Verizon offered me a $100 off code for the gear S3. So I'd be able to get it off contract for $300 before fees. I already have the gear S3 with only wifi. Should I consider it? I'm really curious as to whether anyone has tried using it as a standalone device and if it is really practical.

It should work fine only thing you'll have to worry about is updates. I have the WiFi gear s3 classic so I only have to wait for samsung to release an update to the US while on carrier you probably have to wait for them to send out the update. Of there than that every thing else should work fine

Except S voice doesn't work like it should after it's last update which I think has been about two months ago.

S voice hasn't worked properly since launch for a lot of people so that's not a problem. I have problems with my Galaxy s5 too

I just bought the watch yesterday and S Voice was functioning just fine. Then I took a software update and it killed half the functionality. I can't reply to text messages with S voice unless I change my language to English UK. Then Everytime she talks to me she has an accent. There's a thread that many others have shared the same exact issue. I'm going to be returning mine. I love it except for S voice.

Yeah in my opinion s voice was going to be crappy from before the watch got launched. S voice in general is crap. It needs to updated to Bixby in the future hopefully that will help if not then a different voice system

Just went to the Gear S2 Apps store and wtf, the Samsung Pay app is there to download for my Classic 3g model independently of the firmware upgrade that we've been waiting for. It requires a secondary download for the phone as well, but sadly when opening the phone app it says I'm not in the proper country or some mumbo jumbo like that. Chime in. What's going on here guys? You'll find the app under top free, then scrolling down. It won't show up if you use the search button.
Update: reading the fine print on the phone app, it states that it's only working on the bluetooth model. This is some serious neglect on the 3g model side of things. Come on Tmobile and Samsung. Where is our Major firmware update at least that includes all of the new perks? It's been over 2 months since that release already.
I called them and they said it's not available yet...it is strange that it's now showing up! I got my hopes up too soon!

It's not there for me.
(Verizon S2 Sport 3G)
I, too, downloaded the Samsung Pay app for my Verizon Gear S2 3G smartwatch with the same error message stating wrong country or wrong smartwatch version. I confirmed that the 3G versions are not yet supported which is so frustrating. The latest update with the sleep tracker function amongst other updates has not even been released for the 3G version. Samsung needs to address this issue right away and really needs to improve their support for updates, software, etc. Getting old fast.
I contacted Essential support and asked if the phone would support WiFi calling. They responded yes but to contact the carrier to make sure. I am currently on Verizon so I contacted Verizon and they said yes it did support WiFi calling. I was a bit skeptical but I had the agent verify the phone model number. Hopefully this is accurate. I finalized my pre-order right after.
I would take this for what its worth until we have the device in our hands and can make sure. I just thought I would share.

Exactly my question as well... Anyone have a spec sheet comparison bw this and pixel 2?
Awesome. Hope this is true. Ordered mine, but if Volte and WiFi calling don't work I'll have to send it back.

I don't know how anyone could have an accurate spec sheet comparison for a phone that has not been officially announced yet. It would just be speculation and leaks, which are often wrong.
That aside, I think if one is inclined to compare this phone to the Pixel 2 (as I am), why not just wait? It will be announced soon and then you can make an actual comparison between the two phones. Also hopefully by then the other colors will be available (since I don't like the glossy black or white colors).
Unless you desparately need a new phone now, I don't see the harm in waiting.
Thanks for sharing, I'm on Verizon as well, and I just ordered my essential ph-1. Hope that rep is correct and not just blowing smoke, but at least now I can be optimistic!
So the word on the street from the first folks that got their phone is no WiFi calling for Verizon. If that is the case my phone will be going back.

