Hi Guys,
I'm currently on BLN-L21C432B151 and eagerly (almost desperately) waiting for 7.0 with EMUI 5, but I notice many threads of rollbacks to 6.0.
So my question is:
Is it worth manually upgrading to Nougat (if available), and how safe is the procedure?
Please list the Pros and Cons of upgrading to Nougat.
(ex. battery, features, camera, smoothness etc...)
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Regards, PACC

In my case/region the latest nougat version is B360, but I also noticed other L21 roms from other regions (B361 and B370), is it ok to update with these or will it wipe data or brick my phone?
Regards, PACC
It's really worth it.

I read in another thread that there is no radio app in nougat, is this correct?
Which method is easier and safer, by proxy update or by extracting firmware file into folder?

I asked my friend who owns a 6X and he said yes. FM Radio stays in EMUI 5.

Hi
Yes i´m staying on 7.0 and EMUI 5.0
FM Radio is also available in the menu.
What i like on 7.0.
- Better performance
- some Camera updates and functions
- Security!
- EMUI Theming much better
What i don´t like:
- That silly loudness warning if you want to increase the volume
- Fingerprint on the first startup is not working due to security. But OK. Security first.

Even on Marshmallow on first boot the pin is required, to me is better because even if not much, is a major security. For the rest yes on Nougat every is way better; ram management, notification bar with tiles, speed, ecc.
Is it advisable to factory reset (full wipe) after upgrading to 7.0 EMUI 5.0?
I learnt this a long time ago, is it still recommended after every major Android update?

So I am looking to get a honor 8, but there is one thing that I am not so sure about, EMUI. So first of all, what are your thoughts on it, is it just a re skin of stock android or are there limitations/advantages. I am coming from IOS, and like the look of it, which i know emui is somewhat similar looking. Can I remove EMUI and go with a more stock version of android? If not what are some things I should do to get around the limitations of it? Also, can update to Nougat? Thanks!
There are more number of inbuilt features in EMUI than stock ROM. Some of the apps are inbuilt with the it. Stock ROM doesn't have every utility app that needs in day to day life like file manager, call recorder. We can download the app in play store in it. EMUI has these apps built with itself. So no need to download external app.
Limitations for EMUI is the RAM management. Im not sure about Honor 8, but RAM management is major issue in EMUI in all other models. It might be fixed soon with the upcoming updates also.
Regarding the update, you will get update till Android O for sure. But the time taken to get the update will be more than that of stock android devices. So don't worry about updates if you have the patience for it.
As of now you can't remove EMUI , as custom ROM is not available.

No other custom ROM available yet, the answer is NO for now...
But u can change Launcher if u dont like EMUI style.

Removal of the current EMUI will void the warranty. Please be aware of this and makes changes to your device at your own digression. (NS)
Alright thanks everyone for your reply, ill just probably customize the ui with different launcher and stuff and I should be fine with it.

We will still get many modded custom Roms but as for custom Roms like CyanogenMod etc, it appears that it's a monumental task because of honor 8 being a Kirin device.
I don't understand the actual nuances, just stating what I usually read.

As most of us have not been able to partake in the Oreo Beta program it would be nice if we could get some feedback from those lucky users that were able to get into the beta program.
Have you been able to unlock and root the Beta firmware?

Which new features do you like?

Unlock yes, root no.
Going system root might work. Systemless will be tricky as the boot partition is split into a ramdisk partition and a kernel partition. And some files that used to be in ramdisk could be in /system now, I haven't investigated much (this is the case with OPO3 Oreo).
But I like Oreo so I hope Magisk will work with it in the future.

Have applied, according to the app I am 4/500. The App looks very professional and well-designed. Looking forward to trying out Orea early, bravo Huawei. I'm not a rooter etc, will be using as a regular heavy user.

I have no problem with android o so far. However I have not used all features available with android o. I do not really care for the new features of android o or emui 8 (picture in picture, hide navigation bar, floating dock,...). In fact I like the settings of the emui 5 better.

