i have a rooted s8 phone.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/root-remap-bixby-button-o-app-t3601061

Hello
after editing you just need to rename it back to Generic.kl
then check permissions then reboot
Good Luck !!

You don't need to rename the file at all. Just leave the name alone, make your changes, save, reboot. Done.
And of course it would be foolish to not backup the file first if you don't know what you're doing.

[Q] unable to update manually, getting unsuccessful download.

Hello, I seem to be having a problem when I attempt to download update 2.3.3. Whenever I select the link it never works. The ending result is a message saying unsuccessful download. I've tried other websites only to have the same outcome. Here is some info about my phone that may help on the diagnosis. It was sent to samsung for a screen repair and at the time my NS was on 2.3.2. I received that update via ota. When i got it back it from repair it was on 2.3.0 and I believe the bootloader is now unlocked (when i turn it on the lock is unlocked at the bottom of the screen). I got 2.3.1 again ota recent;y and I'm on version GRH78. Thanks for any help you can offer.
I don't understand how you're getting "unsuccessful download." Are you downloading the .zip from your phone?
ya im doing it from my phone. am i way off and i should be using my comp?
That's why.. the browser is made in a way so that you can't download files.
To workaround this, download ASTRO from the market. Open ASTRO, go into preferences and scroll down and check the box "Enable Browser Downloads."
If you don't want to do that.. download it from the computer.
Rename to update.zip (unless its not stock recovery)
Put it on the root of sdcard (/sdcard/)
Unmount
Boot into recovery
Update from update.zip
Done.
Links to 2.3.3 are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967953
Press the thanks button if this helped you, its the least you can do
Enjoy.
And if you downloaded from the browser.. use ASTRO (or any file manager) and go into /sdcard/downloads/ and move the .zip to the root of sdcard and rename to update.zip
Cool, thanks. I'm going to give the Astro route a try. I'll post my results.
When I'm in astro and i press the rename button it doesn't seem to do anything. Like it wont let me rename it. Thanks again. and where abouts is that thanks button. It's probably right in front of me.
Is there away to completely delete the file in astro and start over. When i initially was trying to rename the file i hit new folder and named it update.zip. Now that folder seems to be amongst the rest of the those folders i downloaded. will that effect anything. Or if i go the comp way how do i find the internals of my phone (sdcard) to move the file in there. thanks

You don't need to redownload. You're just wasting bandwidth. Use another file manager or mount it via usb and rename to update.zip and move to root of sdcard
To rename:
Long press the zip. Edit. Rename.
Not hard. Just calm down. Its not a race

Using Astro i finally figured out how to rename the file to update.zip but i can't figure out how to put it on the root of my sdcard. I've been long pressing the renamed file and then edit and i press move. It says it's moving the file (no idea where it's going) but I'm not given an option of where to put it.

Long press the .zip -> Edit -> Move -> Press Back [the button on your phone] on the top left (update.zip should be in /mnt/sdcard/download/), go to the point until it says /mnt/sdcard when you're there .. on the top there are a set of buttons.
Paste, Home, Up, Multi,Edit Arrows... press paste
And please give me some thanks. Or I'll stop responding to this :\ its the least you can do for me helping you. Much appreciated.
Sorry on the late thanks. I'd press it twice if i could. Going to give this a try, hope it works Don't mean to break topic but i was wondering if it's ok to do this update recovery process while it's charging via wall socket. Or should recharge and then proceed.

Nope it shouldn't matter. I actually recommend doing the process while its plugged in, especially if its at a low battery percentage rate. Because if its doing this process and your battery is low and it decides to shut off. You might possibly brick your device (speculating).
Not that I'm trying to scare you of bricking your device. Nexus S is pretty secure, haven't heard a single report of a legit brick. It's really hard to brick this phone.
It's official, Currently running 2.3.3!! Thanks a million.. ps. In regards to the discussions involving this update and the screen colors changing. I feel compelled to mention that I prefer the new look, which is very subtle. Whether it's just my specific phone that looks better or my personal preference, the colors are definitely more natural. Thanks again man, peace.

Okay so I got everything done and it soft bricked so I used ODIN to unbrick it and when I retry to get into CWM it always errors out now, I've redone everything I originally did and it won't go back into CWM. Why?
Sounds like you didn't replace the recovery binary correctly if it's giving a "verification failed" error.
I did though, I rooted my phone using super one click, robooted it, replaced recovery in system/bin with krios' and left the update.zip on the root and it still didnt. I dont think it really rooted though..

