[GUIDE] Changing p2c72 to p2a42 and flashing custom ROMs - Lenovo P2 Guides, News, & Discussion

There are currently 2 variants of the Lenovo P2, p2a42 (32GB, global version) and p2c72 (64GB, china version).
The p2c72 is slightly different, enough to cause confusion among people who have just bought it.
There are a few scattered threads asking about the p2c72. This thread aims to bring together all that info.
It will also list down which ROMs are safe to flash for the p2c72 without bootloop.
Changing p2c72 to the p2a42 (english) ROM.
Yes, this is possible and easily done. Bootloader unlock is not needed.
a) If you're lucky, the seller will have changed the ROM for you to p2a42. (Confirmed to be true with all Gearbest and Banggood purchases. I recommend you just purchase from here. Don't forget to use vouchers.)
b) If the phone you get still has the p2c72 ROM, try placing a non-china sim and rebooting. It will ask you to update and then reboot. You should now have the p2a42 ROM.
c) If (b) doesn't work, you will have to flash the p2a42 ROM through lenovo stock recovery: (this is based on the experience of lmcdermo)
1) Download the nougat TWRP file from http://www.stechguide.com/install-android-7-0-nougat-firmware-on-lenovo-p2/
2) Save it on your phone (internal sd card) as update.zip
3) Power off your phone. Boot into recovery by holding down "Volume Up + Power Button". The moment it boots, keep holding "Volume Up" but release "Power Button".
4) It should now boot to lenovo stock recovery
5) Click "Install Update Package" and select "update.zip"
6) Wait a few minutes for it to finish installing. When done, reboot.
7) If there are any issues, go back to recovery and wipe cache.
d) If (c) still doesn't work, you will have to flash the p2a42 ROM through fastboot. Be advised that numerous users without bootloader unlock have mentioned that this method gives bootloops. However, it should work fine for those with bootloader unlock to unbrick their phones.
1) Download the stock ROM file http://www.mediafire.com/file/mm9b6hlwbaxpdnj/P2a42_S048_161111_ROW_fastboot_Lodd.7z and extract it. It includes minimal adb and drivers.
2) Install minimal ADB and fastboot.
3) Install all 3 drivers (outside of the SW folder).
4) Then move all the files in folder SW to the minimal adb folder. It should be at 'C:\Program Files (X86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot'.
5) Power off your phone. Boot into fastboot by holding down "Volume Down + Power Button". Connect phone to computer.
6) Run minimal adb and type 'fastboot devices' to confirm it's connected.
7) Then type 'flashall'. This will run the included flashall.bat file (which you copied over from the SW folder)
8) Wait a few minutes for it to finish flashing. When done, type 'fastboot reboot'
Unlocking Bootloader & Installing TWRP
You can install TWRP the same way as you would for a p2a42 phone.

Team Win Recovery Project 3.1.1-1
[*]Extract/ install adb & fastboot to your computer.
[*]Download TWRP for Lenovo P2 (P2a42).
[*]In your ROM, go to Settings -> About device. Tap 8 times on Build number to enable Developer options.
[*]Now go to Settings -> Developer options. (above About device)
You need to enable OEM unlock, otherwise you might end up with boot problems or be unable to flash later on.
Once you tap the unlock the bootloader it will ask you to formally submit the request, when you accepted the void warranty thing you will have to wait 14 days.
[*] After 14 days . Reboot your device into fastboot mode. To do this, select reboot from the power menu and hold the [Volume Down] + [Power] buttons while your device reboots or boots from power off.
[*]Once you're in fastboot mode, you need to unlock your bootloader. To do this, run this command:
fastboot oem unlock
WARNING: Unlocking your bootloader will erase all userdata on the device! Your device will be completely reset to factory defaults!
[*]Once your bootloader is unlocked, you're ready to flash TWRP. To do this, run these commands in order:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot boot twrp.img
[*]At this point, you will reach the screen asking you if you want to allow system modifications.
By swiping right, you will trigger system modifications for TWRP and TWRP will be installed permanently!
If you are going to root your device and follow the rest of these steps, then it is safe to swipe right and enable modifications.
[*]If your device asks for a password to mount internal storage, and your password doesn't work or you haven't set one, see below under known issues for a fix!

