Navigating bootloader with no power button

Hello,
I have a Google Nexus S, and as a lot of people out there, my power button is no longer working, and the warrany has expired. What I would like to do is install the latest version of the OS: jelly bean, but I do not want to wait for the OTA release in my country (France, with network operator Oorange).
I know that if the power button were working I could just use the .zip file with the update and install it. But the problem is that since the power button is not working, I cannot navigate in the boot menu. Does any of you know if there is a way to go around this and install the update before the OTA?
For now I do not have root access to my phone.
Thank you!
Well, you could flash the touch based CWM if you can get into fastboot and reboot into recovery from ADB. Then just flash the zip file.
Install touch based recovery such as CWM or TWRP. I don`t know it can be installed without navigating recovery.

[Q] Photon Q can't get root

hi guys, my photon q (unlocked bootloader) running on Jelly Bean can't root. I follow step by step from this . When I flash CWMrecovery I get "variable not supported" in the middle on my screen and then every into recovery there's triangle red (above android logo). I also can't find back-up and restore option in my recovery. And when I tried flash SuperSU via recovery I got this:
-- Install /sdcard/Root...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installation aborted.
So I used another method, I used motofail2go to get root. but the problem goes to this: Always exploit failed, already factory reset (wipe data/cache) and push volume up + button power but nothing (exploid failed again)
Any ideas guys?
First, if your bootloader is unlocked you do NOT need to do motofail2go or any of that other nonsense.
Second, I recommend you try searching before posting.
If you search for "variable not supported" there is a treasure trove of information.
Take this thread for example. Seems stock recovery is playing tricks on you, unfortunately. It is curable tho.
Edit - this guy solved it by using TWRP...
I wonder if there's some file that just needs to be removed before flashing recovery? I'm not sure, but give TWRP a shot. It will root the device for you as well
Yeah I got rooted, I suggest to prefer TWRP than CWM. big thanks guys
How to install TWRP with JB OTA running
Here is a step-by-step for anyone who stumbles here looking for an answer. I had to remember how I forced it through the first time, so I could install TWRP on my second PQ. GOO manager doesn't install TWRP, despite offering to. I believe this is due to JB.
1. Download TWRP recovery file & save to "platform-tools" folder
2. Start command prompt in platform-tools folder
3. ~type "adb reboot-bootloader" (phone will boot into bootloader)
4. ~type "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-asanti_c.img" (when that is the name of the TWRP recovery file in platform tools)
5. unplug USB, push power button - phone will turn off
6. Hold "vol-up" button in and press power button, release "vol-up" when screen turns on, phone will boot TWRP.
7. NAND backup, Flash rom or other.
Do it in this exact order & it will work. (should)
Enjoy *****es!

Messed up my phone :( [ NEED QUICK HELP]

I had a note 5 on sprint that I had recently upgraded to android marshmallow and then I saw that there were no roms for the N920PVPS2BPB2 update and started to mess around with the PC3 update and I flahed a stock rom of that and then I tried to flash MOR Rom. I ended up getting stuck in a bootloop and my backup got deleted. I can no longer do anything and have tried to Flash the stock 5.1.1 lollipop OK3 files and that is not working. My phone boots up for a few seconds and then just reboots and repeats to do that back to back. I don't know what to do and can't find N920PVPS2BPB2 6.0.1 marshmallow files online to try and flash the stock firmware. :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
Here is the link to get your cell up & running again http://thunderztech.com/download-android-6-0-1-n920pvpu2bpc3-marshmallow-for-sprint-galaxy-note-5-n920p/

I have tried installing the PC3 firmware. It won't work either. I am trying to download the PD1 update and am going to see if that works at all. My phone wasn't originally on the PC3 update until I started fooling around with things, which messed up my phone.
When you do the PC3 firmware does it still bootloop?

Yes, when I had tried to install the PC3 firmware it did bootloop. IDK why my phone's update is so much different. I was rooted on the N920PVPS2BPD2 update and was doing good and then I decided to play around with some ROMS from the PC3 Update and then my phone ****ed up. I can not find N920PVPS2BPD2 update online, so I am trying the N920PVPS2BPD1 update as it is all I got and is only a security update away from N920PVPS2BPD2.
Bootloop on the PC3 is not a bad thing & it's and easy fixed all you have to do once you have PC3 installed is let it bootloop once then do this easy fix and you should be up in running in no time ...
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
Press the Power key to select.
When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.
I tried to flash the lollipop OK3 rom again and let the phone die out. The firmware is glitched out but it is not restarting every 10 seconds after the phone boots up. I am now trying to update to Marshmallow ota and will see if that fixes the problem.
Should I just install theN920PVPS2BPD2 update ota and play it safe or try the PC3 again?
If it was me & my cell I would do the PC3
Download what ever firmware u want from sammobile, go into download mode, then flash the stock firmware with option nand erase all checked via odin and watch your phone breathe
I had went back to the OK3 Rom and then tried to flash the PC3 Rom from there and this time IT WORKED. I have flashed MOAR Rom and am all setup now with everything working and now have full customization to my phone thanks dmb!

Magisk rooting issue - Recovery erases itself

Hi,
I've recently gone to rooting my Note 10, I've managed to get the bootloader unlocked. I've followed the rooting instructions with Magisk via flashing with ODIN and then doing a factory reset in recovery.
Basically, whenever ODIN is done, and I try to enter recovery for the first time, it just displays 'erasing' for a second, the phone reboots, and root and magisk don't seem to work. I'm fairly sure I followed instructions to the T. Any idea what could be causing the issue? My phone is the 970F variant. I'm using the latest (android 10) firmware with Magisk and then flashing the processed file.
Thanks!
You should keep holding volume up and power. Don't release any of button when flashing is done and phone is reboot.
Best way is to disable auto reboot in Odin and when modified firmware is flashed, simply reboot by holding vol down and power key together.
As soon as screen goes black. Relase vol down and press vol up and power key. Let the erasing do, don't release buttons at any stage. You will get into recovery.
