Hi all, looked everywhere -- results seem to only display "how to root android."
My question is a bit different:
Is there a resource anyone can direct me to that shines some insight onto how to create a root for an android?
Nobody has come out with a root method for the LG Stylo 3 Plus yet, and Im wondering if it's worth going ahead and trying to make my own.
Similarly, is there a good resource that explains how to design your own ROM? Im a relative beginner at this, and I'd like to root my phone and then perhaps design some sort of OS for it in my spare time that I could maybe share with the community if it gets to that. Is this a good resource?
TIA
Same situation
I'll second that question, I'm trying to develop a root for the LG G5 H820 but I don't know exactly where to start. I figure it requires adb which is pretty much a given but that's about all I know. My second question would be that even if I were to find an exploit, how do I utilize it to give the user root? Thanks.

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an app on android market that flashes your phone for you? How about one that roots it? I'm have no idea if this is even possible, but it would sure be great, since there are a lot of non technical people out there who would really like to try all the new fancy roms around.
thanks
Rafa
There are apps like this, it really depends on what kind of phone you're using. What phone do you have?
Learn to be technical, not ask for handouts..
You think the experienced people here came right into coding an app? Get a how to manual or search google.. There's plenty of tutorials around that could help.. Not saying start a root app, but start with a soundboard our something..
We need more explorers on this site, not beggars.. But good luck in all your future endeavors..

its really easy to do it the legit way.
depending on what phone you have just go to unrevoked and read read read read then read some more i did mine all by myself in a couple hours. the first time around now i am able to root someones phone in less then 20 min. not a big deal once you learn the proper way to do things
teach a man to fish he eats his hole life. (or some **** like that)
Sadly here in Brazil things don't come as cheap as they do for other countries and an unlocked Galaxy S costs about 1000us$, so forgive me if I'm more than a bit iffy about starting to experiment with it.
Getting back to the point, I've read about Universal Androot, but it doesn't support the Galaxy S series.
Find z4 root right here on xda. It'll do it all for you in one click. From there you can get titanium backup and then rom manager. Go to the samsung captivate forum and read all the sticky threads in full. Be thorough and careful and make sure you know what you're doing.
That should take care of you.
Many thanks. Greatly appreciated.
There's a solid chance this is a stupid question, in which case feel free to ignore me entirely. I recently picked up a One X, and am crazy in love with the device. My only niggling issue is that all the new One X's at my local store are already at 2.20. And I am sad.
I've been doing a bit of Googling, and would like to at least attempt to learn a bit more about Android and what goes into trying to find a root process for this bad boy. I have little Android experience (user experience rooting my Captivate and the girlfriend's Galaxy S3 and flashing ROMs... so nothing likely pertinent to finding a loophole). And I have a ton of Linux experience (working as a sysadmin, though not 100% sure it'd beneficial to this, but I'm hoping).
Anyways, long post short, I was wondering if anyone here could help point me in the directions of some resources and/or things I could be doing/reading to learn what goes into the whole process and, possibly, so that I could help dedicate what little talents I have into helping out. Again, I know I have little to no Android experience, but I've tinkered with every device I own, and would like to at least try.

finding root is all about finding exploits in the write protection of the file system and injecting the su binary into /system
since you are experienced in linux you're in good shape. You may want to PM beaups and see what he's tried and bounce some ideas around we also have a root think tank thread in General. Welcome to the Cause!

Hey everyone. I just got this note pro today from Amazon. I've read about a lot of functionality you can get from rooting your device. The thing is I have no clue how to root a device. I've looked around the internet and to be quite honest I'm still not quite sure how to properly root the device. I was hoping someone could maybe point out or give me step by step instructions on how to root a device. Including making backups and the programs needed. I'm totally a noob in this and quite terrified of destroying a 685.00 dollar device. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to take the time out. The reason I'm rooting is because I want to get better battery life and be able to run any app in multiview mode. (Student who wants to go multiview with amazon ebooks and a note taking app)

I'm not sure which Internet your using.... you must not be looking very hard because your answer is in this very forum. In fact , there is a great big thread about it a few lines down. If after reading said thread you still have a question, I suggest asking IN that thread.
Every one here loves to help out, but you gotta put in at least a TINY bit of effort dude.

OK, so I've been doing some reading around the forums and obviously from what I have gathered there is currently no way to obtain WP off or BL unlock on 4.4.4 atleast not on SU6-7 or higher. Atleast I haven't seen any way so I'm assuming if a method does exist then its being closely guarded for now and not being released.
My question isn't about rather its possible or not, I'm sure there is probably a way just not one that has been found or is publicly available. My question is, assuming you did have an exploit that would allow you to remove the write protection how would you actually go about doing it?
I have some free time and access to a second unused Droid Maxx so I was considering poking around. Looking for exploits in software security is kind of a pass time hobby of mine and I have a little training from previous military training. I by no means am an expert but I figure it can't hurt to play around with the second phone that isn't being used (has problems with speaker not working etc). Anyway, I realized I need to learn a few things and can't seem to find any real info as I was reading around on the forums about how write protect off is actually achieved once an exploit gains access to do so.
Worst case scenario I learn a bit of useless info is the way I see it, kind of like reading an entire write up of how the motorola bootloader was being unlocked before they blocked the exploit in these phones. Doesn't help me but its information and I love to learn new things, even useless ones.
OK, so I guess nobody who knows cares to help me out. I was hoping to try and find a way to achieve write protect off again but its hard to find a valid exploit and method when I'm not sure what I need to do to turn off write protect. I am assuming its in the kernel somewhere as I can edit system the same way I rooted on 4.4.4 SU6-7. I don't know what needs to be changed or where its at though so not sure how to attack it. Would love some information, not asking for any other assistance.

All I now is that wp is set in the kernel of the phone, I think at least
From what I managed to learn the permanent off was achieved in aboot. I've moved on to exploring the tz kernel, figure if I'm going to spend hours deciphering binaries might as well go for bootloader unlock instead. Don't know if I'll find anything as I'm having to relearn assembly as I go also but who knows
So, I finally laid down the fat stack for an S7, and I went with Straight Talk because I'm not big on contracts. I was itching to throw a rom on it right away, but it looks like there is only one that may be compatible. I'd settle for root though and went about my research. Eventually, I settled on trying to follow this thread, as it seems to apply to pretty much any variant.
Now, my question is, if I were to follow this method and successfully obtain root, I know my phone will show up as a G930V, but will I still be able to use my Straight Talk service on it? Also, any other information pertaining to my situation would be much appreciated, in terms of root and any roms. I know most people say it's overrated nowadays, and mostly unnecessary, but I want to tinker and I like having complete freedom over my device.
Sorry if this has been posted before, but after many hours, I'm still a bit lost in the web of information. Two variants, and multiple carriers, two different boards, MM/Nougat, etc, etc. I'd just like a bit of clarification, thanks a ton!
EDIT
It would seem this thread is what I need to follow to obtain root. I'm still open to any thoughts or suggestions, but I guess my main question is will my Straight Talk account still work if I use this method?
Or would I be better off following this tutorial?
Thanks again!
Nothing huh, nobody knows, or even has an idea?
Hmm.

Yes, sometimes there is a paucity of folks knowing, and then being willing to respond. Hope you got it figured out.
