How to sync Strava data from my watch? - Huawei Watch 2

Hi all, I am a newbie to android wear.
Got a Huawei Watch 2 from China, the Bluetooth version.
I want to use it mainly for tracking my runs.
Most runners use Strava and they do have a version for Android watch as well. I have it installed.
But the problem now I face is, where does the recorded data go?
the whole point of getting this watch is that I don't have to carry my phone with me when I run anymore.
I have tried it a few times. I would start the Strava app on my phone, wait for it to finds GPS signal and press start. then I went for my run. when I was finished I pressed the stop button and I could see a summary of this workout.
Then when I got back to my phone and switched Bluetooth on and connected it to my watch. Data seems to have been synced but I could only see this workout in Huawei Health app, not in Strava. it's really frustrating. Could anyone let me know what I am doing wrong?

I'm not sure how to get the Strava app working, but I've used a different app called Ghostracer that records gps and HR during workout and syncs with several other online services like Strava, Smashrun, and Runkeeper all at once. I like it because it's simple and it also allows you to customize the display while you're working out (for both running and cycling)

I have Strava app on my watch and on my phone. When you go out for your run, wait for the GPS signal to turn white then off you go. Once you are back in range of your phone, it will automatically sync to the Strava app on your phone. To double check this, swipe down on your watch and flick to the left until you see the sync option. It will let you know if any sessions are left pending.
Hope this helps.

Yes, It is very sad that you can not export the training data from huawei training. I have now set up a training program on huawei health for 5000 m running and it works fine. I use endomondo for my training data, so I have to manually write in my running routes in endomondo after each training. When I am running I also play music on the watch via google music on the speaker on the watch. Works pretty fine and I can still hear the surround sound because I do not wear headphones...

Same problem here... I wanted to follow a huawei health training plan, but I also wanted my runs to upload to strava.. The solution I found is very simple: I use both apps to track my runs.. I start the tracking in strava (or ghostracer) and then I switch to the default app and start the tracking for my traning plan. I think you can do the same with endomondo. If you can't, just have some other app to auto-transfer the exercises from strava to endomondo (syncmytracks or tapiriik).

Yeah, that is a clever solution. Will the battery drain be much more if you run 2 apps att the same time to track your runs?
Yesterday I tried strava and "syncmytracks" to endomondo. Works fine. The endomondo app is not yet optimsed for android 2.0. A nice thing with the strava app is that the push button on the watch works to start and stop a run as it works in the huawei heath app.
Huawei heath app can export to google fit but I am not sure if it's only fitness data and not activites as run you track with the huawei heath app. I tried to record a run on the huwei and the used the app "synkmytracks" to synk google fit with endomodo but it doesnt seam to work.

Here is a simple solution:

I did everything according to the instructions, but when I register with Huawei for health and choose the country of Singapore, I receive information about a redirection to my country

Skiing and other sports that use gps?

Its pretty stupid that in S health are so many sports to choose from, but in the watch you have almost only excercizes that are strange to do with a gps tracking watch, pilates or other funny things that watch will not calculate correctly.
I mean where the f... is alpine skiing programm or snowbording or rollerskating, football etc. there is only cykling, running and walking to use gps with.
Why i cant synchronise my sports that i choose in S health app with S health app in the watch, i dont need pilates pushaps and the rest of this kind.
Anybody knows how to use the watch with skiing etc?

Hi, I am very curious as well. It frustrates the hell out of me that I can't use S Health for all activities I do and there are many useless ones instead. Anybody can help? How logical to me. Obviously not for Samsung.
You cant even start activity in the phone and see it on the watch, just like in android smartwatches on endemondo etc.
I will not wait until sombody will write an sports app, specially that i dont want 3rd party app and nowbody knows if there will be any first party sports app other than shealth with pilates, joga, pushups and other...
Because of that I have returned gear to the shop.
For notifications and watchfaces I dont need gear s3 with GPS. Also in my country there is no lte frontier version and no samsung pay.
I think i will buy Huawei Watch and use endemondo or other activity app connected to my phone.
I miss alpine skiing in the S-Health app on the S3 as well. But I hope that Samsung will add these activities in the nearer future. For the meantime I have installed Rossignol Ski Pursuit. I wll see next week, how it works in real life.
I have found Ski pursuit too, but what with other sports, i dont belive Samsung will add more in watch S health, couse gear fit 2 with GPS is almoust 6 months old and yet dont have many sports too...
I have had Fenix 3, wasnt afraid to use it everywhere, but gear s3 with that delicate bezel on slalom ski.
I will buy Huawei now, for superb price.
I will come back to gear s3 if samsung will add different sports and more first party apps

Two months on is it worth purchasing?

