any input is appreciated as am a total noob with samsung - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

after getting used to the easy and rich diverse custom roms, rooting, kernels and the whatnot in nexus devices, coming to samsung seems a "little" different. getting used to the existence of knox that could limit what you do with a phone in terms of using it "openly"
i have the s8+ with this info:
AP: G955FXXU1AQF7
CP: G955FXXU1AQF7
CSC: G955F0XM1AQF7
MODEL: SM-G9555F/ds
REGION: UAE
when i first got the phone wifi was fine. then i got the first update (may), and wifi started going crazy over the two routers i had at home. reading one but not the other, etc. i went to samsung today, and they told me no problem with the phone but could rather be something with the router. the wifi never dropped once connected with good signal, but now out of the blue, it disconnects, and takes a bit to connect back (any help with that?)
secondly, i know the carrier here offers volte, and i see an app in phone "wifi calling"
the tech at samsung said they trigger automatically, but i don't think they really do(right?) and something has to be changed in the phone to set them on/off.correct? any help on that and how to do it would be highly appreciated.
that's it for now and i hope i can get all the input to be able to get the best understanding of all this.
thanks

Have you tried resetting both the devices?
First try with a Factory Reset on the Device, Then Factory Reset the Router and Check. Isolate where the issue is. I've seen these kinda behavior caused by Routers, and also Vice versa on Phones as well. Also, You could borrow a S8 from a friend and give it a try, If the other S8 too behaves the same way, Time to invest in a Linksys.

Which Carrier, and If you do not mind, Can I see a Screenshot of that App?
Yes they do offer VoLTE, However I have never seen it get activated in any of my phones.

Ok, Nope.. actually if VoLTE works, It would show an indicator next to the signal on Status bar.
Wifi-Calling app - That's preloaded in all S8.

Ya i know about volte. That's why am asking what to do to get it working. And if the wifi calling app is there, there must be a way to use it, no?

Volte may be in another CSC fw which your UAE does not include. In the UK BTU does not include it but EE's own EVR does. I use EE but need to download and install EVR if I want to take advantage of that.

Excuse me for the following amateur question, but what is ee and evr?
And if i flash another csc, does it void my warranty? Does it trip Knox? Will there be any changes in my phone and the updates i get, etc?

EE is my carrier (UK) and EVR is their CSC which enables VOLTE. Not all do enable VOLTE.
Flashing a samsung CSC won't invalidate your warranty or knox. Have a look on SAMMOBILE to see what is available but you'll need to find a CSC that has VOLTE enabled and one that is OK with your UAE device.

VoLTE on unlocked version

I have a feeling I know the answer to this, but is there any way to enable VoLTE on the unlocked version, notably on the Rogers network in Canada?
Thanks

Thanks but that's what I originally feared: there is no VoLTE option anywhere in there..? I had done a search too and nothing pops up.
Rummaging through the internet, I found an article saying the unlocked version (mine) would NOT have VoLTE. No sure how accurate that was.

Are you connected to Wind by any chance? I don't think that network has volte yet. I think Rogers purchased them.
No, I'm on Rogers and I can confirm I had VoLTE before on my Galaxy S7, so it's neither the network or my account the issue.

Very weird. Maybe ask your carrier to check provisioning for your device. What bands does your carrier use for VoLTE?
it should be supported bu carrier it self , not only the phone ! check with them !
Well after some investigating, I have an answer: Rogers only support VoLTE on Apple, LG and Samsung devices...
This is really unfortunate but it's one last thing missing from the Honor 8 to make it my daily driver. It's an excellent device and I was very impressed for the price tag, but not having wireless charging, VoLTE and 4k video made me realize how much I actually use it.
Thanks for the help guys!

Software Update 05/09/17

Didn't see any posts about this here yet ... anyone finished downloading yet and can confirm if this is the color fix? It is taking forever to download for me.
Yeah, the color fix is in it. It does take forever to download and install - supposed to be like 400 to 500 MB.
Anyone know what else is in the update?
I've noticed the Bixby button now work when press without delay or pressing it a million time

Updates working fine with cricket sim. Att only allows to check updates every 1-2 days. Just set time and date to manual and set for 2 days later then recheck update.

I've tried the manual date trick multiple times, WiFi on the 2 device management arrows will pop up on notification bar but comes back current software up to date.
My screen isn't pink but tomorrow is the last day of my 15day return period. Got AT&T over international for warranty and software updates. Considering ordering the international, just worried if it is defective I have no warranty in the US. Plus the locked bootloader keeps me from flashing new roms every week ?
What's up fellas.. My overall phone is ALOT snappier
...apps load faster.. Finger scanner is quicker... Iris is quicker... way better... Just my 2cents...
Will the international variant work on at&t's network? I always thought international variants never worked on USA networks whether it be Verizon, at&t, t-mobile, cricket, or what have you.

International variants will work with GSM carriers as long as they have that carriers respected network band set, usually an international unlocked variant will have most network bands enabled for USA GSM carriers. I wouldn't try using them on Verizon or Sprint, since both of those carriers are CDMA and use a different type of network access - and it can be a pain in the ass if the phone is not in their system.

Right after I posted that, I realized that there was a separate edge adjuster that I didn't even notice. I'm so happy right now. It works! I already swapped a phone out due to this.

