Your feedback about issues with GPS and push (your device+your rom) - Huawei MediaPad X2

@audioralf (thanks to him!!!) did test many roms on the X2, and conclude that B202 from march 6th 2017 is "it's the only x2 firmware will full push notifications support and fixed GPS", I think he was speaking about android 6 firmware only.
About those two issues:
- push notifications seem to be killed in background after a while for apps like whatsapp. (reported on any model ?)
- GPS need to reboot once in a while, to be sure that it localize the device well. Note that all devices are concerned (but as far as I remember, we didn't spot which model is more concerned; 701L, 702L, 703L)
--
I'm wondering if those two issues are really observed by users that did install other very new firmwares:
- B212 Kangvip Slim V3 (september 2017)
- B205 (august 2017)
- B212 Kangvip V3 (july 2017)
- CyanogenMod 13 (march 2017)
- C158B203 (december 2016)

I'm going back to version 2 at the moment, since I hate the yellow page happens in dialer, when I dial a phone number.
- For the push notifications, I am really happy if it's block those chat apps (I don't use whatsapp actually), however facebook messenger is working no problem, another reminder app called life reminder is fine as well. I just add it in Phone manager in battery section.
- GPS is working fine for the moment, I don't need to restart.

Some news from another thread:

my critical apps such as email are not waking up the device for push notifications even though they are set to "Protected" and to "Ignore Battery Optimizations". The only apps which seems to be able to wake up the device is WhatsApp and my Alarm Clock (Alarm Clock xTreme) and the standard SMS Messaging / calls. The notifications immediately arrive either when I wake up the device manually or if a SMS comes in waking up the device; either way, the device needs to be woken up manually by something for the notifications to come through. It seems as if the device is going into some sort of deep sleep and doesn't wake up.

I had problems with notifications and GPS in ROMs prior to B205, in fact, the B205 was the best in this area, because I did not need the build.prop for the GPS to work perfectly. The later ones worked fine by editing build.prop (for GPS) and the notifications never gave a problem. But I've had problems too often for the Google account to work and the supersu asking to update the binary with each reboot. Other than that, all ok. Now, the only problem I'm having is with CM13, of incompatible apps. I really like this device, a pity that has fallen into oblivion.

What is the installation procedure to install the b202 March 2017 version? It was AJ's international slim b202 I installed.... Will my phone still be rooted and unlocked?

To install march 2017 B202, start on a device already regognised as a 702L (if you have a true 702L, or if you install a 702L huawei rom like the taiwan B203), just run the huawei firmware finder android app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tools/general/huawei-firmware-finder-team-mt-t3469146
You might have to reroot after.
You can also try to download the rom by yourself:
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G733/g490/v78383/f1/full/update.zip
And install it with dload and force update (restart with 3 buttons pushed). But that is not sure it will install.

0) make an nandroid backup of your today's ROM
1) be sure to have the stock recovery installed on recovery1 partition: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70225356&postcount=248
2) download https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72221053&postcount=1565 , put the files into dload folder of your external SD card, and start device with 3 buttons pushed
3) if it doesn't work, run huawei firmware finder app and change the model of your phone in it, into 702L
4) if it doesn't work, if your phone is not a 702L turn it into 702L by dload flashing this . Then, when your phone is recognised as a 702L , use huawei firmware finder to incremental installs until install march 2017 B202

IT seems, your goal is to have the GPS and notifications sure to work for any apps. There si no "Simply international B202 ROM" that does that at the moment (until this I guess), so you should post to the dedicated thread to your goal there, that will be useful for people like you, and less off-topic here. AJ's "Simply international B202 ROM" date 5-20-17 was based off the "6th march 2017 B202 ROM".

And this simply international don't boot by itself, as far as I know. Audioralf told that he had to do some internal changes to make it boot (but xposed issues still occur). But if it boots when installed on march2017 Stock B202, that's great.

Simply international was based on that marcg 2017 rom, but never booted. AJ gave up, because he had no device for testing. So send him yours.

2017-06.system.update.B360.k.rom.v.2 please copy to the ExtSd in the TWRP backup folder.
Installation:
Please do not make wipes. Do not delete the cache or dalvik cache. Also no other partition and also no Factoryreset to perform. Later, this is feasible.
In TWRP now my backup restore and reboot.
All partitions; lease do not part recovery.
Your applications, with data and settings, are retained.
If TWRP wants to root, please refuse the request.
Now the ROM installation is complete. An additional installation of SuperSu and BusyBox is not necessary. Both were integrated And configured. There are comprehensive reading and writing rights.
The ROM is partially debloated. Some Google Apps have been removed. They can be installed by you if necessary. You can do that, too Do well with the HiApp.
Please make regular backups. ...... and remember: A custom ROM is Never as perfect as a stock Rom. He has to teach him something.
Never update the app from SuperSu. If it does happen, immediately the app delete and install the SuperSu App from the download package.
Should you ever make a Factoryreset, updated before that Google Account.
Root, K-Settings and the OTA update capability will remain thereafter.
The Rom is to be used very well as a Rescue System. Because it has no data partition, it provides independently a new in the boot process , one if none exists.
Have fun ! I hope my bad English is clear enough. Sorry!

