Bluetooth Keyboard working with Google Pixel and Android O - General Questions and Answers

I just got a Bluetooth keyboard I was trying to use with my Google Pixel and Android O. The device pairs successfully but when I try to type in an app it does nothing. I did test the keyboard with an older tablet and it works fine there. On the Pixel I have tried using it in Messages, Browser and Contacts (just to test). I am wondering if its not being profiled as a HID (Human Interface Device) but in each of the above applications seems to think something is attached and working because it give me the keyboard icon in the lower right hand corner and the option to "show virtual keyboard when physical keyboard is active" or go google voice typing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just got the Logitech K480 bluetooth keyboard and it doesnt work. I am having the exact same issue.

I also have this issue. I have the Pixel XL and got a ZeroLemon BT keyboard. The keyboard works fine with my laptop, but not my Android O-running Pixel XL. I'm quite sure I have all the settings set correctly.

I just purchased the Fintie bluetooth keyboard and case ($30 Amazon) for my wifi Samsung Galaxy Tab A T580 and it works great. Sorry that doesn't help you, but maybe return and get another brand?

I am also having this issue with the Logitech K380 and Android O on the Pixel. Previously, this keyboard worked fine with Nougat on the Pixel.

Bluetooth functionality has been restored as of Android O Developer Preview 4 with my Logitech K380.

I also have this issue, maybe it is Android's issue

[Q] Anyone got Bluetooth HID working? I can pair and connect but no worky

With the latest Transformer firmware I have paired and connected an Apple Wireless keyboard. But typing doesn't do anything.
It's frustrating as it shows up as "Connected to input device".
Anyone else have any luck?

Have you installed a keyboard app?
I have a little mini bluetooth keyboard (no name chinese) which I usually use with my Galaxy Tab. Just tried it on my Transformer, and it works perfectly.
Regards,
Dave
I've got a think outside BT keyboard and it works perfectly with the Transformer...
Interesting it's working for you guys. Did you have to install anything? Or change any HC settings?
Maybe it's something to do with the Apple keyboard hardware.
I don't know why but I've always had trouble with Apple stuff that i've tried to connect to other non apple devices via bluetooth. Apple to apple bluetooth is always fine though which is strange. I don't know much about bluetooth but maybe apple products use a non-standard profile or something.
My Apple keyboard did not work either when pairing. I got another bluetooth keyboard out, and that worked correctly.
Looks like I need to get a new one.... Are there any Bluetooth keyboards with android keys like the search and menu keys?

Xoom Keyboard is only one I know available that is made with android keys. I think acer is coming out with one for Iconia and I foresee many 3rd party companies making one in near future.
I can confirm that the Apple Wireless key get paired, reckognized but...not working

I have this same problem, but I didn't know a keyboard app was required. Any suggestions on a good app?
i too am in a similar situation
Purchased the ZAGG bluetooth keyboard. It pairs fine and works with my iPad, and even my Galaxy Nexus. However on my Eee Pad Transformer, it pairs, but can't use it.

[Q] External keyboard?

Hi all,
I'm trying to find an external keyboard for my rooted, CM7 Optimus T for under $50. It doesn't matter if it's USB or bluetooth keyboard as long as the phone is propped up when typing on the keyboard (an integrated dock would be nice). If you guys have any ideas let me know.
Thanks.
I've never thought of an external keyboard for you're/a phone.Isn't enough the touchscreen keyboard?
I feel like I could type much faster with an external keyboard compared to on-screen keyboard. Plus, the on-screen keyboard that I'm using is a swype-like keyboard so it would be nice if I have a letter-by-letter tactile keyboard as an alternative.
I'm using CM7 2.3.4 (mik_os) and from what I've gathered it could run the standard-fare HID bluetooth keyboard (please correct me if I'm wrong), so I bought one of them off Amazon for $17 (after looking up "mini blueetooth keyboard"). It'll arrive in 2 days so we'll see. Any app that I need to install to configure the keyboard more easily? (I've heard many bluetooth keyboards don't have Android instructions).
The other thing I would like is to prop up the phone when I type so I'll probably need some sort of a kick stand or a dock. Any suggestions? I've came across the iGo Stowaway which is a foldable keyboard/stand - a perfect solution but very expensive so I would like a cheaper alternative for a stand after purchasing the keyboard.
Thanks.
Bluetooth keyboard
Hi, I bought a bluetooth keyboard from ebay for around $20 and got it working on cm7 with a program called BlueInput from the market.
Has worked flawlessly evertime for several months.
get an app called WiFi Keyboard on the android market for free.
It works great and can turn any networked computer's keyboard into a keyboard for your android
search at ebay. there are good bluetooth keyboards and u need to install a driver to make it work, which the manufacturer provides

[Q] Using Apple or other Bluetooth keyboards?

I tried to pair the touchpad with my Apple Bluetooth keyboard and it could not find any Bluetooth keyboards. Does is work with any non-HP keyboards? Should I be worried my bluetooth radio is broken (needing warranty)? Do I need to buy the HP keyboard?
Thanks
I updated to the latest web os 3.0.2 and still have this issue. Any ideas?

I tried as well - no luck.
It sees my Apple BT keyboard.
Asks for Passkey. I don't think I have one - did you get that far?
nm, i got it to successfully pair. Basically when it asks for the Passkey you have the enter 8 digits...
and then it'll spin - then you enter that on the keyboard and press Enter and for me it worked.
With the Apple compact aluminum BT keyboard. it's kind of delayed so maybe I need to charge my batteries on the kb.
it's definitely working though.