Yes, for whatever reason there is no 'a' mentioned under build number. The a is in the internal Huawei build number so FunkyHuawei shows it like that.
Under further review, the phones do report the 321a to FunkyHuawei's server as the installed version regardless, so if you finished the install it is 321a. Nothing to worry about.

Android O for C636 exists, but it's an older version from September, branded as EMUI 6, before they decided to make it EMUI 8. Probably newer beta one coming soon. There are new ones for C900 (hw/normal) branding, Latin America branding, Russia branding... I just haven't released them.

Edit: oh, duraaraa already answered
I got all the three Oreo files too via the HiSiute method, since even with a correct DNS setting, wherever I could stick it I got "Package information download failed". Installed via the HWOTA successfully though. The Oreo test build is quite buggy when it comes to Wireless tethering and LTE speeds. Feels much slower then my N European 194 build so far. Shows "Phone Overheating" a lot too, something I never saw on my N build either. Have yet to see how long the battery will last. See few differences in the camera, maybe added zoom in raw mode. Still no Monochrome Raw, or 1080p Timelapses.
It looks like Huawei/Honor continues the development of security patches for EMUI 5 - b410 is approved by IMEI and contains August patches, while b412 contains September patches and will probably be approved soon. However, nothing new on the EMUI 8 side of things.
I don't remember how things were with the EMUI 4->5 transition, but the fact that they continue to focus on providing updates only for the old emui doesn't fill me with confidence.
Was 8.0.0.521 an one-off? I hope not.
I think Oreo is an one-off. Infact i returned back to b407
It's really disappointing, because the B521 firnware has some annoying bugs.
To me, the fact that Huawei controls both processor (Kirin) and OS (EMUI), should mean that they would be of the likes of Apple and iOS, or the likes of Google and Pixels: each version of EMUI should be able to be installed on all compatible phones, on launch day. I can't believe they cannot do that, unless their developers' skills are so bad.
This is a lost opportunity, in favour clearly of selling more phones. They envision being better than Apple, without taking the first page of their book: fewer phones, better support.
If that's the case in the end, "so long and thanks for all the fish".

OmniROM - Both hitting the sweet spot between RR and LOS. NFC.
RR - Really good battery life, customization to the max"
I am using RR coz of the customizations. AFAIK all the roms are usable as daily driver. There might be minor bugs here and there but nothing too big. NFC is only available on Omni. No VoLTE support on any rom. Thats all i can think of right now. Their web has detailed info.

You can simply download the OREO full rom and flash it as a local upgrade or if you have twrp, simply follow the steps to flash after wiping the system (not internal storage). Here is a link (see item number 3) for downgrade at the OP6 website. I have not tried it but should work

Just one of many regrets I see
As the title suggests, my Poco X3 NFC (MIUI 12.0.1.0RJGMIXM Android 11) widevine drm downgrades from L1 to L3 overnight. There were no updates and whatsoever. When I opened netflix it downgraded from L1 to L3. I've also updated all security certificates (FIDO and IFAA) but also for some reason I cannot update the Widevine certificate (Error code: 1).

Having used it for a while, I wouldn't that much better (at least on a complicated device as the PX3) but anything is better than the bloat and spyware of stock MIUI...

I'm thinking of switching to a custom ROM (preferably the miui made by xiaomi.eu) as I've heard that it is much better than stock MIUI.

Hello, i download version 12.5.1 and it is solved, just go to the fingerprint settings, select payments with fingerprint and there will be the option to download the certificate, and you will be able to use the rom you want.

Yes as I've seen on reddit threads. They've fixed most bugs including the ones I've encountered and somehow improves performance in some ways. Can I ask if it improved the perfomance and if it has annoying bugs? I'll wait for the update so it is much safer as I don't have any replacement phone if something goes wrong. Thanks for the feedback.

I liked MIUI features so xiaomi.eu might do it for me but I'm scared as I might hard brick my phone so probably I'll wait for the official update for my phone.

So far I have not had a problem, I even have magisk installed, the only thing that still does not fix is the launcher and the gestures (but if you use the default launcher there is no problem), so I am using the buttons right now.

Did you apply for the pilot tester to receive the update? haven't received it yet so hoping it would be stable for the testers so they can release it soon.
