I like to see good old dialpad on my phone screen when I'm about to make a call.
Unfortunately Google decided that calling on the phone using numpad is a secondary feature but fortunately I work in a company that employs few Android developers and they did a 2 minute side project for me. The result is an app that launches dialpad within the stock phone app so that I can replace the phone icon on my home screen with the one that takes me direct to good old phone interface. (icon is labeled "Call")
I have tested the app on my Nexus 5 with both Android version. 4.4.4 and 5.0 and it seems to work fine.
Probably I'm not the only one who misses the old phone interface but who would like to keep using the stock dialer app, so i decided to share what I got for fixing it

Update 04.08.2016
Sorry for not keeping this thread up to date but i have posted the app to Play Store ages ago.
I can't post links but search for "Classic Dialer for Lollipop" in Play store.
Update 07.11.2016
Changed the name of the app in Play Store to plain and simple "Dialpad".

Thank you so much for this! I can't believe this did not receive more attention. Works great on Slim 4.4.4. :good:

No, you are not the only one. I really hated it when I first tried KitKat and Lollipop, and the numpad / digits would not show right away. Thank you for sharing this with everyone, it works great on Lollipop. :good:
I believe this still exists in Marshmallow. Google should really make this an option in the default app. The current behavior does not work for everyone and not everyone will find your app (or even bother looking).
5.0, 5.01, 6.x confirmed!
So...months have gone by with this annoyance... I'm running CM13, Android M.. like the other guy said, I cannot believe this app hasn't gained more attention. I have found that some of this is due to the wording of the issue at hand...kept getting alternative dialer apps in my results....BLASPHEMY... So..yeah.. So everyone knows, this also works with not only the stock dialer, but Dialer for Hangouts as well as Skype.
Too bad I can only hit "THANKS" once...
Thank you.
How to install DialerLauncher?
How to install DialerLauncher?
Newbe
with no intention to hijack your great contriubtion:
there's an xposed module that does the same thing with native app>> show dialpad
where were you before i found out this one?!
i'm sure most of the people don't want to mess with xposed, like myself, and will appreciate the provided solution(s)....
:good:
A Little Added Information...
It works very well under Nougat also. :good: Use the back button to access the recent's list.
This works on Marshmallow, if someone's wondering.
Ran across this thread trying to find a solution for the same problem. Having had a look at the linked app, I realized it was just sending some kind of intent that caused the phone app to open to the dialpad. Long story short, the Tasker "Call" action (with no phone number specified) does the same thing, so if you have Tasker, you can just create a shortcut to a task with that one action.
Well done! Thank you!
I DLed, from Play Store, following the link in the OP.
No more favorites page, when opening dialer! If you do want the favorites page, just hit the back button after opening dialer.
After a reboot it still opens the dial pad!
Using on the Moto Dialer app on Moto Z2 Play.
GREAT! GREAT! GREAT!
Works on motor 4 on 7.1.1 thanks for this
Still works on Stock Nougat. Thanks.
Awesome! Thanks so much. Just what I was looking for! ??

Thank you so much. I have been trying to implement this for yearsss. Failed everytime up until today. Now i can swipe and hold the back gesture and the dial pad emerges Thanks!
There used to be an important edge panel called as priority callers or contacts.. But after marshmallow update thats gone! Only priority senders panel to send messages in one click is there but the very much used priority callers to call important contacts in one tap is gone! Do u also experience that? Any way we can get it?
Yes it's gone, at least on 915G.
Not only that, the app Call Log for Note Edge no longer works. Have no idea why Samsung did this stupid thing.
Haven't been able to find a workaround. Tried shortcuts to direct dial, Tasker etc etc.
For now have just got the app Quick Shortcuts for Edge and made shortcuts to the contacts. It's an extra step and doesn't use the edge properly, but not much choice.
Also, Edge Task Manager is gone, though you can download the apk from the Edge apps thread in this forum.

