Location of where themes from the Samsung Theme Store are stored? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Does anyone know where official themes from the Samsung Theme store are located? And yes I am almost certain that root would be required so my phone is rooted.*
Basically I want to edit a certain theme from the Samsung Store using the Samsung Theme editor program which I will be able to do if I have the apk of the theme.

I think each icons of stock theme all in system app.
Where you get theme editor? And why you think you can edit apk by theme editor? I think the tool to edit theme apk is apk tool.

I got theme editor from https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/themes/unleash-creativity-download-samsung-t3478823
If I were to get the location of a official Samsung Theme which I have installed, I can edit it from Samsung theme editor because Samsung theme editor basically edits (or you can create your own) a apk theme. Yes I could use apktool but I could only use that if I knew where the theme was located. And I think apktool would be harder to use than Samsung theme editor because it is not specifically made to edit Samsung themes like the Samsung software is.

Create new is yes. Edit is no. You need project to open in it. Not apk

data/overlays/jsonfiles/userjson

That editor cannot open apk files, only .stp format are allowed which you cannot have unless you are the original creator of that theme, themes are located on data/app, it's devided into 4 different base app (wallpaper, home, appicon and the whole theme base apk)
Apktool is much better, that editor is so outdated and will cause alot of color glitches/bugs when trying it on an S8

the key is which folder. I'm trying to find the data folder for wallpaper I paid for. it isn't placed center, rather off-center and it's horrendous. I'm on Note 8 but need a clue which direction to go to find it. thanks.

[Q] Editing the default Background of SMS,Phone,Browser,Email?

Is there a possibility to edit the default backgrounds (blue, red, black, green Waves). I think its cool that it appears in stuff like the Settings Menu, the SMS App, the Phone and contacts app, the browser and the email app. So I like it better than havin all backgrounds black, but id rather like to use my own wallpaper, maybe a little darker, so that you can read everything.
Does anyone have a clue, which files i need to edit?

Great, I found this file and it has the backgrounds of the menus. I extracted it with Winrar and now what I have to do to place the backgrounds I want?
I guess edit it, name it like the old one and put it back in.. I'll try out myself.

Okay... ApkEdit lets me edit the apk, but when i try to push it to my device, im stuck. I can push other apps though, maybe i cant install system apks. Too bad APKEdit cant simply save the file, that i can install it myself. Anyone got an idea what to do???
Ok, managed to push it to the play. No changes :-(( too much work for nothing.

"Defaultthemes.apk" is a system app installer. I mean, you have this installer, yes, but you have already installed the old one. So if you only change the apk file it maybe there wont be any direct change unless you uninstall it and reinstall it.
Not sure, but it's the only thing I can supose.
Let's see if we can change the boring backrounds from SE.
Ok, I edited succesfully the .apk file, but as others says, when you go to install it the phone asks if you want to overwrite the files, you click yes and then it says that the file wasn't installed.
Any way to solve this?

You have to decompile each relevant APK and edit it. The Defaulthemes.apk doesn't affect any app.

I edited the apk directly with Winrar, without extracting it. But the problem is when you try to install it, first it asks if you want to overwrite the existing data but then it says the app wasn't installed.

Location of ICS background file?

My i9000 has a slight issue in displaying greys and the settings menu and any other app that uses it look awful on my phone.
All I want to know is the location the background is stored so I can change it to an all black background. I've asked this question in many different threads and no one had answered me yet. So many thanks to whoever tells me.

It will most probably be in framework-res.apk in /system/framework/
I'm not sure about ICS, but in my ancient version it's in framework-res.apk
/res/drawable-mdpi/default-wallpaper.png
You may have it in different screen resolutions.
Are you talking about the homescreen background?
You could always just do it the 'old fashioned' way..
Open paint (or similar)
Create a canvas the size of your phone resolution, paint all black. Save as a file and add to your phone. Change background using the menus and pick your black file.
Would probably take less time than pulling, inserting, and pushing framework-res. And you'd have the file on your sd card to re-apply should you do any updates (you'd need to modify framework-res again, unless the rom update didn't require changes and you could flash the old framework-res)

Oh! Then what you need is in /system/framework/framework-res.apk,
but the part you want is in /res/values/styles.xml
That has all the default theme, "Theme".
The theme for settings inherits off that, maybe "Theme.Dialog"
All of that references specific style elements and colors in /res/values/colors.xml

Decompile framework-res.apk using apktool then open the decompiled folder.
In res/drawable, most of the background XMLs are stored. Search for one that holds the background details. However, it won't be easy. I suggest u ask a recognized themer to help u, or use the UOT kitchen
Ok I've found the png file. It's in res/drawable-nodpi/background_holo_dark.png
An older version of the rom I'm using had an all black image, so I'll use that png file to replace the current one.
Now do I have to simply change the image to the all black one or is out more complicated than that?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
I've also found the xml in;
res/drawable/activated_background_holo_dark.xml
Will changing the line <item state_activated="true" to <item state_activated="false" disable the png file, forcing it to change to all black?