Hi, I have built a custom Rom for my 6x premium. It works with small errors. (Google sync) I will try it for a week. Must remove the small bugs. When the Rom is finished I will post it here. Of course, only if you want it.
It is for the most part stock. Some Googleware is frozen or removed. The known Kangvip settings are installed. As well as the Call Recorder and Viper. It is, like all my Roms for the Mate S, based on a TWRP backup file.

"Build Number: GEM-702LC209B205 Release Date: 01-Aug-2017 Supported Model: GEM-702LC209 (Asia Pacific)" is too slow and laggy.
Also double tab is not working.
Antutu benchmark score is 29412.
Gps fix took 20 minutes minimum.
I returned back to CUST158B203_DEMO Version from Taiwan (December 12th 2016, labelled "demo").
Double tab working.
USA T-Mobile and Germany E-Plus had been tried no problem.
Very smooth.
Camera quality is good.
Antutu score is 42300
Only problem is some of push notifications.
also I downloaded march 2017 b202 update.zip file. Extracted to dload folder. installed with 3 buttons method. Update says ok but after restart when I check "about phone", my device still says CUST158B203.
@bycall : let's continue B202 installation issue in this dedicated thread and post
?? Why so complicated??
I have installed it via FF proxy method. It's simple and have done it about 5 times.
Other mehodes don't work.
You must install standard full b203 or 203 via normal dload and then do the incremental update to March 2017 version.
It can be rooted via systemless root command in TWRP and supersu for that
But xposed won't run because of sellinux problem.
My device: Mate 9 supersu B190 Mediapad X2 GEM 701->703 B212 KangVIP (AJ mod)

Thanks for those details, I did group them here, and test all march 2017 B202 installation methods on 702L device.
Let's get back to B205 here. @bycall did you check GPS and push notifications?
205 Firmware is for the middle East or Asian area.
I don't think there are new features in comparison to 202 or 203.
I don't think neither. According to @bycall, it's a laggy rom!
GPS and push notifications are not working in 205.
*******************
I tried again march incremental update via HFF Proxy method, I couldn't succeed....

I will try factory reset via EMUI and downgrade script. Install full B202 ROM than march update via HFF.
Ok. I've just installed this rom on a true 702L device (moreover it was a 702LC209B006), just to see if I have the same issue as you have on your 701L

I've just installed tid ROM and have more or less the same experience as Djiban.
GPS is working fine
Antutu score is around 49389
Double tap to wake does have an option to turn on, but it's not working.
The ROM it self isn't lagging at all, you just need to let it update all apps after installing the ROM.
I don't know about push notification yet, that I'll have to test further.
The good thing about this ROM is the update in Android security, if only the double tap to wake works.
As I had a minor issue (youtbe video won't launch), and the install wasn't a wiping one, I did a EMUI factory reset to test the B205 in his true shape!

I've installed the ROM on a true 702L device but mine is not a TW version.
I've noticed one strange thing while i was upgrading to this version:
I was running B202 upgrade from B003> B005>B202 ( mine was originally a B006), I've downloaded B205 to my SD card but forgot to unextracted it from the zip files. so I went to do the powerbutton/volume update thingy, and the phone did run the whole update progress.
After it was done I found out that I had "update" my B202 to B005 but strange thing is "charge" was working .
Anyway I was back on B005 and did a local update straight to B205, and everything works fine except from double tap to wake, I haven't got any random reboot , youtube video loads fine, and my notification seems to be fine, I can't say much about if the GPS issue remains because I've just tried google map and the GPS lock seems as fast as back in B005/B006. I'll let it stay for a couple of days before trying to use GPS service again.
I was wondering if we do the upgrade the right way, maybe double tap to wake might work. Was thinking like
B003 > B005/B006 > B202 > B202 > B202 > B203 > B203 > B205.
What do you guys think ?

Warning, all those ROM are not for the same region (C???). For example C209B006, C158B202, C209B203. So the ultra-proper way for me is to respect at least thos C??? in the incremental. Note also that C158B202 update was out after C158B203! . See Huawei Firmware Finder database for all details
Suprinsingly enough also , EMUI update build in finder don't suggest update even if your are on C209B006. Huawei updates seems very regional and limited. According to me Huawei Firmware finder was created cause of that!
I use a 702L with C209B006, and install the full C209B205 package using project menu force update. According to Fimware Finder database, I just miss the C158B203 in my incremental respecting C??? and date of release. But once agin some C158 release could not have been proposed to 702LC158 roms users . So I did:
C209B006 full package > C209B205 full package
I could indeed have tried:
GEM-702LV100R001C209B006 > GEM-702LC209B203CUSTC209D001 ful package> GEM-702LC209B205 full package.
Even though, full package means to me it can be installed on any 702L devices, instead of OTA update file only that need to follow incremental order!

