Definitely is a power saver thing. I've noticed that it does some goofy things in that mode.
There are two auto brightness toggles, 1 in main settings and 1 in browser settings. If it only dims in the browser its the one in the browser itself. While in browser hit the menu key scroll down to the setting I said above and uncheck auto brightness and other settings in that menu.

The battery saver mode auto adjust pages outside of your main screens, so anything that is web will auto dim. You can go in and adjust you web page brightness by going to a web page, click you menu, scroll down to brightness and colors. In battery saving mode it will move your screen brightness to either level 1,2, or 3. You want it default and automatic brightness selected so that you do not see a difference from your phone screens to a web page.
Is it normal in Lollipop that when the notifications pop up on the Lockscreen and the screen turns on that the screen is very dim (hard to see anything) and then brightens up when you touch the screen?
I just wanna see if that's normal or if it's happening because of some apps like LUX which I have running.
I forget where the press back to kill app setting is., anyone remember?

Mine is doing the same. I've tried with and without LUX. I like the concept, but it is very dim. I'm on Viper 4.3.

Are you by chance talking about the ambient display option where the screen displays notifications in black and white first? If so you should be able to turn off ambient display.

Thanks I guess I didn't quite understand what the ambient display really does other then just turning the screen on automatically.

This is an app dependent setting, you can't universally disable it for all apps I guess. You have to manually edit the app.
Else try going to that app's settings and see if there's an option to reduce brightness.
Else use an app like this: Darker to decrease the brightness of everything universally, which even overrides the app's settings.
Anybody seen this app? Just found it by accident. Works like the built-in one should. It's free and ad free.

I like the notch and will not be hiding it
only problem with that app is it produces 2 persistent notifications. not a good trade-off in my book.

Hold the notification. You can hide them.

the notifications are there to keep the app running all the time. if you block the notifications the app likely will quit working at times.

Hasn't for me. Been running since I posted this.
20degrees method worked for me. No persistent notification. Now I can have the notch always hidden like I wanted
Works nicely. Now when you go into other apps, the top stays black and the notch stays hidden.
Only minor issue if you have OCD, is say you use something like FB Messenger, part of the chat head will be hidden under the blacked out part of the top.
I've been running it for 3 days and no issues yet. Still stays persistent too!

Can't you do the same thing without installing an extra app?
Settings -> Display -> Second Screen
Pick "Custom" and it should change it to be black around the edge of the notch by default.

Nope. This stays all the time.

That stops when u go into apps where the notification bar is a different color. This app keeps it black all the time.

Yup. I actually just donated to the guy. It's worth a few $$ to me.
Does anyone know of a way to get Google Photos to "respect" the notch and not stretch all the way to the top? Otherwise the close and menu icons are cut off (when Natcho Notch) when you're editing a photo.
Conversely, for full-screen apps that do respect the notch but hide the status bar, like Acrobat Reader and Google Play Books, is there a way to force the status bar to show? Otherwise, we have wasted space on both sides of the notch.
My only concern is that unlike amoled screens, lcd screens stay lit when the screen needs to display black. Would it cause burn in by any chance?

My understanding is that LCD screens are not susceptible to burn-in the way AMOLED screens are.

Nope. I've been using it since June and no issues here.
Hey all,
I'm so used to all the features of Light Flow that I didn't realize how much I depended on it. Since the 3 does not have an LED, I'm looking for an alternative app to manage my notifications. I want to be able to choose the notification sound and the vibration pattern per app.
Light Flow does this but not without requiring a persistent notification. Normally you'd be able to avoid this by installing Light Flow Legacy, but it does not show up in the app store on the Pixel 3.
Does anybody have any recommendations?
Thanks
Go to apk mirror and download light flow legacy that way. Let us know how it goes. I really hate the lack of notification LED, but I'm not willing to go as far as you to customize the vibrations etc.

Already tried this. It doesn't seem be on there.
I've been using Light Manager. It displays customized colored icons on the screen in place of the LED, with AOD turned off. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.

Since there is no LED, we have no way of knowing if my phone is charging when plugged in without turning on the screen. Does light manager have a solution for this too?
Yes, it shows a charging icon and the %

I tried it and it looks like the default lock screen prevents the icons from displaying. Do you have your screen set to stay off when new notifications come in or is there something else you changed in either the app or system settings? Sorry for hijacking the thread with all the questions, but this lack of LED makes my phone useless while the screen is off.
Yes I have always on display off, and new notifications off. Double tap and lift for notifications I still have on though.

What other settings do you have? My phone isn't waking up with Light Manager with AOD/new notifications off and double tap/lift for notifications on. I do not have a lock screen enabled nor does it work with lock screen (swipe) enabled.
The "tests" aren't working either.

Does this require you to double-unlock to get to your phone, or is there someway around that?

Are you setting Light Manager to "Screen Mode" in the top right?

That got it working. I have to tap the screen once, home/back button then shows, then double tap to get to the home screen.
Yeah I use fingerprint unlock and realize it requires it being done twice. We need a cleaner solution.

A cleaner solution was the $0.03 LED that Google removed from the phone! It shouldn't be this hard to tell if my phone is charging.
If I wanted a useless notification system, I would've purchased an iPhone!
