For youtube I use http://dentex.github.io/apps/youtubedownloader/ and https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/releases/
Both have their flaws, but I have mostly been happy. I still haven't found a good 'general' one for most other sites embedded videos found on the web.

After watching my son end up on strange videos on YouTube because the other children's apps link to the YouTube player, I decided to create TykesTube to prevent that from happening. Kids won't be able to go to other YouTube content while in this app and there are no ads. The link below is to the trial version which has links to 20 videos and there is a paid version that has a lot more.