1. Folder in home screen. Do they really had to add that + sign inside the folder? Galaxy S6 did not have this. Whoever designed the folder and added a big fat + sign should get their head checked out. If I have 2 icons in one folder, there's a third button with a big fat + sign wasting space and distracting the user. Sure, different luncher will fix it but at what cost ($ or battery life from other bugs). The underlying thing for the UI doesn't change though. I also tried Samsung's other UI which you can download (GoodLock app) in their own app store, but that doesn't go well with the overall UI. ---> this is fixed in Nougat.
2. Bouncing effect in S-Health and other places. When I open S-Health to record my weight and scroll through the numbers, it's very hard to get it to stop on the place I want it to be because there's some stupid elastic bouncing back kicking and fourth effect on the dial. It moves for a while even after I let it go. I really hate this behavior and wonder whoever designed it had in mind. The person responsible should do something else for a living, and not be involved in designing user interface.
3. [edit: this one is treatable by changing Setting - Applications - Default applications - Default app selection] Default apps selection. Once you select an app, that becomes the default forever. Yeah, you can reset it by clearing the default, but I wish Samsung hadn't touched this behavior so I can choose to do it once "only for this time" or keep it as default.
4. User should be able to disable Samsung Calendar without 3rd party app, root, or adb. I find Samsung Calendar worse than stock Google's Calendar app so I use Google's Calendar app. Now why do I have to keep both if I'm not using it? So much for making TouchWiz lean. These apps should be uninstallable, or at least disable-able.
5. Every time I switch Auto Sync from quick settings pull-down, I get a warning message and must confirm that I will not get notifications about some apps and battery saving blablabla. It's almost ridiculous they did not add an option such as "Do not show again". This goes same for some other switches too. I think they fixed some such as the mobile data icon, or it may be a Verizon specific thing (as I'm using 935U). In the past you get a warning something in the line of "you won't have access to YouTube videos" and such stupid popup message.
6. High Volume warning. Every time, or once you reboot, or maybe every 24 hours this warning resets and comes back. I don't listen to music that loud but sometimes depending on what you connect you need to adjust the volume over 100% level. This stupid warning shows up and it won't let you go on unless you press OK. That's really stupid. I hate you whoever designed these this way.
I currently have a Verizon S7 Edge, with the latest 935U ROM stock, non-rooted. Because I hated how TouchWiz displays icon collection of folders, I was using NovaLauncher Prime for a while but went back because Nova Launcher caused more battery drain than TouchWiz. I turned off S-Health because it also causes some battery drain, and don't like to use it because the stupid scrolling kick bouncing effect. I tried iPhone SE for couple months, and it's so much more refined but I came back to S7 Edge because the better camera (even though it's artificially over sharpened) and for the file management ability.
I thought these annoyances would be fixed over time, but no, it's been almost 10 months since I got this phone and nothing has changed.

Because it has the best camera and some other hardware advantages. I like the water resistant feature, expandable storage, SamsungPay. Also, there was a $400 rebate when I bought this using a device payment plan. I paid it off the next day and closed the account with Verizon. So that's how I ended up with my S7 Edge.
Oh, and I heard Samsung was making TouchWiz leaner with less bloat, I think this was part of their promises from S6 days.
If you don't like TouchWiz why don't you switch back to Nova or Apex launcher?
Just use nova/apex/google launcher
As for your number 3 problem
You can change that behaviour in setting>applications>default applications
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Nova is the best launcher.
Woah, you sound agitated!
As for problem one, switch launcher. Problem two, three and four, that's just how Samsung has designed Touchwiz, there are plenty of other great phones with great software and components as camera (Pixel/iPhone) and water resistance (iPhone 7(pro)). As for the expandable storage, buy yourself an OTG cable and any USB stick! Hope to have helped you
Wait for Nougat. Not sure if you have tried/seen the beta, but it's :good:
I never ever used TouchWiz as a launcher. Nova from the start, and i never missed anything.
You should realize that every phone you will ever have is going to have something you won't like. And those things you counted can easily be fixed.
Running a Nougat Beta rom and i'm loving it. (TouchWiz was good too). I like it better then Stock Android.
Touchwiz is more than just a Launcher it's an integral part of the system.
If one doesn't like Touchwiz buy an LG or Pixel or a OnePlus3

just got the s7 Edge today, will be delivered in a few days. I have a few questions about TouchWiz. Is the 'theme engine' thing really that good? Does it change Touchwiz that much depending on the theme used? I love Nova Launcher, so i'm wondering if i use it, will i be able to Theme my phone at the same time...

The theme engine doesn't just change your icons, but changes the UI (menu, dialer, messages, quick settings, etc)
I really like it. Be warned, there are a ton of themes and probably only a small fraction of them are good, but the good ones are pretty fantastic.
Here are a few to try when you get the phone.