So I initially bought this watch on release and unfortunately had to return it due to massively overspending that month. I only had time to have a quick play with it but I loved the screen and the look (Classic) and am now really tempted to repurchase.
One thing I did note at launch was that the selection of apps was pretty woeful, basically everything was a watchface and there wasn't even Spotify, Uber etc. at least not in the UK app store. Has this situation changed at all? Is there any way of seeing a list of current available apps?
Secondly, one of my main reasons for buying would be tracking distance, pace and calories for runs using the watch as a standalone - can anyone tell me how reliable this is and if it works well?
I will post here what I have already said elsewhere on the Gear S forums, because it's relevant to your question,
People complain about there being more watch faces and not enough apps on the Galaxy Store...
well firstly there are hundreds of apps on the store! but just how much do you expect to be doing on your watch? I mean essentially it's for time and date function, relaying of notifications, messaging, call taking/making, health tracking, weather, news and navigation. All these functions are covered out of the box.
So what are you expecting? Microsoft Office? Minecraft? Photoshop? Hello... it's a watch!! and considering that you will be looking at the time more than anything else on the watch, having a huge choice of watch faces is not only a GOOD thing, it's essential!
Now I have downloaded various apps:
Voice Memo
Guardian News
Speedometer
Gear Navigator
Calculator
Cooking Timer
Xenozu (YouTube videos)
Spotify
Gear Browser
Flashlight Premium
Brrr (disconnect warning)
Yelp
Stopwatch
Timer
Hangman
And you know what? I hardly use any of them! So I wouldn't worry about the app situation.
Also, Spotify is available in the UK
and S-Health will track your performance and upload to your Samsung account, so it will sync with your phone(s) when reconnected.

google fit and huawei fitness app

i'm having problems with inconsistant data from both apps. Google fit is able to pull in data from my sleep app etc but the steps counter is way off. I like the huawei app due to the pulling the heart rate data to show lows and highs- whereas the google app doesnt? the huawei app also doesnt pull in the sleep data from sleep with android. what is everyone else doing- disabling one or the other? thoughts please
Not sure if this helps... But I was having problems with getting the Huawei Health app to recognize my phone... I had to install the Huawei Wear app on my phone first then have it sync to my watch... Then the Huawei Health app started to sync...
Long story short... Wondering if you need to install the Huawei Wear app on your phone as well to get things to sync properly...

How did you manage to pair Huawei Wear app with your watch? Did you have to unpair it from Android Wear first? No matter what I do, I could not successfully pair my HW2 sport with the huawei wear app, whether or not I have it paired with Android Wear...

Do the data to Google Fit synchronize to you on a regular basis or only at certain times?
I haven't watched it that closely, but it syncs on a regular basis... Atleast once a day...

I did not have to unpair it... I did have some issues initially... I ended up removing the Huawei Wear app and reinstalling it and it worked after that...

It does however I have issues that it seems that sometimes it's not Google Fit doing the tracking and it's pulling the data from Huawei Health, which in turn causes issues with trying to get it to sync with Nokia Health as that only includes data that Google Fit tracked itself, not what it also imported.
And why is:
- My Google Fit app on watch is showing 826 steps
- My Huawei Fit app on watch is showing 792 steps
- My Google Fit app on phone is showing 1112 steps
- My Huawei Fit app on phone is showing 745 steps
This is so confusing
Edit: I even have a different result between huawei wear app and huawei health app on my phone. OMG

I'm seeing similar;
Watch Daily Tracking: 5265
Phone Google Fit: 5295
Watch Google Fit: 5353
Phone Huawei Health: 5362
It sure would be nice if Huawei had documentation detailing their software. I'm inclined to stick with the Huawei fitness apps if for no other reason than they capture more data; fingers crossed it's at least somewhat accurate.
Can you please join this thread and send a bug report for this issue? Thanks guys! https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/77606997
Whats the trick to getting sleep data into Fit from the Health app? Everything syncs but sleep data for me.
You know its kind of depends on the amount of time you had you watch on your wrist or your phone in your pocket, also the apps measure this seperately and we know none of them are very acurate to show the exact number of steps so having a difference of say 100 steps would be ok
I have also noticed that google fit sometimes gets stuck on last day's results! Thats the worst part actually...its a real shame that huawei only updates the health app on phone and not on the watch!
the latest updates to GF does not accept data from Huawei Health or a lot of other apps, on contacting Huawei their answer was that end-users should speak to Google about it.
At the moment the only thing the HH is good for is the sleep recording as the figures for the other activities never match up, the data can't be easily moved to another device

Huawei Health doesn't sync workouts after update

After my Huawei Health app on the phone was updated, new workouts made in the huawei training app on the watch doesn't sync with the app in the phone. Old workouts are gone. I have also tried to sign in and out. It doesn't really matter so much because I use other apps for training because of the lack of exporting training data. I even have a Huawei phone.
Though my steps still syncs with google fit.

