I got the XZ Premium today and very happy with the phone.
Only issue I have is that the phones vibrates (not vibration motor) while playing music. Phone back panel vibrates even with songs with limited bass. It vibrates not in a good way on the back of the phone.
Is this normal or do I have a faulty unit?

Anyone experience this back panel vibration during music play?

yes, it was on 2 of mine. its normal and nothing is wrong with yours or anything
It's pretty much normal. I feel it's the main reason they have kept that much bezels, to absorb/Damp the vibration.

It makes the phone feal cheap or appear to have a bad speaker. I've never experienced this on a phone before.

All speakers create sound by vibrating air. Some vibrations transfer to the case. That is normal.
Put your hand on top of any speaker while playing music. You will also feel it vibrating.

I agree but first time the whole back panel vibrates and not in a good way. Nexus 6p and HTC Boom did not do this and both had front facing speakers.

It's actually a smart thing they did lol. It creates a resonating chamber adding substance to the sound. Putting the phone on a flat thin surface such as IKEA furniture will transmit the vibrations to the panel its sitting on adding slightly more bass. Speakers do it for a long time and also some phones. There's nothing cheap about this. They did the speakers right. They could've increased the volume tho

I agree on sound volume. It is entirely too low. I'm getting used to the vibration of back panel.

As soon as root becomes a doable thing without compromises I'll fix that. It's a simple set of tweaks that boost speakers, headphone output etc. But till then I'll just enjoy it as it is

It seems as though music and sound only comes out of one speaker on the device.
Whenever I play music, the right speaker (facing the device) seems to be louder. I "scientifically" tested this by covering one side and putting it close to my mouth to make wah-wah noises. The right one is definitely louder.
Is it a defective device? I noticed the tendancy as well with the iPhone 4. I assumed it was because of playing games. My hand would cover one of the speakers. It wouldn't cover the dominant one, though.
So.. What's up with one speaker?
Because there is only one speaker.

Things are beginning to make sense now.
Haha, thank you guys.
I hate how they made it look like a speaker, granted I like my phones somewhat symmetrical. They could of been cool and made the speaker setup stereo instead of monophonic. Or hell even a monophonic setup with two speakers, would make our music much louder.
The bottom and faux metal bezel is a design ripoff of the iphone 4 I believe apple is suing them over it. Its just a cheap speaker our turned down because the iphone has a loud speaker with same design.

I noticed it too but I assumed one was for the mic so thanks for the post cleared things up for me

Hi all
My loudspeaker squeaks at volumes 50% and higher. Even when the phone is ringing with the default att tone.
Coming from many motophones, I can say loud tones have never been a problem, so I didn't expect it.
Am I the lucky one, or what?
Thank you
No problems here.
did you check your equalizer settings? might be related to that.

I disabled the equalizer altogether, IIRC. I'll check.
The sound it makes is like when a dust grain gets trapped somewhere in the speaker... plastic vibrating from the sound waves. Just the "blip" the phone does when turning up volume is enough to trigger it.
did you try to take the back cover off and then play a sound again? is it still there then? if so then you might have a damaged speaker membrane, if its ok without back cover then you might have a damaged back cover that vibrates while playing music etc. does this problem also occur while talking over speaker?

Yeah it's still there, only if I seal the speaker with the finger it goes away somewhat, but the high frequency whine is still there.
I guess there's no easy way to repair it, like, say, blowing some compressed air near it?
It can clearly be heard while in speakerphone, but it's not as bothering (due to spkrphone voice lacking in low freqs).
sounds like the speaker membrane is whether damaged or dirt or whatever is under the speaker cover. i would advise to have it checked. or exchange the phone. doing it yourself with compressed air is one thing but you might damage it more and they might then refuse to exchange or fix it under guarantee terms. hope this helps.

well try and have it checked in a repair shop. maybe its really just something underneath the speaker case. they should have the right tools : -)

I disabled the sound effects (which btw I had left turned on for the external speaker) and the squeaking is reduced to bearable levels, at least for the ringtone. Thanks for the tip.
no problem.