Getting Root
(to be expanded..)
You can obtain root the same way as you would for a p2a42 phone.
1) From TWRP change File System of the "data" partition to EXT4 format
2) Download either supersu or magisk. Install.
3) Boot your ROM and install SuperSU or Magisk Manager (respectively)
Safe ROMs to flash
1. TWRP v3.1.1-0 (not a ROM, but important to have)
2. Lineage OS 14.1
3. Resurrection Remix v5.8.3
ROMs above verified by me. Wmateria and Billytromp have also gotten TWRP and custom ROMs to work on p2c72.
This will be updated as we go.
Edit: Added method to flash p2a42 from stock recovery. Fastboot method has been reported to cause bootloops when bootloader is locked.

i will test it when i will receive my P2c72 phone from banggood.
gearbest is selling a p2a42 version with 64gb and without band 20. SO I SUPPOSE they are declaring a FALSE information, writing p2a42 because i 've never seen a p2a42 with 64gb !!!
the most important thing to me is to flash resurrection rom.. i love it and i NEED IT

Banggood are doing an offer on p2, 172.28 with code lenovop2, in case anybody is interested.

Does the global version have any extra bands or something? I'm asking because I live in the US, and I'm going to buy one the the china models.

Damn, that's really nice. Just tested it out at checkout and can confirm the code still works. I paid 270 for mine, so this is 30% cheaper.
Edit: Just found out that Gearbest is also doing a flash sale. £177, 5 pounds higher, but they have stock and will ship immediately. Banggood is on preorder. If anyone is interested.

As far as I know the main difference is that global has band 20 for 4G. I don't know if your network provider uses that for 4G, you'll have to check. For myself, it doesn't make a difference as I always turn off 4G and use 3G anyway. The other difference is that the global version only has a max 32GB of storage (unless you add an external sd card). Those are the only differences I'm aware of. In my opinion it's worth buying the china version for the extra internal storage.

What a great source of useful information here, thanks.
I am looking at buying the P2 64GB C72 Version, I am attracted by the higher memory and much lower price.
I would like to modify to get Band 28 for 700Mhz, one of our 4G bands in Oz.
Can you just confirm, again......, 'once more for the dummies', that access to the extra global bands is the only difference.
And, also that a person with good comprehension and logic skills would be able to perform the modification that you have created.

Hi just some info for you i am also quite a fan of the RR rom i have used it on other phones but on the p2 their are a few things that might make you not like it. 1 the earpiece vol is quite low compared to stock rom and becomes annoying after a while. 2 Although fingerprint unlock works fine the fingerprint gestures will not work for going back etc.. and 3 Volte iff you require that does not work either. All of the above bugs are present in all the custom roms available to date for the P2 because i have tried them all and decided to go back to stock deodexed rom on which everything works. Hopefully i will save you some time. As far as the phone goes it is an excellent phone in every aspect.

P2C72 Bootloader unlock user ,failed can not start the card white screen

i received my p2c72 from banggood but the software shows p2a42...... i think they flashed it manually.
But the strange thing is that it's on MM an does not find any OTA.......

I'm waiting for another P2 from Banggood.
If you investigate how to upgrade to version 7.0, please write it.
Maybe they have not flashed the original ROM ROW and what they have done is manipulate the chinese ROM.

You can either continue trying to get the OTA update or you can download the Nougat ROM and flash the system, boot, recovery images using fastboot.
Try playing a couple of videos from you local storage and from youtube and see if the audio and video are not in sync. If audio/video are in sync, I don't see what you need to bother to get Nougat. Nougat and MM are almost identical from a user's perspective.

do u also have a c72 hardware arrived flashed with a42 software?
i don't know hot to start modding this phone... should i use this twrp ? https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...covery-unofficial-twrp-lenovo-p2-3-0-t3533659
i've read that this recovery is JUST FOR A42 phone..... is it true? i only need to flash a twrp then i am able to choose a custom rom and flash it, it is easy.

My phone was bought in the Uk at 3 shop with p2a42 international software it is the 32gb variant. I believe you need to first convert the rom to the p2a42 variant their are guides on this forum on how to do that and then u can flash a recovery and root etc.