Ok now I don't think I am crazy now that somebody else said the same as me. My phone feels much better with this latest update.
Hey guys, fellow G955U owner here! I've been trying to force this update using the date change trick, but I'm 2 weeks into the future now with no luck does anyone happen to have the OTA file handy or know of any other possible way I can force it?
For whatever reason my devices are really slow to get updates and I always resort to a sideload...
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Changed the date all the way to August; at that point it would auto revert to today. Put in my other AT&T SIM, moved it ahead to May 15, and now it's downloading. I guess if all else fails, try a different SIM!

Important is to differ between LTE devices... most in USA, Singapore, Korea, New Zealand... nowhere else...
Examples...
Gear S3 Frontier LTE series:
USA
Code:
SM-R765A ATT USA -> ATT
SM-R765T TMB USA ->T-Mobile
SM-R765V VZW USA ->Verizon
Korea:
SM-R765 ->
Code:
SM-R765L
SM-R765K
SM-R765S
Singapore:
Code:
SM-R765F
New Z.
Code:
SM-R765N
+++++++ PLUS Classic range... SM-R775...
But this Thread is SM-R760 related... without eSIM... without LTE...
Also SM-R770 received R770XXU2CRE3
SM-R760 and SM-R770 are same family/group...
LTE devices are """different""" and have """different" Firmware with """different""" funny names...
Also LTE devices receive new Firmware update AFTER SM-R760/SM-R770...
NO idea why... ask Samsung...
For me LTE devices look more expensive as SM-R760/SM-R770...
Only as hint.
Best Regards
Edit 1.
SM-R760 and SM-R770 related...
Like last time...
They launched this Firmware only for 3 CSC/Sales Code:
Code:
KOO Korea
XAC
XAR USA
All other have to wait...
No idea how long... 1 week maybe...

Gotcha, tested it out a min ago, definitely just turn it clockwise a couple times to answer!
Works for me, maybe half turn and it answers or hangs up. My battery life on this thing is pathetic and I can't even use it anymore. Hard reset, everything off except BT, chronograph+ watch face and nothing else loaded. Did this firmware in hopes but off the charger at 7am and by 4pm it's dead.

Modem,Radio,Baseband. Carrier tuned? Firmware

I live in Australia and I know there's carrier firmware for Optus, Telstra, Vodaphone, and just XSA for Australia I would like to know if Optus, Telstra, Vodaphone specifically tune there modem files they provide in there firmware, so using Optus firmware with Optus sim card provides a better reception, battery life network speeds, then say using XSA with a modem that's for all Australia and no specific network intended.
I've also read someone suggesting sometimes carriers don't update there modem files they just stick with one that they found to work throughout a phones lifetime, uncertain how true untrue this statement was.
Thanks.
I'm on Optus and not noticed any difference between XSA, Optus, and the generic BTU carrier firmware in either speed or reception, or any other phone functionality.
However the carrier firmware is what enables things like VoLTE which I've never used, so I can't comment if different carrier firmwares break or fix VoLTE.

Yeah well besides bloat apps which they don't even have much of these days, seems the VoLTE and there timing of there security updates separate them. Yes XSA would remove VoLTE, no clue if Vodaphone VoLTE would work on Optus VoLTE enabled firmware, guessing no. There are ways to make VoLTE work on XSA complicated.
Maybe you just haven't noticed a difference i have tried looking for these types of answers in the past never found much tho.
I use my phone a lot at work so I definitely know battery life didn't change between firmwares. If there was a difference in speed it wasn't detectable, and phones almost always showing as 4G.
You could always just flash the home_csc for each one and test it for a few days each.

Yeah my understanding, when testing different modem files it's never as simple as what works for one person been the same for someone else. It would change from suburb to suburb area network provider ect i'm still not 100% sure the best or most reliable way to measure which ones are better worse then others, like improved battery life or worse, improved reception or worse, improved 4G data speeds or worse, i believe these are the only benefits to changing it, i'm unsure if it effects bluetooth wireless gps or anything else.
I did post elsewhere and someone is suggesting that the Telsta, Vodaphone, Optus do fine tune there stuff individually, tho your points valid and kinda is what i was planning after getting answers.

Wi-Fi Calling

New to this forum. Just got my Motorola One Hyper today. Am I able to make wi-fi calls on this phone? When I go to my Settings, Wi-Fi Calling is grayed out. If I long press it, Wi-Fi Calling comes up, but again, the screen is grayed out. It will not allow me to enable it. I am connected to my home wi-fi network, so that is not the problem. Thanks in advance.
It depends on your carrier, call customer service and ask if they use wifi calling. It works for me on T-Mobile on both stock and omni out of the box.
Beyond that, make sure you are updated to the latest stock firmware. The last update fixed volte and vowifi.

Thanks for the response. After the phone went through all of its updating, the wi-fi issue solved itself. But I have another question. This phone was labeled as "International version" when I purchased it. I discovered that it's actually (RETLA), thus the instructions only came in Spanish. Will this be an issue using it in the USA?
Thanks

Mine is xt2027-1

Go to the link below, it compares the bands different models of our phone operate on. If more bands are compatible with your network, your network reception will improve.
