SM-S906L problems with Gear VR - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have an S6 Edge plus (my main phone) and an S6 Edge. They work fine with my gear VR headsets. I have a Straight Talk S6(S906L) that works fine with cardboard and works fine with 360 degree videos. It also passes ALL checks in the gyroscope tester app. When I put it in either my newer black gear vr or older white one, the view stays straight ahead and the scene stays stationary and moves with my head. I can not look around inside the actual scene. When installing the Gear VR apps, that initial screen with the Facebook login works the way it is supposed to but then everything goes bad once I wear the headset. I've blown away the software and reinstalled-same issue. I've turned off a live wallpaper in case it messing it up-same issue. I unpaired the controller-same issue. Does anybody have any ideas? Samsung support says I need to contact Tracfone but the phone was bought on Ebay as a store close out. I don't care that it can't be activated, I wanted it strictly for VR use.

Oddly enough, a factory reset fixed it.

android wear issues

I have a stock note 5 and a first generation zenwatch that has worked fine with my other phones but for some reason it has in the past month not been playing nice with my note 5. I have tried factory resetting the watch, different faces, etc and no luck. The voice control doesn't seem to work unless the phone is on and unlocked, even if I set the watch as a trusted device and notifications are extremely spotty. Anyone encountered issues or have a fix? Any help is much appreciated, I rely heavily on my watch and it sucks not having any usable functionality (besides navigation, which won't launch except by phone)

Hello KaiserOrn,
Unfortunately I believe there is no way to do that...
I recently found the need to do so because I rendered my Samsung Phone and replaced it with a brand new iPhone 6s Plus...
I tried and I tried and I tried but no joy...
I searched the internet for a solution for hours but I couldn't find anything or even that much people looking for the same kind of solution.
In my case I paired my Gear S2 with a friend's Samsung Phablet, reinstalled everything and now I have it in Stand Alone mode but with everything working as it should.
In my particular case I will have to wait for both Samsung and Apple to launch the Gear Manager for iOS and then we will see it from then...
For now I have my problem solved.
Although I solved my immediate problem, my Gear S2 serves as nothing more than an ordinary watch... LOL
Good luck on your quest.
Cheers.
Hmmm... not sure if this was missing in older firmware (I just got my classic 3G to replace my older sport 3G, so all I have to test is the newest firmware)...
On my watch I can go to Settings->Device and the last item in the list is 'Date and Time'.
Select that, and the first item is a toggle, 'Automatic'. If selected, the watch gets its time from the paired phone, and all the other items in the Date and Time list are grayed out, unselectable.
Toggle 'Automatic' off, and you will then be able to select Date, Time, and Time Zone items to set manually.
Of course, this may be a 3G-only thing, as it can always connect directly to the network and get the time. Still, since there is a manual mode, it makes no sense this wouldn't be in the non-3G versions too.

Dear dwallersv,
That option you mention above is only available on 3G models...
In non 3G models there is no point in having it since "automatic" mode will never have an time server to query...
The manual mode would work but they never made oit available.
Cheers.

Darn, I suspected that.
However, you're not quite correct, in that obviously the non-3G models DO get their time from the phone, so it is "automatic" in every sense that it is on the 3G. In fact, the 3G network can be turned off completely on the watch and it still get its time via BT (just as the non-3G versions do).
So 3G, from a technical standpoint, really has nothing necessarily to do with "automatically" setting the time on the watch.
Why Samsung left the manual setting mode out of the non-3G firmware is unexplained. It certainly has nothing to do with the functionality itself of standalone 3G capability, as is obvious in the way non-3G watches set their time to begin with -- automatically from the phone
I believe it is simply because samsung would like to have dependency on their products.
I would like to stop using a smartphone and I have a samsung tablet, which they choose to exclude from the Samsung Gear App. Samsung makes it impossible to use my watch without a phone which gives me the choice to use all or dump all while using a (Samsung) tablet with Samsung watch would be an ideal solution to me.

This is totally possible, that's how I roll. I use an Frontier LTE as my phone and keep a tablet on hand for tasks requiring a larger screen. I find that a watch & tablet combination is more convenient and efficient than carrying a smartphone.
There are a couple of folks on the forum who have installed the Gear Manager app on a Samsung tablet by modifying the build prop file. I want the flexibility of using multiple devices (iPad, Tab S2) without disrupting the watch's setup, so I have a disposable phone dedicated exclusively to managing the watch. It's permanently docked next to my home router and stays remotely connected to the watch, to pass along notifications. With a service like Digits, NumberSync, or Google Voice, all calls and messages are shared across devices. There is no need for them to to be paired via BT.
My setup is a little complicated, but your needs may be different. The S3 LTE (I'm not sure about S2 3G) does not need a smartphone. It can be setup without Gear Manager. Right out the box, it can handle calls and texts, provide basic info like time/date/weather, track fitness, set reminders, etc.
A watch can't do everything a smartphone can do, but it does some things better. A tablet can do many things better than a smartphone, but sometimes it's too big. A watch and tablet compliment each other perfectly.

