failed partition? now boot loop when inserting sd card - Sony Xperia XZs Questions & Answers

I've been trying to partition my sd card so I can fully move my apps to it as link2sd doesnt fully move apps.
I followed videos and posts, after partitioning with minitools partition and inserting to phone then opening link2sd i had the pop up message to choose (ext2, ext3, ext4, fat32) I didnt understand which to pick from ext after searching so i just clicked one of them. after that my phone went into boot loop unless i remove the sd card. I tried to format once again and do partitioning, but whenever i insert into phone it would just go into boot loop.
what should I do now?
UPDATE
i manged to get it to work but then when i tried to mount i recieve:
mount script cannot be created
invalid argument
Update2
Seems like theres specific way to partition it then another thing to fix mount script but after this waiting seems like no one know how

If your having issues using paragon partition manager, and trying to make a linux swap partition, try these instructions for formating thru Cyanogens newest recovery
Formatting you SDcard
You only need to do this once folks..if you already have 3 partitions including linux-swap move to step 2
You need Recovery image 1.31 to do this folks!
To format card SD card with linux-swap WARNING!!! this will reformat you entire SD card!!
You can use the recovery console and parted to format SDcards with 1.31 folks, no more going through hassles you have the tools on you G1!...here is an example of how to do this in recovery console using parted
Example for 8GB card (specific value's may be slightly different use print to verify your total SDcard size~!
Reboot and enter recovery
Enter console
#parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
#print (to verfiy we know what size card we are dealing with, the details should be straight forward)
rm 1
rm 2
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 7584
mkpartfs primary ext2 7584 8127
mkpartfs primary linux-swap 8127 8159
#print (to verify we have the 3 partitions)
Example for my 4GB card
#parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
#print (to verfiy we know what size card we are dealing with, the details should be straight forward * then grab a calculator to figure the exact amounts... as shown below that is an example..)
rm 1
rm 2
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 3420
mkpartfs primary ext2 3420 3932
mkpartfs primary linux-swap 3932-3964
"End?" you need to place the last value for the linux swap eg.3964 for my 4GB card
#print (to verify we have the 3 partitions)
Next we need to "quit" parted and upgrade our ext2 partition to ext3
#upgrade_fs
Swap value is set to 30 currently, you can change this by modifying the "echo" value for swappiness in the a2sd.sh script
swap partition shouldnt be no larger than 92mb
ext2/3 partition shouldnt be more than 500mb ( more than that is too much )

during the paragon process it says do not interrupt it while it is formating, cause you pc can become unstable. and thats exactly what you did.. u might be able to press the esc button, i believe it gives that option at the bottom of the screen to exit it properly. but rebooting was wrong...
anytime u FORMAT any drive or card you will lose information, thats pc fundamentals... will add the issue about losing info to orig post..

Question
First i partitioned my mini sd card using my G1 with paragon manager and when everything was done the computer restarts.
But the weired thing is that now when i mount my G1. My G1 is recognized by my computer but it does not show me the storage device on my computer folder or even prompt me with opening a folder for my storoge card. I am freakin out.
Things i tried.
1. Rebooted my phone
2. nandrroid backup restore
3. restarted my computer
4. changed minisd cards.
5. uninstalling the usb android driver and reapplying it
6. went to usb debug on the settings on the phone
nothing worked.
Thanks . Any help would do.

Fix ******Update
It took me alot of time to figure this out. if anyone gets this problem just assign your sdcard a Letter. Example: E: Drive.
When i look at these tutorials it does not mention anything like that.
thanks anyways

2. did you mount the sdcard to the pc ?
3. may show as F drive on your pc !!!
I used PM 10, it is very easy. However when the program wants to reboot it says there is an error, but I check that the ext2 partition is good by typing busybox df -h in terminal.
I've partitioned several cards now and they all work.
I found that doing a wipe then installing Lucid's rom.
I reinstall my applications from mybackup pro and downloading others from the market.
I test everything is working fine, then and only then I use the scripts that Lucid posted.
To recap ensure that busybox recognises the ext2 partition then wipe, install Lucids rom

