Had anybody found a working version of Google Dialer that works with the U11? Most notably spam calls, and local caller ID?

I'm not really sure why they wouldn't work if you install it as an APK. I flashed a Lineage-based rom on my M8 (still waiting for the U11 ugh) and the dialer works fine there.

The problem which i have is, the dialer app works, but when i start a call or a call is comming inn, the HTC dialer is still comming up instead of the Google one. Is there a way to get rid of it completely? Maybe to install the seccond app which is required, i think Google Phone and Messanger Storage or Goole Phone Services?

It's already configured as the default Phone App, but anyway, when i do an call and the connection was etablished, the old HTC Dialer is popping up over the Google one. I have two options then to switch to the Google one, press on the back button or expand the notification area and switch manually. This happen even if i disable the HTC Dialer App with Titanium Backup.

Updated versions of the Google dialer can be found here to work on non-pixel devices.

Can't disable...but you can turn off its access. I turned everything off for it. Problem I have is with Google dialer on, nothing is identified except my contacts. Not incoming calls, spam, nothing.

Ahem...
Let me start by saying that this device is definitely up there with the finest when it comes to build quality. I mean, this thing is smooth, beautifully machined, great screen, great sound quality, ad nauseam etc etc...
But! The dialer app looks like it's rendered in Netscape Navigator (yeah, I'm old). Not only is it impractical as F**K but why does it not default to my Favorites like every single modern phone out there?
Why does it insist to always show the SIM slot number next to every single contact entry, even though I only have one of those creepy micro soul/wallet suckers?
Why is the incoming call such a nightmarish affair and don't even get me started on the ongoing call screen. Ho God, the buttons, where have they hidden all the buttons?? Ho the humanity (or lack thereof in this case)...
Honestly, this thing creeps me out! I've started to dread the time when I hear my ringtone and just start doing my little mantra: please let it go to voice mail, please please please... You get the idea.
I'm like a phreaking Freddy Kruger victim, can't fall asleep or IT will ring!!!
In short... And yes, I understand the thread could be a lot less tl;dr, has anyone tried to sideload the Google phone app?
Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for the recommendation but yeah, it's classified as "not compatible" with device.
I've tried/read about a bunch of others and most push data to their servers (contacts list, etc).
Been reading about past efforts on other HTC devices to use the Gdialer but it seems to crash, a lot.
To get the google dialer, your best bet is to use magisk and install the google framework to be able to install it off the playstore.
I've done it on my htc 10 and it seems to work perfectly fine (tried it with stock rom, "stock" rom, and with leedroid which has the option in aroma installer to use it from the getgo) I definitely won't change it back and will probably do the same thing once I get my u11+

Judging only from past experience with another phone, you need to make sure to set the google dialer as the default dialer app in the settings, and of course also allow permissions for the app.

agreed. i should have mentioned that all permissions were set and the app was set as the default Phone app. no luck though, it still FCs when i launch the app (Google Phone). thanks for your reply.
Try this one of you have Google framework installed : https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/google-phone-7-0-140861421-nonnexus-release/
Then, update it via play store. The only message I get is that my phone is incompatible when I start the app but it's working anyway.

thanks, but i tried that route already. version 7 works with an occassional freeze. updating to the the newest version via the Play Store works, but the newly installed (v15) Google Dialer app still FC's when i launch the dialer to make a call. one reason i need to use the Google Dialer is because press-and-hold the #1 on the htc dialer does not dial my voicemail. voicemail number is configured but it doesn't work with the htc phone app. works just fine with the Truecaller and Google Dialer. currently using a combination of Truecaller (using dialer to initate calls) and the Google Dialer app for in-call activity (set as default Phone app): i initiate a call via Truecaller and it connects using Google Dialer. Using SwiftBlack substratum theme for both apps.
Is there any way to install the Google Dialer app without root on a Dual SIM U11+ ?
I tried all the official versions 7.x-8.1 from APK Mirror and none of them could install, incompatibility error during install.
Is there any other possibility with G Dialer ?
OR an alternative dialer from Play Store ?