Do you want to update to official Nougat or do you want to install custom ROMS ?
1. If you want to install official Nougat, follow this.
2. If you want to run custom ROMs, you need to unlock your bootloader first. This process takes 14 days.

i want a custom rom, ok i will wait 14 days i see the countdown on my phone... but the more risky part is to flash THE RIGHT TWRP for my c72 hardware ( but with a42 software inside). i've read that the twrp here on xda is ONLY for a42...... so what should c72 users flash?

That's why I stopped responding to him.

I've ordered my P2 from Gearbest (for 185€) and today upon receiving the unit I got a nice surprise.
As we all know (and is stated on the product page) they are selling the p2c72 with the p2a42 software. They say that it cannot be updated to nougat but that is incorrect.
As soon as the first boot it prompts a OTA upgrade within Marshmallow (S048 to S062) and after rebooting it shows the OTA upgrade to Nougat (S233) and after a quite fast upgrade (90 seconds?) it shows another OTA (this time to s244).
I thought I had to manually do the upgrade https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p2/how-to/guide-upgrade-p2c72-a42-to-nougat-ver-t3653596 before receiving the phone.
This is without a doubt a p2c72 (stated on the back sticker and the front sticker has plenty of Chinese ). Has anyone had this luck before?

Almost everyone that buys a c72 comes with a a42 firmware when they buy from Banggood, GearBest, and alibaba.
When did you buy it because I don't see the price at 185€ today?

Problem with TWRP Recovery v3.1.1 on my Samsung SM-j701M

Hello there
I bought a Samsung J7 Neo (SM -J701M) on another country than mine (Im from Argentina, device bought on Paraguay). Anyway, I started to look another way to get some space on the internal storage and I remember that android had an option to expand it, using a SD Card. Unfortunately, i realize this option is not allowed on samsungs device, but it works (i read it, because can't do it) if you get root user.
So I looked how to do it and i found a group of files
ODIN v3.12
Magisk v.14.5
twrp v.3.1.1 -j7 neo
Im not sure if I downloaded the right files, but im start the process anyway.
I followed point by point
First I installed TWRP Recovery v3.1.1 (which is supposed to be correct to my model) and then already on twrp rom I installed magisk 14.5 from sd card and did wipe data.
Turned on the phone and I restored all apps from a google backups, and I realized I cant find app "Magisk" on the device, so I decided to reboot the phone and it starts to do a bootloop with this error "kernel rev. check fail, device:2 binary:1"
At this point, I failed every attempt to fix this error
I tried installing the last official firmware that i found (and Im not sure if its the correct one)
J701MUBU3ARC2_J701MUWT3ARC1_UFN
And I got this error
"SW REV. CHECK Fail (BOOTLOADER) Device :5 Binary 3:
I searched on google this kind of error, and I found that I have to downgrade the bootloader. And this is why im here beacause I dont know how to do this, and if its works, i don´t know how to continue the process to root and expand my internal storage. So I really appreciate if someone one could help me with this. I can learn fast and I love to do this things by myself.
Thanks for your time!
Fernando
If you have to downgrade the boot loader, it means the firmware you are flashing is older than the one on your fon.
Go to www.updato.com and look for the he latest J701M firmware.
You can sort the list by date and by region.
And the site is download manager friendly ?
Good luck!
Sent from my SM-J700F using Tapatalk
Thanks for your answer! One more question about the region. Should I download firmware from the country that I bought the phone or firmware from the country that I am?
Look for your country specific firmware first.
Otherwise Samsung usually has regional software - i.e for several countries in a region e.g. Argentina, Paraguay.