Try my script here, it'll place the recovery and cwm for you:

download:
http://www.krylon360.com/file_host/sk4g/recovery.zip (This is the recovery.)
http://www.krylon360.com/file_host/sk4g/update.zip (this is the update)
http://www.4shared.com/get/HpENkmN8/...rer_v2124.html (this is root explorer.)
open the first zip file (recovery file) on your computer and take out the recovery file inside it (should be the only file) and place it on the sd card.
place the second file (the update file) on the root of your sd card
and install (root explorer) the last file just like you would a normal apk file.
now open root explorer scroll down and find sdcard,
now open it and find recovery and long press on it. hit copy. now hit the back button once.
now find system. open it.
find bin. open it.
hit on the top mount r/w
hit paste and overwrite the file.
next, power down the device and instead of powering on regularly, press volume down+ power button or volume up+volume down+camera+power on you should be in the recovery mode.
if it is blue then hit re-install packages,
if it is red you should be good to go.
NOW YOU HAVE A CWM
Goodluck and have fun flashing.

Why does my Go Keyboard reset to stock?

Hi guys,
would anyone know why my Go Keyboard gets reset to the stock keyboard after every reboot? Im thinking maybe the app is stored in the wrong location or something.
After rebooting, I must always go into Settings to change it from stock to Go Keyboard. I prefer not having to do that
Thanks!!
I don't know about this problem, because I'm not using the Go keyboard but what you might try is to navigate to /data/app/ and look for the go keyboard apk.
Important:
Just to verify, for all that I'm saying right now you need to have root permission. So if you don't have root this won't be a solution for you. And backup the files, before modifying them!
Well, as I said, navigate to the path and copy the apk to system/app/ and rename the existing AxT9IME.apk to AxT9IME.apk.bak (for example) and rename the go keyboard apk to AxT9IME.apk .
So what you did was just renaming the go keyboard to the stock android keyboard. Hope this helps!
If don't, just delete the modifyed AxT9IME.apk and rename the AxT9IME.apk.bak to AxT9IME.apk .
U might just freeze all un used ime with Titanium bkup or rename the. Apk to sth else like above said

[Q] SOLVED! Flip volume keys?

Hi all - Is there a way to flip the volume keys? I use my tab 7.7 in landscape 100% of the time and would rather the key nearest the power button be Volume Down and the other key be Volume Up.
I've tried both the normal version of ButtonRemapper & the Galaxy Tab version of ButtonRemapper but neither seem to work for me.
Any suggestions?
*****EDIT******
I figured out that all i needed to do was to manually edit the keylayout files in /system/usr/keylayout
I wasn't sure which file to edit so i just edited any of them that referenced Volume.
I used ES Explorer in root mode to modify the files, rebooted and now the keys are flipped
*****EDIT*****
Solved!
I googled and figured out the solution - i have modified the first post with the info.
Confirm only need to modify the Generic.kl file.

Photon Q / Droid 4 QWERTZ Mod

You can just replace the Keys, all Keys are Stickers
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
The device must not be opened !!!
Then copy these files to system/usr/keylayout/
http://www.share-online.biz/dl/18IWSTKMY76
I guess I should port the keyboard layout changer from MS1 to CM10.
Just saw this thread today:
Awsome! Now the Q is really complete!!
Stupid question of the day :
Which program do you recommend to copy the files into /system/usr/ ? Androxplorer obviously can't do it, i need a program with Root access, right ?
EDIT : Used Rootexplorer, and this worked. However, i still don't get the German keyboard layout ? How do i activate this ?
after overwriting the files you have to reboot your device.
I use ES Explorer for stuff like that.

damn, how nice. but i really miss the ö, ä, ü and ß key on the photonq, because i mostly write in austrian dialect, which has much umlauts.
(jetzt seh ich grade, du heißt gehstock. wie gehts dir ohne umlaute?)
with well modified keyfiles you can access Umlaute by double pressing the Vokal. ß by double pressing s ;p
very handy

Sorry guys, i tried several times but i can't get this to work. The reason is simply that all file managers i have tried so far, Rootexplorer and ES Explorer, fail when trying to overwrite the existing system/usr/keylayout/ folder, although both have perfect root access (i have SU Superuser for this).
What can i do to get this working ? Are there different levels of root access ?
you have to get write access to the system folder by remounting it
su mount -o remount,rw /system
for es explorer open the left sided menu.
Werkzeuge
click on Root Explorer
R/W einbinden
choose r/w twice.
now you should be able to overwrite files

