S8 plus G955FOWA question - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I am a new owner of galaxy S8 plus.. My phone has the following CSC G955FOWA1AQDD .. My question to you all is what are the possibilities of flashing and custom roms that i have in specific
1. Can i flash an official firmware that is different from the current one that i have i.e. more recent / different country? if yes, what are the firmware options that i have and a newbie step by step instruction or guide would be appreciated
2. What custom rom options do i have, is it dependent on csc number e.g. G955F or the group i.e. OWA as i haven't actually seen a device that is G955FOWA its either OXM or G950FOWA ..
Your help is appreciated for this new owner, and any advice you have!

Yes you can flash firmware from other countries as long as the device model is the same.
Im not going to post up a guide as they are everywhere juwt search here or Google "how to flash firmware with odin" it is very easy to do.
Make sure you backup as sometimes it willbe required to factory reset after a flash. Also flashing any csc other than what you already have will wipe your device.
As far as roms go as long as the rom is for a 955F or FD you can flash it regardless of CSC for the most part although some roms allow you to choose CSC during install.
Enjoy your new device!

I really need enlightenment here

Hello,
I have a galaxy tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100.
the ROM is my carrier's ROM that removed the dialer.
Now I want to root the tab, and then change the rom.
I found a guide on how to root the device, but now I am really confused, because, I want the official rom and not CyanogenMod(yet :laugh
Now, I don't know what to do: I found a website "SamMobile" with many firmwares available to download, and I don't know what to choose.
I don't even know if I flash a firmware will that change my rom, or a firmware is a different thing.
Is flashing firmware the same as flashing rom?
Maybe if I flash a new firmware, I will have the same rom? is that it?
Is there a way I can change my carrier's rom to "stock" Samsung rom?
I'm really confused here:silly:
Thanks everyone who helps!

Its quite simple on the samsite use the check firmware on the top of page..,you put in your device, country etc and it will give you the latest firmware for your device.
once flashed root it.

Thanks it was really helpful but I still remained without some answers maybe you could help:
1. So for an official firmware I don't have to root?
2. The problem is my country latest firmware is ics 4.0.4 and without the 3g apps (dialer, ,messaging) , can I simply choose firmware of another country?
3. If I update to a firmware of another country will it also change the rom and I will have the dialer app back or upgrading firmware doesn't change rom but only the Android version?
Maybe I should just root and change to cyanogen? Will it add the telephony?
Thanks, sorry for the long annoying post.

1)I dont quite get this question?.if you flash Samsung latest firmware you can then root it and then you can modify as you have root.
or you can flash any other firmware you want from any country as long as you get the language.there are lots of firmwares from different country's that are multilingual.Basically install the firmware of your choice then root device.
2)i am not sure but for 3g you will or may need your country's base-band for it to work but everything can be modified once device is rooted.Example: install a firmware that you want but it is not for your country then flash correct baseband for your country.
or just install a custom rom that contains all you need..look here for roms etc http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203309
3)if you update it does just that it will not change rom but fix a few bugs or add something not in last version. It wont take anything away.it basically is a update for improvements.
hope this helps but have a good look at all the threads related to your device and you will no doubt find what you need.

You are really helping , I really thank you. I will try to explain you my question more:
For changing roms, you need to root device, and change recovery and then change rom,
But for a firmware updating manually by downloading firmware from Sammobile, using odin and download mode, I do not need to root nor change recovery?
What will happen if I update firmware of other country that has Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 over my country's firmware (my country has only 4.0.4)? Will it brick my device? or it will just update to 4.1.2 and I will remain with my same carrier rom without dialer ? or it will also change the rom of the matching firmware?
I hope you understand now because I am starting to understand thanks to your help
(So firmware is not rom!)

Firmware is rom. You don't need custom recovery if you flash stock rom=firmware using Odin. You don't need root to flash custom recovery. You need custom recovery (like CWM) if you want to flash a custom rom (like CM).
You can flash another country's stock rom using odin, but it will wipe your device. Wipe as in clean, not brick, if you flash the rom for your model.
And how is it that your carrier removed the dialer from P5100? Why would anyone do that? Are you sure your nodel is not 5110?

Thanks!
My model is P5100 - there is a sim slot. My carrier did that probably because of tax issues (If a device is "phone" you pay much more taxes in my country) , so my P5100 is only for the internet.
So I can simply choose another firmware(=rom?) that did not remove the dialer?
I also saw in the "Frequently Asked Questions - Galaxy Tab 2" here, that you need to choose rom with the correct "baseband"confused.
How do I know which firmware from which coutnry will fit me and will make the dialer work? or it doesn't matter here?
Can I follow this guide and it will work?
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/460859/20130424/galaxy-tab2101-p5100-android412-xxdmc3-jellybean-release.htm
(All I have to do is simply flash the official firmware with odin in the same way you flash CWM recovery for example?or it's a bit different?)
or the best thing to do would be root, cwm, and install CM? Does that unlock the tab? I mean, will I be able to use a different carrier's sim with CM?
Thank you very much !