Hi There,
Did you have any luck with your Phone? I have the same exact model but I have Android Version 8.1.0, Samsung Experience version 9.5; Android security patch level -Feb 1, 2019; Baseband version: J701MUBS6BSB3 and like you, I love doing things myself, and I can't seem to abide a smartphone that's not rooted.
I'm not exactly a newbie, I've been assisting devs with testing and such on AT&T SGS3 for quite some time. But I can't seem to find a stable method for rooting for this phone, no one seems to be doing any development on it.
I would love to hear your story thus far.
im needing help myself, i have the SM-J701M (J7 NEO), with android pie 9 official, but the binary is 7 (because Argentina Geniuses of course) and of all the things i tried nothing works, and the only thing they did was brick the phone, so i flash and stock firmnware to be usable again

What have you done? I saw your messages on TG but everyone ignores usually, I had another problem and footbed the solution myself as I got ignored for days.
So, what have you done? Maybe we can figure it out a way to root it, but to avoid telling you things that you may have already done it is better if you let us know your already followed steps.

i tried flashing TWRP like a guide said (Latest version) but then got stuck with a boot loop in the Samsung Galaxy Logo, then when i enter to flash the latest global firmware it didn't work because it was binary 6, so i searched for the version in Argentina that has binary 7, after that i didn't try anything else in fears of getting fully bricked, i was thinking of the magisk canary way of rooting (patching the AP) but i don't know what happen if it fails the flash
Hi, i have the same device, SM-J701M, but when i try to flash the stock, it says that the device binary is 9 and the rom is 8, but i cant find the binary 9 rom in any place, only 8. I have the trwp installed, so I was thinking if I format all data (system and files) and try to flash again, it will work ?
Also im from Brazil (SM-J701MT), and the device was buyed in Paraguay (SM-J701M) too. Should i install the SM-J701MT ROM right ?
Some success.

Ok, guys, I've had a bit of progress with my device Samsung Galaxy J 7 Neo (SM-J701M- Android version 8.01)
On this phone, the option to unlock the bootloader was missing in Dev Opt and I knew that in order to achieve anything I was going to have to unlock the bootloader.
I searched and found that, via adb/fastboot (Google's Platform Tools) rebooting the phone to the bootloader you could enter the code: 'fastboot oem unlock' or 'fastboot flashing unlock' and voila! everything would be fixed...But...my device wasn't even being recognized by "fastboot" ! adb yes but no fastboot! Always the message: "Waiting on any device". Trying to find and install the drivers to do this was next to impossible.
It actually caused me soft brick my device. However, it was a blessing in disguise; I knew what had to be done, I was going to have to reinstall the firmware via Odin. I searched the site (Sammobile - you'll have to create an account.) and found the Oreo and the Pie Firmware, I downloaded both but played it safe and restored my device with the Oreo first.
And lo and behold the option to unlock bootloader was there! No hesitation, clicked that sucker fast!!
Now, I'm running PIE (No one has done a Custom ROM for this baby just yet) and with the unofficial TWRP in the first link below, it's a bit buggy but until they make an official one for us ... I guess we'll have to wait.
Oh! And don't forget to make a backup with Smart Switch!
And pay attention to the advice here:
Code:
1. Extract the firmware file you just downloaded. You should get 5 files:
AP (System &Recovery)
BL (Bootloader)
CP (Modem / Radio)
CSC_*** (Country / Region / Operator)
HOME_CSC_*** (Country / Region / Operator)
2. Add each file to its respective field in Odin v3.14.4. Use CSC_*** if you want to do a clean flash or HOME_CSC_*** if you want to keep your apps and data.
3. Reboot your phone in Download / Odin mode (make sure your device is off) with the following button combo: POWER + VOLUME DOWN + BIXBY
Other options in case first option did not work or isn't possible.
Option 2 VOLUME DOWN + VOLUME UP then USB cable
Option 3 POWER + VOLUME DOWN + VOLUME UP
Option 4 POWER + VOLUME DOWN + HOME BUTTON
Option 5 (Note9) USB cable + VOLUME DOWN + BIXBY
Option 6 (Note10) POWER + VOLUME UP
4. Once in download mode, connect your phone to the PC, preferably using the original USB cable you got with your phone. Odin should detect your device and a BLUE box will show up with the COM port number. (Be sure, the SAMSUNG-drivers are installed on your PC!)
Do NOT tick any extra boxes. The only options to be ticked are F.Reset Time and Auto-Reboot.
5. Click the start button, wait for Odin to say 'PASS' in a GREEN box. Once the flash is complete, your phone will reboot, and you can disconnect your phone from the PC

I think that's because you have to be specific with the carrier; Orange; Nextel; Movistar...that makes a lot of difference in with the firmware. If you can, check to see what you had before and try that first.

