Battery life on latest 4.70 firmware f3111 - Sony Xperia XA Questions & Answers

How's your sot on this latest firmware guys and did you notice any improvements from 3.81 firm version? I'm on 3.81 and I'm disapointed about the battery life. It's too short...

I really don't know what you're saying. Sot means screen on time. On the 3.81 firmware I'm getting about 4h sot, just browsing, youtube mainly on wifi, a little bit of data traffic. 4h, no games with screen brightness at minimum is just pathetic... Bad deal with this phone...

He's probably saying that his phone takes too long to charge from 90% to 100%. With that said though, I have yet to update to the latest version.

Even without updating to the latest version, I sometimes experience that phenomenon. Heck, my phone sometimes blatantly stops charging for no reason at all and I would have to turn off the phone to be able to charge it.

No problems for me thus far, but the battery is extremly week. I wonder if undervolting the cpu would increse a little bit the life per charge cycle... Anyway, I regret buying this phone, but it's my fault entirely that I did...

Unfortunately, my problem escalated quickly. The phone isn't charging anymore and I've tried different cables and chargers. It seems like my xa has a hardware problem, thankfully though I haven't rooted and unlocked the bootloader of this thing. Gomna have to send it back for warranty.

I think it is because QNOVO ADAPTIVE charging
That adapts your charging behaviour
Like many of us leaves the phone to charging over full night that damages the battery
So sony added a featutre qnovo adaptive charging that adapts charging behaviour and if someone is one of those people who left there mobile to plug in full night
It will automatically decreases charging speed from 90 to 100 %

[Q] One X's horrible charging??

Has anyone experienced problems with the way their One X charges? Mine charges blazing fast and well all the way from 1 to 90 in about an hour and sometimes an hour and half, but then from 91 to 100 it takes easily another hour... and not just that, if i use the phone to talk or play a game while its charging from 91 to 100, sometimes it'll stop charging or even discharge!! i always keep it cool cause i know overheating causes it to stop charging for a while and I always make sure the charger is connected correctly both to the outlet and to the phone, cause if its a little loose on the outlet it also causes it to charge slowly i know all of that... literally I check everything and its all fine... soo just me?? or known from then HOX?? ive calibrated lots of times and it happens with all roms even stock ones....
EDIT: added a screenshot so u see wt i mean, and yes i did unplug it twice but that has nothing to do with the problem, it has happened letting it charge straight from 1-100 too

It's actually how all Li-Po/Li-Ion batteries charge. Some manufacturers (cough Apple) show the phone/tablet battery at 100% when it is actually only at 90%. It's part of the reason when you do a full cycle of a phone battery you should leave it plugged in for at least one hour after you hit "100%"

HTC probably is displaying the actual battery percentage. (So it is at 90%). You could test it if you wanted by seeing how much current the phone is pulling when it hits 100%.
For example, I own a new iPad (yeah boo hiss). It will show 100% on the display, but the charger will still be pulling full charging current for 90 minutes or so. Apple displays 100% when the iPad is anywhere above 90% or so. It's the same reason why some phones will seem to take forever to go from 100% to 99% after they are fully charged.

aah well if thats the case then i think its charging accurately, cause when i unplug it exactly as it hits 100% it takes a while till it drops to 99%.. like i said battery life is good its just that last 10% taking so long to charge that bothers me.. also if i unplug it when its anywhere lower than 90% it drains pretty quickly even without using it much.. like if it lasts 12-16 hours unplugging at 100%, itll last about 6-8 hours unplugging before it finishes charging

[Bug] Charging phone while using results in shutdown with red led

Not sure if this is related to 4.4 or the nexus 5 specifically (pretty sure its the hardware). While using the phone during charging it doesn't charge fast enough to keep powered on. My wife was on facebook when hers went down, and I was playing knights of pen and paper when mine went down. The phone will eventually just power off and flash the red led 8 times. The only way to power it back on is to load the bootloader first (vol up + vol down + power) then press the power on start. I tested this on 2 black 32GB Nexus 5s with android 4.4.
This is really easy to test, next time your device is low keep using it after plugging it in. It will eventually just "go dark" and you'll be greeted by the flashing red led.
Here is a link to the google group product forum thread I created, please post feedback. This needs to get fixed, hopefully just an update can resolve it.

Yikes. This isn't good. The only time the phone may not be able to keep up with charge is when using GPS. If this is a widespread issue I'm sure it will be fixed. Unless you have a bad battery or charger! I will test..
Update:
Just played game Aurolux whilst charging for 10 minutes and phone gained 5%.