This mod has been created for ROMs that are as close to stock as possible. When I had my S7, it was specifically tested on SuperStock ROM. Please be aware that this mod may not be compatible with ROMs that offer extensive ROM Control (customisation) options.
Important update
I am no longer in possession of my S7 Edge as I have upgraded to an S8. If this mod remains popular then I will do my best to provide updates for it, however they will not be as frequent. I am fully reliant on you guys for testing as I don’t have a rooted device now to even test the install scripts (syntax errors), let alone the app updates. Thanks for your understanding!
ROOT USERS ONLY
If you are not currently rooted and are considering rooting in order to flash this zip, I’d strongly advise against it. You will likely lose more than you will gain (knox 0x1, secure folder broken, s health restrictions etc). If you are rooted, give it a try! Just don't forget to take a backup first as this is a new project and sometimes things are a little unpredictable across different ROMs / bases.
Please make sure to take a full TWRP backup before flashing this mod.
Help me make this better!
All feedback is appreciated. Even if you just want to stop by to say thanks, it'd go a long way

Changelog
V2.2: AQG5 files extracted from firmware and repacked (as opposed to copying from my S8). Updated S7 files to DQFM.
V2.1: Added Bixby although this hasn't been tested. S8 apps and system apps updated to AQG5. S7 AOD, Camera and Settings updated to DQFM. Calculator, Email, S Health, Voice Recorder updated separately through APK Mirror to the latest version available for my S8.
V2.0: Selected S7 & S8 files updated to DQF7/AQF7. Selection of base files including contacts, calculator, calendar etc. updated with newer versions from APKMirror. Phone apks (e.g. SamsungInCallUI) will remain as the base versions as updating them manually seems to cause fcs. SecSettings2 and SamsungCamera6 (S8 icons) updated with versions from the new bases. Also moved these to a specific ‘mods’ folder to prevent errors by myself in future.
V1.9.9: Fixed AOD select boxes. Sorry!
V1.9.8: Updated Device Maintenance, Photo Editor, Messages, Gallery, TouchwizHome. Added Samsung TTS, Voice Assistant. Altered Aroma progress bar. S7/S8 AOD is now a select option with S7 selected by default. Made wiping cache / dalvik cache optional. Spread Aroma options over multiple pages.
V1.9.7: Removed S-Voice rollback as no longer necessary. Re-did Settings and Camera apks. Added options for S8 AOD and S7 AOD (revert purposes), Re-added Smart Select although it only installs now with the S8 AOD selection. Moved fixes section to the start of the upgrade script.
V1.9.6: Added updated S Voice & S Music. Removed Smart Select Edge and Clipboard Edge as they don't currently work without further modifications. These will uninstall as part of the install process Thanks to @EasyAndroidPro for reporting the issue w/ Clipboard Edge.
V1.9.5: Updated Edge Panel, Finder, Messaging, MmsService, MsgCommService, Smart Manager, TouchWiz, Samsung Calendar, Video Editor Lite, Weather, Weather Widget.
V1.9.4: Categorised Aroma to make it a little easier to make selections. Added Slow Motion. Added remaining different qmg/bmp files from SamsungCamera7 to SamsungCamera6 (rather than just icon). Added further S8 media files (ringtones, notifications etc).
V1.9.3: Existing users of V1.9.2 do not need to upgrade. Improved the unlock unit conversion method to improve compatibility and reduce likelyhood of issues cropping up. More details.
V1.9.2: Fixed S Voice. Added S8 Boot/Shutdown animations. 'Fixes' folder deodexed to prevent issues.
V1.91: Fixed install script to remove old contacts folder (SamsungContacts80), Downgrade S Voice, Deodexed Settings and Camera to resolve fcs.
V1.9: Modified Settings to use S8 icon. Added S8 Samsung Keyboard ( @robhug ). Other small fixes and improvements to update script. Renamed project to something more suitable.
V1.8: Added Samsung Notes, Memo, S8 fonts, further edge panel options, scroll capture, Story / video editors, Removed calc unit conversion restriction. More that I can't remember.
V1.7 - Camera properly fixed (hopefully!!). Added S8 Apps Edge Panel.
V1.6_OTA1: Included cameradata folder, as well as /vendor/lib(+64)/libsecimaging.so libs. Hopefully this should stop fcs by people on other bases.
V1.6: Altered Aroma progress bar. Updated Clock, Contacts, Phone (incallui), Touchwiz. Added Finder v7.
V1.5: Merged 1.4.1 + 1.4.1 OTA 1 and implemented Aroma. Fixed voice recorder in install script and added SmartManager_v5 / SmartManager_v5_DeviceSecurity.
V1.4.1: Added S8 Camera icons (request of @robhug).
V1.4: Removed Samsung Video Player from zip all-together as it could cause fcs in older firmware.
V1.3: Rolled back Samsung Video Player to S7 version to fix video casting.
V1.2: Fixed Places.
V1.1: Added Contacts, Phone ** Places not working.
V1: Initial Release.

