[Test Version only] 7.1.1 NOUGAT update for moto x play - X Play General

Moderator Edit:
Anyone wishing to try this needs to be aware that it is potentially unstable and a non-released version.
Those who guys eager to update their moto x play and taste the latest version.
And waiting is over
Here is the link.
Moto X Play Nougat Update Download: The Nougat 7.1.1 update has been made available for Moto X Play and now you can manually download and update the same on the device. Ever since Moto’s announcement for the Nougat update on Moto X Play, people have been waiting to grab the OTA. But the OTA prompt is not yet made available for every user and it takes a while to complete the latest firmware rollout.
Moto X Play has released in India two years ago with Android Lollipop (5.0) pre-installed and the manufacturer had confirmed that it would get the latest Nougat 7.1 update without much delay. But the surprising fact is that Moto X Play didn’t receive an incremental update to Marshmallow firmware. Which means, straight from the Lollipop version, you can update your Moto X Play to latest Nougat 7.1.1 firmware.
Nougat update for Moto X Play in India has become a trending keyword nowadays after Moto’s official announcement (Moto X Play Nougat update India release date) and I’ve been getting numerous messages regarding the same. So let’s see how to manually update Moto X Play to Nougat 7.1.1 firmware.
Moto X Play 7.1.1 Update: Pre-requisites
Check whether you have received the update via OTA from the System Updates option. If not, proceed further.
Download and install Moto X Play USB drivers on your PC. [Check the below download section]
Similarly, make sure you have installed necessary ADB & Fastboot drivers. If not, download from below.
Make a full backup of your phone’s internal memory and calls/message logs. It gets wiped.
Maintain a decent battery juice on your X Play.
Install by these commands
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase customize
fastboot erase clogo
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
fastboot reboot
https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B2fcCTfy55gEWnBRZFp2dlZ3c1k&export=download
Sorry for my poor english.
Special Note
You cannot downgrade the device once it’s upgraded to the Nougat firmware unless the bootloader is unlocked.
The root access will be lost upon performing the firmware update.
The bootloader status doesn’t change, however.
The data may be wiped and cannot be recovered easily. So I strongly advise you take a full backup.
Now you have successfully updated Moto X Play to Nougat 7.1.1 firmware using the official fastboot image. Flashing the official firmware doesn’t void the warranty, but an incorrect execution of the command may brick your device. So proper care should be taken.
Thanks
Please press thanks button if I helped

Yes man its for Asia only...
Retail Asia dual sim

you did forget to say that it is the pre soak test build, not the latest one, dude

Sorry dude ....I am eager post the link for people who are long awaiting.. Anyhow please test it.

any bug ???

as far as i have heard, its very buggy and have even caused boot loop

Oh that's really bad.
I didn't test it yet.whenever I install will write down pros n cons.

I hope this thread will help people understand why Motorola/Lenovo bans users who upload private builds.
Nowhere in the first post it is mentioned that it is NOT an official build. And "please test it" is totally what's NOT recommended.
PS: Guys, with each version, Android uses more RAM and battery. Don't be that impatient.

This is soak test firmware, beta version at best, not meant to be used outside official testers community. It won't pass SafetyNet for those reasons.

OP, where did you get this official Nougat rom? This is the real deal, not soak test version right?

Don't be afraid. It should work on multiple versions of our phone. The official update for the July security patch was also a 'US' version, legitimate for all retail phones.
And yes, possibly it is an (official) soak test. It won't harm you! It will only remove you from the official upgrade path. But most things here on XDA are 'unofficial'. So what. Once an official update is out, it will be sorted out here within a day, I presume!

Motorola and an article on Android Police (http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/10/22/psa-android-7-0-nougat-not-officially-moto-g4-g4-plus/) clearly indicate the Nougat software is a soak test and not an official update. Additionally, some of the fastboot steps listed above will erase your userdata and you don't want that. I'm waiting for the official release. "Buyer beware."

Of course you should erase user data. You're installing a new rom! Make a backup of your apps, using Titanium Backup, wipe everything and Install Nougat. Root your Nougat and then reinstall all apps again using Titanium Backup. That way you'll have the best performance and battery backup!!

To each his own. Fastboot allows the easiest method of upgrading without having to reinstall everything. Assumption is staying with OEM rather than flashing different custom roms as most direct resetting to factory.

