Yes, the video on the S8 is horrible, the good news though, is that it can be fixed via software but the bad news is that you will void your warranty by customizing stuff.
Low light videos is very bad, slow autofocus in 60 fps so this mod is useless, stabilization is good but not in 4k
I found a good app for better video quality. " Cinema 4k". In its settings turn off the noise reDuction, and turn up the bitrateto 2ppmbps. On the main screen you can change the brightness via iso and shutter speed. Much better than the stock

Video quality: average. Compression artifacts are visible, 4K videos could be better, the Sony sensor and the CPU are capable, but the Camera software is generally average.

The standard video recording is pretty much the same like all the other flagship. But the hyped 960fps video recording is only useful in sunlight as far as I can tell. Useless at night and dark indoor environment which due to its capturing speed, it accidentally record the lighting flickers as well for those who use fluorescent.

Recording in 1080p and 4k shows significant lag, the 60fps options are better but the 4k with 60 fps has a stutter, present but less noticeable on 1080p with 60fps. Wish there was a way to get stable video recording. Pretty disappointed as I am using the stock app.
This is not good phone for recording movies. Not because hardware issues. The problem is with software and poor camera app.
There are no options for video recording. No focus, iso, white balance control. We cant change fps to 24/48/96fps. We can only use 30 and 60fps.
no matter how good the image quality of a smartphone can be, but never to the point of filming a movie with.

Video stabilization is very good even in low light. May get even better if super stabilization feature added in Colors os7

I whould say, for my experience, the camera is quite fine, but the unmodified one cant handle inside and outside light at the same time, for example, pointing camera at a window while inside, but the google camera fixes that issue, and at same time gives 4k 30 fps videos instead of 1080p 30 fps what is the best allowed on stock camera app.