thank you for the info..
was looking for the commands to verify that the ext2 partition is done correctly, and of course it verifies that busybox is working also..
I'm having a large issue with my new Micro SD card.
When using PM and my MicroSD in an SD adapter it allows me to format and create partitions successfully JUST FINE with my Sandisk 2gb which is probably a class 2 or just not a class at all...it doesn't say on the card at all.
BUT I just bought a Transcend 8gb Class 6 HC card and when using the SD adapter the computer recognizes it just fine to open and view files...BUT Paragon says its "Invalid" and won't allow me to format, partition, or anything.
I have no idea what needs to be done differently. It works just fine in the phone and moving files but Paragon won't recognize it or allow it to be modified.
I need some help please!!!
First of I'm new to all this so I'm a nood and I need some help massively I have trying to make this ext2 partition on ubumtu for months and always get an error message and a lost and found folder in the ext2 partition. Found these directions and finally make the partition w/ no error messages. Fat32 1st then ext2 2nd type busybox command so I think its done right. So I try to mkdir /system/sd/app for marcus directions on apps to sd to use his apps to sd2 app and I get error /system/sd/app read only. Why is that so? I look in pargan partitioner were I made the parition and there both still there. I would be greatfull if anyone can help out a nood like me [email protected]. I have been trying to get this ext2 partiton for months and today thought I did it correct cause no error messages and boy was I wrong!! Please anyone help !!

im have the same problems as her, i dunno why
I am running vista 64 and paragon profesional. I can get it to format and can get the ext2, but I can not do anything with the card. I try and reformat the fat32 and give it a letter for a drive but it wont take or if i format it and then create the ext2 it gives the ext the drive letter(both cannot have a drive) What gives and in the meantime I have to use the 1gig because although paragon recognizes the sd card my pc does not!
so i've done everything in the tutorial. and even the coding for checking busybox.
it doesnt show the ext2.
and i tried running the lucid commands
and it says ext2 is not mounted.
i get all the way to the ext2 part the very last thing
like mount/dismount and i get a error
saying to close a program or restart pc
cant close program because i dont know what it is so i click retry same error
i restarted pc 2 times
still same thign tried reformatting all over again what am i doing wrong? thanks guys!

E:/Can't Mount SD Card

Okay, So I normally never post in these forums. I am always reading and learning new ways to improve my Cell Phone.
Anyways, Today, I experienced a freaky Force Close. It was for my TWLauncher and no matter how many times I clicked FC, it still kept FCing not allowing me to enter into Debug mode to allow me to get to Recovery or even Odin.
Finally after clicking the Search button quick enough I was able to type in settings and then change to debug mode. I rebooted into Recovery mode and flashed to Default, no root, nothing. I then downloaded [ROM][ODIN] Stock DEODEXED KC1 [Root][Einherjar Dev Team][4.21.2011]-Whitehawkx booted that up and now Im trying to install CWM and {rom}Cwm-GB-2.3.5-Octane-V2.x.
Well first off I noticed something strange when I couldnt push from my adb so I manually went in and moved the file myself with a root file manager and placed the update.zip file and the zip file for the rom i wanted into my root.
I recovered mode, booted into CWM, and now when I try and Back up or update from zip file on sd card and I can't. Its telling me that...
"Unable to Mount Sd card"
or
E:/Can't Mount SD Card
I've tried formating SD Card from Phone and Computer. I've removed everything from SD Card, and still not working! Im soo confused. @[email protected]
I hope someone here can help me with this problem!
Thanks!

I have the same problem here!
Any suggestions? I even tried SD Formatter 3.1 to format my sd card but no luck...
TheKucho might be onto the issue. Did either of you have the sdcard formatted with the ext4 filesystem? If so, Windows won't be able to format it because it can't read ext4. I don't know about any of the apps in the market but I would think most of them are written for whatever filesystem is native to the platform (which ext4 is not, usually).
If you guys were on ext4, either mount the card via a Linux box & reformat it to FAT or you'll have to load a voodoo enabled kernel on your phone & reformat it that way.
Thanks for Reply Guys
The SD Card wasn't reformatted from the phone ever til last night.
I reformated to FAT32 on my laptop, readded my pictures to the sd card, and then moved it back to my phone...
I've tried multple sd cards, nothing seems to work. Almost as if the cell phone is finding the sd cards when in recovery mode or from the adb... I can take pictures and save them to sd, and I can mount sd to pc from usb coord, but thats it.
Yay
For anyone experiencing this problem, I have solved it thanks to the help of everyone here...
I followed the GB EXT4 Starter and installed octane 2.x-Updated
The steps worked completely, at one point it was bit fuzzy, right after finalizing EXT4 process, my phone began to boot up, load, auto reboot, but not completely, only went to splash screen, made noise, and then opned up again. OVER AND OVER.
I fixed this by battery drop, recovery mode, loading zip from sd, first the Octane, and then Busy Box.
I HAVE MY BABY BACK!

