U.S. release - July 10th - Nokia 6 Guides, News, & Discussion

Apologies if this has already been covered, but they've opened up pre-orders for the U.S. market. You can get one for $50 off if you're a Prime member but you have to deal with lockscreen ads... no thank you!!!
https://www.amazon.com/Nokia-Unlocked-T-Mobile-Exclusive-Lockscreen/dp/B071VZKDDP/
Wondering if I should get this or wait and see if they're going to release the 5 for the U.S. market...

I too am debating on wether to get this device or go for the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra to replace my Nexus 6.

they are saying July 10th, I wonder if I pre-order now when I will receive it.
I have AT&T, looks like its not fully 4G compatible... from what I have seen ATT has LTE 17 as the main band, 5 as secondary and 2,4,29,30 as backup in other markets. and the Nokia 6 only has FDD LTE:Band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 28

Those are probably the band for the international version because if that were the case it wouldn't be compatible with Tmobile as well.

interesting, I copied/pasted those band numbers directly from the Nokia site for the 6.
from the Amazon listing it says:

EDIT: did a search and Ars is stating it has these bands:
Networks:
•GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
•WCDMA: Band 1, 2, 4, 5, 8
•LTE: Band 2, 3, 4, 7, 12/17, 28, 38

I asked on Nokia's mobile fb page about the missing band 12 on the spec sheet and this is what they replied:
We don't have those details confirmed yet, Chad, but we'll have more updates to share very soon, so stay tuned to our FB page ?
Was going to purchase this phone but not if it's missing the most important band on t mobile.

curious why Ars has 12/17 listed on their band coverage list
I looked around and found that Nokia submitted some stuff to the FCC for changes and this pictures was on a post:
https://www.androidheadlines.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Nokia-6-FCC-Changes_3-800x432.png

I have AT&T and don't use my data that often, so not [really] affected by the missing band... but I found out there's no LED notification light on the non-Chinese versions! Whaaaaaaa. Between that and the lack of development for root access, I might just get a Z Play. (Have been eyeballing the keyboard attachment Mod so that also helps with my decision.)

yea the missing LED notifications really bummed me out, that is one thing I loved about my Nexus 5X
it was so nice just to look over and see that something was up instead of having to pick it up

I am in the same boat. Have perfectly working Nexus 6 (custom rom/kernel and aging battery), can't convince myself Nokia 6 is worth it.

The Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra has my attention. Ive asked T-Mobile USA if the device will work on VOLTE and maybe even see wifi calling.

US Availability?

is this going to be available in the US and if so, does anyone know about carriers who will support/have it? I know, it was just announced last week, just curious if the rumor mill has been active yet?
thanks in advance.
**UPDATE**
Just emailed Huawei on their site and this is what they posted back:
From Sanjay Srikonda at 9/25/14 5:13 PM

I don't think this will be available in USA. But may if you buy it as an International phone for some $600+ this might work on AT&T. I need advice on the LTE data bands. I saw somewhere AT&T uses band 17 (700MHz) for LTE which I don't see in this phone. Not sure. But somewhere I have gut feeling this works with AT&T 100% right out of the box. Voice works for sure but data is what I doubt. I get 30Mbps download and 12 Mbps upload on my AT&T LG G2 here in Dallas Texas. Some times I get even more up to 50 Mbps download. Can Mate 7 (International) do the same?
Please suggest. Thanks in advance.

This may be a "duh" question, but if it supports AT&T's network does that mean it will support T-Mobile's network as well? As both are GSM?

Yes Voice works for sure. But LTE bands not sure. T-mobile has AWS 12, 4, and 2 bands for LTE. My knowledge is limited only to so much. I don't see band 12 in the phones compatibility list. So can't tell if 4 and 2 are good enough.
Same goes for AT&T LTE bands (2,4, and 17). I don't see band 17 in the phones compatibility list. So can't tell if 4 and 2 are good enough for LTE. I too need an expert advice on this.
But the attached article above about Mate 2 in USA suggests the phone working with AT&T and T-mobile LTE bands. If Mate 2 can do it Mate 7 can do it too.

It supports

T-Mobile mostly use the 1700 (4) and 1900 (2) for 4G if I remember correctly. I don't think that the 700 (12) is up and running yet. I guess we'll have to wait until someone actually gets their hands on one and tries it for any real confirmation. But I have a strong suspicion that the AM7 will work on T-Mobile's network without any issue.
Huawei specifically released the Mate 2 in the US and included the bands for the US. So, don't assume unless it specifically lists the correct bands. Without full band support, I would not buy.

