It feels very good in hand, a bit slippery but the metal back is so cool! I much prefer over glass back (which i started to hate).
For a 5.5inch display it feels quite compact in hands, dou i prefer 5inch.
It's feels so much compact as is mentioned above really for 5.5" it's super. Also that feeling is hand is for me orgasm I just can't take it away from hand if I won't use cover so good it is.
Held vertically, the phone is great. It's definitely a two-handed phone, as my thumb on the hand holding the phone only reaches ~70% of the screen.
Horizontally, I find it way too easy to cover the speaker grille, muffling the sound from there.
It is a bit slippery and it has a sharp edge on the sides, which makes it a bit uncomfortable after you hold it horizontally for extended time.
The speaker location is not the best one, as I often accidentally cover it.
This is my biggest phone yet. Still trying to adapt to that. I would never use this phone without a cover. It's too slippery.
Well everything here is true. It is slippy and bit sharp on edges but still as my first post here it's orgasm giving feel (atleast for me) also you need sometimes use two hands or move your phone in one hand to reach top (for status bar) but since I have nova launcher I just swipe in middle of screen so status bar slide down so that's ok for me.
And in horizontal position well you cover you speaker but personaly it's not big deal even if they switched side with jack it would be much better.
The phone backside feels slippery, but i bought a tpu case for it so that it is alot better to keep in my hands than without. Holding the phone in landscape and watching videos needs to be learned because your finger covers the loudspeaker which affects the sound alot.
The buttons are placed where i usually want to have them. Comparing to LG g5 that has a button in the back, i just lay my finger on the homebutton which unlocks my phone.

I have had my Surface RT for a few months now and I can honestly say that the build quality of Surface RT is just solid - it feels like a slab of titanium or something. It doesn't get dents, it gives dents..to walls, tables etc.
Not that I think it is a problem, especially when compared to the competition, but I am not sure the precision of the build quite matches this great solidity. I am looking to do a little comparison so I am going to list all the little tiny misfits I could find on my Surface because I am wondering if these are common or just random.
1. The kickstand is not perfectly flush with the device when closed. And it sticks out a tiny bit more on the power connector side of the Surface.
2. The thin metal plate on the back above the kickstand doesn't seem to be flush with the case near the 3.5mm audio jack. Also, at the same side it seems a bit dent inwards on the corner where it meets the plastic strip (see attached photo).
3. The screen glass seems to go just a little bit deeper into the device right below the capacitive Windows button. It's mostly flush everywhere else.
4. The whole device seems a bit bent like a boomerang. I tried putting a ruler on the screen lengthways, and the middle of the screen didn't reach the ruler.
All of these things listed are barely noticeable.
Also, though the finish seems really tough, I think it might be a bit weaker near one of the corners where some grey metal spots started appearing.
I am not having any issues with the touch cover though you can easily tell it's been used just by looking at the bending place and the rubbery corners.
Despite all this I am confident that this is by far the most stunning piece of hardware I have ever seen, especially bearing in mind it's price.
I just got my second replacement. First one had a light leak in the middle of the screen. The second one that I just returned because of dead pixels was the worst in build quality, probably just a bad batch or unit. It had all the symptoms you describe above. In addition the volume rocker was asymmetric and (-) all the way down with almost no response to a press. All three had/have the thin metal plate at the camera not entirely flush with the rest towards the audio jack. This new unit I have is otherwise perfect. the kickstand is perfectly even, the buttons are all symmetric in response. Most importantly the screen on this is perfect, no dead pixels or light leaks (only the ones at the edge which are only visible in the dark). Very happy with this one.
If you live close to an MS store I'd take it in and ask nicely if the problems you see warrant a replacement. I did and had no issues with exchange.

I've had my G5 Plus for a little over a week now, coming off of two years with the Nexus 5X, and man, is it an adjustment.
For those of you who've never held a Nexus 5X, it's plastic-body and super light, meaning it's basically immune to the pull of gravity--I could rest it on a blanket at a 45 degree incline or hold it vertically in my hand with a loose grip, and it would stay put.
The G5 Plus, on the other hand, feels substantially heavier, and the metal case is extremely slippery by comparison. So far no large falls onto hard surfaces, but I've ordered one of those rugged grippy cases, because it's only a matter of time. Pro tip: the raised Motorola logo on the back of the phone is a great place to rest a finger for some added friction.
The G5 Plus also has a slightly bigger screen, making some operations challenging one-handed (YMMV depending on hand size).
That being said, the Nexus felt cheap (because it WAS cheap), and this phone absolutely does not.

pretty bad design, can't stop pressing the screen with my palm while holding the phone.
Phone slips out of hand too easily, and the navigation buttons? Because there's no lighting I've had instances where I randomly press parts of the screen just to tap the back button - especially in the dark
I use a bumper case but i don.t like order of navigation butons. Is more practical to press back in right side for me, not in left side like now.

