OEM skin/software - OnePlus 5 Real Life Review

A higher rating indicates that you love it: it adds just the right amount of features, it's visually pleasing, and overall it's additive to the experience. I haven't had much urge to flash a source-built ROM on this device. OOS gives you a lot of features while still maintaining the AOSP-style look. I'm running some OOS-based ROMs, but nothing AOSP/CAF based yet.

Oxygen OS for me personally it's the best OEM "improvements" over stock Android.
However i don't like that we have no scheduled DND (you have to always move the slider to dnd position) . Very useful when you want to schedule every night dnd.. hope they will reconsider this.

It's nice, and I will probably continue to use it until Lineage becomes quite stable.
Things it's missing for me are pretty much all in the status bar.
Middle Clock
Battery percent inside the icon
Show battery bar on Bluetooth devices that support it.
Also, make the ambient display clickable like it is on Nexus phones. Like when the black and white screen comes on after picking the phone up or whatever, you can click the play button for media apps on Nexus phones and it starts playing, but it's non interactive on OOS.

The only thing that I need for OOS is fully substratum support. Nothing else.
The rest is good as it comes.

Oxygen OS is, from an aesthetic standpoint, what Android ought to be and what some many other phone makers fail to achieve.

Clean and simple without any of the bloat found on other skins. Very nice.
I just wish you can change the blue color scheme even though it works out for my state color#NC

The software is fast as hell, very easy to understand and intelligent.
It's the google phone I've been waiting for and that's largely due to smart software they've brought together that give you all of the features you need.
It's the little things. Had mine for two days now, was on the OPO. And a brief stint with the uberly crappy Nexus 5X before ditching it and going back to the OPO.
Anyways... I just want to talk about the sounds the phone makes and touch latency. For notifications, power button, typing clicks, etc. They are amazing. Nothing special about them to the naked eye, or ear. But I feel like Google put some time and effort into creating them. There is nothing loud about the text and email notifs, but I hear every single one of them. I don't get it. One simple little ding that grabs my attention each and every single time. No other phone has done this for me, nor has a phone that I have been around. They are all pleasant to hear, non obtrusive, and yet they are distinct and cool.
Touch latency. I ask anyone to go and grab an Android phone, Tell google you want to play pacman, and actually be able to play it without dying over and over again because PacMan can't make a quick turn. Then get on your/a Pixel and do the same thing. That is the best way I can try to show you how much of a difference i makes.
I love the skin/software. Only the gesture navigation needs a revamp (which it will in Android Q!) and the multitasking needs better efficiency.

I only love it because it's my first Android phone.

Resurrection Remix gives you the ability to enable Ambient Display. When you recieve a notification, it'll show the lockscreen with a black background and plain white text.
(Pretty sure it can be enabled in Lineage OS 14.1 also)
overall i like the device. runs very well after deleting google and samsung marketing spamware. if it had no root ability it would be just another bloat loaded trash can ready prepaid **** pile to be honest.
I definitely can't say I hate this phone. For the price, it's hard to hate what this phone can so. I currently have this phone due to my previous Note 5 having various issues with the sim card tray. So this still managed to be quite a downgrade from that.
Performance
At the start this phone was perfectly fine, it has been my daily driver for about half a year or more now. About a month in with some actual usage and after disabling all of the pre-loaded bloat (looking at you Facebook app). The phone would very often slow down to slower than a snail's pace. Along with those issues, opening certain apps (though I realise this is some of the developer's fault for lack of optimisation) caused the phone to come to an entire crawling pace. Making it unusable for about 30 seconds at a time while I'm waiting for x to open. Recently I decided to just enable developer options and disable animations outright. Which has made the phone feel just a bit more snappy, and stops it from raising the temperature by 5 degrees everytime you open recent apps.
Camera
The camera on this phone is surprisingly decent for the price of the phone. In situations where there is decent (normally natural) lighting the phone takes decent pictures. It falls short when you have to use the flash, or have any low light situations. Pictures quickly begin to become grainy and too dark under any non-ideal conditions. The launch time for the camera is hit and miss. Sometimes it will launch within a second or so and other times it will take an atrocious amount of time to launch, normally causing you to miss your shot. Though most people won't buy this phone for the camera.
Conclusion
For any of the people who saw this phone in Walmart recently and decided to come running to xda to see what it was like. I would personally recommend you saving another paycheck and spending your money on something a bit more pricey, with some higher specs. Often I found myself becoming frustrated with this phone in 2018. With the processor being a massive annoyance and not holding up very well when multitasking or any app that isn't texting. But if you're really looking to spend $64.99 (The price in a nearby Walmart as of yesterday) this isn't the worst option. But I bet there are better alternatives.