Now that u know where it is, take a black PNG and add it to the archive of framework-res so that u wont have to recompile and sign the apk. Just make sure u get the correct folder.
And don't touch the XML. Just replace the png

U can overwrite it using root explorer. However I use adb.
Use this command in adb
adb push C:\framework-res.apk /system/framework/
Assuming ur modified framework is in C:\
I know it's a bit late, but I finally managed to do it. The hardest thing was creating an update.zip to apply the change.
You could have just pushed it with adb.....

I tried that on a theme update.zip for my rom, it wouldn't let me edit the contents of the zip for some reason.
I used root explorer rather than adb and the phone rebooted straight away and wouldn't get past the boot screen...

I use a program called Batch Photo and run all png images through it before I build. I copy the pngs to the program, then I add the filter HUE. I set the values all to zero and run the batch. It cleans up any 9 png problems.

Any way to apply only part of a theme rather than whole thing?

Just wondering if its possible to just apply a part of a theme rather than the whole package? Like just the icons, or just the AOD?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Unfortunately, no. It's been this way since Samsung started offering themes, and so far no solution has been found
Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk
On a ported ROM for note 3 I used to uninstall the custom icons of the theme using the titanium backup Pro and used unicon to apply custom icons from the play store.
See how u can work with this info for your own convenience.
There is a way but you must know how to use apktool and have knowledge of what goes where. If unpack a theme store theme you will be able to say swap the lockscreen apk for another themes.
Edge of insanity
You can in fact disable parts of themes if you have root. For example if you want to keep stock keyboard theme and everything else be black, you need to find the apk for that portion of the theme and delete it after the complete them has been installed and reboot. Freezing them won't work.
You can use this tutorial to find the part of the theme that you do not want to apply. Hope this helps.

You can replace the icons for any app inside a theme without root. I mean the ones which are already in such theme. You don't even need a PC!
I have just moved to the s7 edge and I am temporarily unrooted and it took me something like 5 minutes to figure how to do it lol!
Apk extractor plus apk editor (the second one is a paid app) and the trick is done. Just extract the theme you need and replace the icons inside with your favorite ones. Just remember that png files must be renamed to qmg (just renamed, not converted). Recompile and install. Apply another theme and then apply the one you have just modded, that's all!
Weird nobody has shared a guide yet. If any of you appreciates it, I can share a detailed how to.
Apk editor is not compulsory, but it is one of the few paid apps I bought.

Easy : if you want for example not the icons of the theme : use ''Debloater'' search it on xda, kill ''Theme ... apicon'' and on your phone you can now see it in app, uninstall, reapply theme and that's all ^^
Hey bro have you managed to make the tutorial? As the previous poster said... Many would like to do the same. For example I'm looking for a way to rip icon pack from touchwiz theme. I don't know how.
The theme is called Grey_abstraction from guy called Alex pie. I like the theme but I love the icons but he does not have it in the theme store. Would you know how to do that?
I'm NOT rooted

Theme for 7.0 Nougat

While theme store is still empty, is there a way to download manually some theme for Galaxy S7 running last 7.0 beta?
Would also be interested in this. I saved the Material Dark theme with titanium backup but I can only apply it as a demo (seems to be a paid theme now?). Maybe someone can upload the Android N theme. It was super clean and also had all the N stock sounds.
Installing the APKs will work, but it only gives you the trial version of the theme, so you have to disable the theme store with a disabler to prevent it from switching back after 5 minutes. If you do find out where to find the themes to download, please let me know. I extracted the APKs for the material design theme from my mother's S6, but I'd really like a few more.

If you have root and root explorer you can also follow these steps. Worked for me.
How to install:
1. Start root browser or your preferred file manager
2. Go to /data/overlays/jsonfiles and move com.YOURTHEME.json from trialjson to userjson.
3. Delete the /data/overlays/preferences folder
4. Restart your phone
Here's another simple theme that works, but if you're not rooted you'll have to disable the 2 theme store apps to make it permanent.

Ok, so I just found out that if you've already downloaded or paid for a theme, it will actually let you download and install it!! The trick is that you need to find a link to the theme somewhere... I just downloaded 2 themes from KENDI and MINU that I've already bought and they worked perfectly! If you can get someone to send you a link to a theme you want, you will be able to use it.
Just found the link but i have galaxy S7 since friday and i have never bought a theme before...
Heare are some grace ux themes ITS TRAIL VERSION it means that you need a disabler for the theme to work.
Erm btw you could get debloater for it to work
That what i do, if u need debloater just GOOGLE
Hope this helps give a tumb up if it helps.
I have no root but I have package disabler, is enough for keep the theme on? What should I disable?