Hey, I noticed we have the same android version and and phone model, I wanted to know which version of Twrp you used . I am guessing version 3.1.1?
It's an Un-official version of TWRP, so the version #( 3.2.1-0) may not count, you can check the links out to get more information.

Don't know if anyone's still following this thread or even still has this phone but there's been quite some progress with this device. (i.e: SM-J701M) The posts below will certainly help to bring your device up to date re: rooting; flashing etc.

[STOCK ROM] Stock Android 10 ROM

Hi i found official stock rom
mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/troika/official/RETAIL/TROIKA_RETAIL_10_QSB30.62-17_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
Will this work on the reteu devices (being from a different channel)?

My guess is that QSB is for Android 10 (it was called Q for some time). And PSB is 9.0 (aka Pie)

Yes, it should. It's been already tested here on the forum with pretty good results. So yeah, I'd say it will. But if you're not in a hurry, maybe you can wait for a bit longer to get the official build for RETEU.

Compatibility Variant / Firmware
Is exists a thumb rule for compatibility firmwares in between XT2013-1, XT2013-2, XT2013-3, XT2013-4.
Actually, I have a XT2013-4 device and I would like flash another firmware variant.
Thanks
RETRU = Russia
RETBR = Brazil
RETAR = Argentina
etc...
Well, I don't think there is any compatibility table or something... At least not an official one. )
Also, I would not try a "-1" firmware for example, on a "-4" device. If I'm not mistaken, one of them (probably the -4 variant...?) is Single SIM. The other ones I think are Dual SIM models (XT2013-2 surely is). So I don't think that's gonna work.
The only compatibility I can confirm is a XT2013-2 device running the RETAIL version without major issues (the signal seems to be lower for both carrier and wifi, for some reason, but other than that, everything works). Everything else is at your own risk. But again, I would not recommend flashing a -1/-2/-3 ROM onto your -4 device. Unless someone else did it and it went ok.

Nobody knows when. At least you won't find this information publicly available. Since XT2013-4 seems to be the only remaining model to update...I guess it shouldn't be that much longer.
If you can wait, I would advise you to wait. Flashing is not that difficult. But it comes with some risks, and in case you need to unlock your bootloader for whatever reason, it voids your warranty. So, while not impossible, it would be easier to wait, if you can. I know it's not easy! )
Basic instructions (in case you really wanna do this):
1. get the script attached to THIS post specifically (you're gonna need adb and fastboot files in the same folder as your ROM). You can also type the commands manually, but why bother when you can use a script to do it automatically for you? Also, make sure you choose Android 10! The commands are different for Android 10 compared to Android 9!
2. download the ROM from here (if you want to use the RETAIL channel).
3. unzip it
4. add adb and fastboot into the same folder, along with the script
5. connect the phone to your PC and enable USB Debugging, as well as the fingerprinting pop-up that follows it (also check the box for Always Allow)
6. boot into bootloader/fastboot (from a cold start, press Power + Volume Down).
7. flash with fastboot (using the script above)
8. done.
/!\ MAKE SURE YOU DON'T UPDATE YOUR SECURITY PATCH! THE SECURITY PATCH VERSION YOU'RE CURRENTLY USING AND THE ONE YOU'RE ABOUT TO FLASH NEED TO MATCH, in order to have the least amount of troubles!
Otherwise you might have some issues if you're trying to go back. I know it's tempting to just go and flash the newest version. BUT DON'T!
Again, this is just so you know in a few steps, how it's done. I would still advise you to wait, if you can. So you don't flash the wrong thing, or brick your phone, or stuff like that.