I had this problem too, had to get a 3rd party app to give me onscreen display navigation buttons

Feels really good in the hand, even with a case. Top screen can be a bit hard to reach but I knew what I was getting into and love the design.
In fact, S8/+ feel much better in the hand
S9/+ has sharper edges and it is not too good

As a samsung fan I do not like this move from samsung even if it was to reduce screen cracks or strengthen the Aluminum

I agree with the comment above about it being a step backward from the S8+ in feel. The edges are a bit sharp (not "cut you" sharp but you can feel them) but that's just more motivation to use a case. It is so far my only complaint, other than it being virtually impossible to get super-slo-mo to work exactly when you want it to.
I'm coming from the Note 8 and I love how easier it is for me to handle it with one hand. You wouldn't think 4mm in height, 1mm in width and sliver thinner would make a difference, but in my case it does. The hardest adjustment for me has been the placement of the fingerprint scanner. I kept reaching up by the flash for it, lol.
Build quality feels really good in hand, but struggling to use it with one hand.
It's a solid device. Moving FROM s7 edge, I find s9+ a bit heavy and bulky. Well, getting used to the beast.

I wish that the FP sensor was a bit further away from the camera.
A bit heavy after a couple of hours of web surfing.
Got to be careful not to grab the B-Button when picking it up, or hit it while using the camera.
Gear VR is a reasonable weight, and worthwhile.
Included earphones could be more comfortable, considering their over $100 value.
I'm coming from an s7, and I'm off to using the home button to orient the phone in the dark. With it gone I struggle to get it the right way round, I'm sure I'll get used to it though.....

Coming from the S6 which was a lot less comfortable to hold than the S7, my S9+ feels really good in my normal sized hands. I can still one hand almost everything I do which was quite a surprise, even without the one hand mode.
im coming from s8 plus and yeah i was a little bit worried about the sharp edges, they was far more confy on my s8 plus than on the s9 plus, but anyways i will put case on it
Im coming from s7 edge. Hesitated about the FP position but my s7edge got smashed by a car so it was a bit more easy decision to make.
Phone feels solid, hate the Bixby button, wish it could be mapped to another function without openning Bixby first.
Intelligent Scan works quite well so I would miss the convinient FP on Home Button too much.
I'm In Vietnam, the phone shipped with a flex plastic clear cover inside the box. Nice.
I am giving 1 star for the ergonomics. It is incredibly slippery and difficult to hold compared to the S8/S8+. It is shocking because S8/S8+ was perhaps the most comfortable phones to hold for their sizes. The S9+'s frame is not flush with the back and front glasses which makes you feel like you are holding a wire. And the new matte coating makes even that middle frame more slippery. Overall the phone is incredibly uncomforatable to hold.
I don't know if anyone brought it up but I haven't had a single rejected fingerprint scan since I got the phone. It use to be a daily occurrence on my note 8, s8 plus, s7 edge etc...
currently on an OPX, i haven't really used the S9+ (still need to setup) but, i get the feeling using one handed means my finger may crush the pop socket. 1 handed use is absolutely paramount in today's world.
This may sound crazy, but hear me out.
Initially I was excited because the P5 was so light in comparison to other fat behemoth phones that are out there nowadays for it's onehanded usability. Now that I've been using it for a while and realizing that it's sort of fatiguing to use even at its size, I think I figured it out. The phone's center of mass is quite high. Above the middle of the phone when you're holding it. It always feels like it wants to backflip out of my hand.
I ended up taping a washer to the bottom side of the back of my case for some ballast to move the center of mass down. It really seems to help.
Juding by the teardowns of the phone, it seems like the battery is somewhat narrow and tall, instead of (nearly) the entire width of the phone at the bottom. I suspect that's the reason for why it feels off.

I can't say you're crazy but I find mine pretty well balanced. If I lay it across my finger, roughly in the middle of the phone it balances pretty good. I will say, I'm 6'4 with larger hands so perhaps in just holding it I'm holding more of the phone.... Unless you have larger hands as well.

My hands are pretty big too, I just find it weird. I really notice it with this phone. I had a OP6 before. Obviously that's bigger but I never really felt like it wanted to leap out of my hand. It was just kinda hard to hit the top left corner. Maybe I just hold my phone weird. Who knows.

I think it's the way you're holding it. I have my index finger under the phone, roughly in the middle and it's very well balanced top to bottom.
Me too. It seems pretty well balanced to me. I can put it across my finger pretty much central to the phone and it sits without toppling. I even have a tempered glass camera lens protector which would add a miniscule amount of weight to the top of the phone.
Coming from a OP 7T the Pixel 5 is wonderfully balanced in the hand, the 7t felt really top heavy thanks to is surfboard dimensions.