I tested it on both mine and my wifes phones, different chargers as well. Also the load on the devices was low, both were on wifi, she was using the facebook app, I was playing knights of pen and paper, both on auto brightness (in our living room, lights off). Same thing happened on both, screen just cuts out, red light starts flashing.
Hopefully it gets fixed, if more people will test it and post feedback here or at googles forum it would be great.

Same here. Zero issues playing games and phone charges.
Are you using a custom ROM or kernel? That could explain it. Otherwise you either have two did chargers, or 2 did batteries, or a combination of both.

I guess I could try to charge when it's below 10%, but maybe easier is if you try charging whilst using your phone above say 20%. If you still have the issue then I think it's device related, if not report back.

I'm gonna give that a shot tomorrow. Its getting late and need to get up for work in a couple hours. Thanks for testing, makes me wonder though if it is my phones, or if its and issue with a low battery and charging/using.....maybe something related to the reason why you cant do an update until your battery is at 20% despite being connected to a charger.

They seem to charge just fine when left alone. It just seems too coincidental that both phones would have the exact same power issue.

dont forget, the snapdragon has 'quick charge 2.0', you shouldn't be seeing that kind of charging issues. i mean, if it's something you're ok living with. but that sounds like a big indicator that the battery or charging module is faulty/will go bad soon

No I'm already getting mine replaced for dead pixels but to have 2 phones experience the same issue like this is weird. Need more people to test the phones under 10%, I know they charge fast but there could be a reason why behind this like I listed above.
The only thing I notice is the charger does get quite warm when charging, but it's very fast.

could it possibly be the cable, or the charger unit, or even the wall socket? these are all things that should be tested
I just wanted to say that I had the same issue as you and the problem so far seems to happen when you let the battery get pretty low before plugging it in.
The battery was down to about 8% when I plugged the phone in last night (to the lg charger). I actually left mine alone for about 30 minutes and when I came back, it was at 6%. I did verify that the display said "Charging" when the cable was plugged in. I unplugged the phone, and plugged it back in and started browsing the web on wifi and within another 15 minutes the battery had gone down to 2%. I turned off the screen and left it alone and when I checked it again, it was at 1%. At that point, I was worried about the phone, so I urned off the phone completely. When I turned it back on, it did look like it was charging again, but very slowly. At this point, I tried plugging it into another charger that I had, and it charged up fairly quickly.
Definitely pretty frustrating as I've never had something like this happen unless you have the usb cable plugged into a computer.
Last night I went to plug my phone into the lg charger...I could hear the charger buzzing slightly....I plugged in the phone and thought nothing of it really... Looked at my phone on the way to work and it wasn't charged past 28%.... plugged it into another charger at my desk and its at 47% in a matter of minutes...
I know op said he tried different chargers, but just tossing in my lousy 2c

The only chargers I tried were the ones that came with the phones. I got a bunch of others so Im going to give them a shot as well and see how this fairs.
Ok so Im sitting here trying to recreate the issue and it is different. I brought the battery down to 4% plugged it in and kept playing kop&p and the battery hasnt gone down, it actually went up to 7% but its holding there. I am letting it get to 10% now before I pick it up and try again. I swapped out between the n5 charger and my n4 charger both held it at 7% while playing.
Maybe this just has to do with battery conditioning, or maybe the snapdragon quickcharge ic.
Just checked the phone, from the time I started writing this till now (maybe 2 minutes) its up to 10% so back at it I go.
The charger that comes with the phone is horrible. Its the same type as the n4 which dies after 2 months. Don't use it, just use another one and you'll be just fine.

[Q] OPO dying after 40% battery charge

Hey folks
Lately my OPO started to have some hiccups with battery. So the problem is that once my battery percentage goes below 40% my OPO turns off. When I try to turn on the phone it never boots up. Any idea why its happening and solution will be greatly appreciated.
Note: I tried to have full charge cycle (going from 100% to zero)but it never worked. I tried charging phone while its tuned off and turn it on once its fully charged but it didn't work either.
Thanks
Sorry to tell you but your battery is likely physically malfunctioning and no amount of battery draining will fix it. Odds are, your battery has started bulging a little already.
Do you typically leave your OPO plugged into the wall charger for extended periods of time, even after it has reached 100%?
I damaged both my previous Note 1 and even a laptop batteries this way. Both would just shut off after dropping to a number like 50% or 55%. Both batteries had a bulge.