I'd highly recommend going for CM, though it's my personal opinion, and there are people quite happy with stock rom. For me the performance of stock was unbearable.
If there is 4.1 rom for your country, you should flash it (preferably using odin), before flashing CM. That way you will take care of the baseband and bootloader problem. If there is no 4.1 for your device for your country, you should try to find a rom from a different country, but containing your country's region configuration. For example I live in Poland (region code XEO), and because there is no 4.1 for Poland, I've flashed spanish (or was it french?) firmware, that had XEO. If there is no rom with your region's configuration (unlikely), then flash 4.1 rom from a country near yours.
Bare in mind that flashing a 4.1 stock rom is not necessary, but users claim that it reduces the possibility of certain bugs in CM 10.1.
And as for guides, I'd recommend using those you can find here, on xda, as you will not find better devs and specialists.

Ty again,
I've looked in SamMobile official firmwares, and there are 4 different criterias:
Product code,PDA,CSC,MODEM. which one of them do I need to match to my country? I mean, which one is supposed to be identical to my country? I checked Poland and France, and the only criteria that matches is "MODEM", the rest are different, so I think you need to find firmwares with only "MODEM" identical, or I'm wrong?
*Is there an international baseband version, like there is on Galaxy s3 i9300 for example? Can I make my tab be used with any sim card of any carrier in my country like the s3 i9300? or it's a different thing on this tab?
I dont understand something: If for official stock firmwares, there are different configuration, how come the same CyanogenMod fit all of the countries?I mean, there is no PDA,CSC,MODEM choosing when flashing CM,
Or, flashing CM does'nt change your current baseband version and that's the reason?
And Last thing - I saw that there are 2 ways of rooting this tab:
1)http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657056
2)http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957165
Which one should I use? because my tab comes with 4.0.4 and the 1st method says it's only for 4.0.3, so should I use the 2nd method CF-auto root? will that work too?
CM is just so goddamn awsome that it works on every device, no matter what country it is...
And what is your country? Maybe I'll find a firmware for you, because I seriously don't know answers to most of the questions you've asked in your post...
As for the rooting method, I've used Chainfire's auto root, and it did its job.

So I will be able to use it on any carrier? Nice! ? I was sure it only changes the appearance. (I'm really a noob that's why I still use this nick )
I am going to root it and change it to CM now
I'm from Israel btw.
btw, using download mode for flashing is only for official roms ? what will happen if I try to flash a custom rom with Odin and download mode?
Thanks again!
I've no idea what will happen when you flash cm without using CWM, but it is not a good idea to experiment with this things... Do exactly as the dev of cm explains in cm thread.
I did it! first time I changed a rom lol.
At first boot , the tab was stuck at the CyanogenMod boot animation so I entered recovery and re-booted and it worked.
btw, installing stock firmware is done the same way as a custom rom? Via CWM>Install zip from sd card? (stock firmware is much larger than CM 10.1 => 750MB+/- vs 150MB+/-)

How to replace Chinese firmware(G9300) with US one(G930A/G930U)?

I have bought a Samsung Galaxy S7 in China. It comes with Chinese firmware (has English language though) but mostly with Chinese software, bloatware and without Google play store. So it does not sync with Google, searches go through Baidu, I can't find and install most apps so it's essentially not very fun to use.
So i want to replace the firmware with any US firmware like G930A, G930U etc. I personally think its possible cause Chinese S7 has Snapdragon 820 chipset like US S7. So basically the hardware of Chinese & US variants of S7 are same.
Just i need a proper step by step guide or ODIN tutorial to make this change. I am really tired of Chinese apps and bloatware. So please guys help me to get ride out of this. Please.
updato.com has all the firmwares for the various models and countries, and it has a step by step guide for flashing with Odin.

Boot into download mode, whatever model it says in there is the one you can flash new firmware for, do not try flashing firmware for the wrong model S7 or you can brick it
Exceptions are G930V can use G930U firmwares, and FD can use F firmware, I am not aware of any others
I recommend SamMobile for the firmware download and Odin for flashing it.
Read carefully the flashing instructions.
There are many threads with tutorials, we'll not going to post another tutorial here. Just use the search button and you'll find all the information you need about flashing with Odin.