I figured this out...
You need to go to "Settings", "About" and "Reset Gear" - note - you will lose all of your apps and watch faces when you reset your gear.
When setting up the gear, you will be prompted to install the gear software on your phone. Scroll down on your watch until you see the "?" for help in that screen.
Press the "?" (question mark button) and you will be brought to a new screen which gives you the option of using your watch without your phone. It says something to the effect of "If you would like to use your watch without a smart phone, press here.
Press underlined "here" and you will be able to setup the watch for use without a smartphone.
Again - this is a destructive reset! So make sure all of your apps and watch faces are synched in a phone first.

Connecting 2 Gear S3's to One Phone

I'm using an S3 Classic and thinking of getting a Frontier as well (wanted a Tag Connected Modular 45 but unimpressed with its battery and lack of speaker... Oh and the price). Presumably I can connect both to the Gear app on my Note7 but will both have full functionality and all apps and will it just be a case of selecting the watch I want to use in the Gear app, switching whenever. Anyone done it?
I have the S3 Frontier LTE and im thinking of getting the classic. Interested to know if 2 watches will work
I'll let you know later. My Frontier should arrive today!
I can confirm that BOTH watches work perfectly. Apps can be installed on both (paid apps work without having to pay a second time). There's a drop down to allow you to select which watch you want to connect to. When selecting the new watch the other one disconnects immediately and the second one connects within a few seconds. There's an automatic connection option which is supposed to connect to the watch being worn but haven't got that to work yet. Maybe it takes a bit of time. So pleased at how easy it is to swap watches.
Further information. There was a software update for the Frontier which I installed. Now, the auto switching works perfectly. Both watches turned on and the phone connects to whichever one you wear. Take the connected watch off, put on the other and hey presto, drops the original connection and connects to the one you are now wearing. Perfect.
This nolonger works. The gear app will prompt you to reset the watch when switching watches. Reset will cause you to lose your downloaded apps, your cards in Samsung Pay and your third party watch faces (like the ones from the watch maker app).
Works for me every time with no issues other than I have to set up Samsung Pay each time.
Correction. Just swooped from Frontier to Classic and back to Frontier (simply by taking one off my wrist and putting the other on) and Samsung Pay still active. So no issues at all.
Hi peeps
I want to get a gear S3 but I already have a Gearfit 2.
I want to use the Gearfit 2 for work and the S3 for and out and about.
One of the concerns I have is I also want to be able to track some steps at work and when I get home use the other watch and continue to count steps from where I was on the other one, like how fitbit do it.
Can that be done?

Here WeGo non Samsung phone

So it seems that the Here wego maps/navigation app is not available for the s3 if you aren't using a Samsung phone. (I happen to use an LG v20)
Has anyone found a way to side load the app? Or what is the best alternative maps application for the s3?
Ok I found a way around the issue for anyone watching this thread... It's a little crazy and not for everyone.... I happen to have a Samsung Galaxy S7 as a work phone... I connected my S3 to that phone, where it installed HERE by default.... I then backed up the watch to my samsung account and then reconnected the watch to my LG V20 and restored the backup which included HERE.... Boom.... Problem solved
That's strange.. I got my S3 R-760 back in October 2017 from the UK. Immediately paired to a Sony Z5 and has been like that ever since, even after the ROM updates. One of the first things I did was to install HERE. Can't remember how exactly but it wans't a hassle so I assume straight from the watch or the store. I guess it has been removed after I installed it. Using it now as a standalone, no connection to the phone is required, just direct connection to the internet via wifi or hotspot. Of course I do not have the convenience of using it through the phone which could make it easier to search etc, but it is good enough.
Nice workaround you found, but for those that do not have the option of a Samsung phone, this thread could help: https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/help/wego-t3724511/page3
Hmm - I downloaded from Google onto my OnePlus 5T, installed on watch from Gear store and that was it.

LG Gwatch 100 push screen from phone

I have a G watch W100 and in the past, it could always link with my phone through Wear OS and allow some of the many apps I have to show up in the watch apps list. I returned to it recently with a view to using it with a navigation app called Back Country Navigator. I know this has worked fine in the past with the my robust Ulephone Armor X5 on Android 9 but at this time it will no longer send or link apps to the watch. I bought another G watch w100 recently as they are very cheap for what I wish to finally do and that has similar issues but at least one app does link across and show up in the apps list. However when I open it it wont fully open. The watches are both working fine with the many google apps available
Is there a simple app that works and just pushes the faces screen of the phone across to the simple G watch. I dont need any watch functionality, just a simple screen copy that follows the phone screen. All functions can be controlled by the screen on the phone.
Neither watch appears to have internet connectivity via the bluetooth on the phone. Any help much appreciated. Is it worth rooting the watch and trying to install later versions of WearOS as some are doing on here. TIA Hugh
I have the same problem. LG G .