If you ask me, OxygenOS is the best thing about this device! I've always perfered stock Android over anything, so I always went with Nexus! Now that Nexus is gone, I'm finding I like OxygenOS MORE! It's like stock with features that no other OEM has put thought into and I LOVE IT!!! I've always used custom roms on all of my phones, but I don't even think this one NEEDS IT!

My word:good:
Exactly I've been doing the same since G1, and this is the first time I opted out of Nexus and bought OP6T,
Feels like a native Google device to me! Perfect!
IMHO, OxygenOS is the best skin of android. I prefer it even to stock android
Agreed. I've tried stock and oem. This is the smoothest and easiest to use of any.
Have a love hate relationship with the choices Oneplus makes. Gestures? Love them. The fact that the phone wants to make photos and new photo folders for no good reason? Nope. Big Nope. It's just not as easy to set things up to operate as they were on past phones. Oneplus needs to stop idolizing Apple, who makes things much harder than they need to be.
I am loving OOS! But I would love it even more with a true pure black interface theme. The current one is just dark grey.

I always wanted to have stock android but OOS is very similar to stock android with extra features. That is the main reason I chose OP keeping the price aside. But there are some features which I would like to have in OOS like the now playing feature on pixel.
I love how oos isn't bloated, the amount of customisations that can be done and how good the battery life on the rom is!

Performance is awesome, battery could have been better. feels premium in hands
Excellent looks and manageable performance.
8/10
Pros:
-Pie
-2 more years of updates
-Android One
-Battery
-Speed/Smoothness (6GB RAM)
-Price ($240NZD)
-Expandable Storage
Cons:
-Locked BL
-No NFC (I would use this w/ stock)
-Lack of decent cases
-Slightly under sized for my large hands
-Loose charging port (NB, no charging issue... just a little loose out of the box. Which had me panicking).
Really happy with my purchase/phone.
Was running an old Samsung Galaxy S5 w/ custom rom & it did everything I needed it to.
Do miss options a custom rom brings. But, Android One definitely has me sold.
Phone is so smooth. There's one app I've used, that usually lags on every device i.e. Tapatalk. It runs just fine on my X6.
Hopefully BL gets unlocked before updates cease.

I *LOVE* this phone!
Smooth... regularly updated... acceptable battery life... AndroidOne...
Yeah, missed the NFC ability a bit, but my other phones (two Sony Xperia's) have NFC, so I can use them instead for this particular use.
Besides, the only use I have for NFC is for checking the credit amount in my cash cards, so I don't exactly need NFC :cyclops:

I can consider myself lucky, then... there's no shortage of decent cases for this phone in Indonesia
So not only I purchased a nice-looking case, I also can get a "hydrogel" screen & back protector + a back camera oleophobic protector.
It's ok with Android 10 but it used to be amazing with Pie
I kind of regret having Android 10 update right now.
I miss little things in Pie like,
Decent battery time
Uninterrupted Bluetooth audio
No random reboots.
Face unlock feature
A working GCam app
I don't know whether anyone else experiencing these issues. But I honestly think Android 9 was a bit stable than 10.

No issue here ?

Will be fixed in a Future MR that's currently undergoing beta testing internally
Face unlock feature
Removed by Google Itself
A working GCam app
Same as Random reboots
I don't know whether anyone else experiencing these issues. But I honestly think Android 9 was a bit stable than 10.

But going back to pie without navigation gesture and dark mode would be boring.
I love this phone running smooth android 10 without any problem, Model TA-1116.
The anoying only can't unlock bootloader officially
Nice phone except 6 months after, the charging port is HS.

10/10 for its price, features and specs <3. (upgraded from Xiaomi MiMax 2)
(waiting for its andriod 10 update) <3
I used to love it, but started hating it from the bottom of my heart after it betrayed.
I was debloating it and after I rebooted, the lock screen started to blink with the lock icon just below the damn notch. There was no way to enter the password or provide fingerprint scan, a borderline soft brick. After researching, came to know that removal of one "com.coloros.weather.service" was somehow the culprit! UNREAL.