Downgrading only boot and system caused messed up fingerprint. Used all commands except bootloader provided in other thread for downgrade and now everything's good.
I see that the bootloader is not being downgraded. Doesn't that mean OTAs might still brick your device?
Bootloader was not upgraded in N. And you won't be able to downgrade your bootloader once updated.
Update : Seems I am wrong about bootloader. rpm and sbl1 have been upgraded. Those are bootloader files.

So are you saying that the bootloader was updated and if we do the OTA we might brick our phone?
I am not sure. Guys who got the soak test notification also have their bootloaders upgraded. They were officially handed out the soak test builds by lenovo. So they will have the same issues as those who flashed it manually, if at all there are issues.
I am not sure how this is gonna play out. If someone who is running the 139-63 build who has not upgraded to the N build can pull out the two files, we could compare them.
My point is that users who officially got the soak test builds via OTA and users who flashed them manually have the phone in the same state as of now. So if the guy who flashed it manually is gonna have issues when official N drops, then the same issue will be faced by the guys who got it via OTA.

The point about bricks is regarding downgrade. In previous phones, downgrading from L to K, but keeping the L bootloader and then getting official L OTA would brick phone. Motorola has never supported downgrade on any phone. So if you downgrade, and later take OTA you could brick. Especially if running M with N bootloader.
The whole title of this thread is wrong - no way can anyone 100% guarantee no future brick.

Taking OTA to official N from soak test N is not an issue, the issue arises when someone took the N soak test, downgrade to M, OTA to official N.
tl;dr if i'm not wrong:
M -> Official N = No brick
M -> Soak test N -> Official N = No brick
Soak test N -> Downgrade to M -> OTA to official N = Brick
When you downgrade from N to M, you are only changing the system/modem/oem partitons.
Official OTA will probably upgrade bootloader/system/modem/oem/gpt/tz partitions. There is a catch here. People for whom the soak test was released are on a different bootloader than the general public which means they can't patch the bootloader or check for a specific one. They just have to upgrade it without any checks.
My question is how you will brick the device when you won't be able to downgrade the bootloader?
But as someone said, nothing in life is certain.

You can say what you want but go read the G And X2 communities. EVERY user that updated to M then rolled back to L and later took an OTA back to M bricked. The OTA doesn't take into a count that the bootloader was a newer version - I don't remember the mechanics, but the OTA expected a different version of the bootloader.
Search XDA or the Internet for "Blank flash files" . The problem is downgrade related. If you take any upgrade, be prepared to stay on it. Do NOT downgrade.
Well, it may be true. I don't just blindly flash files on my device. I go thru the zip file to see what files are patched to make sure that I don't get into trouble. That need not be the case with all users.
Let's wait for the official OTA to be released and then we'll see how it goes.

ok guys ive just done some testing and ive found that whilst on official android 6.0 my bootloader version was (moto-msm8952-b0.0e) (sha-4986429) with the date 2016-04-13
then after upgrading to 7.0 soak test the bootloader version changed to (moto-msm8952-b1.00) with the date 2016-06-24
so after i then did the downgrade back to 6.0 marshamallow and the bootloader version downgraded back to its original (moto-msm8952-b0.0e) (sha-4986429) with the date 2016-04-13 so moral of the story is the bootloader does infact downgrade too and doesnt stay with the new android 7.0 bootloader like many seem to claim on this thread if u guys want to try this for yourself run this command to get your bootloader versions before update and after u updateto 7.0 & then 1 last time when u downgrade to 6.0 u will need to run the below command via adb fastboot
fastboot getvar version-bootloader
The problem with X2 and G was a mismatch between partition table version and bootloader. If you can't downgrade gpt.bin, then you may be facing a brick with OTA. Keep in mind that this is just one possible path to brickdom. The Motorola update assumes certain things, and we don't know what may change in the future. I think there is a reason that Moto says they don't support downgrades: they are not going to check for modifications and any mismatch may cause problems.
If you downgrade, then don't take an OTA, it is that simple.

[OTA] [XT1572 EU] Moto X Style Android 7.0 Nougat Build NPH25.200-15 (EU)

Finally here's a capture of the Android 7.0 Nougat OTA zip for XT1572 EU:
https://mega.nz/#!4WYQiBBb!_jqjCCSh7Bjh0QnnM11BLQ7RrAt80URu-Lsb1Toog2I
or
https://dl.prazaar.de/?dir=Android/Motorola/XT1572/OTA
Should be flashable via onboard recovery (same procedure as on other moto devices like g4, description here) or by sideloading via adb (see description below, thanks for acejavelin)
By the way, no special improvements, g4 stuff is missing (like clock widget or update of the moto app, so no one handed-mode )
You're invited to make mirrors, I'll update my post in this case
Will work for any xt1572 version?

