Samsung s8 + -- system ui tuner - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I am trying to access the UI tuner on the Samsung S8 plus. I have downloaded the SystemUI tuner by Zacharia. I have untoggled the heads up toggle and i have also activated the Power notifications Control.
By doing this nothing happens in terms of Heads up as they still appear. Furthermore i am unable to find out where to change the level down on an APP such as Whats APP.
Can someone please advise as to how i can change this as i ultimately want to disable the heads up message displays. Yes i have tried the ADB thing which did work on my S7 but does not work on my S8.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks

Did you do the adb commands? You have to grant permissions via a couple adb commands. The are listed on the app when you open it.

Yes I did insert the ADV commands as stipulated by the APP. I have disabled the heads off toggle as well and enabled the power notifications toggle which should allow u to drop down the permission levels per app. I don't know where to navigate to in order to do this tho?
I am not even sure that the Samsung S8 even allows this sort of app manipulation like other devices running Nougat7.0.
I ultimately want to disable the heads off display and I have scoured every forum imaginable trying to find a solution with no luck.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Not sure if the S8 allows it either. Good luck with it, I just used it to get rid of the battery in the status bar.

Thanks I hope someone has a solution or a way to get rid of the dreadful headsup display.

you can. first, disable the power notif toggle..
then, for all the apps you want to modify its level, disable the notification for those apps in settings > notification
go back to systemui tuner and enable power notif, then back to settings > notification, you can set level now.

Thank u so much!! That worked like a charm! U can't imagine how happy I am that I don't have the stupid headsup anymore!

Some of my apps like Facebook messenger don't allow me to make it higher than level 4, do u know a workaround to this? Is there a way I can use an adb command to instruct an app to change it's notification level?

I don't know.
it could be that the app itself doesn't have level 5 notif ? cmiiw.

deactivate heads-up notifications from Whatsapp on S8+ ?

Seems like a constantly reoccurring topic:
Anytime I'm using my phone, watching videos or showing others things on my phone, I'll receive any incoming whatsapp message as a very indiscreet pop-up in the top section of my screen.
I've tried using the "adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0" setting that works on some phones... sadly not on the S8+.
There's an App by Jawomo called "noHeadsUp" in the playstore, however this app involves activating (and then partially bypassing) the "do not disturb" function accompanied by the statusbar notification.
Jawomo's App "Headsoff", which worked perfectly on my S6 edge, seems to not be working on Android 7.0
Anyone have a solution to this issue?
(Pop-Up notifications are, of course, turned off in whatsapp's settings)
THANKS!

Yes only way i found now is - ON the Pop-Up notifications to, only show when Phone is OFF in WhatsApp
I had NOTE 7 and we could stop the Preview in that older phone
Why we are not able to that here
This actually disables the notifications from popping up when I'm actively using my phone.. but yeah... now they pop up when my phone is locked... not sure which is worse.
Thanks though.
ive been trying to find an answer to this for over 2 weeks since getting the s8 and still had no joy , had the same issue on s7 but there was a solution to that but doesnt work on my s8.
i have emailed whatsapp developers direct and had no response from them at all.
think the only solution for now is to use a different messaging app and delete whatsapp.
If they didn't remove system ui tuner, we could then stop it. I hate the damn crap always popping up in my face. People seem to talk more when I'm trying to watch youtube and cover the damn video.

There a free app called noheadsup that works for me. Install app and use single app setting scroll down to WhatsApp and you can disable the popup notification in there. I still get vibration alert when I get a msg.
Does it work to go to the Apps manager in the phone's Settings, and turn off Notifications for WhatsApp?

if you turn off notifications for whatsapp then you dont get any sort of notification at all, i still need the sound or vibrate just not the big banner across the top with all my message contents on view for anyone looking at my phone to read.