Agreed. I did read that they created GetHuawie.com specifically to sell the mate 2 to US customers. If they wanted to expand to the US with the Mate 2, I am "hoping" that it is a no-brainer that they will quickly do the same with the Mate 7 since that will surely be much more of a hit. I want one...

Think about it this way, the longer we wait, the more issues will be surfaced in the initial release of this device. The wait shouldn't be too long, but the bootloader might become unlocked, a few ROMs get made for this, I see only positives in waiting for a US-compatible version.
The price may even go down because by then there will be more on the market by then.

Has there been any confirmation about whether the bootloader is locked or not?
Edit: I checked what the package includes and the following was in the list > 4G:FDD-LTE:B1(2100MHz)/B3(1800MHz),TDD-LTE:B41(2555-2575MHz)
It supports FDD which is in use in the US and Canada but not the bands we use
Hey, no big deal. One thing the Mate2 did, at least for me, is made me realize, you don't need a super duper pixel screen and a screaming
processor to be a fast device. I came from a Note1, unlocked to the Mate2 and was blown away how good it actually is.
Clear bright screen, fast, responsive, no issues, even on JB4.3. I'm not a pixel peeper or one that tries to squeeze every drop of performance to make my benchmark scores look good. If it is stable and runs, it's good enough for me.
Unless the Mate7 has a similar price point to the Mate2 (which I doubt), I'll stick with the Mate2, even if the software doesn't get updated to 4.4
Heck, I left my note1 on 4.1.2 because it was STABLE.
right now for me it's either between the mate 7 and the new nexus that may or may not be coming out. Honestly while i slightly favor the Nexus line, i had a mate 2 for a while and was very satisfied with it especially the battery life. For me it's all about price, if there will be a release for the U.S and the price is right i'll wait for the mate 7 but if there is no info by the time the Nexus is said to come out then i might get that. Lost my mate 2 so i'm using burner phones at the moment. Saving my money for either or, i want the mate 7 more than the nexus but i'm almost sure that the mate 7 will cost more than it's predecessor.

SM-G955F SM-G955FD on AT&T and LTE band 30 missing

It seems that S8/S8+ from AT&T as well as the unlocked SM-G955U have band 30
However the G955F and G955FD seem to not have it...
Question to International version buyers and that have AT&T, how much do you care about band 30?
Do you believe their will be a Dual sim phone with band 30 launched at future date?
Does the International model have band 12? I checked Samsung UAE and it lists band 12 but on Amazon it doesn't have it.

From experience using the international version on any USA carrier can be risky. If you live in a big city you should get normal service most of the time. You won't be able to get the carrier aggregation that AT&T uses band 30 for though so when the network is congested your service will be noticeably effected.
Also if it is still missing any of the low bands you will have a hard time getting a good signal in rural areas as well. For the most part you will want to make sure you have access to Bands: 2, 4, 12, 17. that will cover the majority of your needs. Bands 29, and 30 really only come in with the carrier aggregation. but without them you will notice slower speeds or no signal at all at big events.
I tried out an international S7e after I had to relinquish my Note 7, for me it was not worth it. Root is becoming less needed now, custom ROMs break TOO much functionality (Samsung Pay, Android Pay, Work Email, Banking Apps, etc) and the things I loved root for, display scaling, ad blocking, Viper4Android, Themes, are becoming less needed, due to compatible things being offered on stock. Just not worth it anymore for slight tweaks and marginal performance increases.

Well I made a drastic decision last night and got the AT&T version at Best Buy, they have a $35 14 day return policy. So I thought I can always return it and get an International version.
12 hours into s8+ 955U, I am impressed. It runs much smoother as my s7e 128gb G9350 black pearl .... was worried that like with the s7e I was going to feel more of these little delays that I had on s7e snapdragon but not on Exynos... this is not the case.
Other comments:
- smartlinked transfered, contacts, pictures, sms, etc but only 70% of the apps...
- Like everything except that the finger printer scanner location will take me another few days to unlock efficiently...
Oh and my 9 year told me, "Dad, why did you tell mom that you bought a new phone, it looks exactly the same as before just a little longer, she would never have noticed!"