Hopefully it gets certified soon. Only feature that doesn't work for me on Verizon is WiFi calling. I actually get a bar of LTE in my house so it is ok for now. My ribs iPhone gets no service just like my s8 and pixel. I'm actually shocked I get any service, nobody does where I live.
Visual voicemail won't work either.
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
I cannot get wifi calling or voicemail (either proper voicemail notification or visual voicemail to work) with Verizon. Everything else seems to work fine.
Does anyone know which default network we should use for Verizon to maximize signal and battery? I am in a fringe area so small differences in reception is a big deal.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone running the google pixel 2 on AT&T unlocked? If so thoughts, I've been reading that VoLTE does not work nor does WiFi calling. I have a Samsung S8 that I purchased from Best Buy and I flashed the AT&T firmware to get all this working. I know that this phone is not on AT&T so I doubt there will be a way to flash any firmware since this device is not sold by AT&T.
Anyway, just throwing it out there for feedback from Google Pixel 2 users on AT&T.
I signed up for Android beta, and had VoLTE and HD voice on AT&T, but not wifi calling. I switched back to the Nov security release to see if Bluetooth issues were fixed and those things went away. I have since re-signed up for the beta, but haven't gotten an OTA yet for the next beta, but I'd assume they will come back. So the answer to your question is yes and no....

Thank you for the feedback, this is the only thing that keeps me from buying this phone unlocked. At&T service sucks where I work, so I'm dependent on WiFi calling functionality. I think I may have to switch to Verizon if I really want this phone.
I went back and forth on keeping it vs going back to my HTC One M9 that seemed to work flawlessly.... The Pixel 2 is nice and the battery is sweet, but I feel like the technology goes backwards sometimes with the Bluetooth issues and lack of some casting support. I decided to keep it, in the hopes that the Bluetooth issues will get resolved, and the battery life. I have good AT&T service, so those things I never had, I didn't even know what I was missing.

I have an S8 that I purchased out right unlocked from Best Buy. The phone is good but I get irritated because it runs like a snail from time to time and it drives me insane. A quick reboot fixes it all but then after some use (days) it's starts doing it again. Maybe it's all the dumb Samsung bloatware that slows it down. Which is why I like the clean vanilla UI on the pixel 2.

I can confirm that HD voice works fine on my unlocked Pixel 2 on AT&T. HD voice was added in Android 8.1.

Not sure. You can test it yourself though. Find another phone (person) on AT&T with a handset that supports HD voice and make a phone call - making sure you're in well covered LTE area.
You will see "HD" displayed on you Pixel 2 screen under the name of the person you're calling.
I know in the past, the only way to get wifi calling on T-mobile was to buy the phone directly from them with the feature pre-installed. Unfortunately, T-Mobile isn't selling the 4a, so that's not an option. Can anyone confirm or deny whether wifi calling works (or can be made to work) with a T-mobile sim?

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to hear.
Did you have to do anything special to get it working, or did it just work out of the box?

Worked and enabled out the box.
Perfect. Placing order now.
My Nokia 6.1 has been a trooper for the last couple years, but I could definitely do with an upgrade - especially with updates ended and patches ending soon.

Good deal. Just got mine the other day and really enjoying it. Got bored with my iphone pro. Just for your reference I took a screenshot of the settings.
Got it yesterday and can confirm that yes, wifi calling does work on t-mobile out of the box.
I have the LTE version of the GW4. When purchasing I assumed it was identical to the bluetooth version. It appears that there is a difference besides the LTE radio. When I am connected via bluetooth all is great. I can get my calls on the watch, as well as make them. If I am remotely connected even on same wifi, everything works, including text, but not phone calls. From what I can gather, this is not the case on bluetooth version watches. Ive tried everything. I will get a missed call notification few seconds after the originating call hangs up, but no ringing on the phone, and if I initiate a call from the watch it wont go through, unless connected via bluetooth. Guess my question boils down to, can I chaange the firmware to match that of the blutooth version. I do not have a mobile plan attached to the watch, as my carrier charges $20 plus tax for wearable.
Thanks
Watch needs a plan is why.

I already purchased the watch months ago. My question is a firmware question. Can the LTE version be flashed to the Bluetooth version firmware.
Thanks