I've been flashing around between C158 and C209 on my device without any issues what so ever, the only annoying thing is the GPS bug that won't work properly after B006.
My device was initially a 702L C09B002 when I bought it, and then updated to C209B006, but my CUST was not C209D001 it was originally CUSTC999D001.
I then update the TW C158B201 > C158B202 > C158B203 made a mistake and updated from C158B203 > C209B005 > C209B205.

All the updates between C158 and C209 haven't give me any trouble beside the GPS signal that requires a reboot once and a while.
On this B205 the GPS seems to works very good I have been using GPS apps( navigation ) for a few days, and so far I haven't reboot the device once, finger cross for it staying this way.
I hope they will fix the double tap to wake function, I don't use that double tap, but if it's not working then we only have a 99% working ROM.
thanks for those details!
so that's C209B006 that brought you GPS issue that you didn't fix until flashing this C205B205?
Note that the 702L I test the B205 on is CUSTC209D001.
no gps issue for me, yet also, But I reboot oftenly
Simply International B202 Xposed (5-20-17).zip
Got AJ's (Simply International B202 Xposed (5-20-17).zip) to work. This ROM is based off the (B202 from march 6th 2017) ROM. What I did was I copied the system folder from (Simply International B202 Xposed (8-4-16).zip) to (Simply International B202 Xposed (5-20-17).zip) but DID NOT overwrite any files, but some files got added from the (8-4-16) system folder. Don't know which files were added though. Then I was able to dirty flash from kangvip v3 to the (5-20-17). Since that worked, I went ahead and did a full wipe and install. Working good do far... I'll keep you posted on "Push and GPS"....

C209B006 was working fine the GPS was working perfectly, the reason for that I updated to C158B201 was to get double tap to wake and dual window mode, these options weren't available on any android 5.0 based ROM, so any rom below B201 haven't got double tap to wake or double window mode.
I was running B203 for a couple of months and decided to go back to B006, but couldn't find the B006 ROM so I went back to B005 TW ROM just to get rid of the annoying GPS issue, funny thing is when i was on B005 TW I was prompted for OTA B202, which I choose to update and got the GPS issue again.
That's where I made that mistake by flashing it back to B005 instead of the B205 ROM, the noticeable thing was my device was able to charge even though i went from a 6.0 ROM back to a 5.0 ROM.

@Aznbull : audioralf propose a direct way to test push notifications:
Did you test push? I found out a direct way to test. The app ebay-keinanzeigen has a message function. I created 2 accounts and set something to sell there with account 1.
With the second account I send a message to user 1. This sends a push message.

Ok, in this week friend, have patience,
You can accelerate all this,
if you could make a backup of the partition version and
upload it to a server and send it
for example, mega

Don't work on mine, and unfortunately brick the device, I recommend to remove the link.
- I followed all the steps
- Installation with success without any error reported.
- One bootloop
- Then restarted in the eRecovery
- I boot into TWRP but it was replaced by stock recovery
- I boot into fastboot mode and fllash TWRP with success as you can see bellow:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp_p20_lite_0.1.img
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'recovery_ramdisk' (24952 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.859s]
writing 'recovery_ramdisk'...
OKAY [ 0.125s]
finished. total time: 0.984s
- But every time that I boot into TWRP, it was replaced by stock recovery.
- After many attempts without success I decided follow the suggestion from xda member x4ever_2, update firmware via eRecovery and it worked.
In my opinion the reason for all this was the FRP, from which device come the FRP?

Thank you for this build.
Does anybody else have the problem that picture-in-picture mode is not working?
I'm watching a video with the German sky go app. Pressing the home button takes me to home screen and does not show the video in the small window.
This was working with the Android 9 build.
The permissions are set for the app.
Thank you for this version.
Warning: I initially tried with GApps Stock (like I did with 16.0) and it totally messed up the system (Pixel Launcher crashed constantly, attempting to log in to Google account resulted in a black screen). Now, with Pico, it seems to work alright.

T520 is not just T525 without LTE. T320, T325 and T525 have Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC's inside, so most of the codebase can be shared between them. T520 has Exynos which is quite different.

No, you won't. Data and Internal Storage will stay intact. This is the procedure I follow when I update from one version of e.g. 17.1 to newer one. Only when upgrading to a new major version do I fully wipe the device.
If you're unsure, backup your stuff with "ROM Settings Backup" and "Titanium Backup" before wiping anything.
THX Great worked ok.
BUT still no sound!
How to check if there is maybe a hardware problem?
I'm going to install this Rom (thanks to developer) , is the sound problem real?