One thing I forgot to mention: simply requesting the bootloader unlock code will void your warranty. You don't even need to use it. Once you requested it, it's done.
Now, if you're super careful with that security patch I mentioned above, you might not need to request it in the first place, since you might not need to unlock your bootloader in the first place. Cool, huh?
Unfortunately I don't have so much experience with this. And it's not like I have a bunch of Moto One Actions I can test with. I only have my own. ) But in theory, if you don't update/downgrade your security patch, if you only flash ROMs with the exact same security patch, you could (again, this is just a theory, based on my own experience) go from Android 9 to 10 and back, without unlocking the bootloader. Because it looks like it's not the Android downgrade that's causing the issues. It's the security patch downgrade that forces you to unlock the bootloader.
And I wish I had this piece of knowledge before I requested my unlock code. )) But I didn't. So I'm just happy it wasn't for nothing and I learned a lot in the process.

Yes, I understand about the risk. Many years ago I always flashing my device (Nexus 5) while it was release update, but that was then ?. Now, Maybe I will be waiting till my device get update to android 10.
The problem is, there is no valid information from Motorola especially TROIKA XT2013-4 about update to android 10.
Thanks for your advice about flashing ROM..
Cheers ???
You could try to contact your local Motorola Support team. I don't think they will give you an actual ETA. But maybe they can tell you wether or not there will be an update to Android 10 for this particular model (XT2013-4). I think there should be. I see no reason why this particular model would be an exception. But you could double check that. Just in case.
Logic would suggest that there should be one soon. XT2013-1 and XT2013-2 already got the update. So it would make sense for the "-4" model to follow.

To many threads, what are the steps to change the original OS ?

Hello all,
I have read so many threads, and finally I'm still not sure to have the right method.
My current config has no more memory to update apps so I need to do something ! Here are the details :
Huawei P8 Lite 2017 (PRA-LX1)
build : 8.0.0.402 (C432patch01)
EMUI : 8.0.0
Android : 8.0.0
After reading several threads, here are my questions :
1. I have to use DC Unlocker --> is it always mandatory ?
2. Which TWRP do I have to use ? (link please, I'm completely lost, an still doesn't know which one to download ! )
3. LineageOS 15.1 seems to be the best choice (battery stamina), does it work perfectly ? (GPS, camera...)
4. What about Treble Project ? I still doesn't understand it is a better idea, how to install it, which ROM to use...
Thanks for all of your replies !
Hello,
DC-Unlocker is mandatory if your bootloader is locked. Recently, TWRP went official on P8 Lite 2017 devices. You can grab it from the official TWRP website (can't post links as I am a new user, search for 'prague' in the device list). I am using LineageOS 15.1 on my device and it's working flawlessly.
I use chimera to unlock bootloader.
But every custom to a have to flash isn't work. Boot loop or other issuses, like "device is uncertificated" so any google apps don't work.
Do i need to decrypt memory? To flash corectly custom rom.
Finally i have only root, and clean all brand apps.

1. Download DC Unlocker from GPlay, buy credits (it will send you username and password to your email)
2. Download DC Unlocker to your pc, in phone allow ADB debuging and HDB
3. Type into call app '*#*#2846579#*#*', tap on 'Background settings', next on 'USB Ports Settings' and select 'Manufacture mode'.
4. Plug your phone to PC and click on 'Detect device' and allow all stuff that will pop up on your phone.
5. Click on 'Server' tab (we are still on PC) and enter username and password you've got from app and 'Check login'.
6. Click on 'Unlocking' tab and choose 'Unlock bootloader code'. And your code should popup in text log.
7. Let's move to your phone, go to settings -> developer settings -> Enable OEM unlocking, enter your password.
8. Power off your phone and when it vibrate push Vol - and Power button at same time.
8. Plug it back to your PC and start Command prompt, enter 'fasboot oem unlock 00112233445566778899' (use your code).
9. Now just accept unlocking and formating all your data on the phone.
10. Download TWRP and let's flash it using command 'fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp.img' (if your command prompt is in for example C:\Users\Pepege just cd to your Downloads directory where is downloaded .img file)
11. If it's succesfull just type 'fastboot reboot' and keep holding volume up, if eRecovery pops up click on reboot and this time hold volume up and down (idk why but sometimes works this and sometimes this combo)
12. If you are in TWRP just format DATA, CACHE and Dalvik Cache partition, make backup (if you wanna) and now flash whatever you wanna. LOS, AOSP, it's on you.
Also if you wanna LOCK (not relock) your device, download HuRuUpdater, download oldest version of Android for your model and region (C432 in this case) and flash it, after you reboot from recovery go to bootloader (fastboot mode) and type on your pc 'fastboot oem relock 00112233445566778899' then 'fastboot reboot' now do first setup, go to developer options, disable 'Enable OEM unlock', format data again (to be safe) and you are ready to go, after updating to oreo relock status should change to locked.
EDIT: Adding random Youtube video just in case https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pclEmwt5C84
EDIT2: Project treble is simply stuff splitting system from vendor, it's on every device runing on oreo or better, more here https://www.xda-developers.com/goog...ze-android-so-oems-can-update-devices-faster/
Also for me best ROM are AOSP 10 and LOS 17.1
No custom rom wanted to boot. The method on this page will not work. All that's left for me is to decrypt the phone's memory. but then knowing that the weekend was over and I needed a phone call on Monday, I just let go.