This is a capture of the OTA ZIP file... it is NOT flashable in TWRP, to flash this you must be PURE STOCK on the XT1572 Style EU variant that is on on 6.0.1 now (not the EU devices on 6.0, that will be a different update).
You must be on MPHS24.107-58-13 now for this to apply, it will update your device to NPH25.200-15
If you have the correct device and firmware, and are completely stock, you can flash this in one of two ways.
ADB Sideload
1. Place the ZIP file in your adb/fastboot directory
2. Reboot to the bootloader and start (stock) recovery
3. At the "dead Andy" with a red exclamation, press POWER+VolUp to get to the stock recovery menu
4. Select "Apply update from ADB"
5. On computer, enter "adb sideload <filename>" but replace <filename> with the OTA ZIP image
6. Wait for the process to finish...
The second method I have never done... you need to copy it to the root of the SD card and in recovery select "Apply update from SD card". The file MAY need to be specific name or format, I don't know.

No, you must be pure stock MPHS24.107-58-13 of the RETEU version. If you have anything else, it won't work.

You can't... OP is incorrect about that piece of information.
This is STOCK, UNMODIFIED ota file, it is for devices on MPHS24.107-58-13 firmware version ONLY. It must be applied through stock recovery.
Thank you for your answer, i ll wait for a flashable version
Why it's not available on System Update on the phone menu? Are you an insider?

No, I'm not. I only had good luck. Usually rolling out of update comes in waves, so maybe I'd been on the first one...
By the way, capturing an OTA update is no advanced chemistry
I am on MPHS24.107-58-5, how do I get to MPHS24.107-58-13?

You need to OTA update to that version, there is no flashable image for 58-13. It should be available in About Phone - System Updates... if not, it may not be available to you yet or something else could be stopping it.
Yep, my moto x style is pretty much a Frankenstein device. I bought from amazon france, then flashed a german stock image from prazaar. Now it never finds any OTAs. ;(

Just a shoutout post for @acejavelin
Seen him in many posts helping others
So I downloaded the latest OTA on dl.prazaar.de and then installed the OTA provided in the OP. It workes, thanks for sharing the files.

I'll try to wait until my phone notify the OTA. It's really hard but I'll try. In Italy everything is so long!

If you have the correct build there is no benefit to waiting.
Very annoyed, just reset my phone after running the Brazil update, which had it's issues. Now I cant update because my build fingerprint is wrong, and I cannot get an update to the correct build number.
How annoying. I guess I will just wait now
thanks for ota finally I have nougat, shame that lenovo added some crapy things like ugly lockscreen font and nfc icon in statusbar and ugly bootanimation with sound instead of new moto apps ;\

Anyone getting OTA of Pie please capture it

So Motorola listed this on their website that Pie Rollout for G6 began on 14th of March.
I'm currently on second beta of Pie so if anyone gets the update please capture the OTA and share.

Getting signature failed error when trying through ADB -
Unzipped the file to check if I get any error and did not ...then applied the OTA manually as defined here -
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g6/how-to/stock-firmware-moto-g6-t3792292
BTFM.bin & dspso.bin were not available on this update so did not apply -
also just to try did not apply "erase userdata" and it booted into Pie
Thanks !!

Same for me. Script may not apply to PIE installation or for all G6 variant
Flashed firmware from link in post #2 using RSD lite no problems . Variant xt1925-6 bootloader is locked due phone is only 2 weeks old and Im not ready to void my warranty.
I did manual (fastboot method) update after picked up full ROM from post #2
Don't worry flashing BTFM, and use "adspso.bin" to flash dsp
Everything works as it was and I regained root.
XT1925-6

Use the full firmware, not an update.
Which g6?

Did you see post 2 in this thread? And then read the rest? They literally say it, how it works, and results. What more do you want?
UK stock ROM updated via phone
RETUS PIE is out !!!!!

I tested it. This firmware package is just the Brazilian version renamed because their MD5 and SHA1 data are exactly the same. Do not trust it and I don't know who uploaded it. And after you flashing it your phone will remind you that the firmware is invalid and you cannot get access to the OTA delivery. My device is XT1925-6, the retus version.