Thank you so much, that did the trick ! I have been to the 'tools' section (=Werkzeuge) of ES Explorer before already, but didn't realize that there are additional functions when clicking on the switches. Allowing R/W for system and root did it, i have QWERTZ finally !
EDIT : I don't know what happened, but for a while the second phone i did the update with did not react to the keyboard any longer at all, and also the power button could not be used to interrupt the screensaver. I tried various actions, also changing the permissions for the new 'keylayout' folder (i renamed the old one to 'keylayout_backup') from the GZ archive file to 'rwx' for all groups, not only 'root', and all of a sudden - after some reboots - everything was fine again. Keyboard worked again, and phone will react to power button. Don't know exactly what i did to get this working, but thank god it does ....
EDIT #2 : This is strange, although i do have QWERTZ working now on all three XT897 phones, on one of them the power button is not working anymore since i changed the keylayout folder. The button itself is working, i can power on the phone fine if it shut down, but as soon as ANDROID has started it won't allow me to lock and unlock the screen with the power button, i have to use the keyboard for that. The phone can be used this way, but this is quite annoying as it makes one handed use almost impossible ? BTW, the other two phones are on 4.1.2, this one is still 4.0.4, will that explain the difference ?
Is there any possible explanation to this behaviour ? Maybe a wrong/outdated file in the new /system/usr/keylayout folder ?
it's possible the key isn't defined inside the file. never had this problem with my files but I used them with jb stock and cm10.2.
you probably should check your files again and/or just update to cm10.2.

But i was using exactly the same files in all three phones, the original files from Gehstock from his original link, and they worked for the two phones with 4.1.2, only on mine with 4.0.4 they don't work for the power button ? I had this strange effect that in one of the two 4.1.2 phones the keyboard would not work at all, including power button, immediately after overwriting the old files, but after fiddling around with read/write permissions it worked all of a sudden, and including power button.
Now i have QWERTZ on all three phones, but on mine with 4.0.4 the power button will only work if i want to switch on the phone, as soon as ANDROID is running the power button doesn't react anymore, meaning i have to use TWRP to shut it down again and can't switch to flight mode at all. Any idea what could be causing the problems ? Which of the files in the keylayout folder will describe the power button, maybe i should make a reload of this file ?
EDIT :
Here a list of the files in my original /system/usr/keylayouts folder on Android 4.0.4 :
AVRCP.kl
cyttsp-i2c.kl
Generic.kl
keypad_8960.kl
msm8960-snd-card_Button_Jack.kl
qwerty.kl
usb_keyboard_102_en_us.kl
Vendor_05ac_Product_0239.kl
Vendor_22b8_Product_093d.kl
Vendor_22b8_Product_0938.kl
Vendor_045e_Product_028e.kl
Vendor_046d_Product_c216.kl
Vendor_046d_Product_c294.kl
Vendor_046d_Product_c299.kl
Vendor_046d_Product_c532.kl
Vendor_054c_Product_0268.kl
In the new layout folder from Gehstock there are a number of additional files, especially
atmel_mxt_ts.kl
Button_Jack.kl
gpio-keys.kl
philips_remote_ir.kl
samsung_remote_ir.kl
ue_rf4ce_remote.kl
while some others are missing, like msm8960-snd-card_Button_Jack.kl and usb_keyboard_102_en_us.kl .
Is the problem with my power button maybe resulting from any of the missing files, or the additional files which can't be read in 4.0.4 ?
EDIT 2 : I solved the problem. Deleted the folder from Gehstock, brought my original folder back and only replaced the file 'keypad_8960.kl' with the one from Gehstock. Now i have QWERTZ and my power button is working again.
Can anybody explain to me why we are told to replace the complete folder, if all we need for QWERTZ is the one file ? I only found this out when reading this thread here (German ) :
http://www.android-hilfe.de/motorol...difizierte-belegung-des-hardwarekeyboard.html
When reading this thread it became clear to me that all we need to replace is 'keypad_8960.kl' to get QWERTZ.
So, has anyone an idea how we can get double or longpress on a,o and u to get ä, ö and ü ? At the moment, ihave to close the phone too type the letters with the software keyboard. Plus, i have a major problem, when i type ****+, it doesnt type a semicolon but a <, same with shift+. No double point or however the two dot thing is called, but a >
Any idea how to fix those issues?
I suppose you are not using cm11? (umlaut = sym + vowel) just select the right layout. (the second "Asanti QWERTY" is qwertz)
when using cm10 or stock rom (rooted) you could insert a modded layout file for double pressing

i cant get cm11 to run on my photon q... dunno why, but no rom boots, so i have to stick with aokp , since its the only rom working.
so.... you could just add a modded layout file into the right folder to get double pressing!?!

no, which files exactly are the ones qwertz (not qwerty, i replaced y/z) with äöü?
[off topic] btw, is there anything special i have to keep in mind for installing custom roms on my photon q (with gsm sim mod)? i have twrp and aokp running, but only aokp and colorOS are installing, everything else fails while installing.