Vibration while typing is not loud, however the vibration while receiving texts is quite loud... Is it just my phone or do others notice this as well?
I realize that "too loud" is relative, however my old phone didn't make any noise while vibrating...

yeah it's ridiculous. Maybe someone will find where the vibration intensity settings (if they exist) are buried.
Mine's fine. I mean, I'll hear it if it's sitting on a hard surface like my desk, but if it's in my pocket, I feel the vibration but definitely don't hear it. The vibration on my DHD was audible. Not loud enough to be worried about it, but the One X is definitely quieter.
As for vibration intensity, we'll almost certainly get a mod to adjust this.
Yeah I hear mine more than I feel it in my pocket. It ruins the whole being discrete with text messages or notifications.
Definitely freaking loud as heck.

I'll second this. Should do more vibration, less buzzing. Thin phone, little room for motor and weight spinner...
There has to be some buried settings... The key vibration is nice and mellow... No reason we shouldn't be able to lighten up the notification buzz.
The iPhone 4S introduced a new type of vibration unit that is silky smooth... Hope Apple don't have it patented... Should be used on all future phones.
Noobe question concerning the waterproof feature on my (and other Xperia's) DD6616. If the phone is waterproof up to 5 feet for a continuous 30 minutes, what prevents me from surfacing and then going back under for up to 5 feet for another 30 minutes? Will the integrity of the phone weaken? Is there a standard time between dives you should take? Does the phone's seals get back to normal out of the water, thus the reason you can go back in? I haven't used my phone in the pool yet, but plan on this upcoming summer. Since I won't be under water constantly for 30 minutes, then having the phone in and out of the water for 5 minutes here, 3 minutes there, etc, etc, should not even be a factor correct?
Not a factor, but keep in mind the chemicals in pools. I wouldn't use it and forget it, definitely rinse it off after getting out of the pool. And no salt walter. I'd recommend a case or ziplock bag for salt.
The only thing I would watch out for is jets and breaching (can pull on flaps). And dropping it in a 5ft pool is like dropping it from 5ft on concrete. Wear a wrist strap (slippery)
So what prevents water from getting into the exposed 3.5mm audio jack, and then into the phone's internals?
I questioned the inclusion of a lanyard option until reading this post. Now it makes perfect sense to include it. Phone slips while underwater, dives to the deep end, boom!!

My phone speakers are 50% quieter since I bought the phone since submerging it so i'd be wary of that. Everyone may say it's nonsense but i've compared it to a brand new Z3 and the speaker volume and quality have degraded since I had it.

A few days ago i dunked my phone and 10 minutes after that I tried to make a phone call. I could barely hear the person on the other end, so I turned on the loudspeaker. But again i the volume was terrible and i could not hear the other person at all.
10 minutes after the call the phone was dry and everything returned to normal.

Try doing the service test for stereo speakers. Dial *#*#7378423#*#*
Select service tests then stereo Speaker. Compare left and right speaker. If both are loud and clear then you're lucky. Tried mine and the right stereo speaker(which is the bottom) is muffled.

Both are OK. There is a difference between the quality of both speakers but it's been like this since I bought the phone ( The top one sound better and sound better in general. But that's subjective so yeah... )
I haven't submerged my phone in water but the speakers are lower (although sometimes they get louder, happens with a Bluetooth speaker too). Same thing happened to my old m8 after a while, the volume just dies out.

So you think it's software? Went to the store yesterday and compared it to the displayed Z3 and the store unit's top and bottom are equal in loudness and were good. So do you think this is permanent?

The loudness of both speakers is equal, it's the way they sound that is different. The top one sound good , but the bottom is a little tinny
Mine now has the screen coming away on the top right corner, no wonder the top speaker is quiter now.
I am trading in my Z3 towards something that won't fall apart after one month's use lol

It seems to be normal. I've been reading and found this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/help/3-little-issues-z3-help-please-speaker-t2898898 - Issue 1
As the title suggests,
My top speaker is roughly 20/30% louder than the bottom one.
I assume this is because the bottom one has the mic in so it is a smaller speaker, just curious what everyone thinks?

Nope, it's because the top speaker faces forwards and the bottom faces downwards try putting music on and pivot your phone and you'll see

Thanks, it makes sense now why the top of the phone vibrates through the back with the sound more than halfway, and the bottom one doesn't unless it is almost at full volume.

After a few hours of watching youtube videos and using various music apps, i can confirm that with my device all of the bass comes out of the top speaker, and the bottom one sounds very weak. It is strange when watching something in landscape because my left ear picks up most of the sound.
I have none of the sony sound booster things active.
Can someone else test this for me please? Or let me know if there is a way to disable the bottom speaker, i find it very annoying now that i can notice it properly.