It's called "peek" now and if Samsung left the system ui tuner in, then we could disable just the peek/heads-up.
This is what I did to make it work.
Installed noheadsup
Open app and go to the in app settings (basic settings)
In the first box "disable all" make sure this is not activated
In the second box "disable single" activate this and press settings.
This will load all you apps in a list.
Scroll down to WhatsApp and select it
In this next menu make sure that allow notifications and show silently are both on. Set the "on lock screen" to not show notifications
Go back... And turn on vibration and sound alerts.
For me, the sound alerts don't work but the phone does vibrate and there are no popups. S8+

For that we do not need this App for it to show Silently
we can just go in the WhatsApp settings and
Turn on Show silently
But if the PAID version works with sound i would Pay
Doesn't work for me neither
Same here.
It disables popup, but there is no sound then..
After update i do not get mesg Previews anymore

I have successfully disabled heads up notifications for my s8+. Get the Tiles apk by rascarlo from the Playstore, grant adb privilege, enable the head up tile, booom, goodbye intrusive heads up notifications.

Not working here.
Nothing is working.
Only thing that is working is to mute the notifications all together per app... so no sound or vibration. This is really a very bad thing. I hate it.
1. Activate show notifications silently in settings.
2. Download an app called lightflow and set up notifications for WhatsApp.
3. Now you won't get popups, only sound and vibration.

Using this worked for me, no headsup notification but there's still sound and vibration. I think this is the best method because it modifies a system setting instead of needing an app to run in the background all the time (how Lightflow works).

How to use the Edge Lighting notifcations in all apps.

I noticed EdgeLighting does not work with all the apps, and I found the cause.
#Edge Lighting trigger condition
1. First, target apps notification "on" in Edge Lighting setting.
2. Disable "Heads-up notifications" switch.
3. Enable "Power Notification Controlls" switch.
4. Set the Notifications importance level in system setting, level4 higher.(always peeking)
*To apply the conditions 2,3 we use SystemUI Tuner(u can download at playstore)
The detail is refer to "Fixing Notifications" in this page bottom.
(I'm not good english ,so can't explain well by myself. sorry ;q).

*important*
It's necessary heads-up notification should be turned off.
If u don't turn it off Edge Lighting will hide.

I will try it. Thank you very much.
in my own experience, edge lighting works with Heads-up notification enabled..
also for screen off to work with all apps need to use Lightflow Legacy.

Nex S global edition - can't get notification to work for the life of me!

Coming from a Huawei Mate 7 and 8, I'm completely familiar with the "unique" ways of how notifications are handled on Chinese phones and the hoops you have to jump through to make it work. With that said, i think I've met my match. Just received my NS global edition last week and for the life of me, i cannot get notification to work for one of my apps - Nine email. I have done the following:
1. Enable autostart in iManager
2. Grant all permissions (for the hell of it) in iManager
3. Allow all notifications in settings > status bar & notifications
4. Allow background consumption in settings > battery
5. Disable battery optimization in built-in Android battery setting (via GSam Battery monitor)
Despite all that...nothing is happening when the screen is off. I get the notification when screen is on but absolutely nothing when it's off. The phone is completely stock at this point, i have not done any ADB commands of that nature. Does anyone have other places to check that i might have overlooked? Thanks!
need to do this: settings-more settings-applications-installed-your app-permission-single permission settings- than activate all option than go back to notification and enable.what u want.

You're absolutely right! I'm so stupid..i did an export/import of the config for this app from the Mate 8 over and that broke the notification! Notification does work with all of those steps, i just have to do a fresh setup of the app!:good:

Ambient Display Customisation

Hello,
Since there's no more LED in the Pixel 3, I want ambient display to turn on when notification come in (as they normally do), but stay on till I wake up device and dismiss the notification, then turn off when there's no notification.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to enable this via tasker or any other app.
Is anything like this possible?
Thank you!
LED blinker pro has been talked about. Give that app a try.

That would be a great alternative to the always on display. I would love to know if there was a trick to make that work. Otherwise, yes, there are a bunch of screen led notification apps on the play store, but I haven't found any that play nicely with the default lockscreen. Some notifications work well, others dont. Give it a try though.

Yes you can do this via tasker.. in fact the latest versions have it built in.. just look under settings for "custom setting". Click the little search icon under name and it will help you find it by toggling it.
I just set it to enable ambient when a notification comes in and then turn the screen on once (you can turn ambient on when the screen is off, but it wont actually work until the screen has turned on once), and disable it either when the notification is cleared, or when you unlock the screen. Seems to work well...