I paid full price, but have an account with AT&T. I switch phones a lot and resell them on ebay.
By the way an ATT store NY wanted an extra $25 for a sim card that I did not need and then they said "sorry Sir you can not buy it for $850 we only sell no contract phones after one month"
THat is why I went to Best Buy... Ordered on the app, got an email 35 minutes, and picked up the phone....effortless..... went home switch the sim card for s7e to s8+, few setup clicks, smartlink and just had to reinstall two dozen apps that did not make it over

I unlocked many iphones on the At&T protal it usually takes 1-3 business days and was smooth.
Switched to Android for the Note 7 (!) and Knox and only bought international versions until last night.
Will unlock this in 60 days, as their is a 60 day delay... it better works as I will travel internationally in 66 days !!

That's not accurate for the S8 international unlocked variant this year.
According to the FCC listing it supports the following US bands 12, 17, 13, 26, 5, 66, 4, 25, 2, 41 so aside from band 30 it has all the bands needed to work great on AT&T and T-Mobile.
It also has carrier aggregation with US bands with the following combinations:
2+12
4+12
4+17
12+12
66+17
41+41
66+66
and 3 band carrier aggregation at the following bands:
4+12+12
66+12+66
41+41+41
It's interesting that this year the international version includes Verizon and Sprint LTE bands but not CDMA bands (so not sure how will that work on those two networks).

You keep mentioning this FCC stuff but im not sure why a phone meant for sale and use in countries outside the USA would be contacting our FCC?

Every phone model that wants to be allowed to enter the US (either if you are a foreigner and would like to come with it to the US or if you are a retailer who would like to import it to the US) must get FCC certified to makes sure it follows US wireless guidelines, does not cause interference with frequencies used in the US and has acceptable SAR levels.

Can you send a link that actually works with proof the F and FD international versions ever applied for FCC certification?

Check "SAR Report 1" for the "proof" on the frequencies I stated earlier in the thread.

Can you confirm this?
You do know that the petition means absolutely nothing. Unless you get a couple off million signatures, no one will even notice. If you want the device then import it. Just dont be surprised if not everything works.
I imported mine. It works just fine on tmobile and att.

I am thinking of doing the same. Where did you get it from and for how much in USD? Was shipping expensive?
PS: Been following all your videos on the u11 and u11+

I was lucky enough to have a friend pick it up at an HTC store and ship it to me directly. There seem to be a few people on eBay selling the phone already, but it'll probably be another 2-3 weeks before online retailers start selling the device.

could you start a small review thread, especially related to the battery life? thanks
have you had an U11 also? If so, how does the sound of the top/bottom boom speaker compare to that.
If it is compatible with all AT&T bands I might get one as well. What all carriers is the UK version fully compatible with in the US?
Query about TMO

Hi Nick
Can I ask a few questions?
I am considering importing the U11+ from Taiwan.
I am on TMO which uses these LTE Bands - 2, 4, 12, 66, 71
The U11, which I currently have has these - 2, 4, 12, 66
The U11+ only has these bands - 4, 12
Now, I used LTE Discovery and found that my phone was 90% on Band 4, with 2 and 12 used once in a while.
What are your thoughts on U11+ working fine for my use case? It does have Band 4, 12 but am worried the lack of other bands may create issues in some other locations.
It does have 1900 MHZ (Band 2) for 3G/2G, so I think if I go into an area which has Band 2, I can only get 3G speeds.
Hope I am not causing too much trouble.
Thanks
Nilesh

Purchase for Verizon

Hello,
If I wanted to get this phone for Verizon were would I get is and will it work with current bands?
Also were would someone purchase one here in the US? Can it be shipped over seas?
Thanks,
It does not support CDMA, so no Verizon or Sprint.
Were can we buy this phone. Switching to at&t.
Also I notice there is no Otter box for this phone? What would you all recommend for a case?
Depends where you are. Honor sells it on their hihonor site and I'm sure Amazon will have it.
In my experience, Huawei/Honor cases are few and far between. I've ordered three off Amazon for preparation but none are heavy duty like an Ottercase. They're slim TPU cases.

You need the North American version; the international and Chinese versions don't have 4G LTE FDD bands supported by AT&T and T Mobile; if you bought one of those you'd end up with a crippled,low-speed phone unabe to connect to LTE. Huawei has not released an ETA on the North American version of the View 10. My guess is that it might not arrive before Q2. It's going to be released in Mexico in the spring, I believe. Mexico uses some of the same FDD bands as AT&T, as do Rodgers and Bell in Canada.
WONDERFUL! Thanks for your insight.
I imagine there is no model # yet then for NA version?
Thanks,
It should arrive before the 2nd quarter of the year. I'm guessing no later than mid February. The US store for the Honor View 10 opened about two days ago with the View 10 listed as Out Of Stock, so they're preparing.

