Flashing single SIM software on dual sim - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I've got dual SIM version 955FD and would like to flash UK EE 955F software via odin so I can take benefit of VoLte function. Is this possible and will both SIM still work?

In the end I didn't flash ROM.

If you were to flash, would you be requiring Root and TWRP or simply via Odin?

He was talking about firmware so odin.
A rom is totally different and that requires twrp

You can't possibly do that since many extra features will be present in the dual sim firmware than compared to the single sim firmware . Play safe

The dual SIM variant uses the SAME firmware as the single SIM variant. You CAN flash other firmware with no problem. You will lose nothing at all.

Service is fine, just as it is on my F s7 edge and note 7 FD .
I dont think VoLTE works with it out of the box but that's not overly important to me anyway nor is wifi calling etc.
Id rather lose some unimportant features that i dont care about then get stuck with a locked bootloader piece of junk device that i cant mod if I want to

Features such as, Settings/Connections/SIM CARD MANAGER which allows you to chose from one SIM or both and more. I believe the normal version does not have this section, it does not make any sense. Can you confirm?

What is the unlocked G920T?

Best Buy sells an unlocked version of the G920T - http://goo.gl/bk4ukE
It's not T-Mobile. It's unlocked and has no carrier bloat - just the usual Samsung stuff. It shows "4G" for LTE. (Edit: Correction - after the OTA referenced below, it shows H+ and LTE)
It came with 5.1.1 out of the box, build ending in COG3.
It had a 272mb software update immediately available that took it up to the build ending in COK1 and added the Android Security Patch Level line showing 2015-11-01.
Just curious how this model fits into the other unlocked models (f, i, etc.). Did Samsung simply take the T-Mobile model and sell a variant unlocked with no T-Mobile influence?
Sorry to bump this but I'm seeing a few more of these in the wild now and trying to figure it out. It's gotta have the same internals as the T-Mobile variant since the model number is the same, I'm assuming anyway? The full model is SM-G920TZKAX, but the packaging and phone just shorten it to T. The T-Mobile model is SM-G920TZDATMB. I guess knowing what the letters after G920T mean would be helpful.
From what I've read it appears to be a unlocked version of the T-Mobile variant. Can't find much information about it.
I purchased the unlocked version from Best Buy yesterday for $450. Rooted it and could not be happier.

What method did you use? I'm concerned about doing any mods due to not having the right software to flash back to (which we don't have right?).
I used the follow root method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/galaxy-s6-root-5-1-1-variants-t3147074
As for going back to stock, you can always use smart switch, or ODIN back to stock rom.

I just bought this yesterday as an open box for $380. I was worried that is wouldn't have LTE band 17 for AT&T as the normal 920T is listed as missing this band. The Best Buy version does have band 17 and I'm connected on it now. Very happy with the phone so far.

you can also see the specs for the phone on Samsung's website. http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SM-G920TZKAXAR
4G FDD LTE: B1(2100), B2(1900),B3(1800),B4 (AWS),B5(850),B7(2600),B12(700),B17(700),B20(800)
Firmware?
Love the phone with no carrier bloatware, would have preferred 64GB but I can make due. I would like to root it but not without having factory firmware to fall back on. Even though it's a 920T it's has no T-Mobile apps so I'm pretty sure I can't load a T-Mobile ROM on it. If anyone runs across formware for a SM-G920TZKAXAR PLEASE let us know. TIA
Does this work with Samsung Pay?
Has anyone tried getting this to work with Samsung Pay? I saw on a Slickdeals thread that it will not work ... would love confirmation.
Also, and I know this is a very, very slight chance anyone will know this, but -- will this work with my old, granfathered T-Zones data plan?

Currently this variant is awaiting official upgrade, most nougat roms are not going to work fully as call audio is broken, you may need to wait till official update is released to have all functions.