Yes, I also have Huawei Wear app.
I am about to test this now.
Just installed new version, currently on 8.0.0.309
Old training data still there, will check if new workouts register this evening.

Ok. Nice! I also have 8.0.0.309. I will change phone in a month (from Huawei Mate 8 to Mate 10 pro) and I guess I have do a reset on my watch for it to work with new phone. Maybe everything works then

Question Google Maps without mobile

Hi,
there is any way to make Google Maps works without the mobile phone with the non LTE version?
I mean my watch 4 have the GPS sensor, if it is connected to the city WIFi, I'm able to open Maps, see where I'm, but when I select a destination point it doesn't start the navigation.. Y?
Then, there is any way to download some Maps area to use it offline? Would be very useful to running without mobile phone..
Thanks!!
Same question...
I can't believe that Google redeveloped this application and still left it in such a poor state. I don't know why you can't use it offline in the slightest - you'd think the most powerful smartwatch going would be able to navigate at least basically by downloading offline maps to the watch - there is plenty of space for it.
You can't even appear to move the map around when navigating...
Currently if your phone dies for any reason you have no chance of navigating out with Google maps on your watch.

I agree. Currently you can create offline maps in Google Maps on the phone app. I do this quite a bit because I'm in areas without mobile data. It would be great if they had a feature in Google Maps (phone) where you could download the maps to your watch. It currently lets you download them to SD card. The map that I use the most which covers much of the state of Wisconsin is only 300 mb.
What is even more maddening about the Google Maps watch app is that it does not work when you are running google maps on phone with offline map (with no mobile data). At the very least you would think the watch could use the offline map on phone.
You mentioned your concern of phone dieing and navigating out. Navigating out of what? There are map apps which you can download maps to your watch. I have not found a free one but ViewRanger looks promising. Not sure I'm ready to pay $40 a year though...

I don't have the LTE version, so can't vouch for this personally, but this might help:
unfortunally this is not working in my case. i have the same settings turned on but the watch still want my phone to be connected
Unfortunately, the method shown also did not work for me.
When connected to the phone (S9), my Galaxy watch4 (non LTE version), allows me to search for locations on the watch, but Google Maps also opens up on the phone, so I have the required maps and directions both on the phone and on the watch.
Together (connected), they function without problem.
Away from the phone, after opening Maps on the watch and searching for directions, all I get is a blue dot on the centre of the watch screen and a message "Waiting for location..." until, after a minute or so, an exclamation mark shows up above the message "Couldn't get location".
Is there any solution to "navigate" with Maps independently from the phone?
Only thing to do is be as loud as possible until google actually fixes it. Having no offline map when the older samsung watches had it is outrageous.

The method shown on video was for a LTE watch. Regarding a solution for navigating away from phone, unfortunately not. The ideal option would be for there to be an option to move offline maps (which currently can be created with Google Maps on your phone) to your watch. The file sizes are not that big. Another thing that would be nice is if they allowed you to navigate with non-LTE watch connected to phone which was using offline maps. Currently this does not work. The phone needs data (LTE or wifi) in order to navigate on non-LTE watch with Maps.

I was going to suggest open street map, but it doesn't appear there is a wearOS version.
OsmAnd — Maps & GPS Offline - Apps on Google Play
Navigation on hikes is no longer a problem. Download the map, put notes and go!
play.google.com
Simple OSM Viewer - Apps on Google Play
Open street maps and OpenTOPO viewer with drag, zoom, and my location options
play.google.com
You might be able to at least make a vector PDF of a map of an area and view THAT somehow on the watch.
I don't understand how it is not possible yet to use an online or offline map on the Galaxy Watch only. Specially a GPX Reader with your current position (like GPX Viewer)
Offline
https://www.reddit.com/r/WearOS/comments/ugk8jw
There is an excellent app called "Maps" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.trackwear.maps) which has ability to download maps for offline use. You select square of area which you want to be downloaded and that's it. You can even select do themes of maps like Satellite view with street names or something else like terrain.
I am also searching for offline maps and without Phone...
Somebody tested the Pro Version with Germany?
GPS Navigation (Wear OS) - Apps on Google Play
Turn-by-turn navigation and offline maps
play.google.com
Need for Germany offline solution...
Thanx in advance.
