[Q] Looking for simple one-screen pattern unlocker with trusted connection option - General Questions and Answers

I'm using a Galaxy Note 3 with a recently installed 6.0.1 ROM, and the latest Google forced dual-unlock screens (i.e. where you need to swipe one screen away before getting to the actual pattern unlock screen) is really annoying me. I've searched, and tried lots of apps from the Play store, but nothing seems to do exactly what I want.
In fact, I really only have two requirements, which is why it seems so strange that I can't seem to find an app that fits amongst all the bells and whistles out there:
1) Initial pattern-unlock tool should be visible immediately after the phone is woken by the Power or Home buttons (i.e. no swiping away another redundant screen first).
2) 'Smart-Unlock' style feature to bypass the wake/unlock screen entirely when the phone is connected to a trusted Wi-Fi (home) or Bluetooth (car) connection. (Local connections preferred rather than GPS/etc location, as Android's Location feature can be a bit patchy inside our house)
Notifications, apps or widgets on the lock screen are not required, but I wouldn't object if they were available as options.
Can anyone suggest an app which fulfills both of the above requirements?

[WM6.1/touch pro] looking for a screen lock application

Hello,
I've been browsing a lot for a lock application for WM6.1 (htc touch pro), but without success.
I'm looking for these features:
Lock the device manually and power off the display(requiring a code on unlock/poweron/soft reboot) - built-in device lock has only timed lock which is unusable for me. A key assigment feature would be good.
(example for such a feature - nokia's security keyguard)
Low resource requirements - there is a software called pocket secure, but is very slow.
Normal graphic look - does not need to have vista aero hardcore look, but also not something from 90's
Any tips for such a software?
Seriously, this is almost ridiculous! Have you searched any? Maybe "lock application"?
I just did this search, and look what I found! And on the first page too!!!!
ThrottleLock!
The problem with throttle lock is that it doesn't unblock automatically on calls, which mess up with s2a. Otherwise is great, but this little thing kills the whole thing for me.

I have the same requirements for a locking app... ThrottleLock now has the option not to hide notifications, and on the whole, the HTC S2A appears over the top of ThrottleLock, even when it is locking the device. You might want to try version 0.5.1 again (the developer added this option without changing the version number).
All the best,
Martin

[Q] Mute sound when screen turns off app

Does anyone know of an app or way to automatically have Android mute the sound when the screen is turned off and then set it back to its original level when the screen comes back on? Unlike with phones where this obviously wouldn't be desirable, for tablets that often sit in your room etc. it seems that this could be desirable behavior.
If nothing exists I think I may do this as my first "Android development" project! I'd like to see if anyone else thinks this would be of interest too!

Check out "Tasker" in the market.. It's like $6 but its one of my must have android apps.. Does all kinds of things based on events/triggers.. For instance, on my tablet when wifi near DOES NOT equal "home network" it toggles on the pattern lock, otherwise it's the slide to unlock option..

Sounds cool. Will be helpful for work where device is supposed to lock when linked to Exchange.

Smart Lock and Trusted Places Bug

I am running stock Android 5.0 on my Nexus 5 (rooted). I recently got the Trusted Places feature in Smart Lock.
I did not want to use Google Maps Home & Work due to the inaccuracies. So I created a custom place. It showed up and the feature worked beautifully.
However, I went to the list of Custom Places, and I renamed this location to "Home". It disappeared from the list. I can no longer delete or rename it. What is worse is that Trusted Places is ALWAYS on for this location. I cannot even turn that off. This seriously compromises privacy/security. I tried turning Google Maps Home on, and all I get is "Home, Home" under Trusted Places.
I would like to point out that both Home & Work from Google Maps are OFF. Someone pointed out that it may have to do with Google Now "My Places", but even then, I cannot turn off the Smart Lock feature.
Someone also pointed out that the same behavior happens if the custom place was renamed "Work".
Anyone encountered this bug? I just want to turn off Trusted Places completely!!!