Success with Logitech MX5000
Last night I successfully paired my 32GB Touchpad with a 6 year old Logitech MX5000 keyboard. It was nice to have a full sized keyboard when I had alot of typing to do.
i'm interested in this due to the release of that upcomming thinkpad keyboard that will go with the thinkpad tablet. Was planning on buying one but seeing as I now have a tablet which works perfectly fine for what I will be doing (writing scouting reports) I may just see about the keyboard.
I was trying to get my wii mote to pair but it would not. From what I understand, the bluetooth stack in the touchpad is extremely limited.
I got it to work with the Verbatim folding portable BT keyboard.
If anyone is looking for a mini bluetooth keyboard that works I can confirm that this one works great http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mini-bluetooth-keyboard-for-android-wince-nokia-symbian-s60-cellphones-black-37863 And its only $18.70, the placement of a few of the symbols like the arrow keys take a while to get use to, but it works great and you can thumb type quite easily on it.
Edit: I found what looks like the same one on ebay for $11.88, not sure if you can post links to ebay here so just search "Ultra Slim Mini Bluetooth Keyboard For PC PS3 PDA" and you will find it.
I just got my Touchpad to pair with my old, folding Dell Axim keyboard. Works pretty well too.
The trick was a 4 digit code entered on both the Touchpad and the keyboard.

Does anyone know if a bluetooth case keyboard like thishttp://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-Ipad-Leather-Case-And-Bluetooth-Keyboard-/300570582168?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item45fb671c98#ht_4233wt_1139 will work? Or if anything can anyone provide feedback of a keyboard/case similar to this which worked on their touchpad? Thanks

I scooped up an Adesso BT keyboard/case intended for an IPad at Compusa the other day, and was able to successfully pair. I've posted my method in another thread but will post it again in here because I first came in here seeking the way and didn't find it .
www adesso com - under ipad2 keyboards
The Bluetooth Keyboard. - In order to pair with this thing, you must
- turn on bluetooth on Keyb and touchpad
- search for keyboards in bluetooth prefs
- put in a key on the touchpad screen
I used `12345678"
- then type the same on the keyboard (NOTE* You will not see any prompts on the screen, just type "12345678" and press enter. ) This was how I got it to sync and have been able to repeat it . SYNC
I was able to pair mine with a Motorola Bluetooth Keyboard (came with my old Atrix), it asked for a 4 digit passkey, I entered 0000 and it let me thorough.
none of the function keys work but all the generic keys do so will do for now.
I had no problem pairing with my Zaggmate and the bonus is that the iPad is the same size so I can dock it for typing and put them together for transport
I paired my Apple Bluetooth keyboard with the Touchpad and it works great. I wish the volume keys and all that stuff would work too, but I guess just being able to type fast is good enough. So here were the steps I took to pair it
1. While keyboard is off, hold power button until it goes into pairing mode (the light starts blinking a bit).
2. On Touchpad, search for wireless keyboards and select "Apple Wireless Keyboard".
3. On Touchpad type in any password you want (I used a 4 number pin).
4. Right after you click OK on the Touchpad, type the same password in on the keyboard and click the enter key after. After this, the keyboard should be paired DDDD
I just bough a Bluetooth keyboard for iPad, its a folding leather protective case. It works great. To get it to pair just enter 12345678 on the password and hit enter. If that doesn't work also hit 12345678 on the keyboard and enter. Its just a bummer that the arrow keys do not allow you to scroll down web pages, but great for taking notes or composing emails!

Logitech bluetooth keyboard apple Ipad type

I picked up the Logitech bluetooth keyboard and case, apple Ipad version, for cheap last week. I'm trying to get it to work with my Inspire. I've managed to get it to pair up, although not connect. I suspect in this case I don't "connect" but instead have to install a driver that will enable me to use this keyboard with my Inspire, and then when I want to use it, I should be in a text entry situation and select the bluetooth keyboard as my "keyboard".
At any rate, so far I'm having no success with getting the keyboard to actually let me enter text onto my Inspire. Has anyone seen whether this will indeed work with Gingerbread or perhaps it only works with tablets that have Honeycomb or perhaps ICS?

Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse not working properly. Please Help! Bluetooth Problem

I just recently bought a used Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 SM-P905V about 2months ago. Everything is fine but until now where I tried connecting a new Logitech bluetooth keyboard and a bluetooth Microsoft mouse.
Mouse Problem:
There seems to be a lag with the mouse pointer where it would freeze for half a second then it would go very fast. This happens constantly. Tried it on my laptop and the mouse works perfectly there.
Keyboard Problem:
After typing 3 words on the Note Pro, it would repeat a letter, or an input I push many times. For example, "My name is Chhhhhhhhhhhhhharlie". I tried using this keyboard on my Samsung S5 phone and my laptop and it works perfectly on those devices. I bought this tablet for school work like writing notes and typing papers so this is a disappointment.
So the problem seems to be my bluetooth on my SM-P905V, what can I do to fix the problem?
Bluetooth is integrated circuit on this model and it's used, failed bluetooth or wifi is nothing to be surprised.
Try to clear data and cache in Recovery Mode or Factory Reset.
Your mouse and keyboard are working fine with other devices so the problem is from BT connection. It's impossible to fix as many components are involved and mainboard has to be replaced.
I have one Note Pro with not working BT, it doesn't bother me as I rarely use BT for anything.

I have the same issue intermittently, and unfortunately its well documented that many others have had this issue as well.
It only seems to be an issue when you have both a keyboard and mouse connected.
its like they interfere with eachother a bit intermittently.
if you use one or the other they work fine in my experience, even using one wired and one wireless fixes the issue.
I switched to using a wired keyboard and mouse but I've also found just using the keyboard (wired or wireless) works well too as the touchscreen works pretty well for mouse input even for teamviewer, though I understand your frustration with not being able to use both easily.