My phone's Model number is SM-g930FD

I couldn't find the firmware of this model on sammobile.... Can I use odin to flash SM-g930F ??
Would I brick my phone?
I have found a TWRP flash instruction , can it be applied on the model SM-G930FD??
You have a dual sim phone, i wouldn't flash a firmware from a single sim phone.
In the title it mentions fd so it should work http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/recovery-official-twrp-herolte-t3333770

Are you from UAE? I had this is in mind when I was buying this phone. Thought about waiting few more months for Souq and SharafDG Online to show up with the Global version(Single SIM). But decided to go with the DUOS for warranty purpose. Moreover I love TouchWiz now. How is your battery life and device temperature like? You pre-ordered?

I am from Taiwan, here, we can only get the international version, which is a dual sim card. The battery life, to be honest, not as good as other 3000mAh phone such as xioami 4,my last used phone. But with the quick charge, it almost get full charge after I plugin for 60 mins, so the battery life wont be concerned :good:

If we can flash the TWRP why can't be the ROM of the GLOBAL version(SM-G930F). Just we'll lose the Dual SIM capability, Right? Correct me if I'm wrong.
PS: I didn't buy S7 bcoz it had dual sim slots. Just bcoz I couldn't get Single SIM variant here in Dubai.

Hi..Long time lurker here..Just want to say something..
I got my S7 G930FD from Globe on March 14..Able to Sim Unlock it just the other day using a Paid Legit Unlock Site..But even if it's sim unlock there is still some bloat Globe had left in my phone...
To shorten my story I decided to flash a G930F rom..Specifically G930FXXU1APB6-G930FXXU1APB6-G930FOLB1APB6 that came from Samfirm.net..
All is working fine..I still have dual sim..I can both use 3G/LTE on both Sim(Not simultaneous of course)..
So I can confirm it's safe to flash Single Sim Rom to the Dual Sim Variant as long as both is F (G930F - G930FD)..

Too bad. That's what i've been trying to remove, the indication that the phone is a dual sim variant. Heck, if i can also remove the "duos" on the back of the phone i will gladly do it.
Anyway, if that is the case, doesn't that mean that there will be no official firmware to be released specifically for G930FD? Interesting.

Did S7 have the globe boot animation on startup?

So is it true that S8 cannot be cross carrier flashed?

I have been reading about people who get their s8 network unlocked and try to flash to a different carrier firmware only to find that it does not change but stays on the original.. did samsung block this or is odin outdated? Theories??
I just got my unlock code for my ATT S8+ too and was sad to see that this may be true.

I wish it was possible but I've been told I'm just not smart enough to figure it out. I would have thought in two weeks we would have seen proof of people doing it by now.
I believe we're waiting for a newer version of Odin before we will be able to successfully flash. There's a userdata file I believe that we need to flash as well.

On the S7e it took someone making a modified ODIN to get it to work. Was very handy once completed though, but the normal ODIN could not do it.
Has anyone tried the modified Odin? I know it's linked in at least one of the Tmobile S7e threads.

Yes it does, people are using it to flash Canadian firmware on the US models for less bloatware.
Also all the US models are "u " models and others have been successfully flashing other carriers firmware with regular odin.

LR&D Carrier Switch/Root Snapdragon
https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?ur...share_tid=3597473&share_fid=3793&share_type=t
Somewhere around page 45 start reading.
However this makes it generic Canadian firmware. So no volte or wifi calling. I'm guessing we're still a few weeks off to be able to move from US carrier to US carrier.
The userdata odin change is the important part (as well as using the Odin that doesn't check firmware hash).
I'm going to go Canadian this eve and then reflashing with my T-Mobile SIM in back to the 955u firmware. Which I'm guessing won't work. But we'll see!

Thanks for replying. I am not interested in data. Can we enable 4g sims at the same time so that both can receive normal phone calls?
Well 4g does not support calling its volte that supports. As mentioned earlier no phone supports dual volte connectivity at the same time. As of now there is no phone chipset that does this.

Not likely.
We used to be able to do that and vice versa using a modified version of odin but i haven't seen it used in quite some time.