I'm having the exact same issue, I just wan't to turn off Smart Places but I can't because I renamed one of the places as "Home" and now I can't delete it. ):
Apparently, Google fixed this in the latest Google Play Services 6.5.87. You can find a compatible version at apkmirror.com.
I also noticed that if we lock the screen with a 3rd party widget/app (eg screen off and turn off the screen) then trusted places won't work and we need to enter the pin. It only works if power button is used to lock screen or it locks after screen timeout.

Yes, same here when I use the PowerToggles widget to lock the screen.

User Interface suggestions: WIDGETS for Common Apps

Would like to see more Widgets for common apps. It is so cool to have a photo gallery, but It takes numerous clicks to open it, Also I use Voice MEMO all of the time, again would be nice to have a widget that can be added to the quick launch. How about requirement for a Widget for ALL Apps (except clockfaces)
Would be nice to disable and remove certain apps, Nike+, and other bloatware.
The SOS is a nice feature, HOWEVER the watch needs screen needs to be on to activate it, that's okay but then it's three clicks to activate (one to turn on, two to activate) and timing may be an issue. I would suggest perhaps a screen rotate first (to turn on screen) then a double tap. (to avoid accidental SOS, yes this has happened to me).
Keep up the great work XDA, been here for many products, mostly Samsung Phones, Note 10.4, etc.

Sadly disappointed with various limitations and recurring issues

I received the phone and have been using it since 2/10. I have the 8/256gb version with the Chinese ROM. The phone is awesome with regards to build quality and so on, but I'm extremely frustrated with the issues that I'm seeing daily. I'm ready to ditch it and return to my Xiaomi Mi Mix.
Notifications are all turned off by default and every app notification must be turned on individually. So every new app needs this manual step.
Notifications, even if enabled correctly, lock screen, does not show up on the lock screen
Various apps do not receive new "data" such as emails until opened. (runs in background, just noticed the application freeze option, and turned that off)
Device Administrator removes MS Outlook as device admin regularly, used to be daily. (required by work)
When plugged into USB-C for Android Auto, must change setting to Transfer files, every time in order to activate Android Auto.
Resets Assistive Voice App nightly, removes Google Assistant and elects none, not even breeno voice.
Depending on task, it switches to use the Breeno Browser instead of Chrome as an intermediary and therefore does not fully like to the next task.
Swiping down on home screen brings up breeno search via breeno browser.
Cannot activate Location Sharing Services even if Location is turned on. I think this has to do w/ limitations on the "Region"
Things that I know does not work
Cannot use 3rd party messaging app. Once 3rd party app is set as default, it switches back to Oppo msgs app due to "security"
Cannot use another Launcher.
Cannot use Google Assistant wake up phrase
Can anyone else confirm if you're also experiencing the above? I'm willing to reset the phone but I think these are "defaults" and not like a choice I made during set-up to cause these issues. Thanks for reading.
The issues you mention are common and are part of the challenge of owning a phone with a Chinese rom. The trade-off is that you own a unique phone with awesome hardware.
I have been able to get all notifications to work though adjusting the notification options as you say, but you can also adjust the power saver and start-up options. You can also lock apps in the recent tasks screen.
You can also uninstall some of the built-in Chinese apps via adb. See the thread in the Find X forum. For example I have uninstalled the browser so it never comes up. I have not uninstalled the launcher as I am ok with the Oppo one.
Issues I have not been able to resolve: changing the default messaging and assistant apps for the long term.
For me, I know the experience of buying a phone with a Chinese rom is never going to be as smooth as a pixel or Samsung in terms of usability, but I love the fact that it is unique and appreciate the hardware (eg charging speed).
Unfortunately, the uniqueness of the phone does not overwhelm these limitations that causes daily resetting of certain defaults for me.
I'm ok w/ not using the Launcher and some other items like google assistant. However, other limitations really create barriers that can't be looked past for me.
I think I'll look for an opportunity to get the Xiaomi Mi 10 pro when possible and sell the Reno Ace.