Being completely honest mate, I'm not sure... I wouldn't have thought so as I can't imagine carriers would have specific contact and phone APKs on the S8 (although I could be wrong). If anything, you'd just need to make sure you were just using the correct CSC for your carrier. E.g. I have to use a BTU or EVR CSC to get my Wi-Fi calling working, but that's a carrier requirement it would seem (and that applies to the S7 phone app too).
I have only been able to test this on my UK S7E on EE (BTU firmware) and I have yet to receive any feedback good or back as to whether it works properly for people on different devices (e.g. S7, S7E) or different carriers.
If you are willing to give it a try, I'd recommend a full TWRP just in case.. At least if they don't work out for you, you can immediately put your phone straight back to how it was before flashing the zip.
V1.3 Uploading - Rolling back Samsung Video Player to S7 version. Issues with casting. Starting messing with /system/framework/allshare.jar but not worth the time/effort. Newer version lets video player cast but not music player and the opposite is true of the older version.
Edit: V1.3 is live in OP. Apologies for that... didn't foresee the video issue.

Thanks for the feedback and I'm sorry that you had issues. I'll see what I can find out. I've adjusted the instructions to include a full TWRP backup.

Thanks again
Edit: I just flashed Superman Rom with super kernel and on my device it works, minus the places feature in the phone app.. Otherwise fine. If you could also confirm your phone model and even a logcat if you had time I'd be eternally grateful.
Comes with aroma installer? So we can choose apk that we want only
#Plus the kernel etc etc, will become a cusrom. Let's bro, I'm so glad
It doesn't at the moment mate but that's a fantastic idea.
I'll work on that soon. Have a busy day ahead of me today but I'll look into aroma very soon.
Would you mind testing this version at all for me? Just full backup and restore when done if you like? I'm trying to get an idea of who this is actually working for.. Other than myself lol
---
Edit: V1.4 uploading to remove stock DQD7 Samsung Video Player from zip... just in case anybody is on an older firmware as it could cause fcs.
Please let me know if you have a successful install people and for what device and CSC version. No bragging rights, just want to know if it doesn't work for some of you guys. Can only test myself on my G935F.

I think it's more likely linked to the CSC mate as it works for me when using the latest BTU CSC (see attached), but not for the CSC flashed by the selection utility. Maybe even Kernel related. Will do some experimenting later.

So great, like you it's not really the s8 features that I love but the new design and icons
Thanks a lot just a question, there is no FC on gallery , like when we download new s8 gallery from apk mirror ?
And a little thing that would be great, but not sure if it's possible, to add the s7 camera, just the stock one but just with the new s8 icon?
Thanks and have a nice day

So great, like you it's not really the s8 features that I love but the new design and icons

No there is no fc on the gallery atm as I have yet to include the newer photo editor APKs, so they don't show any updates on the galaxy app store. There were fixes available for the S8 photo editor but as I say, one of the things I've not got to yet. Open to requests as it's hard to think of other things to bring across lol.
Will investigate the icon for the camera

NOTE: Samsung has confirmed the Android Pie update for Galaxy J7 (2017), so you'll get all Pie apps when the update is completed.
This post will no longer be updated since I'm not using this device anymore.
You can still try to update the compatible apps to newer versions if they are available (maybe they could work).
Don't expect incompatible apps to install in the future, unless until the Pie update.
All apps listed are installable as normal apks, without needing root or recovery.
Compatible apps:
Samsung Internet Browser 9.0.01.45 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...msung-internet-for-android-9-0-01-45-release/
Some previous versions had a bug and couldn't download anything properly, but it has been fixed in this version
Samsung Notes 3.0.00.102 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...msung-notes/samsung-notes-3-0-00-102-release/
Samsung Email 6.0.00.63 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...amsung-email/samsung-email-6-0-00-63-release/
Samsung Calculator 10.0.00.37 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...amsung/calculator-samsung-10-0-00-37-release/
Samsung Health 6.1.2.025 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/s-health/s-health-6-1-2-025-release/
Samsung Themes 4.2.31.81220 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...g-themes/samsung-themes-4-2-31-81220-release/
Samsung Voice Recorder 21.1.00.51 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...er/samsung-voice-recorder-21-1-00-51-release/
Working apps, but can't be installed directly:
Samsung Experience Home 10.0.00.55 beta - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...rience-home-touchwiz-home-10-0-00-55-release/
You'll need to clone the app (read notes below), install the cloned app AND SET IT AS THE DEFAULT LAUNCHER (if this is not done it won't work). It may crash sometimes.
Incompatible apps:
Samsung Gallery
Samsung Messages
Samsung Phone
Always On Display
Samsung Game Launcher
Samsung Calendar
Samsung Finder
To clone an app:
You'll need to install App Cloner: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/applisto/app-cloner/
Open App Cloner.
Go to the folder icon on the top left corner.
Click on the round + icon that has appeared on the bottom right corner and select "From a file".
Find the APK you donwloaded and open it. It may take a few minutes.
Once it is open, click the tick (✓) icon and wait a couple of minutes.
Install the app.
This process doesn't mean that you can install anything. If the app is not compatible due to the architecture or Android version required, or the cloned app crashes, you can't make anything to solve it.