Hello,
Can you please elaborate issue?

[
More in depth description of the problem
I Purchased a NOTE EDGE Used about 2 weeks ago, I was told the problem was a generic battery causing the phone to overheat, I bought A New battery which somewhat solved the overheating problem however upon using the phone even with a new battery I noticed there still is significant battery drain in a short time. Also When the phone is completely off the battery still drains at a fast rate, If plugged in the battery doesn't die but charges extremely slowly even with a rapid charger and rapid charge activated. Another Issue that I have is when I remove the battery the phone will not turn back on once its back inside unless plugged in and when I connect by usb to the computer it shows connected on the phone and on the computer but in programs such as Odin it doesn't show up unless I remove and re install the battery multiple times I've done all I can think of to fix this ( bought a new battery, tried re flashing the firmware, Shut off all unused apps and turned off all data Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, dimmed the screen, battery saver etc.. ) the phone drains regardless even when phone is completely powered down.

N.m. just googled it
After I updated to 6.0.1 update on my note edge , once the battery reaches 49% it just turns off , it doesn't turn on , while I put it for recharge the battery charge shows 49% and it turns on.
I have done 3 factory resets still the problem arise. I did factory reset to clear cache and to clear any errors in apps. This is my primary phone for work and I need to carry power bank all the time. Please assist
Time to change the battery. It is not about the percentage of the battery. It is more about that the voltage breaking. As it seems the battery can not longer hold its voltage due to battery age. When the voltage breaks, the device will automatically shut down to due low voltage

the only solution i see is to stop buying original battery replacment since it might not be the issue , rather slap a zerolemon 9000 mah battery on , it looks like a tank but at least the battery last lol.
Im still having trouble with mines too, injust dont understand why phone is draining battery while off and fast . You ciuld feel the heat off the phone while off...
Maybe you should try to get an extended battery pack? here's what i tried - so far so good! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i70xqUNoYVE

will using the 6x while charging does any harm ??

can using the phone while charging can harm charging port or battery ? im asking this because i was using some days ago my galaxy note 3 like this one day and it stopped charging and was dead..
I don't know about harming the port but, it will definitely hurt the battery, So I don't recommend doing this except when it is an emergency

Note 3 was launched 4 years ago. Battery would have gone bad, you would have noticed the degradation.
In some phones, especially those which charge very fast, the temperature can rise to a high level which reduces the life of the battery, but should not impact much if you are using a phone for 1-3 years. Though one needs to stop charging / using the phone if the temperature reaches very high (say above 60 degree Celsius).
Honor 6X charges very slowly while using and the temperature doesn't rise as much (as compared to other phones), hence that impact is likely going to be lower.
Generally it's not a good idea to use whil charging all the time.
I strongly suggest you to use the phone while is under charge the less that you can, especially being careful about using it in combination with mobile data/GPS services/internet browsing and apps that requires particularly usage of RAM. This because the li-polymer battery plugged on charge with the original charger of 6X, that supports fast charge and so will "push" inside it a stronger power than a normal charger, will almost immediately reach a voltage of 4.1-4.2V to ensure the fast charge service and this is the limit that you want to maintain for being sure that the battery will last the longest time. Using it under charge with mobile data or others mentioned above, will easily overcome the 4.2V limit to 4.3V or even more, depending on what you'll be using, and so the ions capacity will be reduced faster, letting them contain less energy than the original capacity while time passes by.

I try to never use it, except when in emergency
It doesn't but thats not a good practice in general. With continuous usage, it may get more heated that is not good for battery, phone and eventually you.
Because charging itself will hear up the phone and using it may increase further so avoid it buddy.

I always charge my phone overnight for these years and nothing happens... maybe I switch phones too fast to notice battery issue... :silly:

Hehe may be. I will take time to charge in morning or in night during dinner for 20-40% and then in morning for another 40-50% or if wake up early then may be i charge full 100%. Anything above 80 ia good for entire if couldn't charge full still have 20-30% left when reach home in night.

Almost the same here; i limit the charge to 80% with Battery Charge Limit, i wake up at morning with 79-78%, i go at work and when i come back at evening usually i have around 55-60% left due various jumps here on XDA, internet browsing, some calls and a few messages. When i go to bed i plug in the phone just for a mid-hour so it can reach 80% again, then i remove it from charge and so on.