I know how to flash with ODIN. But i wanted to change my firmware. My S7's model is SM-G9300 which is for Chinese open model. But in this model, there is no google apps and lots of bloatware everywhere. So i wanna replace it with any US firmware specially with SM-930U firmware. Cause i heard it gives smooth performance and bloatware less.

i saw some user changed their S7's G930A or G930V firmware with G930U firmware because of all the US model of S7 has snapdragon's hardware setup. That's why i am interested cause my G9300 also has snapdragon's hardware though it Chinese model. I know i can't flash exynos firmware in snapdragon's model because its completely different hardware setup.
So i wanted to know did anybody can successfully changed their G9300(Chinese) firmware with any US firmware? If did then what's the process? Or how can i replace it? Is there any way to do that without ODIN like with 'dongle' or 'magic flash box'? These are my queries.

I already explained, only 1-2 devices have other model firmwares that are compatible, yours is not one of them, nothing to do with hte snapdragon hardware, bootloader etc is different and will BRICK
See here for TWRP and try custom / root to get Google services

Hi,
I bought Samsung Galaxy S7 SM-G930S from the store which was converted into SM-G930FD as I was not having Korean sick apps installed in my mobile and there was no Korean logo of "BANDLTE" while switching off and switching on, when I saw my phone model name it was SM-G930FD and was supporting dual sim both had a same IMEI. But when I restarted my mobile after getting home phone got locked with this message "Custom Binary Blocked By FRP Lock" so decided to got into boot menu there I saw SMG930S written so i flashed mobile with SKT Korean firmware of smg930s but when I installed it I got tons of Korean apps and getting "BANDLTE" logo while switching off and on my phone I lost that Samsung Original logo which I had when my phone was converted into smg930fd. Now I want to switch back to Smg930fd settings/firmware so get rid of these Korean apps and Model to be appear as SMG930FD as the back of my Samsung Galaxy s7 glass has a phone model SMG930FD. I don't know Shopkeeper scammed me or what I told him I wanted to buy SMG930FD but he gave me this converted phone Kindly help me to get back to SMG930FD firmware/settings

The same experience... If you are not on Oreo, I advice you to stay on Nougat or even Marshmallow.
Although this post has been posted for a long time but I still want to ask you that how did you get the g9300 device rooted properly?

J7 Prime Firmware Flashing

Hi guys! I tried posting to a different forums but no luck in replies. So, I tried to go here and find some answers.
So, Im waiting for the official update for my phone (SM-G610Y - here's my latest firmware: PDA - G610YZTU1AQF2, CSC - G610YOLC1AQF1), but Im planning to flash a new firmware. Although, since PH-OpenLine havent rolled-out a firmware nougat update, I want to use Australia's firmware (PDA - G610YZTU1BRC3, CSC - G610YXSA1BRC3).
Questions:
-Will my phone still work if I will do it? And will my device status change from official to custom?
-Should I use all four files (BL, AP, CP, CSC) when flashing the update/firmware?
-Will there be any conflicts/problems?
-If it caused a problem, can factory reset (as others said in other forums) work to revert back to the original and official status of the phone? Or will there be any solutions to rollback?
Thank you!!!
Hi
Install this software .... Phone INFO ★Samsung★
The CSC tab (page 2) will show you the compatible CSC codes for your device. I.e. installing official software from those countries should be ok.
Flashing official software won't change your status, aka trip knox
Flashing your original, official software should restore to factory state.
Good luck!
Thank you for replying and answering some of my questions.
So I decided to use Australia's firmware. I just wanna ask which one is the compatible csc? Is it the available csc from the phone info app? If yes, XSA is not included, what will be the problems when I continue to flash it (if there are any)?
And more importantly, should I flash all 4 files or just AP? And any important matters before I flash?
Thank you!
If XSA is not on the CSC list, you need to take care that the mobile networks in Australia are compatible with those in your home country - both gsm?
Also I would avoid a network specific firmware.
Any specific reason for choosing XSA?
Flash all 4 files.
Sent from my SM-J700F using Tapatalk
How about I update using XSA and changing my CSC code after the update is finished? Will it work?
Whats a network specific firmware? Is it the one uploaded in the sammobile (thats where my firmware came from)?
And no, I dont have any specific reason for choosing XSA. I only have 3 options (NZC, VFJ, and XSA).
Sorry for being a newbie and thank you so much

If your home network and Australia use the same radio tech i.e. gsm, no need to change the CSC, just upate

E.g. for Israel (ILO) is generic for rest of Israel. There's also firmware specific for Pelephone in Israel (PCL)[/I]

I see why now .... Here is a faster source .... you can use a download accelerator 610Y firmware on Updato.com

More on the network specific firmware - for Phillipines XTC would be generic (Open Line). XLA Smart and GLB Globe would be network specific.
Okay, I'll try it later. Thank you so much!