@Galactus thanks for replying. i believe i resolved my issue: it was a permissions issue that - for some reason - the request to approve did not appear when i installed version 15 (from apkmirror) on my device. i decided to factory reset my device add my google account (so i can use the nearby places feature), then install Google Dialer V15. i get the "This device is not supported ..." nag at first launch of the dialer, but that's ok. so far, all is working well and i'm good to go now. stopped working...ugh!

I've noticed that the Mate 9's apps aren't in the play store. It doesn't appear it has it's own Store either. How the heck do they update?
They either have the auto-update or they do not update at all.
MetroPCS has some apps installed on their Samsungs and are not present in any store. So they either update automatically, or they do not update at all.

Oh for sure. I usually give the built in apps a shot because when you theme the phone, none of the non-huawei apps obviously theme and it throws the look off. I know that seems stupid, but hey. I tried googling "hiapp apk" and it led me straight to Huawei's official app store where HiApp is available for download...
alternatively try to connect to HiSuite on your computer... there it would also prompt you to update the different apps when new versions become available...
HiApp is its own app store for Huawei mobiles and tablets. And you can download the package installer, . apk file, for HiApp store from official website of Huawei as below.

Hi everyone,
I've been seeing many people having issues with installing Google framework on the AL00 variant.
The fact is that Google framework is already baked in and it is just a simple update to enable it.
1. Open app gallery and change country to China
2. Search for Google play store and click update
3. After update, click on open
4. The usual setup will appear
5. Done.
After the above steps, the majority of Google services and sync, etc should all be working.
* Update - OK Google does not work out of the box.
Have a good time with your new baby ?
Cheers!

Hi Vincent,
Thanks for the suggestion above. I have legit fried my tiny brain on all aspects of getting google play to activate/update install what have you.
My location in the App Store ALREADY says China - and I am still unable to open or update the Google Play Store.
Any other suggestions? I am also unable to create a Huawei ID for the phone, it keeps saying "Restricted" and won't let me. Any work-arounds for this?
I was able to install the Google Phone application from APKmirror (https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/google-phone-33-0-249138098-release/) working on my OP7P, but it is missing the visual voicemail plus I would love to have the Pixel call screening functionality. Did you figure anything out I tried a few different Google dialers and I can't get my visual voicemail to work. the stock one sucks. It only actually lets me read the voicemail when it's a notification but when I go in the actual OS dialer all I can do is listen to it. I sure hope they fix that in an update later. Maybe it's because it's not actually for Verizon completely

If you are rooted you can install the Google dialer framework for Magisk
Here is a link for the github: https://github.com/Magisk-Modules-Repo/GoogleDialerFramework
After you install that and reboot you can install the Google dialer off apkmirror and then it will even update through the playstore after that.

I tried that the other day everything works except for visual voicemail.
Edit. Okay I was finally able to get Google dialer and visual voicemail to work. I had to install a really old version of dialer from the APK mirror . everything seems to work I just get a message every time I open it saying it might not be compatible. I also did not install the framework. On some of my other trials I tried the framework but I think you guys are going to find out when you try to uninstall that you're going to have a bad time.
Hi - I used to use the Google Dialer on my OP3T.
The Google Dialer (Beta version) is incredibly useful, because I have the option to block all calls that aren't in my Contacts list. Considering that I can get a dozen spam calls a day, that functionality is almost mandatory.
Sadly, the Google Dialer apparently doesn't appear to be compatible with the OP7P - At least, the Google Dialer isn't available in the Google Play Store on my OP7P.
Now, I could side-load the Google Dialer, but I'm wondering if it will break something in the OP7P telephony as a result. Also, does the Google Dialer support VoLTE?

Hopefully, a guru out there knows!

I just tried side-loading the latest Google Android Dialer (beta) from here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...ogle-phone-36-0-259628841-publicbeta-release/
When I tried installing it, I got a "Not Installed" error from the installer.

I found the solution.
The problem is that OP doesn't install the Google Dialer Framework as part of the OOS system. There is a downloadable Magisk Module for the Google Dialer Framework. Once I installed that, the latest Google Dialer Beta with Spam Protection installed properly on my OP7P.
Cheers!

This worked to install without anything else special. Turned on spam protection in settings. But is there anything else I need to do for it to work?
I am not rooted so no magisk modules.

Maybe disabling oos dialer would work.