What a great post, thank you so much !!!
Some people have reported more battery consumption on Lineage 16 and 17, compared to 15. Did you test all of these ROM ? Are there people here who have some feedback ?
@flgmnft
If I unterstand well, I need to extract fstab file from the ROM archive in order to remove the encryption : can you confirm or explain me what to do ?
@ilakhnon
It seems you don't have the encryption problem, what is your opinion about it ? did you edit the ROM fstab file ? other ?

Then try using hisuite to downgrade to nougat, but after unlocking upgrade to oreo to have treble enabled.
I'm waiting for an answer from DC unlocker's developper, and I will test this solution if I don't have another choice.
(I don't know if it is easy to downgrade with HiSuite, I've never used it, I will see that later).
Thank you for your help.

There's no problem unlocking 2017 with DC Unlocker which I did two days ago.
Install HiSuite and run it once to be sure you got proper drivers and make sure you put USB into manufacture mode.

I had the same issue, and contacted dc_unlocker's developer. Basically, the software can read the bootloader unlock password if it just discoverer the phone's port, even if does not seem to recognize the phone. I had to go ahead an got the code, for 4 credits/€
I'm also interested in knowing what is the best overall ROM these days in terms of compatibility and battery consumption!
Hello all,
Sorry for my silence, I had to go back to work, and after a few days I was seriously ill. I begin to recover some energy, it's not great, but enough to come back here... and because my phone, stiill with the original system, becomes really too slooooooooooooow !
@buteo : Do you confirm me I can go further with DC-unlocker software, in order to unlock the bootloader without any risk ?
@All :
As @Natural_High asked, which ROM is currently the best choice ?
Thanks for your help !

Hello all,
Sorry for my silence, I had to go back to work, and after a few days I was seriously ill. I begin to recover some energy, it's not great, but enough to come back here... and because my phone, stiill with the original system, becomes really too slooooooooooooow !
@buteo : Do you confirm me I can go further with DC-unlocker software, in order to unlock the bootloader without any risk ?
@All :
As @Natural_High asked, which ROM is currently the best choice ?
Thanks for your help !

You can use DC-unlocker, it's safe. I used it myself a couple of months ago too.
Regarding the ROM, I haven't tried any Android 10 or 9 ROMs. From what I've seen, people say it's still a bit too buggy, so I went for LineageOS 15.1 and it worked fine. I did some tests, since I don't use it as my daily driver, but eveything seemed to work fine! anyway, feel free to try some of the newer ROMs and let us know your opinion
Thank you very much for your answer !
Lineage 15.1 was my preferred choice, I think I will use it.
I hope I won't have any issues, since I really need my phone...
Let's go for backup...

The steps that worked for me are there.