Not that I've been able to find. Huawei hasn't released pricing for this region, either. If units don't start shipping to the US by May, look to see if you find it available in Mexico. If so, that may be a sign that they won't ship the Honor View 10 directly to the US, in hopes of unloading the more expensive Huawei Mate 10 Pro inventory that they have in stock now the deal with AT&T deal fell through.

Glad to see that they restored the View 10 pages for North America. They had them up,then took them down before the 8 Januäry 2018 launch, which was supposed to have included us. Questions asked about what was happening went unanswered by Huawei. Now if they'll just give us a shipping date and price for View BKL-L04.

Anybody know what the difference is between the "Honor View 10" and the one named just "Honor 10"?
(are these the same phone, or actually different models?)

I have the l09 and it gets lte

I'm considering getting this phone next

I was surprised how well this phone is supported on XDA and it looks quite good on paper, i have 1 question i cannot find answer to:
Does this phone support Carrier Aggregation in Europe? (4G+)
It you buy EU version then yes. If you buy India, China (RMQ) or any other version than EU then definitely not. So I heard.

Nice. But in my country mi 9 lite 6gb and realme xt 8gb are similarly priced. If I decides to increase my budget then I will go for realme xt. Sd712 over sd710.
According to realme support no it doesn't.
Also I'm based in Italy and can confirm you there is no sign of 4g+ even though I live near a Tri-Band bts (3-7-20) and my place is full of two and three bands bts.
Considering to return the phone for exactly this reason. My old op3t had full 4g+ in the same position

I still can't believe eu version doesn't support 4g+. I mean did you check sites if they show whether or not this device supports it or not? I mean I definitely did before buying but I only see which bands does the device support. Not the technology (3g and 4g is present but I don't see 4g+). If you didn't check for it then why did you buy? If you did check but it was written to be present but it is not, shouldn't you get s full refund or device return + refund??

I can't believe it either, it was a BIG surprise to see it lacks it. In 2019, ANY and i mean ANY device you buy got a form of CA, even a Huawei MTK I just bought for dad for 99 euros. Of course this is also specified, for example as you can see there is mention for LTE-A (which is LTE+)
https://www.gsmarena.com/realme_5_pro-9801.php
I couldn't believe it so I sent an email to Realme customer service asking if the phone indeed supported LTE-A like specified and like supported by its chipset (snapdragon 712 is a 3*20mhz capable chipset) and they replied "realme 5 pro doesn't support LTE+"
Then, after more than TEN days, they replied again to the same email by saying that they were sorry for the previous reply and that the phone DOES support LTE+ (is this a professional service?)
I asked them how I can check which bands gets aggregated and why there is no sign of a 4g+ or lte+ icons like all other phones and... they never replied
I've read around that Realme support is a total crap, but I really tried and hoped they can answer about specs of a phone they produce and sell directly.
To dig further another guy here on xda sent some network guru screenshots where it is clearly shown that it only can catch a single band and not multiple.
So at this point I'm thinking about it. I've got until 31/01/2020 to be able to get a full refund but kinda I still like the phone speed, but this network problem and the camera (which is the worst 48Mpixel sensor I've ever tried, but it seems to be a software issue) kills my willingness to keep it. I was also waiting if any new update can fix either of the problems so I guess I'll wait a lil more, but still I can't advice to buy this phone. Xiaomi on the same price level doesn't have any of these major issues even though their chipsets are a little behind.

Wow... Just wow. All these bits and pieces of info are priceless and shocking to me. Thank you. Me too, I prefer the speed of the phone, the battery and ufs file storage, furthermore vooc charging. Amazingly conformable for my hand as well. Overall I'm really in love with it but kind of hate it at the same tine. My major problems are camera and connectivity. Both are extremely crucial when you take a look at a smartphone. Btw even oneplus uses the same sensor as our device. A developer of rm5p guessed that perhaps the difference is using different lens, not the sensors. I'm not sure. Anyway, we know more now at least. It's a start.

They are not similarly priced at all, mi 9 lite was on sale for 45,000 which is much cheaper than xt 54,000, sd712 vs sd710 very slight difference but 9 lite has its own advantages such as better selfie cam.
If you are looking to buy mi 9 lite box pack you can contact me, I can get you a good deal.
