplegic I might use voice activation. I got the S8+ 3 days ago because my S4 and LG G4 were both broken. I only got it because it was available on my network and the Oneplus 5 was not. Honestly, if I had realized this Bixby **** existed and was so deeply embedded into the S8 before buying it, I probably would have cancelled my contract and moved to a different carrier for the Oneplus 5. The amount of bloatware on the S8 is horrifying.

I use bxActions app.
The dev of app Jawo mo says on his G+
page that you should only disable Bixby Home
and not the other Bixby related apps
He states that he need them to work smoothly.
I used Package Disabler and only disabled
Bixby Home.
bxActions is now really smooth and fast.
No lag no stuttering.

I just disabled everything Bixby in Titanium Backup and then remapped the button myself. Much faster than having some app in the background listening for you to press the button. I just need to figure out what the code is for long press on Bixby button, as at the moment long press brings up the Google Assistant (which I don't want).

As stated above if you use bxActions

bxActions should work really
smoothly and fast.!
No sign of Bixby trying to open.
I use one press for " back"

All i can say is "What a pleasure,"
Fast and smooth.!
Double press i cannot get to work
.. think its the bxActions.

Ahh fair enough. That makes sense. I didn't like the idea of having to install the framework for BK Package Disabler and give it administrative permissions on my device. I am very fussy these days when it comes to what I do and don't agree to lol. That was pretty much what ultimately pushed me into getting root and Titanium Backup. Also, I was able to remove the Bixby Vision icons from the Gallery and Camera apps which was a massive relief. I still miss my G4 though and I am a bit bummed out that the 64GB S8+ only has 3.4GB of ram...

Because it is junk. It is slow to launch. It activates itself without my command. Doesn't often understand what I want to do because it is very strict in "how you say something". The bixby "home screen" the copy cat of Google now is of limited use: Gathers information from only a few sources and mainly from Samsung apps that I don't use because they are junk like Samsung health. No integration for a lot of Google apps. Bixby is again this proprietary BS from Samsung to make us dependent on their badly designed apps. Do you remember S Voice and all the other bloat?

Title says it all. What root required apps were you dying to use on your S6 and now you can? I'll try and keep up with the thread and make a master list. So far:
Titanium Backup
Flashfire
CF.Lumen
AdAway, Ad Free
Root Explorer, ES File Explorer
Secure Settings/Tasker
3C Toolbox
BetterBatteryStats
Emoji Switcher
KingMaster/User
Viper4Android
LMT
Greenify
Xposed (not working on Samsung LP devices yet.) with Wanam.
SQLite Editor
Samba Filesharing
CSC Feature Expert
App Ops
Right now, I just have Titanium Backup and CF.Lumen.
Any clue if there's an app similar to Wanam to make some visual changes? My first step after rooting is usually cleaning up the status bar a little, but that seems difficult right now until Xposed works on Lollipop TW (if we ever see that day).
AdAway (changes host file to block ads, download off FDroid because it was removed from the play store)
CF.Lumen (like flux but changes the color temperature of your phone at night)
Emoji Switcher (change Samsungs ugly emojis to kitkat/lollipop/iOS)
TiBu (backup and freeze apps)
Root Explore (help me do lots thing~)
KingMaster and KingUser (help me manage root and RAM, which developed by us ~lol~, we are prepare to release them on XDA)
ADB Program (essential thing of developers~):cyclops:
adaway/thread
Viper4Android!!!!
Adblock plus
Tibu
Root Explorer
Tasker
Emoji switcher
Now we just need xposed and I'll be happy
Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I'd love to be able to add all apps to pop up view and split screen. Anyone have word on that?

ooo emoji switcher. thanks for that. i was looking for a way to switch out Samsung's emojis.
immediately after root, i installed greenify, titanium backup, betterbatterystats, viper4android, adaway, and LMT.
i would like xposed too but apparently it doesn't work on samsung phones with lollipop. lame.

i had the same issue at first too. turns out it was because i installed the 2.4 version. after doing some googling and couldn't find any answers, i decided to just install the 2.5 beta1 version and now it works perfectly. you can get it at the LMT thread here.