How To Guide Edge 2021 (unlocked) special flashing guide

You can manually update to latest Android 11 (April patch)
Bootloader unlock may be required.
Download the ROM https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmwar...-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_cid50_CFC.xml.zip
Unpack the zip and enter bootloader (turn the phone off and press and hold volume down and power it on)
Flash everything EXCEPT radio.img. Failure to do it will result in NO SIM error!
Everything is better with this version ROM. Do not update to Android at this time because it's a mess.
I manually upgraded to A12 on my XT2141-2 as soon as I was able. The only issue I've had was SIM not detected with 1 specific Lsposed module enabled, disabling that one module resolved that though. And ofc not having Gravity Box yet kinda sucks but I've had a blast with new theming possibility with A12 thanks to Repainted and Project Themed apps.
Could you elaborate on any issues you experienced yourself?
Sorry to have to ask this, but what happens if I somehow screw things up? unless I'm mistaken there's no TWRP for this phone (yet) to help with recovery...and how might I go about backing things up before I try to flash a new ROM build on my device? (Still new to things)
edit: addition: probably a stupid question, but I've only ever flashed the `boot.img` file, am I supposed to "fastboot flash" every file over?

No. Everything I've read states that Verizon Phones are hard-locked-down and cannot be rooted, unless there exists or is discovered at some point in the future an exploit to crack such phones. Sorry if that means you're out of luck.
I believe the preferred way of having a rootable phone is to always outright purchase it independently of any carrier. I purchased mine unlocked at a Best Buy.
In case anyone is reading this and getting a 404 on the OG post link for the ROM I found it under this updated link.

Cannot upgrade to 12.5 MIUI

I have a Russian (thanks Amazon !!) Redmi 9a 32Gb/2gb. It is currently running latest 12.0.x ROM version, but i would like to upgrade it to 12.5.
I see on xiaomi ROM site there is currently a 12.5.x version for Russian version, but the OTA never arrived and if i download the recovery zip file and install it manually, it fails verification and stops.
Is there a way to install 12.5 without unlocking the bootloader ?
Is 12.5 supported on this specific redmi 9a ?
thanks !
mmm... spflashtool might work, but Ive only ever used it on a bircked device to unbrick it, never on a functional device to just change the ROM version, but if you really wanna do it without unlocking bootloader thats your best choice.
I will say anyway, its probably safer to unlock bootloader install recovery and install the rom from there, its your call tho.
Heres how I unbricked my device
[GUIDE] Unbrick hard-bricked device
Condition Phone does not turns on Phone not detected via USB Phone handshake/memory hash failed Requirements Unplug battery Download MIUI 12.5.4.0.RCDMIXM Fastboot ROM Download Scatter File for 12.5.4.0.RCDMIXM Download SP Flash Tool Download...

Right now I cannot unlock the bootloader, maybe in the next months I might try (I want to wait for the warranty to expire). My concern is that my version of Redmi 9A with just 2G of Ram is actually not compatible with MIUI 12.5. The 12.5 rom is actually available, but OTA will leave me in the 12.0 branch and verification fails if I try to install the ROM manually. I would not want to brick it by installing an unsupported ROM.
My phone model is M2006C3LG and the ROM I have right now says I have 1.8Gb of available RAM, I don't think you have a different device from mine.
Im a total n00b so I may be wrong about this next thing, but, I think the only difference is what version of MIUI they were sold with since the hardware doesn't allow downgrades further than the stock ROM that came with the device.
There is always antirollback after MIUI 10, but I think its even further locked for the original stock ROM that came to the device, but yeah, this is all my own speculation due to a bricking incident I faced.
The model number is the same, but the 9A was available with different sizes of RAM 2 or 3 or 4 Gb. Mine is the low end 32/2 which is the model still on sale today. If you still have 1.8 Gb of free RAM you very likely has the 3 or 4 GB model.
Maybe you are right, the OTA allows only for updates within the same MIUi version; I saw several guides on-line and i think i will try the miflash tool and switch to the global version. I have to find a way to unlock bootloader without Xiaomi account (no way in hell I'm signing up for that) and without sim card (this phone is used as a smaller wi-fi only tablet). There are some tools for an offline unlock, I will try those first.
It is incredible how Xiaomi is making it complex just to update to a stable official ROM; given also how much bloatware is shovelled with the stock ROM, I'm not sure I will ever consider Xiaomi again.

Thanks for the info. So you upgraded to latest 12.0 without moving to 12.5, any reason for not trying 12.5 ? The phone is currently barely usable with Android 10, maybe Android 11 is even heavier, but why not give it a try ?
I saw several youtube videos and guides and by using MI Flash with a Fastboot image (scattered tgz) it should be a total reflash of the phone.