Hi Mike have you tried formatting the SD Card to exFat or Fat32, also check that the sd card is clean along with the slot in the phone.
Best of luck

[Q] CWM Restore fails with "Error formatting /sd-ext!"

Ok, a little background. As we all know, the Evo Shift is sorely lacking on internal data space. I have been using Link2SD with my CWM created 4GB ext3 partition for several weeks. However, Link2SD doesn't allow for linking other folders in /data to save even more internal space. So I installed FolderMount to see if I could use it to link /data/data to my ext partition. Before I started, I made a backup in CWM, as is necessary when messing with stuff you don't know. I rebooted the phone after the backup and linked /data/data with FolderMount and rebooted again. BAM! Bootloop. Ehh, oh well, right? I gotta backup, so no worries. Yeah, I wish. Slam into recovery, start the restore, and get "Error formatting sd-ext!" I'm not too worried, just wipe the SD and recreate the ext partition. Still the same. Try again, making every effort to pay close attention to every detail. Still no dice. I tried doing a fresh format with my PC, going into CWM and formatting SD again, recreate ext partition, try to format it and same error. I even tried throwing the SD card in completely unformatted, just to make sure, and of course CWM didn't even see the SD card at all (duh, but you gotta be sure). I am kinda stuck... I don't have the $$ to buy another 32GB Class10 SD card, and I don't have another SD card to use at all. Can anyone give me any guidance as to maybe something that I have missed or haven't thought of? I'm really scratching my head trying to get around this formatting error. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Ok, nevermind, I figured it out. Main thing was, don't be up for 48 hrs and try messing with your phone. LOL! Second, while CWM will create a 4gb ext3 partition, it doesn't like to format or recognize them correctly. So I opted for a 2gb ext3 partition and I am good to go. This thread can be deleted. Thank you.

Cool you figured it out. I just saw this post, but if it happens in the future, you can try a program Partition Master. I've used it to take an SD card with didn't partitions (ext3 and ext4) to reformat it to a single volume. Plus, you can partition it this way too. I haven't used it in a year or so, but I remember it working when I was just messing around. You have to stick the micro SD card into an adapter and then connect it to your computer as a regular SD card. Then run the program and mess around with it.
Bro, I had tried everything. I used EaseUS Partition Master to reformat, repartition, and all. I checked the CWM log, which I had completely missed, because I had been up working for 48 hours straight. Log showed this error, which I basically commited to memory.
Mke2fs: lseek: Value too large for defined data type
A little more research on that error told me that CWM doesnt like 4gb ext3 partitions. It's weird though, because I've had this 4gb ext3 partition for a while and have flashed many roms and restores without issues. It started after I tried using 2 different symlinking apps. So I just tried a 1gb ext3 partition and everything works. I'll work out the error to get my 4gb partition back when I get some time.
Sent from my PG06100 using xda app-developers app
I've never needed more than 1gb myself. 4gb seems like a lot.
I have a 2GB ext.4 for the tester.

Link2SD doesn't recognize second SD partition

I'm currently trying to move some apps on an LG G2 Mini running Lollipop to the SD card so I rooted the phone using KingRoot and tried to follow this guide but for the love of me I can't make Link2SD see the ext2 partition.
I've tried formatting it to ext4 as some people have suggested, to ext2, giving it a label or not but nothing helps. The partition goes second, is marked as primary and Link2SD is granted root permissions so nothing should be wrong and yet every time I am prompted to choose the filesystem of the second partition, I get an error saying that the script can't be created and a "mount: No such file or directory" error. Also, when I choose the "memory" option in the upper right of Link2SD, the "2nd SD partition" bar is empty and says "not installed" underneath.
What could I do to make it work?
Wow, it just... worked. Dunno how in the world, but it did. I just plugged the card into my PC to copy some files to the media (FAT32) partition, didn't format anything, put it in the phone, started Link2SD, it said there's an invalid path, I restarted the phone, started Link2SD, selected ext2 and this time it just... Worked. Rebooted and everything works fine. No idea why it suddenly decided to work but maybe it will help someone to recreate the steps I did