I'm writing this guide to help V20 users get the most out of their new phone immediately. I'll update the OP and welcome replies with other tips or tricks that I'll be happy to include as well.
1) Change the theme
This is a pretty easy one and changes the stock LG white setup to what I think is a better black setup. Perhaps they'll have more options soon. It looks more "tech" and if you're reading this on XDA I presume this is more of your flavor as well.
Goto Settings> Display> Theme> Choose Black Bold
2) Enable Ok Google detection even when display is off
Why? Alternate way to wake, unlock, and launch apps even when phone display is off. I find this much more handy than even using the fingerprint sensor
Goto the Google app>Open menu (upper left)>Settings>Voice>"Ok Google" detection>Always on>Trusted voice. Make sure you train the "Ok Google' Voice model
3) Add more fingerprints to unlock and security
Why? You'll find out when you switch hands (to film a video of the device perhaps) and can't unlock your phone with the pointer finger of your other hand.
Settings>General>(Privacy)Fingerprints & Security>(General)Fingerprints>Unlock(Ok)>+ Add fingerprint
4) Camera enhancements
The camera app defaults to a 12 MP pic vs. taking advantage of the full 16 MP it has. Let's change that
Open the settings(the gear icon)>Photo size>4:3(16MP)
While your in there I'd also change the HDR setting
Open the settings(the gear icon)>(General) HDR>Auto

I went into 'Settings' and disabled everything I could there except what I only need. Have had zero issues after and incredible battery life.
Also, to save mobile data usage I disabled background data on everything but Gmail. After 6GB my device slows you see. Let me find out where that setting is for you.
Okay, go into 'Networks' 'Mobile Data' , click on the app and restrict anything you don't need to keep updated when it's not running like Gmail. Only two I have are Gmail and Swype so Swype saves my keyboard new word list. I have a potty mouth and tons of terrible words I add not found in the dictionary and stuff.
I wish you can have a pop-up for incoming calls during navigation like Samsung's Galaxy line.

I don't yet have mine in hand, but knowing about bringing back the app drawer seems rather important! This may be something I'll easily find with the device in hand, but I'm glad I know about this pitfall in advance.
EDIT:
After some looking around at this forum, this looks to be an important tip for people wanting to use IR applications. LG's IR API is already a PITA, yet now LG feels they need to make writing IR applications even more of a pain!

Anyone know if this app is affected by the OTA?
https://www.xda-developers.com/sams...to-remap-the-bixby-button-on-the-galaxy-s8s8/
@nest75068
Yes, I guess unfortunately it will be affected :
This news comes from XDA dev Flar2, who was updating his Button Mapper app for the GS8. He notes that his new Telus Galaxy S8 allowed remapping of the Bixby button with Button Mapper when he received it, but an OTA update changed the button's functionality. Now, the Bixby button's action is no longer routed through accessibility. Thus, it can't be changed without root access. I'd expect a similar OTA to hit all the other carrier variants as well.

Any idea why or how to get the flashlight toggle to show up as an option?

Edit: Button Mapper from the store has the option for flashlight toggle and it's pretty quick to turn on and off.

Any app that is used as an accessibility service on a phone auto requires these permissions. The bixby button action is only available through the accessibility service at this point, so there will be no solution that does not require this. Maybe if this or some other app was open sourced people would be more likely to approve of this

bxActions allows you to remap that button. I haven't tried with edge app, but I mapped it to Google Assistant.
Let's face it. Samsung is known for tossing in everything but the kitchen sink. Sometimes the features stick. Sometimes they're complete duds. List some of the features you actually use that you wouldn't find in stock Android
Something I've found very useful is the edge panel smart select. For instance if something's in a language I don't understand. Select rectangular, highlight the text I want. Hit Bixby vision and it gets translated. Or an item I want to purchase it will recognize it. It's actually quite good
The option to make volume controls control media by default. Something I wish stock Android would adopt because 90% of the time when I want to turn the volume down or up its media. So I like that I can make that the primary control

There is no eye icon or I'm missing something... Look at the screen shot... The word "ΤΕΛΟΣ" means "Finish" and that save the text as a photo... There isn't any icon of vision eye in all this procedure!
I'm using a text from opera browser and I try the same with a text from a photo... The same thing...

Yes I have noticed the same problem... Sometimes works and sometimes doesn't....
Did u actually enable the whole bixby vision service? Where u have to install it and "allow" for permissions. Pretty sure its in camera app. Then once bixby vision is good to go u should be able to use it in smart select/other places
I think the size of your selection matters. I was trying to pull a tracking number my wife sent. The first time I selected just the number. No bixby vision option. I selected more area and the option appeared.
Something else I noticed really cool is that pin to screen option. OMG so usful.

I go to great lengths to make my device not have bixby ?
You really aren't missing anything at all. Install Google Assistant if you're into this sort of app. You will be way ahead of stock Samsung ???
