2 SIM cards + SD Card Mod? - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Hi there!
I am currently looking at the HTC U11 for my next phone and was wondering if anybody tried to put 2 SIM cards together with a microSD to expend the storage?
I am using 2 SIMs permanently but still would love to be able to use the SD card to extend/backup the storage.
I know this trick worked on some Dual Sim phones (e.g. Samsung S7), with some cutting/DIY work but would it work on the U11?
Thanks

I have tried this with am old sim card and SD card.
But my advice is, don't do this.
The tray needs to much force to press it in. That's no problem. But to get it out that would be a problem.
As the phone is not easy to get in. It would be a repair job for professionals.

You can buy a small tool in China which is very simple but it looks not so good.

That would leave the SD card hanging outside the phone... hmm...
I guess it's OK, since most people uses a case anyways, so it can be hidden inside the case.

My friend in Vietnam has done successfully without any extra external simcard board, https://forum.xda-developers.com/u11/how-to/modification-simcard-putting-2-simcards-t3762635

[Q] Did you had to replace your SIM card after using XT720 for a while?

like the topic says
did any of you had to replace your SIM card after using XT720 for a while? like after a few months or few weeks?
i know a friend of mine he had to change his SIM card after a few weeks
and now my own XT720 is constantly losing the SIM card, until i reboot the phone
if i take out the SIM card i see 2 contact spot that seems to be worn, which was previously normal.
it seems to be related to how often you use the Vibrate option
replacing a new SIM card with the network provider fixes the issue of course.
just wanted to see if other have experienced this issue
thanks
I know generally on WIND, sim cards tend to burn out for some reason. Haven't experienced it myself but I know its a frequent occurrence with some.
Yea I had the same problem. Cincinnati bell replaced my sim card for free. I originally had a regular sim card and they bumped me up to the 3g card. Which was no different but a different color. I lost service all together and it wouldn't return. Its prolly the oven Motorola hid in this thing heating the card up.

I had to replace mine within a few months, and I am also on WIND. Though, mine was an older generation (white SIM card), and they upgraded me to the 'Blackberry generation', which has the black color.
No, ive been using this sim card since 7 years lol on multiple phones and its seen countless hours of vibration. Really weird that you mention it because Im sure the carriers in my country make the ****tiest sim cards.
I've been using my XT720 on WIND with the black SIM card since Sept.2010 no failures yet.

That is funny bc I have been using my same one for about 6 years too. Now that I say that though, it will probably peter out on me. Crap....
I've been using this SIM card since 2 yrs ago and I switch it from one phone to another a lot. it's pretty worn-out by now. but still, it's working perfectly with my XT. no problems yet.

I used my sim card from an old phone when buying this and the cbw rep. put it in for me but failed to tell me it wasn't a 3g sim card. So now I have a 3g sim card and it is better. You all with old sim cards sure they are 3g cards? Just askin just in case lol.

Ya, luckily, my 2 yrs old card is HSDPA capable sim card. (Thanks to StarHub) ;D
that's a good point you guys bring up
all the SIM cards that "burned" / "worn", or whatever might have happened to them were the white ones
the black ones are fine
sorry for the false alarm guys, seems like it was a WIND specific problem with a crappy batch of white SIM cards
Yes I had to replace my sdcard. The one that came with the phone became corrupted when I was running 2.1 a while back. I bought a class 6 and it has worked better but lately I keep finding files becoming corrupted out of the blue...
*edit* sorry wrong thread I thought it said SDCARD
Sim card never been replaced since i inserted it back in Feb 2011 so 6 months
Was using an X10i and it constantly had issues with sim card, its dropped it like every 30 min.
I had to swap etc.
Alternative was to get a replacement in some weird shop. I didnt go for it.
Got an xt720 ad only looked back to sigh and x10's getting 2.3
I have not had to replace it per-say, but I have had to remove it once or twice and put it back in because the phone said my SIM card was not in the device.

[Q] SIM Card Reader does not Recognise HTC HD7 Windows 7 SIM?

Hi
I have recently bought a SIM Card Reader which does not Recognise my HTC HD7 Windows 7 SIM, but does work fine with other SIMs I have. Now I have never used a card reader before so may well be doing something wrong. Two things that make me wander if the reader is faulty or I am not using the correct software is that; it was a very cheap reader; and the sims that were read appeared to have very little data on them - possibly because the contacts were saved to the phone not sim?
In any case, it would not read my sim for the HTC at all.
Does anyone know if this is normal for a windows 7 sim or do I need a different / replacement reader?
thanks

SIM cards are of a standardized format and are not different in different devices. Otherwise that defeats the purpose of being able to easily swap SIM cards between devices.
Either the SIM card is damaged or the reader may be faulty, or other unknown issues.
its normal that you cant read your wp7 phone sim card, since your phone locked it with some undocumented functions and encrypted it with a password aswell. the only way to make your sim card readable right now is to find someone with a nokia phone, format your sim card on that phone ( since those seem to be the only ones that are able to read the sim card ) and then it should be readable by your reader.

I think you're confusing SIM card with the micro SD card. Completely different.

