Verizon unlock - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I realize there are 1,000,000,000 different threads about unlocking the Verizon Pixel bootloader on 7.1.1/7.1.2, but do you guys think it'll be more possible when Android O is released?

So you just felt the need to make it a billion and one? Lovely.

[WIP][DEVS] CyanogenMod for LG G5

Hi all,
I started working on the LG G5 a way back .. and now that we've got the device in stores I guess it's time to work all together to bring it up !
STATUS
- [02/04/2016] All the US Carriers/Sellers locked the bootloaders so NO TWRP possible and consequently NO CM possible
CURRENT GOALS
- Thought, all the Europe variants will be for sure unlocked so we need to prepare the sources for it
- Here is where all the sources are pushed https://github.com/G5Devs
ETA :
- The tree is made
- The vendor is made
- The kernel is made
TODO :
- Clarifying kernel sources
- Add the ramdisk to the device
- Split the g5 to g5-common and all the under variants
This thread is not a thread to release builds, it's about contributing all together into this bringup in order to get the nicest thing out of it when the bootloaders will become unlockable.
I hope we'll can work all together !
Does no twrp mean no roms at all and can certain stuff be done via adb?

Anything about the Canadian variants? I presume they will be like the US ones.

It does unlock, but the DM-VERIFY is still presenting a no-go.
Evidently LG is using a custom type of bootloader.

I'm not sure if this would or could help, but this how some managed to get an unlocked bootloader on a htc device.

only for that specific device(s) on HTC
HTC has a portal that allows you to unlock bootloader for that specific device (hence the need to copy+paste token to HTC's portal and get the unlock key)
no doubt HTC will void warranty immediately in their system when you input token
LG doesn't have this (yet? i hope)
Yeah, was just a thought. Haven't owned a LG in some time, been on the Samsung wagon. The G5 is on my watch list of devices I might get, I like the design. I'll try to see if I can find something that might be more constructive to the cause. The HTC link was the first thing I could think of that I've dealt with.
I see that LG has release a tool for the G4 and that's device specific and seems to work on the European devices.
Totally willing to contribute monetarily if this will help any developers out. I don't have much else but really want to help get this phone broken open and fixed up good!

Maybe when everything will be finished to improve module compatibility.
PS : NEWS : I'm mostly done making the variant specific trees and kernel. But I want the kernel to be clean.. So it's slow..
Any status updates? I'm following this stuff like a hawk haha
Been reading around trying to gather information
How do you test to see if your handset has the DM verify second bootloader lock?
I am hoping to get my UK unbranded unlocked retail H850 unit on Friday, so am happy to test any restrictons, but don't know how to check for this?
If I buy a g5 from best buy would it still have the locked bootloader?

In order to support the Galaxy S8/S8+ on XDA with the LIGHT PATCH we need to have a Thread/Device Maintainer before! If You would like to know more take a look right here:

The Snapdragon Version? That means Samsung forces European customers to buy the Exynos Variant which is unlockable while the US gets the Snapdragon which is locked?
What kind of slaving is this? Looks like Samsung don't wants us to use AOSP so we have to buya new Device every Year to get the latest Android!?
I would really like to support the Users of the Samsung Devices but i'm sad to hear that it will not happen yet :/ What about the S7? Has anyone cracked it?

As long as root is available and the System R/W it will work. Cross My Fingers for the S8 Snapdragons! It is really a great Device on the Hardware Side...
I've experienced the same locked Bootloader Story with the LG G5 which means for Me less Users all over XDA. Really a bummer! Looks like i go back to Sony which are Worldwide unlockable (except for some strange Carriers in the far East). They are also very open to XDA and the custom Szene around Android which is unique somehow. I've to support them...
Thanks for the Infos Mate!

Could have done without the smart ass ad-libbing. If you're an admin or moderator you could simply move it. Or better yet. Politely instruct me on where it would better be suited.

That's a tough question without knowing how long you've had the device, are you locked and unrooted now, do you use Android Pay and most of all what do you need or expect to gain from unlocking and root? Personally, I'd just leave the oem unlock toggle enabled and stick with a locked bl on stock rom, at least for a while. If you can't stand it or just need to mess around then unlock and flash. Just not enough info to make an informed suggestion, however.
Personally, it's worth it just for ad-blocking alone. I also am a fan of being able to use Titanium Backup. It's so nice setting up scheduled cloud backups of apps so that you know if anything ever happened to your device you'd still have all your data. But if you're at all interested in tinkering with your device I'd say it's worth doing.

It depends on if you are wanting to do something that requires it to be unlocked. If all you want to use is Exposed, and given that it's not running on 7.1, then I would say no. You need to give us more to go on.

random thought

I'm not a developer, but ran across this while surfing xda. I realize that the pixel isn't a Moto device, but could someone take this example and fix it for the pixels that are locked tight?
Link (concept): Moto G4 Play Amazon bootloader/root
What they're using for example/to gain root: initroot
This is just a thought and I'm not quite sure how to use it, but I know there has got to be someone that does/could use this to gain at least root for the locked bootloader pixels from VZW.
Nope, only affects Moto bootloaders.

but if you look at the stuff on the github, they're using dirty cow. is dirty cow patched by google? god, I wish I could find exploits that would let me gain temp root, but unfortunately, i'm not good at that stuff.
Dirty cow was released in 2007, Debian patched the old kernel in 20l6 and canonical (ubuntu) followed after that for there live iso. Ubuntu is built from debian

Where did I say it was patched in 2007 ?
Android kernel is based on Linux, Linux is the kernel not the operating system
The current kernel in gnu/Linux is 4.12, earliest kernel patch for dirty cow was 3.2
Android I believe now is like 3.10, but, I don't know when Android patched it.

I'd love to see if this is something that could work on the pixel. I'd love to be able to unlock the bootloader and have my go at this phone, but I'm not even sure where to start looking..
Why would you need this for the pixel?
The pixel is easy to unlock the bootloader and root, unless your on Verizon or the other one in Europe.
You couldn't pay me to use Verizon and that is even with a corporate discount.