I need a bit of advise and help with flashing oreo firmware on my device. I have already done a lot of research already but have failed to find any satisfactory answer. So here is my story,
I purchased my galaxy s8+ from korea. Model number is G955N. I wasn't able to get volte signal on it hence, rooted it and changed the csc to India.
In the process I also had to update my BL to AQL3.
I am now trying to flash an indian firmware on my korean device. i.e. installing SM-G955FD firmware on SM-G955N device. I undestand hardware of both the devices (korean and indian) are same. So, there should not be any problem in this cross flashing of firmware. However, ODIN doesn't allow this.
Here are my few queries which I hope you can help me with
1) Would it allow me to flash *FD firmware on *N device if I use prince comsy odin or some other custom odin?
2) Do I need to flash *N oreo BL if I decide to flash any other custom oreo rom which supports F/FD/N variants?
3) Where can I find *N oreo BL and AP to flash if only option is to install custom oreo rom?
4) If I flash oreo firmware for *N variant, would I loose my csc changes and I will have to start all process again to get back volte signal?
I know this is a long list of question. But, I am sure a lot of people have these queries and it will help all of them in understanding the process and upgrade their devices if these questions can be answered.
Would appreciate your help on this matter.
Thanks,
I got it..just flashed the oreo rom from twrp and everything seems to be working fine.
hello. which custom did you flash ? also need it. thanks
I have my G955N made 2 sims aleady.
I observed that the developer did the following steps:
1. They made it support 2 sims: IMEI guru software
2. They flashed custom that supported G955X:Renovate ICE in xda
3. They changed 1 slot sim tray with 2 slot sim trays.
4. I observed that BL and CP are of G955N but AP and CSC are else from G955X.
Thanks?.

How to enable VoLTE on Galaxy S7, SM-G930F

I am a technical guy, but this is my first time hacking into my cell phone firmware, so please be patient with me. I tried to search this forum for the applicable case, but the amount of information is overwhelming. So I am hoping that somebody with the relevant experience could advise me which path to take and could guide me through the process.
Problem description:
Samsung Galaxy S7
SM-G930F (international model), unlocked
CSC: G930FUUB8ETCD (TPA, Panama, don’t ask me why)
My Canadian operator (Videotron) is shutting down their 3G network. I need to enable VoLTE in my phone in order to be able to make voice calls and send SMSes. I have already received a VoLTE-capable SIM and I tested it in a different device. I checked hidden menus in my phone, “VoLTE Provisioned” flag is OFF and greyed out (I am not able to flip it).
This phone model seems to be capable of VoLTE. I found some screenshots of this model in UK (Vodafone) with VoLTE menu present in the regular phone settings (Connections-> Mobile Networks).
I think my best shot to enable VoLTE in my phone is to replace the phone’s firmware to CSC BTU. This firmware is for the same model – SM-G930F, so I expect it to work on my device and hopefully give me the VoLTE option.
Questions:
1. Did anybody have a similar issue with their Galaxy S7 and how did you fix it?
2. I found a number of articles and videos about using Odin to update a Samsung phone to the latest firmware within the same CSC, but I haven’t seen a step-by-step guide about flashing a completely different firmware with a CSC change. Can anybody help me to understand the specifics of that process (which problems to expect, any particular steps to take)?
3. Is there a better CSC option than BTU in my case?
4. A more specific question about Odin. There is an option “Re-Partition”. Some articles recommend this option, some don’t. Does anybody know exactly what this option is used for? Do I need to select it when I am replacing CSC firmware on my device?
5. There seem to be two CSC files in a firmware package – CSC_xxx and HOME_CSC_xxx. Some guides suggest to use HOME_CSC, but the most common recommendation is to use the CSC one. What is the difference between these two files and which one shall I use in my case?
6. I do have a Google account in my phone and I do remember the password for it. Does it mean I do not have to worry about FRP lock? It is my understanding that I will simply enter the password when I am prompted for it after the upgrade and that will be enough to proceed. Or shall I still remove the account before flashing the firmware?
7. Is my understanding correct that by changing CSC firmware I will reset my device and will lose all apps and settings? How much of that will I be able to restore from a backup using SmartSwitch?
8. Do I need to remove the SIM when flashing the firmware? When do I insert the sim back? Will it be an issue if the SIM is from a different country than the CSC? I haven't seen any instructions for that matter.
Thank you in advance for your help. It will be much appreciated.
Felix.

Thank you, but before I attempt anything I would like to understand what I need to do in order to change CSC on my device and if that tool does what I need. It is my understanding that there are different ways to change CSC. Some firmwares support multiple CSCs and that seems to be the case with my current firmware. Unfortunately my current firmware does not have any UK CSCs. Those that are supported most probably do not support VoLTE. So the question remains if the tool that you advertise will do what I need.
@Tungtata , do you care to comment on this thread, please? Does your tool replace the firmware or does it switch the same firmware to a different CSC (if multiple CSC exist)?