Hello, I purchased a galaxy tab 7 plus in Hong Kong. All work great until 2 days ago,

Hello, I purchased a galaxy tab 7 plus in Hong Kong. All work great until 2 days ago, I inserted another Sim card then it now says no Sim card. I tried with several other Sim cards but no luck, I did a factory reset, flashed with firmware from Sam mobile but still no luck, I don't know what else to do before I send it to Samsung for repair that gonna be expensive, help is greatly wanted, thank you.

Try to insert the sim card with the tablet on. Does it restart? If not are you sure you are inserting it with the correct side?
Hello, thanks for the answer, I tried all that already, anyway the Sim only fit in one position so you cannot take wrong.
The tab restarts when inserting card yes.
I tried also taking the battery out for 10 mins... Clean the head of the Sim compartment but no luck.

Just removed the back by pushing under the sd card slot then inserted a flat tool to unclip the lid, then removed the batery connector.
However i still have the issue, its driving me crazy as it is my working tool...
does the original SIM still work in it?
perhaps try flashing original & latest frimware updates for new/different modem.
I know one chinese version of tab plus has locked bootloaded dud to China's restrictions, I would not be surprised if they have locked down modem as well.
And for the heck of it you could always try Galaxy S Unlock app, to be certain you're unlocked.
Strongly suggest backing up /EFS folder (twice) just in case.
Thanks for the suggestion, I flashed the device twice already but there is only one file. Could you direct me to the files you are referring to please I'll take a look when I'm back home, thanks again.

I would try EVERYTHING else before flashing a new modem. Toggle airplane mode. disable/enable packet data, etc.
First, does the original SIM still work?
If so I would give the Galaxy S Unlock a shot for the heck of it.
These other SIMs have you tried them in other devices to either make sure they work or activate them?
did you purchase device on a SIM contract??
sim issue
The original sim does work, i have put it in other phones and it works fine, i have also tried other sim but still same issue, message still say "please insert sim card"
I have purchased the tab sim free in hk so no, no contract, it did work fine since december until 2 days ago where i input a data only sim card, when i insert sim card it does reboot, meaning it detects the card in the socket but thats it.
Concerning Galaxy S Unlock my tab is not rooted i have used only legit firmware until now so im not sure about that.
PS: looking at my phone servie status it says:
Service State: Out of service
Are you sure you havent been sold a bad or expired sim card?
Id try to give samsung customer support a call at least, they will probably tell you to send it to them anyway.
Can you try exchanging this for another one where you puchased it?
Well, i bought it during my holidays in hk but i live in norway, so... bit difficult to chage it, the sim card works just fine in other devices so it should work in tab.
I tried the galaxy s unlock and during step 1 it says error for efs backup, so either because im not rooted or because my efs is corrupted.
Probably because youre not rooted.
Im wondering if the SIM could be from a small provider which isnt recognized by the device?
It should at least dected then say something like network provider unrecognized, etc.
I really dont what to say.
I would keep trying other sims, try to get a 5$ pre pay from a major carrier like O2, 3, tmobile, etc. not sure what carriers you have over there.
Well i use Telenor which is the biggest and also quite big in europe, i will call customer service tomorrow and hear what they say, but i fear its gonna rip my pockets...

did you push the simcard all the way to the bottom of the slot?
I need a pen to push it....so I wonder if you insert your sim card properly.

yes, since the first time, repair shop said they cannot help since device has been purchased in hong kong...
No solutions until today...
Solved
After dismantling the tab completely (hard work guys...) i confirm that the sim card reader is defect, the cushions that reads the card did not press completely on it so i applied a temporary fix by adding an extra layer to thicken the card so it can press correctly on the cushions. I did try this fix before with the tablet in one piece, however i could not get it to work correctly.
Anyway thanks for your help and i'm happy that i can use it again

SimCard Adapter

Hey, I've loving the review about the Htc One looked at S & yes the phone is sent with a MicroSim ...
I would like to set my phone, but still have an old sim that is great and I would like to keep my old phone number and ask my is:
Can I have my SIM CARD & big punch then the MicroSimAdapter the old card in the Htc One & S put it all work?
that makes no sense .
Do you mean can you cut an original SIM down to size for the One S ? If so the answer is maybe. Some chips are bigger than others so it might not work. Ask you provider for a micro sim, They are free.
If you meant can you use a micro SIM and use an adapter to use that SIM in another phone ? The answer is yes, you can..

hi , this happens mostly when you insert a corrupted sim card .for example you cut it for creating micro sim and didn't do well . please be careful be aware of any pressure and hard action when you are trying to insert sim card .
anyway , you should show issue to a expert shopper to look accurately .

The HTC One S did have problems with the SIM card locking in place or something similar. I believe it was just loose and the SIM card couldn't be read. You should try and get a new SIM, if that doesn't work it is your phone.

My son try to help me and cut the sim. End up with broken sim tray and had to replace($89 at shop). Then I got the micro sim from carrier. 2 weeks latter I get the "no sim" message. Had to re-set the sim. Work for next week and happen again. Then I read about the "tape trick". Put 1 or 2 layers of clear tape on back of sim and the problem was gone. 3 months, and still do not have sim problem. I learn that most of the micro sim devices have that problem ( HTC and Samsung).