I just want to:
- Thank you for the idea. I was a little bit concerned about the lack of notification led, and also didn't like LED Blinker Pro and similar...
- Note that actually you don't need root to let Tasker toggle Secure Settings... You just need to grant Tasker permissions to change Secure Settings via adb (tasker help guides you to do so). It was quite straighforward, and now my phone acts exactly as I wanted!
Thanks again.

I have root - but can you please explain how you got tasker to do this for you. I haven't used tasker since the Android 2.2 days so I'm basically a newb. Or, I think you can simply export your tasker profile so I can import it directly. Whichever is easiest for you.
Well... my profile fits my needs, but may not fit yours... Also I must do some fine tunning, as it stills doesn't act as I would love. Sometimes AOD is not deactivated, and I must find why. But 90% of the time it's working Ok.
Anyway, I PM you my config so you can test it.
Let me export and send it to you.
You can enable ambient display to show when you get a notification through System > Display > Ambient > New Notifications.
I've just created an app called Pixel Pulse. I could use some testers if anyone is willing to give it a try. You can select the apps you want to have the app pulse your Ambient Display. There's paid customization for icons and colors but the core functionality of the app is free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
If you had previously purchased Ambi-Turner, it has been updated for the new permissions, but because it was written for 8.0 and when Google's ambient display worked differently I decided to leave it as it is. You may however transfer your purchase status of Ambient Display to Pixel Pulse using both apps.

This is not the issue, we're trying to replicate the functionality of the LED pulse so that we can see missed notifications. Ambient display only wakes for a few seconds and then never again.

I was talking exactly about that when I told you to customize to your needs. In my "ON" profile, I just want some apps notifications to trigger it. If you can't deselect some apps, you could try to open the .xml file with a text editor before importing, and delete them there.

Doesn't really work on my PIxel 3a XL (Android 10).
Pixel Pulse is installed and enabled, battery optimazion disabled, Pulse interval set to 8s, gmail and WhatsApp set to "Pulse" and "Show All", Display > Lockscreen > Always on disabled and Display > Lockscreen > New notifications enabled.
But does not pulse. New notification is shown for some seconds (like without Pixel Pulse), after hiding, maybe the pixel pulse notification will show up one or two times (but faster than 8 seconds!) and after that nothing more.
AmbiTuner also doesn't seem to work.

Disable Heads Up Notifications?

I've been using a Lineage PIE ROM on my OPO for months and the heads up notification toggle was a tile.
Can't find anywhere to disable it on this OP7 Pro.
Is it possible?

I actually have been disabling them with adb on my past 3-4 devices. But with the 7 pro, if you disable heads up, you won't receive notifications at all when screen is off (unless there is sound)
Also just discovered this, I had my animations turned off and my horizon light didn't work. Randomly turned them on today and what do you know... Animations off = no horizon light.
Not sure what OP is doing to notifications...
Okay so I found no tile but if you switch to Do not Disturb Mode you can deactivate them.
Go into settings->do not disturb->notifications->custom
It's not as efficient as the tile but it works. And I guess with the alert slider it's at least manageable since you can switch pretty easily

I actually have been disabling them with adb on my past 3-4 devices. But with the 7 pro, if you disable heads up, you won't receive notifications at all when screen is off (unless there is sound)

It seems if you do it with the method mentioned above you can have the screen turn on and no pop up for notifications

These are my settings but the pop ups still occur.
If that doesn't work the only other idea I have is misusing game mode..
Obviously it's not really that usable for games then anymore
I use Tasker for this.

Is there a profile you can share?
There are apps that can help with this.
I use Shortcutter, works with root and non root via adb.

Do notifications still come through on Ambient Display on this?
Tried the same adb command and it broke Ambient Display, worked fine on 6T tho
Connect the device via ADB and run the following command from a command prompt on your computer:
adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0
That disables heads up notifications only

I'm not too sure about that actually, haven't really paid attention to ambient display with this setting enabled.
My use case is to disable these notifications only when in certain apps (YouTube, Netflix). As soon as Ieave these kinds of apps, heads up notifications will enable again.
You can try adding a screen state context, so ensure that %SCREEN = on, else enable heads up notifications to ensure ambient display notifications work.
Just do it in adb. One command and it's off. Still get notifications and dots. And sounds. Just no heads up. Works perfectly...
adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0
