Hi all,
I have a dual sim XZ running the Thailand firmware and is rooted.
A new update just came out yesterday and I was wondering how I can upgrade my phone to newest firmware and keep root?
Also, if I use Flashtool and don't check the "data" option when flashing, my apps and data shouldn't get wiped when I update?

Hi guys,
so as you are receiving Android 5.0.2 I spoke with my carrier today to find you that they are still waiting for Sony to provide the test software. This means more waiting for me. I'm thinking of updating following this manual - http://techbeasts.com/2015/03/16/update-sony-xperia-z3-compact-d5803-official-android-502-lollipop-231a0690-firmware-how-to/
Before I do it I have a few questions:
1. When I update using this method am I going to lose all the apps and setting that I'm using now?
2. If I choose sets say the german version of 5.0.2, does this mean that in the future I will receive OTA updates alongside the phones running this version out of the box?
Thanks in advace.

I would just point out that that thread you linked to states that it is specifically for the Z3c. That is a different device to the Z3
However, you can just flash a FTF for the Z3 found in flashtool (Or the mega collection thread) using flashtool.
You will lose all data on your phone unless you choose to not wipe data.
You will receive updates as if you had the phone with the firmware you install on it.
But you can always flash the FTF for your carrier once it comes out
Greg
Thanks Greg.
So there is a way to avoid wiping the phone when updating with flashtool ?

Untick the box that says wipe data
If you get a load of FCs after the phone boots you will have to re-flash and then wipe data
I think I got it, but I would have to read a bit more before flashing.
Thanks again
Are there any disadvantages to flashing a different version of the firmware?
For example, I'm with Three, and although they now pride themselves on their phones being unlocked, they've still put their bloody splashscreen and other bits and pieces on the provided firmware on the phone! I'd rather have the generic UK version, but just making sure there'd be no issues with that.
None for me, My phone was with ROM for Mtel ( a Bulgarian carrier)that also claims the phone is unlocked. I flashed the central Europe ROM without any issues. Even kept all the files and apps from 4.4.4
Thanks for that, I'll have a look at some of the various firmwares available and make my choice!
I'm just wondering if it's safe to update from G920IDVU3EPD5 (india 2016-5-01) to G920IDVU3EPJI (Australia, Telstra)? I soft bricked my phone last year, and was recommended to flash the india version, and now I want an understanding on if it's safe to flash the Australian version without losing contents on my phone?
Thanks,
edit: oh, and i'm currently on 6.0.1 updating to a newer 6.0.1
I had my phone rooted up until last year and an issue with the battery happened and I had no choice but to send it in for a battery replacement. When I got the phone back it had the latest OS at that time installed and was of course no longer rooted. So now I had no way to go back to root and had to live with that but since then my phone would never update on it's own to the latest Baseband version: G920VVRS4CQA3
and Build number: MMB29K.G920VVRS4CQA3
The OTA update was disabled when I rooted it and so now I can't OTA update it.
What is the best way to just flat wipe the phone so that it loads the OS and can then do OTA updates or will I need to find a current original stock rom to download (I've had no luck, so many links are crap).
Can anyone help please?
If I understand correctly, I need to dl the latest version and security patch and use odin to install. Will that completely wipe my phone so the crippled OTA update will work?

Hello mate, i found a solution and successfully update my device to Oreo officially i just changed the CID and MID back to KIDDI japan au and downloaded the marshmallow official flash zip file (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1noyAV4mGLTRNGaXqbdweRHsARWZ9J6LH) and install it by placing it to Mirco SD card after installation i went to software update and updated to Oreo. PS: my device were network locked while i were trying to convert it to international version but after flashing it unlocked automatically probably i flashed the wrong version. let me know in case of any problem.

If you modify your phone ( root ) you will loose the option to update ( OTA update ).
If you want to update you phone you will have to download firmware and flash with Odin. Everytime that you update firmware you will have to re-root you phone again.

Generally yes ( mainly with rooting )
You can backup your app/data by using something like Google backup service or smart switch ( PC app ).
Hey guys,
Hopefully I'm not requesteing a completely useless thing cause I haven't found a fix so far. Since it's somehow related to firmware flashing via Odin, I chose to ask in this thread.
I bought my Galaxy S8+ a while ago and carrier unlocked it (It was on Vodafone Romania). Ever since unlocking the carrier, I can't seem to receive any firmware updates for some reason.
Smart switch says I'm at the latest firmware version but according to Sammobile, I'm far from being at the last version. (Still Android 8 on it)
My phone is not rooted (I haven't felt the need to root it so far because it's been doing great). Any ideas how can I fix this and install the latest firmware?
If I download the latest Romania firmware from sammobile (carrier-free version) and flash it through Odin, would it work or I'd encounter a difference because the CSC is Vodafone Romania?
Thanks!
Hey is there a way to root the SM-G975U with security update on july 1, android pie, and a way to unroot? (like the stock rom files)
Thanks