This post will be updated with the new apps that are uploaded to APKMirror, telling if they are compatible or not. If you find any mistake in the list, let me know and I'll fix it. The apps have been tested without root in Android 8.1 stock version.
These colors are used to distinguish the apps:
Compatible apps
Incompatible apps
Installable apps but with errors (more info at the end)
Samsung Experience Home
Newer versions are only compatible with Android 9 or later, so they won't be listed here.
10.0.00.55 beta - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...rience-home-touchwiz-home-10-0-00-55-release/
Samsung Notes
3.0.00.49 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...amsung-notes/samsung-notes-3-0-00-49-release/
Samsung Voice Recorder
21.1.00.25 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...er/samsung-voice-recorder-21-1-00-25-release/
Samsung Calculator
10.0.00.15 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...amsung/calculator-samsung-10-0-00-15-release/
Samsung Email
6.0.00.33 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...amsung-email/samsung-email-6-0-00-33-release/
Samsung Internet Browser
9.0.01.4 beta - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...amsung-internet-for-android-9-0-01-4-release/
It may be compatible if you uninstall updates first, I haven't tried it yet
9.0.00.44 beta - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...msung-internet-for-android-9-0-00-44-release/
Maybe you'll need to uninstall updates before intalling it
Samsung Health
6.1.2.005 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/s-health/s-health-6-1-2-005-release/
6.1.2.003 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/s-health/s-health-6-1-2-003-release/
Samsung Messages
10.0.00.27 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...messages/samsung-messages-10-0-00-27-release/
10.0.00.23 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...messages/samsung-messages-10-0-00-23-release/
To be compatible, it needs to be the "universal" variant in APKMirror, not "arm64-v8a + armeabi-v7a"
Always On Display
4.0.57 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...-on-display/always-on-display-4-0-57-release/

Samsung Calendar
10.0.00.34 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...sung-2/calendar-samsung-2-10-0-00-34-release/
Incompatible architecture
Samsung Finder
9.0.18 - https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsung-electronics-co-ltd/finder/finder-9-0-18-release/
This app usually can't be updated manually
Installable apps but with errors
Samsung Game Launcher 3.5.07.1
Installable if the app is cloned with App Cloner, but it doesn't show any game, even adding it manually, so it is useless.
Samsung Experience Home 10.0.00.55 beta
Installable if the app is cloned with App Cloner, but you must to set it as the default launcher, otherwise it will crash. It could also have some bugs with some widgets.
To clone an app:
App Cloner has been removed from Play store, but you here you have the latest version: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/applisto/app-cloner/app-cloner-1-5-9-release/
Open App Cloner
Go to the folder icon on the upper left corner
Click on the round + icon on the bottom right corner and select "From a file"
Search the APK you donwloaded and open it. It will take a few minutes
Once it is open, click the tick icon and wait a couple of minutes
Install the app
This process doesn't mean that you can install anything. If the app is not compatible or its clon crashes, you can't make anything to solve it.

Samsung Notes and Samsung Email works fine on 7.0 stock rom, but the Samsung Email is a bit downscaled.

Yes, if the app is compatible with previous versions of Android it can also be installed on Nougat.
PS: don't reply to the main post, it's too long
Anyway, thanks for your comment

Tried always on and samsung experience home and both did not install
Samsung home experience
Hello all
I have installed Samsung home experience 10.0.00.55
By Appcloner and I made it the default app for my device so far I have not had any problem except that the shortcuts on the home screen (below) are without names. The option to hide the application when you press and hold an application that has not been added.
-Added option (app info) again (not in version Oreo 8.1 and found in Nougat version 7.0)
-The rotation of the home screen works well except that the icons when turning (landscape) are small and inappropriate.
Note: My device is j730f Oreo 8.1
Finally: Thank you very much (danimanz98)

Always On is not compatible, and Samsung Experience Home needs to be cloned.

You're welcome
And maybe you cannot select the Samsung Weather widgets, they are only available in the original launcher (cloning an app makes it different for Android).
